Munich. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is now on the
road. The first vehicles were delivered to customers in Europe and
Japan a few days ago. Now in its sixth generation, the sporty
all-rounder in the premium segment of the upper mid-range vehicle
segment is being launched for the first time as the all-electric BMW
i5 Touring. Two models with purely electric drive and two with highly
efficient four-cylinder diesel engines are available for the market
launch. By summer 2024, the range of the new BMW 5 Series Touring and
Sedan will be extended to include additional models with plug-in
hybrid drive and an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine.

The Bavarian premium car manufacturer is systematically continuing
the electrification of its model range with the BMW i5 Touring and the
soon-to-be-available plug-in hybrid versions of the new BMW 5 Series
Touring. The top model of the new series is the BMW i5 M60 xDrive
Touring* with up to 442 kW/601 hp. At its side is the new BMW i5
eDrive40 Touring* with an output of up to 250 kW/340 hp and a range of
up to 560 kilometres (348 miles) determined in the WLTP test cycle.

In addition, the BMW 520d Touring* and BMW 520d xDrive Touring*
models, which are particularly popular in Europe, are now available.
Their four-cylinder diesel engine is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid
technology and develops a maximum output of 145 kW/197 hp.

Plug-in hybrid drive and BMW xDrive for Sedan and Touring models.

Plug-in hybrid technology will be introduced in the new BMW 5 Series
Touring in summer 2024. Two models will be available. The new BMW 530e
Touring* transmits the power of its two engines to the rear wheels via
an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. In the new BMW 530e xDrive
Touring*, intelligent all-wheel drive ensures optimum traction,
agility and driving stability in all road conditions. This drive
technology combination will also be available in the BMW 5 Series
Sedan from summer 2024. The new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan* will be the
third model variant of the four-door model with plug-in hybrid system.

The drive system of the three new models consists of a four-cylinder
petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed
Steptronic transmission, which together generate a system output of
220 kW/299 hp. The high-voltage battery provides a usable energy
content of 19.4 kWh and enables an electric range of 83 to 95
kilometres (51 to 59 miles) for the new BMW 530e Touring, 82 to 89
kilometres (50 to 55 miles) for the new BMW 530e xDrive Touring and 82
to 93 kilometres (50 to 58 miles) for the new BMW 530e xDrive Sedan.

In the new BMW 5 Series Touring, there is also no loss of transport
capacity when choosing a plug-in hybrid model. Thanks to the
space-saving arrangement of the high-voltage battery in the underbody
of the vehicle, the length, width and height of the completely flat
luggage compartment are the same as those of the models with
combustion engine and all-electric drive. Luggage capacity is 570
litres with all seats occupied and can be increased to 1,700 litres if required.

Available from summer 2024: Six-cylinder in-line diesel engine
in the BMW 5 Series.

The range of engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and
Touring models will be extended in summer 2024 to include a straight
six-cylinder diesel engine. The drive unit of the BMW 540d xDrive
Sedan and BMW 540d xDrive Touring from the BMW Group's latest modular
generation is combined with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in the form
of a crankshaft starter generator. Together, the combustion engine and
the electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission
generate a maximum output of 223 kW/303 hp and a maximum torque of 670
Nm (494 lb/ft).

Torque is distributed fully variably to all four wheels via the
intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The dynamic power
delivery of the in-line six-cylinder diesel engine and the superior
power transmission are reflected in the 5.2-second acceleration time
from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph), which is the same for both the new BMW
540d xDrive Sedan* and the new BMW 540d xDrive Touring.

The following sales prices (recommended retail prices for Germany
including VAT) apply to the model variants of the new BMW 5 Series
Touring and the first BMW i5 Touring available at market launch or
from summer 2024, as well as to the additional model variants of the
BMW 5 Series Sedan available from summer 2024:

Munich. More dynamic than ever, brimming with digital
innovations, with a spacious interior exuding a premium feel and – in
the shape of the BMW i5, with a fully electric drivetrain for the
first time, the new BMW 5 Series reinforces its claim to leadership in
the premium executive class. For the members of the World Car Awards
expert jury, it was the standout new arrival among the field of luxury
vehicles which celebrated their debuts in the world’s car markets over
the past 12 months. The international panel of experts therefore
handed the BMW 5 Series the crown of World Luxury Car 2024. The
results were announced today at the start of the New York
International Auto Show 2024 as part of a ceremony broadcast worldwide
via streaming services.

The success of the BMW 5 Series was underpinned by assessments
carried out during extensive test drives by the around 100 car
journalists from 30 countries that made up the jury. These ratings
were then recorded in detail by the World Car Awards organisers. The
BMW 5 Series fended off competition from a field of 13 new luxury
vehicles, winning over the jury not only with the majestic power
delivery from its portfolio of electrified combustion engines as well
as the electric drive system, but also with its high comfort levels
over long-distance journeys and numerous digital innovations. “We are
very pleased to receive this prestigious award. The verdict of the
international jury shows that our strong-character products with their
typical BMW qualities convince and inspire demanding target groups all
over the world,” said Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand
and Product Management, Connected Company.

BMW 5 Series: Consistent electrification and digital innovations.

The BMW 5 Series displays its progressive character with its
powertrain technology, its innovative digital services as well as an
elegantly sporty design, generous levels of cabin space, optimised
acoustic comfort and a progressive premium ambience for the interior.
Advanced assistance systems like the motorway assistant and active
Lane Change Assistant with eye confirmation emphasise the
long-distance qualities of the BMW 5 Series. With the display and
control/operation system BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, the BMW Curved
Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended
functionality all on board, the i5 is comprehensively set up for
user-vehicle interaction via touch control and natural speech. When
the car is stationary, BMW 5 Series occupants can explore the
extensive video streaming offering on the control display and enjoy a
new form of in-car gaming – e.g. to make use of the time when the
high-voltage battery is charging.

As a fully integrated member of the new BMW 5 Series model range, the
BMW i5 offers locally emission-free driving pleasure. The driving
dynamics and efficiency of the BMW i5 have their roots in
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. This comprises highly
integrated drive units and high-voltage batteries with extremely high
energy density. In addition, the latest evolution of adaptive
recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology
for heating and cooling the interior, drive system and high-voltage
battery help the car to achieve a range of up to 582 kilometres (362
miles) in the WLTP cycle, depending on the model and specification.
The Combined Charging Unit of the BMW i5 enables AC charging at a rate
of up to 22 kW and DC charging at up to 205 kW. This means the car’s
range can be boosted by up to 156 kilometres (97 miles) within just
10 minutes when plugged into a fast-charging station.

The entire combustion engine portfolio has also been electrified. A
flexibly designed drive architecture that was open to different
technologies from the outset enables the new BMW 5 Series Sedan to be
offered for the first time as an all-electric model, with plug-in
hybrid systems and with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines.
The combustion engines from the new modular generation of BMW Group
Efficient Dynamics engines all feature the latest version of 48-volt
mild hybrid technology.

BMW wins title number nine in the World Car Awards.

The World Car Awards were created 20 years ago to stand alongside
national and regional distinctions as an acknowledgement of
outstanding innovations and new products in car markets worldwide.
This year, the awards were presented in a total of five categories in
addition to the overall prize.

Over the years, BMW has collected eight wins in the World Car Awards.
One of the victors was the BMW 7 Series, which was crowned World
Luxury Car in 2016 already. In 2018, the title of World Performance
Car was presented to the BMW M5. This ninth title win for the Bavarian
premium carmaker is the latest in a long line of distinctions amassed
by the new BMW 5 Series over the past few months. For instance, the
all-electric version alone adds to the trophy collection with a total
of three „Car of the Year“ awards from Norway, Denmark and Italy.

Munich/Los Angeles. The BMW Group presents a fusion
of art and innovation at the Frieze Los Angeles art fair in the form
of the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. The one-of-a-kind vehicle combines
colour-change technology developed by BMW with the artistic language
of South African artist Esther Mahlangu. The designer piece, with
sections of attached film that can be electronically animated,
embodies the latest development in colour-change technology for
vehicle surfaces in cooperation with E Ink. The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA
celebrates its world premiere at the fair opening on 29 February. The
contemporary tribute recalls the BMW Art Car designed by Mahlangu in
1991. “The BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA honours the history of the BMW brand
and continues the story of our global cultural engagement in a unique
way. It combines art and design through progressive technology. Here,
technology itself becomes art,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW
Group Design.

In 1991, Mahlangu designed the 12th BMW Art Car, based on a BMW
525i – becoming the first woman and first African artist to do so.
“Her art inspired me years ago, back when the concept of colour change
on a car was just an idea in my head,” says Stella Clarke, Research
Engineer Open Innovations at the BMW Group. „Now, being able to
realise this idea, and work with Esther Mahlangu, is absolutely
surreal.” The 88-year-old artist’s signature colours and geometric
patterns are perfect for bringing the innovative Flow technology to
life in the BMW i5. The versatility of the electrophoretic colour
changes makes the fully-electric sedan a dynamic work of art. “It is
fascinating to me to see how modern technology can expand my art and
make it accessible to a completely new audience,” says Mahlangu.

Mahlangu’s art meets cutting-edge technology.
In
the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA, which is named after Mahlangu’s first son,
sections of film that can be electronically animated are applied, with
two strips each across the roof, bonnet and rear section, as well as
the vehicle’s sides. Like an e-book reader, there are several million
microcapsules in each E Ink film. The structure and arrangement of the
colour particles they contain can be changed by applying an electric
voltage. This allows the typical colours and patterns of Mahlangu’s
art to be generated in constantly changing compositions.

The animations are also accompanied by an equally extraordinary
sound, specially composed by Renzo Vitale, the BMW Group's Creative
Director, Sound, for the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA. To combine the
soundscape of the BMW brand with that of the South African Ndebele
culture, Vitale used sequences from Mahlangu’s voice, as well as the
sound of the feather brushes she used for painting. These were
combined with sounds produced by the colour pencils employed in the
BMW design studio and the acoustic signal heard as feedback when
operating the BMW i5’s touch display. This created a sound mix that
starts off softly at the beginning of each colour change and increases
in intensity as the animation progresses.

To accurately recreate every detail of the complex
ornamentation, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA has been fitted with 1,349
sections of film, each of which can be individually controlled. The
laser cutting process used to trim the film and the electronic control
design were developed in partnership with E Ink. The adaptation of the
technology for curved surfaces, as well as the programmed animations,
are all BMW Group in-house developments.

Overall, colour-change technology is developing rapidly. The BMW
iX Flow featuring E Ink presented in 2022 had the ability to switch
from white to black at the push of a button. This was followed just
one year later by the first multi-coloured implementation. The 240
sections of film applied to BMW i Vision Dee were able to display up
to 32 colours. This latest phase of development now enables even more
colours and patterns. At the same time, the sections of the film are
more robust – which could make potential future series production
easier. However, for the time being, the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA will
remain one of a kind.

Tribute to a pioneering artist and her work.
As
a globally respected artist, Esther Mahlangu is known for her Ndebele
paintings, whose ornamentation originally symbolised major events or
festive occasions. Mahlangu separated the designs from their original
meaning and transferred them for the first time to canvas, carpets and
everyday objects, thus preserving them for the future. The BMW i5 Flow
NOSTOKANA is now reinterpreting this artistic language.

In presenting this designer car at Frieze Los Angeles, BMW
continues its long-standing cooperation with the renowned art fair. At
the same time, the BMW Art Car that formed the basis for this tribute
will also be on display in South Africa for the first time in over 30
years as part of the exhibition hosted by the Iziko Museums of South
Africa and the BMW Group in Cape Town “Then I Knew I Was Good at
Painting”: Esther Mahlangu. A Retrospective. The exhibition,
which runs until 11 August 2024, honours the life’s work of one of
South Africa’s most influential artists and cultural ambassadors.

In Los Angeles, BMW will once again be presenting Frieze Music
in collaboration with Frieze. Since 2019, the joint initiative between
the two partners has brought together a large group of musicians at
the intersection of music and art. The event’s return to Los Angeles
will be celebrated on 29 February with a live performance by Sudan
Archives at the Hammer Museum.
Munich. Digital, dynamic and, for the first time,
fully electric as a BMW i5. The new generation of the BMW 5 Series
sets standards, including when it comes to vehicle safety. Independent
institutes in Europe, the USA and Korea each gave the BMW 5 Series
Sedan top marks. The testers were impressed by both the active
assistance systems and passive safety.

5-star rating at Euro NCAP.

The independent safety experts from the European New Car Assessment
Programme (Euro NCAP) awarded the eighth generation of the BMW 5
Series Sedan the highest rating of five stars.

The extensive standard equipment with safety-relevant driver
assistance systems makes a significant contribution to the 5-star
rating. All driver assistance systems used in the new BMW 5 Series are
among the best on the market and impressed Euro NCAP safety experts
with their range of functions and reliable responses.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan also scored points in the area of passive
safety with its innovative integrated safety concept, which was
constantly being further developed by BMW. In addition to highly
resilient support structures and precisely designed deformation paths,
a model-specific combination of precisely coordinated restraint
systems is used.

The Euro NCAP assessments are a Europe-wide recognized standard for
accident safety and are constantly being further developed. An award
with the highest rating of five stars goes exclusively to vehicles
that have excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with
comprehensive and practical technology to prevent accidents.

TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award from the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety in the USA.

The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the best
rating with a rating as TOP SAFETY PICK+. The standard assistance
system for preventing frontal accidents was particularly convincing
here, which achieved excellent ratings in both day and night tests. In
combination with the lighting system, the “plus” in the TOP SAFETY
PICK+ rating was decisive. It is the highest award that this institute awards.

In various collision tests, the integrated safety concept of the new
BMW 5 Series also proved to guarantee that comprehensive protection
against injuries is always guaranteed regardless of the size and
sitting position of the occupants.

The test procedure of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is
the standard for the comprehensive safety assessment of new vehicles
on the American market, which is important for the BMW 5 Series, and
an essential basis for decisions by fleet customers in the USA.

“Safest Car of the Year” at KNCAP in South Korea

In the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Transport awarded the BMW
i5 the “Safest Car of the Year” award. Only the vehicle that scores
the highest number of KNCAP points in the respective year receives
this award. At the official presentation of the award in Korea,
Dominik Schuster, Head of Vehicle Safety at the BMW Group, emphasized
the importance of this award: “Top KNCAP ratings underline our
safety-focused development process and prove the BMW Group's
commitment to continuous improvement of vehicle safety.”

The independent testers were particularly impressed by the
performance of passive safety. They saw 99.5% of these met. In Korea
full points were still scored for emergency braking systems to protect
pedestrians and cyclists. Some driver assistance systems also received
the maximum rating.

The title “Safest Car of the Year” impressively demonstrates the BMW
Group's pioneering role in one of the world's most important
individual markets for the BMW 5 Series Sedan.

Singapore. BMW Asia today launched the first-ever BMW
i5 M60 xDrive, a car that is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. As a performance model from
BMW M GmbH, the all-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive comes as standard with
specific exterior features that also visually underline its
outstanding sport potential.

"The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is the perfect blend of everything that
makes a 5 Series great. It has incredible performance credentials, an
empowering presence, and a luxurious cabin,” said Lars Nielsen,
Managing Director, BMW Group Asia. “If you are looking for an
electrifying sedan that is equally comfortable on the racetrack and
weekend grocery runs, I cannot think of a more ideal companion on the road!”

Wide range of paintwork, BMW i5 M60 xDrive with specific
design features.

The range of paintwork colours includes one solid finish and nine
metallic finishes. In addition, three BMW Individual paint finishes
are available, including two particularly expressive matt paint finishes.

Individual design features give the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive a
striking look, which emphasise its dynamic performance. A front apron
with black surfaces in its centre and large air intakes, a BMW kidney
grille with contour line lighting, horizontal slats and M logo, side
skirts and exterior mirror caps finished in high-gloss black, 21-inch
BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels and a rear apron with a pronounced
diffuser insert signal the top-of-the-range model’s sporty character.
An M rear spoiler lip is also standard.

In addition, the M Sport Package Pro comes as standard on the
first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive. The contents include the illuminated BMW
kidney grille with black surround, the dynamic light carpet,
high-gloss black exterior mirror caps and a black-painted M rear
spoiler. In addition, there are also the M Shadow Line lights for the
front and rear and red-painted brake calipers.

Another option is the M Carbon exterior package available in
conjunction with the M Sport Package for the first-ever BMW i5 M60
xDrive. It includes exterior mirror caps and a carbon fibre rear
spoiler. On both components, the characteristic structure of the
carbon fibre is impressively visible under a layer of clear lacquer.

Newly designed steering wheel and control panel.

In the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive and in conjunction with the M
Sport Package, the optimised functionality of the M leather steering
wheel is combined with a classic three-spoke design. Contrast
stitching in BMW M GmbH colours and a red centre marker for the
steering wheel of the Performance model emphasise the sporty character
of this model.

The control panel on the centre console has also been redesigned. The
iDrive Controller, the new gear selector switch, the start/stop
button, the My Modes buttons, the volume control for the audio system
and buttons for controlling other vehicle functions are clearly
arranged on the centre panel. With the CraftedClarity option, crystal
glass applications for selected controls add a luxurious touch. At the
front of the centre console, there is space for a wireless charging
tray for inductively charging a suitable mobile phone and another tray.

BMW i5 M60 xDrive top-of-the-range model features
model-specific chassis technology for superior performance.

As the top model in the range, the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive not
only has the most powerful drive, but also comes with standard
suspension equipment that ensures the power of its two electric motors
can be harnessed to deliver a fascinatingly superior performance
experience. Its Adaptive Suspension Professional includes
electronically controlled shock absorbers and suspension lowering by 8
millimetres compared to the standard chassis of the first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40, as well as Integral Active Steering. In addition, the
dynamic performance, agility and handling precision of the
high-performance model are enhanced by 21-inch BMW Individual
aerodynamic wheels with mixed tyres and a powerful M sport braking system.

M specific displays on the BMW Curved Display.

In the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive, the emotional performance
experience is supported by M specific displays on the BMW Curved
Display. The typography and graphics are based on the display in the
cockpit of high-performance cars from BMW M GmbH. The bands of the
main displays and associated design elements in the instrument cluster
appear in a platinum silver finish.

The BMW Curved Display also offers a specific design in the
first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive – the Sport Boost and Launch Control
functions appear impressively in the instrument cluster when
activated. The content shown in the centre of the Information Display
can be selected individually. For example, by pressing the
corresponding multifunction button on the right steering wheel spoke,
the driver can switch between a detailed map view, infotainment lists,
the Assisted View and the Augmented View or the range prediction.

BMW IconicSounds Electric.

A very special soundscape can also be experienced in the first-ever
BMW i5 M60 xDrive. The standard BMW IconicSounds Electric accompany
every movement of the accelerator pedal with authentic acoustic
feedback. Depending on the My Mode selected, the model-specific sound
is staged in different ways. The sound spectrum in SPORT mode is
particularly powerful and impressive. The BMW IconicSounds Electric
were developed in a cooperation between the BMW Group and the renowned
film music composer Hans Zimmer and are characterised by a strikingly
transparent timbre featuring spherical components.

BMW i5 M60 xDrive: All-electric driving pleasure at the top of
the model range.

The consistent shift towards electric mobility associated with the
generation change of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is particularly
evident at the top of the range. The system output of the first-ever
BMW i5 M60 xDrive’s two electric motors is 380 kW/517 hp and increases
to a maximum of 442 kW/601 hp in My Mode SPORT.

Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles, in
which the electric motor, power electronics and transmission are very
compactly combined in a common housing, form an electric all-wheel
drive system that enables the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive to deliver
fascinating dynamic performance. The electric motor acting on the rear
wheels generates a maximum power output of 250 kW/340 hp, while the
drive positioned on the front axle produces 192 kW/261 hp. Both motors
have an exceptionally high power density. The system torque generated
by both motors is 795 Nm or 820 Nm when M Sport Boost or the M Launch
Control function is activated.

This enables the first-ever BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100
km/h in 3.8 seconds. The typical M performance characteristics of the
drive system also ensure that the power is delivered continuously. The
maximum speed of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive is electronically
cut off at 230 km/h.

In order to activate full drive power spontaneously, the first-ever
BMW i5 M60 xDrive and, in conjunction with the M Sport Package,
feature a shift paddle marked with "Boost" near the left
steering wheel spoke. If the paddle is pulled for more than 0.8
seconds, a Sport Boost indicator appears on the Information Display.
It indicates that a high level of power is being requested by the
accelerator pedal which then triggers maximum acceleration. At the
same time, the drive sound changes to the sound variant assigned to My
Mode SPORT.

In conjunction with the M Sport Package Pro, the Launch Control
function is also available, which also activates maximum drive power.
Extremely dynamic acceleration from standstill is enabled as the drive
and traction control are coordinated.

High-voltage battery with compact design and high energy content.

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range. The first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive has a WLTP range of up to
516 km. With the new MAX RANGE function, the range can be increased by
up to 25 percent if required by limiting power and speed and
deactivating comfort functions.

Innovative eCharging solutions from BMW Charging.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive
enables AC charging with an output of up to 22 kW as standard. The
high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current with a power
of up to 205 kW. For example, the battery charge level in the
first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive can be raised from 10 to 80 percent in
around 30 minutes.

Charging in Singapore.

To make electromobility simple and straightforward for customers, BMW
Asia has been collaborating with Shell Recharge, since 2014, to
provide home and public charging options for customers in Singapore.

Today, BMW Asia continues this partnership by offering BMW i
customers either a comprehensive home or public charging package under
the Shell Recharge banner:

For home charging, customers will receive a wall-mounted AC
charger with complimentary installation service.

For public charging, customers will receive a subscription package
of 10,000 kWh over 3 years at Shell Recharge stations with no
monthly cap for charging. This is equivalent to up to 50,000 km of
driving range (assuming average energy consumption at 20kWh/100km).

The wall-mounted AC charger provides a fast way to charge their
vehicle at a rate of up to 22kW. Once the vehicle is plugged in,
charging begins and will end automatically when the battery is fully
charged or has reached the pre-determined level. In addition, BMW i
models are compatible with all Type 2 public charging stations that
are widely available across the island.

BMW Charging gives drivers access to one of the largest networks of
public charging stations located in various office buildings, shopping
malls, hotels and industrial parks in Singapore. Activation of and
payment for the chargers can be done through an RFID card or the Shell
Recharge smartphone app.

The first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive is now available for viewing at all
authorised BMW dealers in Singapore.

Singapore.
BMW Asia today launched the all-new BMW 5
Series Sedan, a car that is more dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth
of digital innovations and for the first time, all-electric drive. As
the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan, the new edition of the world's most
successful business sedan takes the lead on the road to sustainable
premium mobility in the upper mid-range vehicle segment. Consistent
electrification, advanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
“QuickSelect”, new digital services, and increased sustainability
throughout the entire product life cycle characterise the progress
made in the fields of the future, which are centrally important in the
current transformation of the BMW Group.

The new model generation will be offered in Singapore with
all-electric drive and highly efficient petrol engine with 48-volt
mild hybrid technology. Like all previous model generations, the
all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is produced at the BMW Group Plant
Dingolfing, where the electric motors and high-voltage batteries for
the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan are also manufactured.

"The BMW 5 Series is a car that needs no introduction, and the
numbers speak for themselves – in the past 15 years, we have sold more
than 16,000 units in Singapore,” said Lars Nielsen, Managing Director,
BMW Group Asia. “The feeling of empowerment that the car exudes is
addictive and inspiring at the same time. This is an experience that
our customers crave for and can expect every time they get behind the wheel.”

“That is not all. With the introduction of the BMW i5, BMW Group
Asia’s EV portfolio in Singapore has now grown to seven models in four
body types that cater to all lifestyles from Gran Coupés and Sedans to
Sports Activity Vehicles and a 3-Door Hatch. We are confident that
regardless of the drivetrain, the BMW 5 Series delivers power, focus
and direction – key attributes that define those who work to move the
world forward,” added Nielsen.

Launch Edition.

A total of 20 units of the all-new BMW 520i and first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40 (10 units per variant) are available in Launch Edition guise
for customers to purchase in Singapore. The cars’ interior and
exterior trims, kidney grille and 20-inch wheels are exclusively
finished in Titanium Bronze. These exquisite detailing add a touch of
flair like no other and further enhance the executive sedan’s poise
and appeal.

Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the all-new 5 Series
Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor
model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to 5,060
millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and in
height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

The front view of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by
a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille.
LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
forward, features a wide surround and BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed
surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s
athletic body. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an
embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further
eye-catchers. The dynamically stretched proportions flow into a
powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip
interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative
flair.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers ideal conditions for enjoying
hallmark BMW driving pleasure in everyday traffic and a high level of
comfort on long-distance journeys. Generous space, modern
functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as
high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and
advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior.

The cockpit of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan has a significantly
reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor
model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The
BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver
orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch
Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering
wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened lower section and
haptic feedback on the control panels, and the selector lever on the
centre console. The BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The
effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure
extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the
door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.

Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
comfort seats offer a wider range of electrically operated adjustment
options. The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to
feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces
of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the
steering wheel (except M Sport models) for the first time. The seat
surfaces in the Veganza version with leather-like properties are also
optionally available with a decorative perforation. Further optional
equipment includes BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in several
bicolour variants.

BMW i5 eDrive40: Advanced BMW eDrive technology, traditional
rear-wheel drive.

The all-electric BMW i5 Sedan is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40’s electric motor drives the rear wheels and generates a
maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of up to 400 Nm
with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The first-ever BMW i5
eDrive40 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top
speed is 193 km/h.

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range. The WLTP values are 497 - 582 kilometres for the
first-ever BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function, the range
can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting power and
speed and deactivating comfort functions.

Innovative eCharging solutions from BMW Charging.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the first-ever BMW i5 Sedan
enables AC charging with an output of up to 11 kW. The high-voltage
battery can be charged with direct current with a power of up to 205
kW. For example, the battery charge level in the first-ever BMW i5
Sedan can be raised from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

Charging in Singapore.

To make electromobility simple and straightforward for customers, BMW
Asia has been collaborating with Greenlots, a member of the Shell
Group, since 2014, to provide home and public charging options for
customers in Singapore.

This is equivalent to 50,000 km of driving
range (assuming average energy consumption at 20kWh/100km).

The wall-mounted AC charger provides a fast way to charge their
vehicle at a rate of up to 11kW.

New petrol engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The petrol engine from the new modular generation of BMW Group
Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in Singapore. The all-new
BMW 520i now features 48-volt mild hybrid technology and is combined
with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.

Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan's characteristic balance between
maximum sportiness and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced
once again in the new edition. The longest wheelbase in the executive
sedan segment, increased track widths at the front and rear axles, an
almost perfectly balanced 50 : 50 ratio axle load distribution,
intelligent lightweight construction and increased body and chassis
connection rigidity contribute to this.

The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
steering with variable steering ratio as standard. M Sport models get
a lower and sportier suspension system. Light alloy wheels in 19-inch
or 20-inch sizes are standard equipment. Light-alloy wheels up to a
size of 21 inches and performance tyres are offered as options.

Parking Assistant Plus including Reversing Assistant as standard.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan is equipped with Parking Assistant
Plus that includes the Parking View, Panorama View front and 3D View
functions. This shows a 360-degree image of the all-new BMW 5 Series
Sedan and its surroundings from different perspectives on the Control
Display. In addition, the Remote 3D View function allows drivers to
view a three-dimensional live image of the vehicle and its
surroundings transmitted to their smartphone (available for Apple
iPhone from operating system iOS 16.2). With the optional Parking
Assistant Professional, automated parking and manoeuvring of up to 200
metres can be controlled in the vehicle or by smartphone outside the vehicle.

Intuitive operation and new digital experiences: BMW iDrive
with "QuickSelect" and BMW Operating System 8.5.

The enhanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
"QuickSelect" also contributes to the characteristic driving
and travelling experience in the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan. It is
based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home
screen with vertically arranged function icons on the driver’s side.
“QuickSelect” enables functions to be accessed directly without having
to switch to a submenu. This means that the system has received an
improved menu structure, oriented towards devices from the consumer
electronics sector.

The new BMW iDrive is also combined with the BMW Curved Display and
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed to
be operated by means of a touch display and natural language. In
addition, the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan also features steering wheel
buttons and the BMW iDrive Controller on the centre console. The BMW
Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up Display and
Augmented View on the Control Display or instrument cluster. The
standard BMW Natural Interaction is also available for controlling
functions using gestures.

Other innovations include the Welcome Scenario with light show and
personal welcome, which optionally also includes the dynamic light
carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for suitable
smartphones with the iOS or Android operating systems as well as for
the Apple Watch.

The all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers a choice of up to six My Modes
to deliver an all-immersive vehicle experience. The standard equipment
also includes optimised smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and
Android Auto™. With the Remote Software Upgrades function, the vehicle
always stays up to date with the latest software. With BMW
ConnectedDrive Upgrades, customers can also test selected functions
free of charge for a period of one month and then book them for a
specific term.

Proactive Care: New service promise characterised by digitalisation.

The market launch of the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan also marks the
beginning of a new chapter in the field of customer service. With
Proactive Care, the focus is on recognising the vehicle's service
needs also by using artificial intelligence and proactively offering
solutions to the customer without them having to take action themselves.

This is not the first time that BMW has taken on a pioneering role in
the use of digital technology to optimise customer service. With BMW
TeleServices, customers have already been benefiting for many years
from the fact that service-relevant data is transmitted directly from
the vehicle to the BMW dealer. It is also possible to arrange service
appointments online in this way via the My BMW app or dealer’s
channel. With Proactive Care, BMW is now going one step further. From
Condition Based Service to accident detection
[1] as part of
the automatic emergency call, the all-new BMW 5 Series Sedan features
numerous options for identifying servicing or assistance needs and
reporting them to BMW according to the customer’s preferences. As soon
as this happens, BMW contacts the customer and proposes a suitable
solution, which is then carried out using the suitable channel
depending on the urgency. In case of the vehicle needs servicing
urgently while on the road, the customer receives suggestions for a
visit to a nearby dealership.

Depending on the type of service required, communication takes place
via different channels: with an in-car message on the Control Display,
a message in the My BMW app, by e-mail or - in the event of a
collision or breakdown - by means of a Roadside Assistance call.
Proactive Care offers the customer various types of services. This
includes remote diagnosis with possible problem solving via software
update as well as online appointment scheduling or the personalised
service video including online payment processing[2] (the scope of service of
"Proactive Care" may vary depending on the country of
delivery) In the event of a breakdown, BMW will activate Mobile
Service or a tow truck and inform the customer in advance when
assistance will arrive. Customers are strongly encouraged to connect
their My BMW app to their vehicle to enjoy the full benefits of BMW
Proactive Care.

The all-new BMW 5 Series and first-ever BMW i5 are now available for
viewing at all authorised BMW dealers in Singapore.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in October
2023. The new model generation will be offered worldwide with
all-electric drive and, depending on the market region, also with
plug-in hybrid systems as well as with highly efficient petrol and
diesel engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology. Like all
previous model generations, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is produced at
the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, where the electric motors and
high-voltage batteries for the BMW i5 are also manufactured.

Sporty elegance and striking presence with a new design language.

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series
Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor
model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to
5,060 millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and
in height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was
lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres.

The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a
modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille.
LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and
daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far
forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.

The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further
enhanced with the optional M Sport Package, the M Sport Package Pro
and the M Carbon exterior package. The range of paintwork already
includes three BMW Individual paint finishes at market launch.

Driving pleasure and travel comfort combined with innovative flair.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers ideal conditions for enjoying
hallmark BMW driving pleasure in everyday traffic and a high level of
comfort on long-distance journeys. Generous space, modern
functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as
high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and
advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior.

The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced
number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This
is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved
Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation.
The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information
Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also
been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on
the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The
optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively
backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends
across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door
panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.

A first at BMW: Fully vegan interior.

Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional
comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment
options. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to
feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces
of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the
steering wheel for the first time. The seat surfaces in the Veganza
version with leather-like properties are also optionally available
with a decorative perforation. Further optional equipment includes BMW
Individual Merino leather upholstery in several bicolour variants.

All-electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive as the top model.

The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced
fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two
variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined power consumption according
to WLTP: 20.6 - 18.2 kWh/100 km (62 miles)), which combines an up to
442 kW/601 hp drive with hallmark M performance and specific design
features. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear
axles make up an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated
is up to 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control
function is activated. This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from
zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, its top speed is
electrically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph).

The BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined power consumption according to WLTP:
18.9 - 15.9 kWh/100 km (62 mph)) is also available. Its electric motor
drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp
and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) with Sport Boost or
Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from zero to
100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, its top speed is
193 km/h (120 mph).

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and
provides a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the
efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation
and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and
cooling the interior, drive and high-voltage battery contribute to the
long range. The respective WLTP values are 455 - 516 kilometres (282 -
320 miles) for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive and 497 - 582 kilometres (309 -
361 miles) for the BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function,
the range can be increased by up to 25 percent if required by limiting
power and speed and deactivating comfort functions.

Innovative eCharging solutions from BMW Charging.

The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW i5 enables AC charging
with an output of up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an
option. The high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current
with a power of up to 205 kW. For example, the battery charge level in
the BMW i5 can be raised from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

The new Connected Home Charging is offered for the BMW i5 as well as
for the plug-in hybrid models. It creates the conditions for solar and
load-optimised charging (stage 1) and for cost-optimised charging
based on a dynamic electricity tariff contract (stage 2, from 2024).
In addition, the offer of BMW Charging and its strategic cooperation
partner E.ON lays the foundations for networking with the energy
market through bidirectional charging in future generations of
vehicles. The all-electric models in the new BMW 5 Series are also the
first BMW vehicles of the brand to be suitable for use with the Plug
& Charge function. This enables the vehicle to authenticate itself
automatically at compatible public charging stations without having to
use an app or charging card.
A unique feature is the Multi
Contract Option, which allows customers to digitally store up to five
individual Plug & Charge-enabled power contracts from different
providers in the vehicle.

New petrol and diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

Petrol and diesel engines from the new modular generation of BMW
Group Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in a market-specific
selection. They now feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology throughout
and are combined with a new 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard.

In Europe, the market launch will see the four-cylinder BMW 520i
Sedan models (fuel consumption combined: 6.4 - 5.7 l/100 km (62
miles); CO2 emissions: 144 - 130 g/km according to WLTP)
with 153 kW/208 hp, the BMW 520d Sedan (combined fuel consumption:
5.6 - 5.1 l/100 km (62 miles); CO2 emissions:
147 - 133 g/km according to WLTP,) and the BMW 520d xDrive Sedan
(combined fuel consumption: 6.0 - 5.5 l/ 100 km (62 miles);
CO2 emissions: 157 - 143 g/km according to WLTP) with 145
kW/197 hp each. Other petrol engines with four and six cylinders are
available outside Europe. The model range will be supplemented in
spring 2024 by two variants with plug-in hybrid drives of the latest
generation. A new in-line six-cylinder diesel engine will be available
for the BMW 5 Series Sedan from 2024. Another variant of the BMW i5
with electric all-wheel drive will also follow in the course of 2024.

Unique balance between driving dynamics and travel comfort.

The BMW 5 Series Sedan's characteristic balance between maximum
sportiness and high-level long-distance comfort is enhanced once again
in the new edition. The longest wheelbase in the upper mid-range
vehicle segment, increased track widths at the front and rear axles,
an almost perfectly balanced 50 : 50 ratio axle load distribution,
intelligent lightweight construction and increased body and chassis
connection rigidity contribute to this.

The extensively advanced chassis technology, like the control
systems, has been model-specifically adapted to the weight balance
associated with the respective drive technology. It includes directly
controlled wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system and sport
steering with variable steering ratio as standard. An M sport
suspension, an M sport brake system and the Adaptive Suspension
Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive) with electronically
controlled shock absorbers, Integral Active Steering and new vertical dynamics management are available as
options. The optional Adaptive M Suspension Professional also includes
Active Roll Stabilisation with Active Roll Comfort. Light alloy wheels
in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes (BMW i5 and plug-in hybrid models) are
standard equipment. Light-alloy wheels up to a size of 21 inches and
performance tyres are offered as options.

Intense partially automated driving experience: New Highway
Assistant, unique Active Lane Change Assistant.

A significantly expanded range of systems for partially automated
driving and parking is available as standard or as an option for the
new BMW 5 Series Sedan. An innovative technology kit creates the
conditions for their outstanding functionality.

The highlight of the range is the optional Driving Assistant
Professional including Steering and Lane Control Assist and Distance
Control with Stop & Go function. In the automotive markets in the
US and Canada, as well as in Germany, it includes the Highway
Assistant, which relieves the driver of steering tasks on highways
with structurally separated directional lanes. At driving speeds of up
to 130 km/h (85 mph), it is possible to take your hands off the
steering wheel and position them comfortably as long as you keep a
close eye on the traffic. As a world first, the system in the new BMW
5 Series now also includes the Active Lane Change Assistant with eye
confirmation. This comfort feature now achieves a new level of
interaction between the driver and the vehicle. The vehicle suggests a
lane change and this can be carried out for the first time by looking
in the exterior mirror to confirm the lane change. The Active Lane
Change Assistant takes over the necessary steering movements
automatically, the traffic situation permitting.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is equipped with Parking Assistant,
including Reversing Assist, as standard.

The enhanced BMW Curved Display and control system with
"QuickSelect" also contributes to the characteristic driving
and travelling experience in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. It is based
on the BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home screen
with vertically arranged function icons on the driver's side.
"QuickSelect” enables functions to be accessed directly without
having to switch to a submenu. This means that the system has received
an improved menu structure, oriented towards devices from the consumer
electronics sector.

The new BMW iDrive is also combined with the BMW Curved Display and
the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed to
be operated by means of a touch display and natural language. In
addition, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan also features steering wheel
buttons and the BMW iDrive Controller on the centre console. The
optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up
Display and Augmented View on the Control Display or instrument
cluster. The BMW Natural Interaction option is also available for
controlling functions using gestures.

In-car gaming premieres in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan.

In addition, BMW Operating System 8.5 offers a wider range of digital
content for information and entertainment, faster update cycles for
functions, improved information on charging points for electric
vehicles and optimised access to many specific online services. For
video streaming on the Control Display, there is a choice of YouTube
and the Bundesliga In-Car app in cooperation with Xperi, as well as
numerous aggregated contents on the TiVo platform.

In addition, the new BMW iDrive enables the use of an innovative form
of in-car gaming with the AirConsole platform, presented for the first
time in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. Drivers and passengers can play
so-called casual games while the vehicle is stationary, for example to
bridge waiting times while charging the high-voltage battery of the
BMW i5.

Optimised networking with up to four 5G mobile radio antennas.

Other innovations include the Welcome Scenario with light show and
personal welcome, which optionally also includes the dynamic light
carpet. The BMW Digital Key Plus is now available for suitable
smartphones with the iOS or Android operating systems as well as for
the Apple Watch. With two 5G mobile phone antennas as standard and
four as an option, the new business sedan provides optimised
connectivity and phone quality. The Personal eSIM fully integrates the
vehicle into the customer's digital ecosystem. In selected countries,
the BMW ID enables automatic payment of parking fees from the vehicle.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers a choice of up to six My Modes to
deliver an all-immersive vehicle experience.

The market launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan marks the beginning
of a new chapter in the field of customer service. With Proactive
Care, BMW is creating a new platform for exchanges with customers when
different types of car servicing is required. The focus is on
recognising the vehicle's service needs also by using artificial
intelligence and proactively offering solutions to the customer.

Press Contact: Amanda Poh
Tel: +65-6838-9629
E-mail: amanda.poh@bmwasia.com

Press Kit,Sedan,BMW i,5 Series,G60,i5,550e,i5 M60,Product,BMW
