<strong>Singapore.</strong> BMW Asia and Performance Munich Autos
today launched the new BMW M5 Competition. With its stylistic
fine-tuning, expertly honed operating concept and central display
enlarged to 12.3 inches, the new M5 Competition blends a business
sedan’s unruffled everyday usability with unbeatable high performance
sports car dynamics more effectively than ever.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Featuring new shock absorbers from the BMW M8 Gran Coupé and a
retuned chassis, the new BMW M5 Competition offers even better
driveability and handling at the limit, combined with superior comfort
  levels. The new BMW M5 Competition’s 4.4-litre V8 engine with BMW M
TwinPower Turbo technology generates 625 hp.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Stylistic fine-tuning for sharper looks.</strong></p>
<p>As on the BMW 5 Series range, the updated BMW kidney grille drops
down further into the front apron and has a one-piece design framing
both elements of the grille. M-specific double bars and an M5
Competition badge are present and correct. The front apron has bolder
contouring and larger air intakes at the sides, while the expansive
central air intake is hexagonal in shape and incorporates the oil
cooler and the radar sensor for the Active Cruise Control (ACC) system.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new L-shaped light tubes searing in narrow streaks towards the
kidney grille add a dynamic flourish to the newly designed LED
headlights. The standard BMW Individual lights Shadowline adds a
dark-tinted accent to the Adaptive LED Headlights and BMW Laserlight.
The aluminium bonnet, the front side panels with the signature M
gills, the streamlined M exterior mirrors and the roof made from
carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) join the BMW kidney grille’s
double bars as hallmark design features of the performance models in
the BMW 5 Series range. The thinner walls of the M-specific twin
tailpipes create a greater sense of high-tech precision. The muscular
rear apron with large diffuser has also been restyled, as have the
three-dimensional LED rear lights, whose precise light graphic
provides a fresh take on the familiar BMW L shape.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Black details for the BMW M5 Competition and new colours.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW M5 Competition also comes with black styling details that
underline its elite status. The BMW kidney grille surround, the mesh
on the M gills, the exterior mirror caps and the additional rear
spoiler on the boot lid all have a High-gloss Black finish, and the
rear apron includes Black inserts. Black M5 Competition badges adorn
the kidney grille, the gills and the boot lid, while the door sill
plates have an illuminated version. The tailpipes of the standard M
Sport exhaust system are finished in Black Chrome.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>New BMW M5 Competition customers can choose from five new paint
finishes: Brands Hatch Grey and Motegi Red metallic, as well as the
Tanzanite Blue II metallic, Aventurine Red II metallic and matt Frozen
Bluestone metallic finishes from BMW Individual. The Champagne Quartz
metallic shade offered previously has been renamed Alvit Grey
metallic. Light-alloy wheel options now also include the 20-inch M
double-spoke items in polished Orbit Grey familiar from the BMW M8.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Larger display and new operating concept with M modes.</strong></p>
<p>The introduction of a new operating concept and a larger central
display with a diagonal of 12.3 inches mean the cabin of the new BMW
M5 Competition is more driver-centric than ever. This makes it even
easier to keep a clear eye on the myriad functions associated with the
driving dynamics systems and BMW M xDrive all-wheel drive. Two new
buttons on the centre console – like those found in the BMW M8 –
provide more direct access to system settings and the various readouts
in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>At the press of the M Mode button, the driver can toggle swiftly
between the ROAD and SPORT settings. In the default ROAD setting, all
the standard and optional driver assistance systems are fully
activated. With the SPORT setting engaged, the active driver
assistance systems (in the configuration set by the driver) only
transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking restrictions, for
example. This mode allows all interventions in the braking and
steering systems to be disabled, aside from those made by the
collision warning with braking function and the Evasion Assistant.
SPORT mode also switches both the instrument cluster and the Head-Up
  Display to a special M View.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
<strong>TRACK mode for an undiluted M feeling in the new BMW M5 Competition.</strong></p>
<p>Keeping the M Mode button pressed then confirming the prompt in the
central display engages the additional TRACK mode. This mode is
designed exclusively for use on race circuits and deactivates all the
comfort and safety functions of the driver assistance systems. To
focus the driver’s attention even more intently on the road ahead, the
audio system is also muted and the central display switched off. The
result is an ultra-pure distillation of M feeling. The instrument
cluster switches to M View, while the Head-Up Display dispenses with
readouts from the driver assistance systems. Automatic activation of
the hazard warning lights in response to emergency braking is
suppressed and the collision warning system is also deactivated.
Pressing the M Mode button again exits TRACK mode and returns to the
  ROAD setting.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Setup button takes drivers straight to the configuration menu.</strong></p>
<p>Pressing the Setup button positioned above the M Mode button takes
the driver straight to the central display’s menu for programming an
individual configuration for the powertrain and chassis options – and
thereby tailoring the car’s setup to the driving situation at hand and
their personal preferences. Simplified operation using the touchscreen
display or iDrive Controller makes it easy for the driver to choose
different settings for the engine, suspension, steering and M xDrive
system. The two red-painted M1 and M2 buttons next to the gearshift
paddles on the M multifunction steering wheel enable rapid movement
between the setups. They allow drivers to configure two individual
setups, comprising their choice of M xDrive, DSC, engine,
transmission, damper and steering characteristics, as well as the
appearance of M View in the Head-Up Display.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>M multifunction seats as standard.</strong></p>
<p>Merino leather upholstered M multifunction seats with integral head
restraints, an illuminated M5 logo and extended functions come as
standard on the new BMW M5 Competition. Merino full leather trim in
Black/Midrand Beige is now also available as an exclusive option for
  the BMW M5 Competition.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
<strong>Wide choice of driver assistance systems.</strong></p>
<p>All of the driver assistance systems and features from the regular
BMW 5 Series are also available on the new BMW M5 Competition. The
Driving Assistant Professional is among the items to be found on the
options list. As part of the Comfort Access system, the BMW Digital
Key allows the car to be locked and unlocked from selected models of
smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>Imposing power from high-revving V8 engine.</strong></p>
<p>The V8 unit under the bonnet of the new BMW M5 Competition goes about
  its business in racing-car-derived, high-revving style – i.e. with
imposing muscularity and supreme power delivery. The new BMW M5
  Competition’s 625 hp comes on line at 6,000 rpm.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Peak torque of 750 Nm arrives as low down as 1,800 rpm and is
sustained at this elevated level all the way to 5,860 rpm in the new
BMW M5 Competition. The engine characteristics can be changed at the
touch of a button from the basic EFFICIENT mode to SPORT and SPORT+,
resulting in even more willing response to movements of the
accelerator. The new BMW M5 Competition sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in
3.3 seconds and it requires 10.8 seconds to power to 200 km/h from
rest. The top speed of the new BMW M5 Competition is 250 km/h.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M Sport exhaust system on the new BMW M5 Competition – with a
dual-branch and flap-controlled design – produce the soundtrack to
match. A more understated engine note can also be summoned with the M
Sound Control button. The eight speed M Steptronic transmission fitted
as standard enables extraordinarily short shift times and fast,
precise responses to every nudge of the accelerator. The Drivelogic
rocker switch on the gear selector allows three modes to be chosen for
efficient, sporty or dynamically intense track driving – the latter
involving extremely rapid gearshifts. The driver can use both the
selector lever and the shift paddles on the steering wheel to
  intervene manually.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Bespoke engine mounting for the new BMW M5 Competition.</strong></p>
<p>Among the special features of the new BMW M5 Competition are its
bespoke engine mounts with a stiffer spring rate. The drive unit’s
firmer connection to the vehicle’s structure is clearly perceptible,
resulting in even more rapid engine response and immediate
transmission of its power to the drivetrain. The car also turns into
corners with noticeably greater directness and</p>
<p>precision on account of the extra stiffness in the mounts.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>High performance meets everyday usability.</strong></p>
<p>Credit for negotiating the dynamic tightrope between full everyday
usability on the one hand and driving pleasure and exceptional track
performance on the other goes to the M xDrive system and its
centralised intelligent control for the Active M Differential.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>As an alternative to variable all-wheel drive mode (4WD) with
rear-biased baseline setup, the car’s handling characteristics can be
altered by varying degrees, culminating in 2WD mode. This pure
rear-wheel drive setting with no DSC (Dynamic Stability Control)
treats accomplished drivers to completely unadulterated driving
pleasure. The M Servotronic steering can also be adjusted in its
response, with a choice of COMFORT and SPORT modes, as can Variable
  Damper Control (VDC).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>This can be set to COMFORT for impeccable everyday usability, SPORT
to enhance sporty driving on country roads and give an ideal handling
profile for laps of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, or SPORT+ to
maximise dynamic performance on smooth asphalt, with wheel and body
movements minimised. As well as a seven-millimetre drop in ride height
and other well-conceived tweaks to the suspension and springs, the new
BMW M5 Competition’s setup benefits from further upgrades which take
into account the car’s extra power. Its talents are showcased most
  prominently on the race track.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>New shock absorbers from the BMW M8 Gran Coupé both improve
on-the-limit handling and bring extra comfort to the driving
experience. Bumps and ruts in the road surface are passed through the
body – and therefore to the passengers – to a far lesser degree, and
this is achieved without blunting the car’s sporting edge and
precision at high or low speeds. The new BMW M5 Competition leaves the
  factory with forged, bi-colour, 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in
  double-spoke design (front: 9.5 J x 20, rear: 10.5 J x 20) and
  mixed-size tyres (front: 275/35 R 20, rear: 285/35 R 20).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>M Compound brakes fitted as standard.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW M5 Competition is equipped as standard with M Compound
brakes, featuring perforated, inner-vented brake discs and six-piston
fixed callipers bearing the M logo at the front and single-piston
floating callipers with an integrated parking brake at the rear. As
well as the High-gloss Red painted finish, the callipers can also be
painted in High-gloss Black as an option. The optional M Carbon
ceramic brakes are recognisable from their gold-coloured callipers
with M logo (six-piston fixed callipers at the front, single-piston
floating callipers at the rear). They withstand wear exceptionally
well, are 23 kilograms lighter, provide even better braking
performance and thermal stability, and boast further improved fade resistance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW M5 Competition is now available for viewing at the
  Performance Munich Autos showroom.</p>

<p>BMW M GmbH is expanding its ranks of ultra-sporty CS models with
the introduction of the BMW M5 CS (fuel consumption, combined: 11.3
    – 11.1 l/100 km [25.0 – 25.5 mpg imp] correspond to NEDC; 11,3  -
10,9 l/100 km correspond to WLTP, CO2 emissions,
    combined: 258 – 253 g/km correspond to NEDC, 257 – 248 g/km
correspond to WLTP). The limited-run, exclusive special-edition
model treats four people to an extraordinary driving experience and
blends standout performance attributes with an exclusive and
    luxurious appearance.</p>
  <p> </p>
  <p>The 4.4-litre V8 engine with 467 kW/635 hp makes the BMW M5 CS the
most powerful car in the history of BMW M. Standard features include
the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the
M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which also offers a 2WD mode for
    pure rear-wheel drive.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>Rigorously applied lightweight design enables a weight saving
of some 70 kilograms over the BMW M5 Competition (fuel consumption,
    combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km [26.7 – 26.9 mpg imp] correspond to
    NEDC; 11,3 -10,9 l/100 km correspond to WLTP;
    CO2 emissions, combined: 259 – 254 g/km correspond to
NEDC; 259 – 249 g/km correspond to WLTP). With retuned bearing
springs at the front and rear axle and further refined damper
control, the chassis has been adapted to the lower vehicle weight
and the increased performance potential of the standard mixed-size
    Pirelli P Zero Corsa track tyres (front: 275/35 R 20, rear: 285/35 R 20).</p>
  <p> </p>
  <p>The BMW M5 CS sprints from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.0
    seconds, and from 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.3 seconds. Top speed
    is an electronically governed 305 km/h (189 mph).</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The exceptional driving experience on board the BMW M5 CS can be
enjoyed by four people – the driver and front passenger in M Carbon
seats and two other passengers in the individual rear seats. The
black Merino leather covers (fine-grain for the front seats) also
feature eye-catching contrasting panels and decorative stitching in
Mugello Red. The integral head restraints – with illuminated M5
logos for the front seats – display an outline of the legendary
    Nürburgring circuit.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The centre marker perforation with red background on the
    M Alcantara steering wheel is a classical racing car touch;
the gearshift paddles are made from carbon fibre and the
steering wheel spokes have Black Chrome trim.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>A fixed lightweight cover on the centre console replaces the usual
armrest with opening lid. Its black Merino leather is complemented
by red double stitching. The colour red is used again for the “CS”
badging on the instrument panel and between the bucket-style seats
    in the rear.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The BMW kidney grille surround on the BMW M5 CS, the “M5 CS” badges
on the kidney grille, the M gills on the front wings and the
boot lid are finished in the bold colour shade Gold Bronze, as are
    the 20‑inch M forged wheels in Y-spoke design (front: 9.5 J x 20,
rear: 10.5 J x 20). The door sill finishers come with illuminated
    “M5 CS” badges.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The L-shaped light tubes of the BMW Laser headlights illuminate
yellow instead of white when low beam, high beam or the Welcome
Light is switched on, bringing successful GT racing cars to mind.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The bonnet, front splitter, exterior mirror caps, rear spoiler,
rear diffuser, M Power engine compartment cover and intake silencer
are made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Some elements
    feature exposed carbon fibre.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>Standard specification for the M5 CS includes its stainless-steel
sports exhaust system with four unadorned tailpipes and the M Carbon
ceramic brakes, whose callipers are painted in Red as standard or
    Gold as an option.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>Available alongside the Brands Hatch Grey metallic paint shade are
the exclusive BMW Individual matt paint finishes Frozen Brands Hatch
Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The market launch of the new BMW M5 CS will get underway in spring
2021; in Germany it will be priced at 180,400 euros.</p>
  <p> </p>
<p>The fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures are
determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the
version applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic
configuration in Germany. The range shown considers the different
sizes of the selected wheels/tyres and the selected items of
optional equipment, and may vary during configuration.</p>
  <p>
<br clear="all" />The values are based on the new WLTP test cycle
and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to
ensure comparability between the vehicles. With respect to these
vehicles, for vehicle-related taxes or other duties based (at least
inter alia) on CO2 emissions, the CO2 values
may differ from the values stated here (depending on national legislation).</p>

<li>BMW M GmbH has made its BMW M5 (fuel consumption combined:
      10.6 – 10.5 l/100 km [26.6 – 26.9 mpg imp];
      CO2 emissions combined: 242 – 239 g/km) and BMW M5
      Competition (fuel consumption combined: 10.6 – 10.5 l/100 km [26.6
      – 26.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 242 – 239
g/km) high-performance sedans better than ever with some stylistic
fine-tuning and a skilfully honed operating concept. The 4.4‑litre
V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology generates 441
kW/600 hp in the BMW M5 and 460 kW/625 hp in the BMW M5
Competition. The eight‑speed M Steptronic transmission with
Drivelogic comes as standard, as does M xDrive all-wheel drive,
which also includes a 2WD setting for pure rear-wheel drive.</li>
<li>Featuring new shock absorbers from the BMW M8 Gran Coupé and
a retuned chassis, the BMW M5 Competition offers even better
driveability and handling at the limit, combined with superior
comfort levels. The BMW M5 Competition sits seven millimetres
lower than the BMW M5 and includes other well-conceived tweaks to
the suspension and springs. This setup makes allowance for the
car’s extra power and truly comes into its own on the race track.</li>
<li>The BMW M5 sprints from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in only
      3.4 seconds and passes 200 km/h (124 mph) with just 11.1 seconds
on the clock. The BMW M5 Competition reaches both marks a fraction
      more quickly: 100 km/h (62 mph) is up in 3.3 seconds, 200 km/h
      (124 mph) in 10.8 seconds.</li>
<li>As on the BMW 5 Series range, the updated BMW kidney grille
drops down further into the front apron; its chrome surround now
has a one-piece design framing both kidney elements, which sport
      M‑specific double bars and an M badge.</li>
<li>The restyled front apron has bolder contouring and larger air
intakes at the sides, while the large central air intake is
hexagonal in shape and incorporates the oil cooler along with the
radar sensor for the Active Cruise Control (ACC) system.</li>
<li>New L‑shaped light tubes searing in narrow streaks towards the
kidney grille add a dynamic flourish to the newly designed LED
headlights. The new option of BMW Individual lights Shadowline
adds a dark-tinted accent to the Adaptive LED Headlights and BMW Laserlight.</li>
<li>The LED rear lights now have a three-dimensional feel to them
and provide a fresh take on the familiar BMW L shape with their
      precise light graphic.</li>
<li>The larger central display with a diagonal of 12.3 inches makes
it easier than ever to keep a clear eye on the myriad functions of
the driving dynamics systems and BMW M xDrive.</li>
<li>The new two-button operating concept in the centre console
originates from the BMW M8. The M Mode button lets the driver
toggle swiftly between the ROAD and SPORT settings. The Setup
button takes them straight to the central display’s menu, where
they can select an individual configuration for the powertrain and
chassis options. The BMW M5 Competition also offers TRACK mode,
for an undiluted M feeling on race circuits.</li>
<li>The Brands Hatch Grey and Motegi Red metallic colours are both
new, as are the BMW Individual finishes Tanzanite Blue II
metallic, Aventurine Red II metallic and matt Frozen Bluestone
metallic. Champagne Quartz metallic has been renamed Alvit Grey metallic.</li>
<li>The 20-inch M double-spoke wheels in polished Orbit Grey
familiar from the BMW M8 are now available as an option.</li>
<li>The standard M Compound brakes can now be specified with
callipers painted in High-gloss Black or High-gloss Red as an
alternative to the existing blue finish.</li>
<li>Prices in Germany will start at €120,900 for the BMW M5 and
      €129,900 for the BMW M5 Competition.</li></ul>

<strong>Singapore. </strong>BMW Asia and Performance Munich Autos
today launched the all-new BMW M5, a car that takes driving dynamics
into a new dimension. Making its debut in the sixth generation of the
  high-performance sedan is the new M-specific all-wheel-drive system M
xDrive. Not only does this drive system enable the M5 to reach new
heights of dynamic performance, it means that it excels in terms of
everyday practicality and delivers supreme poise in all driving
  conditions as well.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>State-of-the-art driving dynamics: the systematic evolution of
    the high-performance concept. </strong></p>
<p>The car’s ability to juggle complete suitability for everyday use on
the one hand and sheer driving pleasure and superb track performance
on the other is down to the M xDrive system’s central intelligent
control capability. When the engine is first started, the all-new BMW
M5 will be in all-wheel-drive mode (4WD) with Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) switched on. The driver is then able to vary the
handling characteristics of the all-new BMW M5 by activating various
driving dynamics modes, including a rear-wheel-drive mode with no DSC.
In this 2WD mode, the all-new BMW M5 allows accomplished drivers to
  enjoy a pure-bred form of driving pleasure.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Hard at work under the bonnet of the all-new BMW M5 is the latest and
most advanced version of the 4.4-litre V8 engine featuring M TwinPower
Turbo technology. Output of 600 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm promise
supreme propulsive power and formidable performance. The twin-turbo V8
  unit propels the all-new BMW M5 from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.4
  seconds, for instance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The task of relaying the drive power falls to the new eight-speed M
Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which teams up with the M
xDrive system to transfer the high-revving engine’s turbocharged might
to the road to optimum effect in all driving conditions. The upshot of
all this is that the all-new BMW M5 is not just the fastest of all the
BMW M5 models built since 1984, but the most nimble too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>M TwinPower Turbo, M xDrive and the eight-speed M Steptronic
transmission: sublime drive power and supreme shift comfort. </strong></p>
<p>Following a thorough overhaul, the 4.4-litre V8 engine with M
TwinPower Turbo technology is now more potent than ever. The
high-revving power unit in the all-new BMW M5 delivers its exceptional
output of 600 hp at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm, while the tremendous peak
torque of 750 Nm is on tap from just 1,800 rpm and remains constant
all the way up to 5,600 rpm. Compared to the outgoing model, maximum
torque has been upped by 70 Nm. The engine characteristics can be
changed at the push of a button from the basic Efficient setting to
either Sport or Sport Plus, resulting in even more willing response to
  movements of the accelerator.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M engineers have implemented a raft of enhancements to endow the
twin-turbo V8 with its phenomenal performance capabilities. These
include newly developed turbochargers and a higher maximum injection
pressure of 350 bar. This allows shorter injection times and improved
atomisation of the fuel for sharper engine response as well as more
efficient mixture preparation. Improvements have also been made to the
lubrication and cooling systems, including an oil pan with a small
front sump and indirect charge air cooling, which is more effective
than the predecessor’s equivalents despite taking up less space. The
oil supply system uses a fully variable, map-controlled pump and has
been designed for outings on the race track, where it can handle very
high levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Modifications have likewise been made to the cross-bank exhaust
manifolds for the all-new BMW M5. This has the effect of optimising
the transmission of energy from the exhaust gas flows to the turbine
wheels of the two turbochargers and ensuring the best possible
gas-exchange cycle. By fitting a Helmholtz resonator between the two
silencers of the dual-branch exhaust system, the M engineers have
succeeded in reducing its weight. The sound from the flap-controlled
exhaust system varies depending on the selected mode for the engine
characteristics, while the M Sound Control button also allows drivers
of the all-new BMW M5 to soften its acoustic presence.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The twin-turbo V8’s power is channelled to the road via the newly
developed M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The wonderfully nimble
rear-biased set-up is achieved by the M xDrive system only bringing
the front wheels into play when the rear wheels aren’t able to
transmit any more power to the road and additional tractive force is
required. Even when it is being driven in a particularly sporty manner
and unleashing high levels of power, the all-new BMW M5 with M xDrive
behaves predictably and can be controlled with ease by the driver,
paving the way for an even more intense experience of the business
  sedan’s phenomenal performance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The principal hardware components of M xDrive are based on the BMW
xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and the Active M
Differential, while the central M-specific driving dynamics control
software takes care of orchestrating the various components to
extremely innovative effect. The drivetrain has been reinforced for
greater rigidity and strength to make allowance for the high torque,
the rear-biased configuration and the 2WD option. While the transfer
case splits a portion of the drive torque between the front and rear
wheels in a smoothly adjustable ratio depending on requirements, the
Active M Differential is responsible for then distributing the drive
  torque between the rear wheels.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the case of the active control element within the M xDrive
system’s scope of functions, the locking effect is varied as the
situation demands. This thereby ensures enhanced traction, agility and
directional stability when the car is being driven in a very sporty
manner or on roads with differing levels of grip – i.e. exactly when
it is needed. With M xDrive, stabilising interventions from the DSC
system are only required in extreme situations, enabling the engine’s
tremendous power to be converted into propulsive force with virtually
zero losses. The result of all this is that the all-new BMW M5 can be
piloted with even greater precision and directional accuracy, responds
sensitively and directly to the driver’s inputs and thus requires few
steering corrections when driving at the limit.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>More ambitious drivers can configure M xDrive at any time to suit
their needs. Even in the default setting with both DSC and 4WD
activated, the all-new BMW M5 allows a certain amount of slip at the
rear wheels when accelerating out of corners to produce the agility
for which M models are renowned. But the all-new BMW M5 also remains
perfectly controllable at all times. The all-wheel drive’s superior
traction helps to produce acceleration times that are simply
phenomenal by sports sedan standards and would be worthy of a
  super-sports car: 0 to 100 km/h in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds and 0 to
  200 km/h in just 11.1 seconds.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Switching to the M Dynamic mode (MDM, 4WD Sport) gives a further
major boost to the car’s handling agility. Yet more drive torque is
now directed to the rear axle, while the amount of permissible rear
wheel slip is increased. This lets drivers put the all-new M5 into
controlled drifts and enjoy its playful handling. While doing so, the
onset of oversteer is noticeable in good time and the linear increase
of the sideslip angle means that the vehicle remains stable even when
  driving at the limit.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The three modes available with the DSC system switched off have been
configured chiefly for driving on race tracks. The 4WD mode is set up
for the greatest possible controllability and traction, and already
offers plenty of scope for exploring the dynamic performance
capabilities of the all-new BMW M5. The 4WD Sport mode, meanwhile,
with its blend of supreme steering precision, delightful handling and
reassuring traction, offers a sure-fire guarantee of unadulterated
driving pleasure. The pure rear-wheel-drive mode (2WD) has been
designed with the experienced and highly adept driver in mind. This
opens up the same thrilling experience already offered by past
generations of the M5 that of a high-performance sedan devoted to the
art of generating driving pleasure with no control systems to hold it back.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic has
also been strictly geared towards sporty performance. The incredibly
short shift times and optimal ratio spacing will keep even the most
demanding driver happy. What’s more, the wide ratio spread of the
eight-speed M Steptronic unit helps to optimise fuel efficiency, too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The M Steptronic transmission allows both fully automatic shifting
and sequential gear shifts – using either the new short gear selector
on the centre console of the all-new BMW M5 or the M shift paddles on
the steering wheel. The transmission has been engineered for
instantaneous response and lightning-fast gear changes in classic M
style. The torque converter lock-up clutch is already fully engaged
once the car has pulled away.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The transmission’s shift mapping can be modified using the Drivelogic
rocker switch on the gear selector. Drivelogic mode 1 corresponds to
efficient driving. Mode 2 lends itself to quick driving with its
shortened shift times. And Drivelogic mode 3 is optimised for sporty
driving on the track thanks to its extremely short shift times. Those
preferring to shift gear manually can also execute sporty multiple
downshifts to the lowest available gear, for instance when braking
into tight corners. There are no automatic upshifts when the engine is
revved to the limit either. A transmission oil cooler ensures flawless
transmission operation even when the car is put through its paces on
  the track.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Superior chassis technology: a new dimension in driving
    dynamics. </strong></p>
<p>Unbeatable driving dynamics with maximum directional stability – that
was the goal of the team responsible for tuning the all-new BMW M5
chassis. As is usual for BMW M GmbH, the tuning took place in part on
the company’s own race circuit at Miramas in the south of France, as
well as on the world’s toughest test track, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The precise, agile handling that drivers have come to expect from
previous generations of the BMW M5 has been further optimised for the
new car. Individual driver needs are met by the wide range of options
for configuring the vehicle, including: M xDrive, the eight-speed M
Steptronic with Drivelogic, the M-specific Variable Damper Control
(incl. three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus) with
electronically controlled shock absorbers and M Servotronic steering
(incl. three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A top priority when tuning the chassis of the all-new BMW M5 was to
achieve neutral steering behaviour, even at the dynamic limits. An
important factor here is linear build-up of transverse loads across
the full range of lateral acceleration. Whatever the driving
situation, the electromechanical M Servotronic steering delivers
exactly the right amount of steering torque. This ensures that the
all-new BMW M5 has superbly accurate steering and always delivers
clear feedback. What’s more, the car is great for long-distance
driving, as well as being a joy in the city and on short journeys
thanks to the low steering force required for manoeuvring and parking.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The familiar double-wishbone suspension from the front axle of the
BMW 5 series has been reworked from the ground up for the all-new BMW
M5 with M xDrive. M engineers have redesigned every component to
factor in M-specific kinematic and elastokinematic characteristics.
Directional stability is greater than ever thanks to the increased
track width. The five-link rear suspension has also been modified to
meet M-specific requirements. New toe links featuring stiffer rubber
mounts help accommodate the increased demands on the driving dynamics
and steering precision, as do firmer anti-roll bars and lower
wishbones that have been optimised for stiffness.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Specially developed for the all-new BMW M5, the elastomer bearings on
the rear axle mounts ensure that there is no delay in transferring
chassis forces, which makes for superbly direct handling. An
additional steel X-brace and an aluminium transverse strut increase
the stiffness of the chassis linkages at the rear axle, resulting in
improved response. Further chassis modifications not visible
externally perform functions that are no less important. For example,
an aluminium tower-to-bulkhead stiffening profile and two
tower-to-frontend struts enhance stiffness at the front of the car.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The tyres fitted as standard on the BMW M5 (20-inch
seven-double-spoke wheels in Bicolour; front: 275/35 R 20, at rear:
285/35 R 20) have been specially selected. They are mounted on
five-double-spoke cast light-alloy wheels in polished Orbit Grey
  (front: 9.5 J x 19, rear: 10.5 J x 19). All wheels are ZR speed rated,
making them suitable for the top speed of 305 km/h achieved by the
  all-new BMW M5 with M Driver’s Package (standard version: 250 km/h).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The all-new BMW M5 comes with M compound brakes fitted as standard.
Being significantly lighter than conventional cast iron items, these
have the distinct benefit of reducing unsprung mass. At the front, the
braking force is applied to perforated, inner-vented brake discs by
blue-painted six-piston fixed callipers featuring the M logo.
Deceleration at the rear is provided by single-piston floating
calliper brakes, also in blue, with integrated parking brake.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>M carbon-ceramic brakes are also available as an option on the
all-new BMW M5. These are instantly recognisable from the
gold-coloured callipers with M logo (six-piston fixed callipers at
front, single-piston floating callipers at rear) and are 23 kilograms
lighter, which means a further reduction in unsprung and rotating
masses. This offers many benefits, including improved driving dynamics
and increased suspension comfort. The M carbon-ceramic brakes provide
even better braking performance than M compound brakes, as well as
further improved fade resistance and even higher thermal stability.
What is more, they withstand wear exceptionally well.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>Sporting M design with distinction: form driven by function. </strong></p>
<p>Like all the models to come out of BMW M GmbH HQ in Garching, its
design is M-specific and driven by function. For example, the newly
designed front bumper trim, with its larger air intakes, has the task
of keeping the cooling systems and brakes sufficiently supplied with
cooling air – even in exacting use on the race track. The car has a
wider track than its predecessor, and the front side panels (made from
aluminium to save weight) bear the signature M gills.</p>
<p>Also hewn from aluminium is the bonnet, whose precise lines carve an
eye-catching sculpture and extend visually into the shaping of the
roof. In an M5 first, the roof itself is made from extremely
  lightweight, high-strength carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The rear diffuser has likewise been redesigned. Together with the
side skirts, the M rear apron and M rear spoiler play their part in
giving the M5 its powerfully sporting appearance, and the exterior
mirrors have a dynamic, M-specific design. The hexagonal central air
intake in the front end not only separates itself sculpturally from
the side air intakes, in another example of form following function it
  also incorporates the oil cooler.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The interior focuses squarely on the driver; absolute control in all
driving situations is the motto here. At the same time, the all-new
BMW M5 offers space for up to four passengers, a large boot and
excellent ride comfort. As a high-performance sports car and business
sedan in one, it blends the best of both worlds.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
<strong>Equipment without compromise: the driver is at the heart of
    the action. </strong></p>
<p>When it comes to the equipment on board the all-new BMW M5, the
dynamic driving experience is always king. The centre-point is the
driver’s seat, from where all switches and buttons can be operated
with optimum ergonomic convenience. All of the car’s functions are
sited directly in the driver’s eye line. The large digital instrument
cluster from the BMW 5 Series has an M-specific design and keeps the
driver informed on the driving dynamic mode, M xDrive all-wheel-drive
system’s setting and Drivelogic option currently engaged. Key elements
here for the sporty driver are the variable rpm pre-warning field and
shift lights that show the best time to change gears when in manual
shift mode. This data can also be reflected into the M-specific
  Head-Up Display.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Virtually all of the driving dynamic systems can be configured using
the central touch display, buttons on the centre console or M sports
steering wheel, and the central information display offers gesture
control. The all-new BMW M5’s engine is stirred into life by pressing
the red starter button. Among the essential features for drivers with
sporting aspirations are the two red-painted M1 and M2 buttons next to
the gearshift paddles on the M multifunction steering wheel, which
allow drivers to configure two individual set-ups for the M5. These
include their choice of M xDrive, DSC, engine, transmission, damper
and steering characteristics, as well as the appearance of M view in
  the Head-Up Display.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The all-new BMW M5 is trimmed with Merino leather as standard. The
driver and front passenger settle into M sports seats with electric
adjustment and an embossed M logo in the head restraints. As well as
electric adjustment for the seat depth, there is also pneumatic
backrest width adjustment to deliver optimum lateral support, which is
particularly important when the driver is pushing on. The driver’s
seat also has a memory function. The standard M multifunction seats
with integral head restraints providing even better support in the
shoulder area, an illuminated M5 logo and extended functions. With
their racing-style bucket shape and the thicker side bolsters of the
seat surface and backrest, the M multifunction seats offer even
greater lateral support. For the first time, the all-new BMW M5 is now
also available with all the driver assistance systems and features
familiar from the new BMW 5 Series.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The all-new BMW M5 can be ordered in a variety of exterior colours,
some of which are reserved exclusively for the M5. New additions to
the spectrum include Marina Bay Blue Metallic, an intense shade of
blue. Matt finishes such as Frozen Dark Silver and Frozen Arctic Grey
can be specified as an option. Inside the car, exclusive aluminium
  applications with a carbon-structure provide a special sporting flourish.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
<strong>In the best of company: Previous generations of the BMW M5.
The M5 has been the quintessential sports sedan for over 30 years. </strong></p>
<p>Since 1984, the BMW M5 has been a standard-bearer for fast
high-performance sedans preferring not to shout about their sporting
potential. The various generations of the BMW M5 have always possessed
pure-bred racing genes and acquitted themselves impressively on the
race track as well as on the road. The new BMW M5 represents the sixth
generation of the super-powered 5 Series. And, like those that have
gone before it, the new model promises to continue BMW M GmbH’s record
of building distinctive sports cars that really can be used every day.
Below is a brief look back at the five generations of the BMW M5 that
  have gone before.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>1984: The E28S BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>BMW Motorsport GmbH had already presented the M535i – a particularly
sporty 5 Series – back in 1979 and followed it up with another M535i
based on the E12’s successor (the E28) in 1984, before the first
generation of the BMW M5 (the E28S) arrived on the scene in autumn
that year. It was powered by the celebrated four-valve six-cylinder
in-line engine with 3.5-litre displacement and 286 hp, which had also
proved itself in race competition and was familiar from the
mid-engined M1 sports car. Equipped with individual throttle
butterflies, the engine powered the original M5 from 0 – 100 km/h in
just 6.5 seconds and gave it a top speed of 245 km/h. That made the
first BMW M5 the fastest four-door series-produced sedan of its time.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>
  <strong>1988: The E34S/E34/5S BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>The introduction of the second-generation M5 (the E34S) in 1988 saw
BMW Motorsport GmbH raise the power stakes by a clear margin once
again. The new car developed 315 hp from its straight-six engine,
whose displacement had been increased to 3.6 litres. That was enough
to propel the M5 to 250 km/h for the first time. An update in 1992
(known as the E34/5S) took displacement to 3.8 litres and output to
340 hp. And from 1992 the über-5 Series was also available in a
Touring estate version, whose rarity (just under 900 units were
produced) has made it a highly prized young classic.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>1998: The E39S BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>The sports-focused branch of BMW AG – rechristened BMW M GmbH in 1993
  – remained true to its heritage with the third generation of the M5
unveiled in 1998. The E39S M5 shared all the stylistic understatement
of its predecessors. However, under the bonnet of the new car was a
  five-litre four-valve V8, which sent a full 400 hp and 500 Nm of peak
torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The top
speed of this new M5 was once again electronically limited to 250
  km/h, while 0 to 100 km/h took 5.3 seconds.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>2005: The E60/E61 BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>For the fourth BMW M5 (the E60), M GmbH put its faith in a newly
developed, high-revving V10 engine with five-litre displacement, which
generated its maximum output of 507 hp at an eyebrow-raising 7,750
rpm. The four-valve power unit whisked the fourth-generation M5 from 0
to 100 km/h in only 4.7 seconds. For the first time, M5 drivers could
have the car’s speed limiter raised by specifying the M Driver’s
Package – and that turned the M5 into a 305 km/h car. Another new
addition was the automated sequential M gearbox (SMG) with seven gears
and Launch Control for maximum acceleration off the line. This BMW M5
was also available in Touring (E61) guise – from 2007.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>2011: The F10M BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>The fifth-generation BMW M5 (the F10M) took to the stage in 2011.
  Replacing the V10 engine was a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 that fired the M5
into new dimensions. The new M5 now developed almost double the power
(560 hp) of the original M5. Its 680 Nm of peak torque also
represented virtually twice what the E28S could offer (340 Nm). M
TwinPower Turbo technology enabled the latest M5 with a seven-speed M
  Double Clutch Transmission to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in a mere 4.3
seconds and on to a maximum 315 km/h. This was followed in 2013 by the
M5 with Competition Package, which packed a 575 hp punch. And in 2014
  came the “30 Jahre M5” (30 years of the M5) special-edition model
producing 600 hp, which paid tribute to the original E28S M5 and was
limited to 300 units. In 2016 sales began of the likewise 600 hp “M5
Competition Edition” special edition, which was capped at 200 units.</p>
<p>
  <strong> </strong></p>
<p>
  <strong>2018: The F90 BMW M5. </strong></p>
<p>The all-new BMW M5 (the F90) sees BMW M GmbH writing the next chapter
in a success story which began over 30 years ago and is based on an
apparently simple recipe: unbeatable sports performance and
unimpeachable everyday usability brought together into one supreme package.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The all-new BMW M5 is now available for viewing at the Performance
  Munich Autos showroom.</p>

  <strong>The new BMW M5.</strong></p>
<p>The new BMW M5 (fuel consumption combined: 10.5 l/100 km
  [26.9 mpg imp]*; CO2 emissions combined: 241 g/km*) takes BMW M GmbH
into new territory, with M xDrive all-wheel drive featuring in the
high-performance sedan for the first time. This change of tack sees
the M5 exploring new dynamic dimensions and offering greater everyday
practicality in all driving conditions. The new car is committed to
building on the tradition of a concept – the luxurious four-door
business sedan with a taste for the race track – first glimpsed in
1984 with the original BMW M5.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new M xDrive developed by BMW M GmbH is the most emotionally
engaging all-wheel-drive system yet to grace the high-performance
segment. It works with a central transfer case with multi-plate clutch
and distributes drive fully variably between the front and rear axle,
as required. Another ingredient in the car’s supreme traction in all
road and weather conditions is the Active M Differential at the rear
axle, which also works fully variably and has a locking effect between
  0 and 100 per cent.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The character of M xDrive can be adjusted as desired. The driver has
five different configurations to choose from based on combinations of
the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD
Sport, 2WD). In the basic setting with DSC (Dynamic Stability Control)
activated and 4WD, the system permits slight slip through the rear
wheels when accelerating out of corners – and therefore plays its part
in giving the new BMW M5 its sporting agility. In M Dynamic mode (MDM,
4WD Sport) M xDrive allows easily controlled drifts. The three
M xDrive modes with DSC switched off have been conceived to sate the
appetites of keen drivers and primarily for use on the track. Here,
the driver can choose from three configurations up to and including
pure rear-wheel drive (2WD). This mode allows the driver to pick their
own drift angle and treats connoisseurs to driving dynamics in their
  purest form.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Providing ample power for the new BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo
engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The M engineers have carried
out significant revisions to the outgoing model’s power unit. For
example, newly developed turbochargers, ultra-efficient indirect
charge air cooling and increased fuel injection pressure together help
to raise output and, above all, torque. The engine develops
  441 kW/600 hp at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm, while a monumental 750 Nm (553
lb-ft) of torque is placed at the driver’s disposal from as low down
as 1,800 rpm and remains there until 5,600 rpm. A map-controlled,
fully variable oil pump ensures oil is supplied as and when the new
BMW M5 needs it, even on the track. The car’s impressive performance
figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4
  seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds (124 mph). Top speed,
meanwhile, is an electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph), but the
  optional M Driver’s Package can keep the fun coming to 305 km/h (189 mph).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW M5 channels all that power through a specially tuned
eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. In D mode it
provides all the comfort and convenience of fully automatic gear
changes, but can then also switch to sequential manual shifts. The
driver can do this using either the compact selector lever on the
centre console or the steering wheel-mounted paddles. Drivelogic
allows the driver to adjust the transmission’s characteristics to
their personal preferences. For track use, the
eight-speed M Steptronic unit serves up lightning-fast shift times,
helping to give the new BMW M5 its exceptional agility and dynamic flair.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The suspension of the new BMW M5 is likewise designed to deliver both
maximum traction for everyday use and supreme dynamic performance on
the track. Like the engine, transmission and M xDrive system, it has
been tuned by experts and racing drivers at venues including the
world’s most exacting test facility – the Nürburgring Nordschleife
circuit. Sophisticated stiffening elements in the front and rear
structures ensure the body structure is extremely rigid and therefore
that the car provides instantaneous feedback, in particular when the
driver is pushing hard on the road or track.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The driver can also choose from Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes
for the Variable Damper Control (VDC) system – which has M-specific
tuning – and the M Servotronic steering. And the engine’s
characteristics can also be configured to the driver’s tastes via the
Efficient, Sport and Sport Plus modes. The two M1 and M2 buttons on
the M leather steering wheel can be used to store two set-ups
combining the driver’s preference of engine, transmission, suspension
and M xDrive modes, the DSC mode and Head-Up-Display settings. The
driver can then activate their preferred set-up by pressing the
  relevant button.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW M5 includes revisions to its bodywork over the regular
BMW 5 Series to satisfy its challenging dynamic brief. The M engineers
have redesigned the broader front side panels and front bumper trim to
include larger apertures for the air feeding the cooling systems and</p>
<p> </p>
<p>brakes. Also new is the rear diffuser. The exhaust system’s quartet
of tailpipes are a visual pointer to the power generated by the BMW M5
and also lay on a suitably sporting soundtrack for the job in hand,
courtesy of their flap control system. The driver can use a button to
adjust the engine sound as desired.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The bonnet, which also has an M-specific design, is made from
aluminium and boasts eye-catching sculpture lines. These extend into
the extremely lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof
  – a standard feature of the new M5. The weight savings contributed by
the CFRP roof and other components such as the exhaust system help to
ensure the new BMW M5 with M xDrive all-wheel drive is lighter than
  its predecessor.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The new BMW M5 is fitted as standard with M compound brakes, which
are lighter than conventional grey cast iron items and therefore also
bring down the car’s weight. With blue-painted six-piston fixed
callipers at the front and single-piston floating callipers at the
rear, plus perforated, inner-vented brake discs all round, the M
compound brakes have the speed-shedding power to befit the car’s
dynamic potency. The optional M carbon ceramic brakes, which can be
identified by callipers painted in a gold colour and shave another
23 kilograms off the M5’s weight, can withstand even greater punishment.</p>
<p> </p>
