Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 7, 2023… New design details, expanded standard equipment, electrification across-the-board, and advancements in digital technology define the next stage in the evolution of BMW’s X5 Sports Activity Vehicle and X6 Sports Activity Coupe. The entire range of powertrains has been comprehensively reengineered. The plug-in hybrid drive in the 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e has significantly more power and a greater purely electric range than its predecessor. And the introduction of 48V mild-hybrid technology to the V8 engine has increased its power, performance, and refinement. Also pointing the way into the future are new systems for automated driving and parking, plus the latest-generation iDrive control system with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Operating System 8.

The 2024 BMW X5 and X6 will make their public debut at The Amelia in March. Production of both models will begin in April 2023 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, South Carolina – the global competence center for BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, and the high performance BMW XM. Base MSRPs are as follows:

The new BMW X5: new design elements, illuminated BMW kidney grille. 

The front fascia of the 2024 BMW X5 is characterized by a new design for the signature BMW headlights and kidney grille. The outlines of the new headlight units are 35 millimeters narrower. Its arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements point outwards and also serve as turn signal indicators.

The illuminated BMW kidney grille can be specified for the first time as an option on BMW X5 xDrive50e, X5 sDrive 40i, and X5 xDrive40i. The illumination is activated when one of the doors is opened and can be switched on or off manually by the driver via the iDrive menu.

The BMW kidney grille is now bordered by sculpted surfaces which bring a modern appeal to the front end. Vertical air curtains positioned at the outer edges emphasise the width of the new X5, and the lower air intake has a new horizontal trim detail and triangular apertures in its outer areas.

Newly designed air breathers, LED rear lights with X motif. 

The air breathers in the front side panels of the BMW X5 also have a new design, with a dynamically curved element at the front – finished either in chrome or in black, depending on model or package – and three horizontal blades at their trailing edge.

At the rear, newly designed rear lights feature striking contours of fiber-optic light elements. The traditional L-shape is reflected horizontally, creating an ‘X’ motif within the rear lights.

The new BMW X5 can be specified with the optional M Sport package, which adds a front apron with M-specific design, roof rails in black high-gloss, M high-gloss Shadowline trim, and a rear apron with a dark-shaded inlay and trapezoidal tailpipe trim.

The new BMW X6: expressive front end design and standard M Sport package. 

The BMW X6 created the Sports Activity Coupe segment, and in its third generation it continues to embody a powerful sporting character and forceful visual presence. The long, swooping roofline and crisp contour lines create a dynamically stretched silhouette. 

As on the X5, the new X6 features slim headlight units with arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements. The dynamic intent of the new BMW X6 is futher highlighted by the now standard M Sport package, distinguished by an octagonal design element below the BMW kidney grille, prominent side apertures, and generous use of black surfaces.

Powerful styling at the back with slim lights extending well into the tailgate. 

M-specific side skirts and M High-gloss Shadowline trim express the athletic character of the new BMW X6. The taut surfacing of the flanks and muscular shoulder lines transition smoothly into a powerful design at the rear. The slim taillights reach far into the tailgate, and their light signature is defined by the familiar L-shape of the rear light and brake light bars.

Flagship models with distinctive design features. 

At the top of their respective model ranges, the new BMW X5 M60i xDrive and BMW X6 M60i xDrive feature unique design details. Features including double bars and an M logo for the BMW kidney grille, M exterior mirror caps in high-gloss black, and exhaust tailpipe trim in a quad-pipe style speak to the high performance attributes of the 8-cylinder models. The new BMW X6 M60i xDrive also has a subtle rear spoiler in high-gloss black. 

The M Sport Professional package can be added as an enhancement to any X5 or X6 model already equipped with the M Sport package. Visually, the M Sport Professional package adds a kidney grille surround in matte black, exhaust tailpipe trim in black chrome, and darkened M Shadowline lights. Also included in the M Sport Professional package, are M Sport brakes with a choice of red or blue calipers, and an M Sport exhaust system (standard on the M60i models, not available for the BMW X5 xDrive50e).

New paint colors include Marina Bay Blue metallic for the X5 M60i xDrive and Isle of Man Green metallic for the X6 M60i xDrive. Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic and Frozen Pure Grey metallic are new additions to the color range. 

From the start of production, customers will be able to choose from around 40 BMW Individual special paintwork shades for their new BMW X5 and new BMW X6. These exclusive paint options are applied by hand in a meticulous process and the spectrum of colors is being expanded all the time.

BMW Curved Display with intuitive touch control and natural voice interation. 

The fully digital BMW Curved Display is at the heart of the interior redesign for the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6. It is made up of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches – both located behind a single glass surface. The touch control functionality of the BMW control display has brought about a significant reduction in the number of buttons and controls in favor of digital control for various functions.

Sensafin surfacing for the dashboard and a highly functional light bar. 

The newly designed dashboard serves as the perfect stage for the BMW Curved Display. Its horizontal structure emphasises the width of the cabin, while the surfacing in standard leather-like Sensafin deepens the premium character of the interior. The central air vents in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 are extremely slim and integrated into the instrument panel almost out of sight.

Another new interior feature is the ambient light bar with crystalline surface structure and crisp LED backlighting integrated below the trim element in the front passenger area. Interior light distribution, brightness, and choice of 15 colors can be configured via the iDrive menu. The ambient lighting system’s range of functions also includes the Welcome Light Carpet – which projects an unique graphic on the ground alongside the vehicle when the doors are unlocked or opened – and pulsating light signals that appear on the inner panelling of an open door when the engine is running.

Control panel in the center console with new toggle gear selector. 

Additional touch-sensitive surfaces are found on the new version of the control panel on the center console. It is home to the iDrive controller, engine start/stop button, and the buttons activating the electric parking brake, and the settings for the optional air suspension. Also found here are the Driving Experience Control buttons and the newly designed toggle gear selector. 

Exclusive glass applications for the selector toggle, the start/stop button, and the iDrive controller are included with the optional Executive Package.

Standard: sport seats in Sensafin upholstery. 

The standard sport seats in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 offer outstanding comfort as well as lateral support when the road gets twisty. Mulit-contour front seats are optional, and may be equipped with ventilation (as part of the Climate Comfort Package) and massage functions. The standard Sensafin upholstery, with its bold quilting decorative perforation, can be ordered in Silverstone, Coffee, Cognac, or Black (and striking Tacora Red is available on X6). Extended Merino leather is also available in Ivory, Coffee, Black, and Tartufo.

Powertrains with 48V mild-hybrid technology and an innovative plug-in hybrid system. 

A thoroughly updated range of engines, newly enhanced with electrification, enables the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 to deliver driving pleasure with greater poise, assurance, and efficiency. The V8 engines in the M60i models now benefit from 48V mild-hybrid technology, while the new X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid gains an extensively upgraded combustion engine and BMW eDrive technology that endows it with nearly 100 more horsepower while increasing the range of purely electric driving by 10 miles.

More power, more electric range: the BMW X5 xDrive50e.

The new BMW X5 xDrive50e combines a substantially revised gasoline engine with an electric drive unit to enhance both dynamic capability and efficiency. The new powertrain produces a maximum system output of up to 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque while permitting a preliminary estimated electric-only range of up to 40 miles.

The combustion engine and electric motor play an equal role in bringing these results. The latest incarnation of the 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology utilizes the highly efficient Miller combustion cycle, which shortens the time the intake valves are open. This power unit also features redesigned combustion chambers and intake ports, a new dual (direct and port) injection system, and a cylinder head with an integrated exhaust manifold. The VANOS variable camshaft timing now works electrically.

The electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission on the new BMW X5 xDrive50e boasts a substantial increase in power output and a novel innovation for boosting torque delivery. The new synchronous motor produces a nominal output of 194 hp – 83 more than the previous version. A pre-gearing stage is used to increase the effective torque produced by the electric motor to a maximum 331 lb-ft at the transmission input for the motor. In this way, the compact electric motor is able to provide the sort of torque boost that could normally only be achieved using a far larger and heavier unit. The improved build-up of power resulting from the pre-gearing stage between the electric motor’s rotor and the transmission’s input shaft makes a clear difference both when accelerating off the line and when putting in a quick burst of speed for passing. The new BMW X5 xDrive50e needs just 4.6 seconds to sprint from 0-60 mph in preliminary testing.

The electric motor draws its energy from a BMW 5^th generation high-voltage lithium-ion battery mounted under the floor. The battery can store 19.2 kWh of usable energy, an increase of about 12 percent compared with the preceding generation. A new Combined Charging Unit supports both single-phase and three-phase charging, doubling the maximum AC charging rate to 7.4 kW. Together with the electric motor’s excellent efficiency and the system of intelligent energy management, including adaptive recuperation, this results in an estimated electric range of up to 40 miles (estimated range of up to 40 miles according to preliminary BMW AG tests based on the EPA’s test procedure standards).

Latest-generation 48V mild hybrid technology for the internal combustion engines. 

Electrification in the form of 48V mild hybrid technology enhances the effortless power delivery in the ICE variants of the new BMW X5 and BMW X6, while also increasing their efficiency. The 6 and 8-cylinder combustion engines are combined with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with an integrated electric motor. The electric motor generates an output boost of up to 12 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque, helping the engine to deliver a smooth, dynamic drive along with high efficiency. The electric motor has the additional effect of enabling smoother operation of both the Automatic Start/Stop function and the coasting function active when the ECO PRO mode is selected.

The energy required for the electric power boost is stored in a 48V battery located in the engine compartment. It is charged during overrun and braking by means of adaptive recuperation and also feeds the regenerated energy to the vehicle’s electrical system.

New V8 for the M60i models. 

The BMW X5 M60i xDrive and X6 M60i xDrive models are both powered by a newly developed TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. The 4.4-liter power unit can trace its genes back to engines used in motorsport, and utilizes the thermodynamic benefits of a cross-bank exhaust manifold, bank-symmetrical turbochargers, and external engine oil cooling. In addition, a reinforced crankshaft drive, further developed turbocharging with a blow-off valve, a new oil pump, and a weight-minimized oil sump all play a role in increasing the engine’s efficiency. The engine is paired with 48V mild hybrid technology to produce superior response and power delivery under acceleration.

In both models, the S68 engine produces 523 hp and peak torque of 553 lb-ft. It propels the new X5 M60i xDrive and new X6 M60i xDrive from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds in preliminary testing.

More power, lower emissions: the new inline 6. 

The power unit under the hood of the new BMW X5 xDrive40i and BMW X6 xDrive40i is part of a new generation of inline 6-cylinder engines, as is the engine in the BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid. The 3.0-liter unit’s output of 375 hp in these two models is up by 40 compared its predecessor, while peak torque rises by 51 lb-ft to 383 – and can be boosted to as much as 398 lb-ft with the input of the mild-hybrid system. It enables both the new BMW X5 xDrive40i and new BMW X6 xDrive40i to dash from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds in preliminary testing.

This version of the new straight-six engine also benefits from extensive innovations affecting the combustion process, camshaft control, injection, ignition system and exhaust gas routing. It also features the latest version of VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control. Its switchable rocker arms on the exhaust side allow gas exchange to be shut off entirely if required, thereby reducing the engine’s frictional torque on the overrun by around two thirds, resulting in greater recouperation of braking energy.

The latest-generation 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission fitted to all variants of the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 comes with a host of innovations over and above the electric motor integrated into its housing. For example, the unit’s internal efficiency, vibration damping and isolation from rotational irregularities have all been optimized. A new electric transmission oil pump and a system of torsion dampers serve to increase not just efficiency, but also shift smoothness and driving comfort. And the shift characteristics are now adapted to the Driving Experience Control switch setting. The transmission automatically switches from the D setting to S when SPORT mode is activated.

In the 8-cylinder models and 6-cylinder models with the M Sport package, drivers will also be able to make use of the Sprint function when a quick burst of speed required. Here, the transmission automatically shifts into the lowest usable gear when the driver pulls the left-hand shift paddle for at least one second. At the same time, all of the powertrain and chassis systems are switched to their sportiest settings and the mild-hybrid system’s electric boost effect is activated.

Optional chassis systems in newly structured packages. 

The Adaptive M Suspension fitted as standard on the X5 M60i, X6 xDrive40i, and X6 M60i models and optional on X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, results in a noticeably more direct connection to the road. Electronically controlled dampers refine handling dynamics as well as primary ride comfort. Electromagnetically adjustable hydraulic valves allow the compression and rebound settings to be adapted in unison to suit the driving situation. The dampers respond adaptively both to road surface conditions and to driving style. The driver can use the Driving Experience Control switch to choose between a comfort-focused mode and a stiffer damper setting for a sportier response.

The optional adaptive two-axle air suspension (standard on X5 xDrive50e) with automatic self-levelling employs an electrically driven compressor with pressure reservoir to maintain the optimum ride height at all speeds, regardless of how much load is being carried. The result is comfortable, assured handling. The ride height is automatically lowered by 10 millimeters at speeds above 86 mph.

Integral Active Steering for greater agility, comfort and maneuverability. 

Integral Active Steering is now standard on M60i versions of the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 and has a beneficial effect on the vehicles’ agility, driving comfort, and maneuverability.

With Integral Active Steering, the rear wheels are turned in either the same direction as or the opposite direction to the front wheels, depending on road speed. This results in highly dynamic cornering abilities and assured lane changes at high speeds. Furthermore, the rear wheels can now be turned by up to three degrees until the vehicle is nearly stopped, reducing its turning circle when maneuvering into and out of parking spaces.

All 2024 X5s and X6s are fitted as standard with 20-inch wheels mounted on all-season runflat tires. Performance runflat tires are available in a 21-inch size, and performance non-runflat tires are available in a 22-inch size. Customers can choose from a selection of standard, M, and BMW Individual alloy wheels in 20, 21, and 22-inch sizes.

Driving Assistant Professional Package now offers Highway Assistant. 

The new Highway Assistant, part of the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package, ushers in a new dimension of assisted driving in the 2024 BMW X5 and X6, bringing with it new levels of convenience and stress-free travel over long distances. It allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel when driving on limited access highways at speeds up to 85 mph. Drivers must, however, always maintain focus on the road ahead and be prepared to assume responsibility for steering.

Assisted View in the instrument cluster gives the driver an overview of the activated systems and their functionality. The central area of the information display is reserved for a three-dimensional mock-up of the vehicle and its surroundings. Here, the driver can see an image of the cars, trucks and motorcycles detected by the cameras and sensors in the driver’s current lane, along with those in any adjacent lanes.

Parking Assistant Professional: enter and exit spaces by smartphone.

Drivers can also benefit from greater assistance when parking and maneuvering. The standard Reversing Assistant offers the option of automated reversing in confined spaces or situations where the driver does not have a clear view, such as multi-story parking garages or narrow curving driveways. The vehicle can store the steering movements for any section the vehicle has just driven forward through at no more than 22 mph. The system is then able to reverse the vehicle for distances of up to 50 meters by steering it back along the same route.

On models fitted with the optional Parking Assistant Professional, the Reversing Assistant is able to store steering movements for distances of up to 200 meters and then reproduce them in reverse. Furthermore, drivers now have the ability to control maneuvers into and out of especially tight parking spaces from outside the vehicle using the My BMW App on their smartphone (available for Apple iPhones with operating system iOS 16.2 or later).

In addition, the Maneuver Assistant now included in the Parking Assistant Professional package is able to store far more complex maneuvers using GPS data and the trajectory data from steering movements, and perform them as an automated routine. As many as ten maneuvers at different locations, covering a distance of up to 200 meters each and a combined total of 600 meters, can be recorded. When the vehicle arrives at a memorized starting point, the Maneuver Assistant will be able to carry out all the tasks required to complete the maneuver, controlling the accelerator, brakes and steering, as well as changing gear to move forward or reverse. If necessary, the vehicle can switch between the two directions of travel repeatedly while carrying out all the gear changes and steering inputs, for example when negotiating its way through a parking garage with little space and sharp corners. While the automated maneuver is in progress, the driver can focus on monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings. 

Drivers have the choice of controlling both the automated parking functionality and the Maneuver Assistant’s actions either from inside the vehicle or remotely using their iPhone. It is also possible to switch between the two modes, meaning that once an automated parking or other maneuver has begun, it can be interrupted at any time and then resumed from inside the vehicle or from outside using a smartphone. 

BMW Curved Display and latest-generation BMW iDrive. 

The new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 are fitted with the latest-generation BMW iDrive multi-sensory vehicle interface powered by BMW Operating System 8. Boasting new-generation software as well as powerful connectivity and data processing, it takes the interaction between the driver and vehicle into the digital future. The new BMW iDrive system offers more ways for drivers to enjoy easy, intuitive, multimodal control of vehicle, navigation, infotainment, and communication functions and also to use digital services. 

The user experience is supported by the seamless interaction between the touchscreen BMW Curved Display, the voice control, the iDrive controller, and the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. The display and operation system has been upgraded to include the latest version of the BMW head-up display, which offers a larger display area, enhanced graphics and additional content. The user experience can also be expanded to include the optional BMW Gesture Control.

Fully digital BMW Curved Display with state-of-the-art graphics. 

The BMW Curved Display in the new BMW X5 and the new BMW X6 is formed by a 12.3-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. The screens are housed together behind a curved glass surface, so they merge into a single, fully digital, high-resolution unit. With its ergonomic, driver-centric positioning, the BMW Curved Display makes the already intuitive touch control even more user-friendly.

The BMW Curved Display’s state-of-the-art graphics and the operation system’s menu structure have been designed with a smartphone-style appearance. The clearly structured arrangement of widgets on the control display’s home screen provides a simple overview of the menu options and can be configured by the driver as desired.

Natural dialogue with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. 

The new generation of BMW iDrive also sees the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant gain additional skills. Instructions in natural speech can be used to adjust the air conditioning, open a window or operate the panoramic glass roof, for instance. Various functions of the driver assistance systems in the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 can likewise be voice controlled. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is also capable of recognizing user behavior and proactively making suggestions to the driver on how the vehicle can best be used.

When the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is in use, new graphics appear in the displays to emphasize the system’s interactive character. The graphic “turns” towards the speaker, thereby visualizing how the system is listening attentively to what is being said. 

Precision navigating with Augmented View in the information display. 

The new Augmented View function included as part of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional enables accurate guidance while driving by supplementing the navigation system’s map view. A live video stream from the driver’s perspective can be shown on either the control or information display and augmented by supplementary graphics that provide more specific, situation-based information. When dealing with confusing junctions, for instance, an animated directional arrow is integrated into the video image to help the driver take the best turn-off for the planned route.

Welcome Scenario with lighting effect and personal greeting. 

The user experience starts before the driver has even reached the vehicle thanks to a newly devised Welcome Scenario. Ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technology determines the precise location of the key or compatible smartphone relative to the vehicle.  Once the distance to the vehicle drops below three meters, the coordinated welcome sequence begins. It starts with an orchestrated lighting effect using the exterior and interior lights, including the light carpet. The vehicle automatically unlocks when the driver is about 1.5 meters away. Once inside, the BMW Curved Display shows a choreographed start-up animation with a personal greeting, along with handy suggestions and information. Finally, the BMW ID settings are loaded, and the smartphone connected.

BMW Digital Key Plus. 

BMW’s Comfort Access keyless entry system now also includes the BMW Digital Key Plus. This enables customers to lock and unlock their BMW X5 or BMW X6 via security-enhanced ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technology from a compatible smartphone running either the iOS or Android operating system. A conventional car key is no longer required. Simply approaching the car or walking away triggers the unlocking or locking process; there is no need for the customer to even remove their smartphone from their pocket.

The BMW Digital Key Plus can be set up using the My BMW App. The car owner can also share it – and therefore access to the vehicle – with up to five other users who have a smartphone with either iOS or Android.

Emotionally engaging drive sound, even in locally emission-free driving mode: BMW IconicSounds Electric for the BMW X5 xDrive50e. 

With BMW IconicSounds Electric included as standard, the joy of driving while generating zero local emissions is accompanied by a special sound design inside the vehicle that provides authentic aural feedback to every movement of the accelerator pedal. 

The car’s soundtrack was developed as part of a collaboration between the BMW Group and film score composer Hans Zimmer. Different versions of the model-specific drive sound are created depending on the mode selected with the Driving Experience Control switch. Pressing the start/stop button additionally triggers an inspiring acoustic tone that signals the car is ready to drive.

Innovative functions for fully electric driving and user-friendly charging with the BMW X5 xDrive50e. 

The BMW Charging range of services has now also been integrated into the My BMW App. For example, the user can now control charging of the car’s high-voltage battery remotely by smartphone. Their preferred departure time can be entered to display the charge level the battery is expected to have reached by that point. And when the vehicle is plugged in, charging can be started or stopped at any time from the My BMW App, regardless of the charge level.

The BMW Charging range of services has now also been integrated into the My BMW App. For example, the user can now control charging of the car’s high-voltage battery remotely by smartphone. Their preferred departure time can be entered to display the charge level the battery is expected to have reached by that point. And when the vehicle is plugged in, charging can be started or stopped at any time from the My BMW App, regardless of the charge level.

Optimum connectivity with 5G and Personal eSIM.

The standard Personal eSIM allows the customer to use the communications and connectivity functions covered by their mobile contract from their vehicle with ease – even in situations where they don’t have their smartphone with them.  This essentially turns the BMW X5 or BMW X6 into another digital and connected device. Mobile reception for both data and phone calls is significantly improved by the vehicle’s own 5G antenna system. Furthermore, the Personal eSIM is not linked to just one car, but the user’s BMW ID – meaning it can be transferred to other BMW vehicles with Personal eSIM functionality. The Personal eSIM also creates a WiFi hotspot in for use by up to ten devices at any one time.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 2, 2019… Today, BMW is pleased to announce the new 2020 X6 Sports Activity Coupe. More than ten years ago, BMW combined the attributes of the Sports Activity Vehicle with the more aggressive DNA of a Coupe to create the X6 and the new Sports Activity Coupe class. Since then, over 443,000 of the extroverted BMW X6 have been purchased by customers world-wide.  

The new 2020 BMW X6’s muscular form and sharp, creased lines are the external visuals for a combination of the most advanced powertrain, chassis, safety, driving assistance and technology systems that BMW has to offer. All with the added benefit of a luxurious interior space for up to five passengers, all-surface and all-weather capability and an available factory trailer package rated for up to 7,200 lbs towing.

The new X6 will be produced at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina alongside the X3, X4, X5 and X7. As BMW’s largest production plant, Spartanburg is the center of global X vehicle competence, employs over 10,000 people and is supported by 300 suppliers across the U.S. 70 percent of the X vehicles produced in Plant Spartanburg are exported to 140 countries worldwide making BMW the largest exporter of vehicles, by value, from the U.S.

MSRP pricing starts at $64,300 for the new 2020 X6 sDrive40i, $66,600 for the X6 xDrive40i and $85,650 for the X6 M50i. Pricing does not include $995 Destination.

Exterior design

The dimensions of the 2020 third-generation X6 have grown slightly in overall length (+1.0 inches), wheelbase (+1.6 inches) and width (+0.6 inches). While height has been reduced by 0.7 inches for improved aerodynamics and a lower center of gravity improving vehicle agility.

The new X6 also serves as the premiere for the optional illuminated BMW kidney grille. The illumination can either be activated by unlocking and locking the vehicle or turned on and off manually. The illuminated grille is part of the daytime running light feature and can remain on while the vehicle is in motion.

The large, single-piece BMW kidney grille with active air slats is flanked by slim, trapezoidal Adaptive Full LED headlights. The large openings of the bumper and sharp-creased lines impart a more aggressive appearance to the new X6. Standard 20-inch alloy wheels fill the openings of the X6’s pronounced fenders and can be upgraded even further with 21-inch and 22-inch staggered wheels and performance tires to take advantage of the vehicle’s increased handling capabilities. The roofline flows into a double-bubble design towards the rear, ending in subtle, twin spoilers above the rear hatch glass. The wide rear fender arches blend into the upswept rear hatch design, forming an additional, functional split rear spoiler to improve aerodynamics. Very slim L-shaped LED taillights adorn the top of the rear hatch, high above the exhaust surrounds which are integrated into the sculptured lower rear diffuser panel.

The new design elements, from front-to-rear, complete the powerful and capable vehicle aura which owners have come to value from BMW’s Sports Activity Coupe vehicles.

The 2020 X6 sDrive40i and X6 xDrive40i are available in a choice of either standard xLine or optional M Sport appearance levels. xLine exterior trim such as kidney grille bars, air intakes, grille sides, Air Breather edging and tail pipe surrounds are finished in Pearl-Effect Chrome.  The front under-guard protection panel is finished in body color while the rear diffuser panel is Matte Black.

Selecting the M Sport Package changes the exterior trim to a High-Gloss Black Shadowline finish while the X6 M50i features a BMW kidney grille, exterior mirror caps, model badge and exhaust tailpipes are painted in Cerium Grey. The calipers of the M Sport brakes (standard on the X6 M50i) are finished in blue.

Interior design

The interior arrangement of the 2020 BMW X6 has been refocused on the driver while at the same time offering impeccable quality and finish from all surfaces to transport the driver and passengers in glove-like comfort.

Vernasca Leather, Sport seats and a Sensatec covered dashboard are standard on all X6 models. Multi-function seats are standard on the X6 M50i and optional on the 40i models. Extended Merino Leather, BMW Individual Full Merino Leather and a leather dashboard are all available as upgrades to suit every level of desired luxury.

Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes automatic climate control, while a four-zone system is optional. Another innovation is the newly developed panoramic glass roof whose glass surface area is 83 percent larger than on the outgoing model. The optional Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, meanwhile, brings a particularly exclusive ambience to the interior of the new BMW X6 after dark. More than 15,000 graphic points in the glass roof are illuminated and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky. Six different colors are available for the illumination of the Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge. The BMW X6 comes standard with ambient lighting, which includes the Welcome Light Carpet. This feature illuminates the approach to the doors when they are unlocked or opened, enhancing comfort when getting in and out of the car. New BMW X6 can also be equipped with optional thermoelectric heated and cooled cup holders, which keep drink containers cool or warm, as desired.

The new BMW X6 can be specified with glass applications for selected controls, adding unique visual and haptic experience to the interior.  The glass applications are available for the transmission selector lever, the iDrive Controller, the start/stop button and the audio volume knob. The optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System includes a seven-channel amplifier with a 1,500-watt output and 20 speakers to generate an impressive 3D audio experience for all passengers. The wireless charging option allows compatible mobile devices to be charged wirelessly in the tray positioned ahead of the cup holders. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40:20:40 combination to increase the cargo space from 27.4 to 59.6 cubic feet.

Paints finishes and interior trim

The new 2020 BMW X6 is offered in two standard, non-metallic paint colors, eight metallic paint finishes and two BMW Individual metallic paint finishes.

Standard, non-metallic paint finishes include Alpine White and Jet Black (on X6 40i models only). Optional (no-cost options on the X6 M50i) metallic paint finishes include Carbon Black Metallic (requires M Sport Package on X6 40i models), Black Sapphire Metallic, Dark Graphite Metallic (X6 40i models only), Mineral White Metallic, Flamenco Red Metallic, Arctic Grey Metallic, Manhattan Green Metallic, Riverside Blue Metallic (requires M Sport Package on X6 40i models). Optional BMW Individual paint finishes are Tanzanite Blue II Metallic and Ametrin Metallic.

Standard, interior Vernasca leather trim is offered in five color combinations; Black, Coffee, Tacora Red, Ivory White and Black with contrast Brown stitching (requires M Sport on X6 40i models).

Optional Extended Merino leather trim is available in four color combinations; Black, Coffee, Ivory White and Ivory White/Blue bi-color.

Optional BMW Individual Full Merino leather interiors are offered in four color combinations: Black, Coffee, Ivory White and Ivory White/Night Blue bi-color.

BMW 6-cylinder power and performance

The BMW X6 sDrive40i and xDrive40i models are powered by the latest iteration of BMW’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine. The new engine produces 335 hp between 5,500 – 6,500 rpm, an increase of 33 hp over the previous model and 330 lb-ft of torque between 1,500 – 5,200 rpm, an increase of 35 lb-ft of torque.

The new 6-cylinder engine features an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, a single twin-scroll turbocharger with quicker response and direct injection technology working at an increased maximum pressure of 350 bar. A housing with improved flow characteristics and turbines with reduced masses both help the turbocharging system to ensure rapid build-up of pressure, and the charge air cooler has been incorporated into the intake system. The latest version of the VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing system makes the sort of swift, high-precision adjustments that facilitate instantaneous power delivery and improve engine efficiency. The exhaust manifold embedded in the cylinder head cooling jacket, the new oil module with integral heat exchanger and the split-cooling valve delivering on-demand control

of the cooling system all serve to optimize the engine’s temperature management. Efficiency is given a further boost by the low-friction belt drive and the reduced weight of both the crankshaft and oil pump.

This allows the rear-wheel drive X6 sDrive40i to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, 0.8 seconds faster than the outgoing model while the X6 xDrive40 reaches 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the model it is replacing. Both vehicles feature an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph when equipped with all-season tires and 155 mph when equipped with performance tires.

BMW M Performance V8

The X6 M50i is powered by a new and immensely potent version of BMW’s 4.4-liter eight-cylinder TwinPower turbocharged engine. This updated engine features two, twin-scroll turbochargers with air-to-water intercooling, High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. This combination delivers 523 hp between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 – 4,600 rpm - an increase of 78 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque over the previous model’s output.

A new aluminium alloy has been used to increase the strength of the engine block. The wire-arc sprayed iron coating for the cylinder walls serves to reduce frictional losses. Reinforced, Grafal-coated pistons and optimized piston rings are designed to endure the stress on the crank drive that comes with the extra output and torque. To enhance engine smoothness, torsional vibration is minimized with the help of a viscous damper on the crankshaft.

The X6 M50i comes standard with an M Sport exhaust system allowing for the tuned, selectable exhaust note to be adjusted by the driver with the press of a button. The M Sport exhaust is also available on the 6-cylinder X6 models when the M Sport Package is selected.

The BMW X6 M50i accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, 0.5 seconds quicker than the outgoing X6 model. Top speeds are electronically limited to 130 mph when the vehicle is equipped with all-season tires and 155 mph when equipped with summer performance tires.

Eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive

The eight-speed Sport Steptronic transmission’s new control electronics help to increase the powertrain’s overall performance and efficiency. Intelligent connectivity enables the Sport automatic transmission to adapt its shift strategy according to the route and driving situation by working with the navigation system and if equipped, combining this data with information from the Active Cruise Control system’s radar sensor. This makes it possible for the transmission to shift proactively instead of reactively insuring that the vehicle is always in the correct gear for the upcoming road conditions.

The BMW xDrive system in the X6 xDrive40i and X6 M50i works to maximize traction, agility and directional stability. In dynamic driving situations, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system has a rear-wheel bias, sending drive power exclusively to the rear wheels, when added front traction is not required. The X6’s traction capabilities are aided by the electronically controlled rear M Sport differential, which is standard on the X6 M50i and optional on the X6 xDrive40i. It optimizes the transfer of power between the left and right rear wheels allowing the X6 to power out of corners with greater speed. The M Sport differential is also part of the optional Off-Road Package (X6 xDrive40i) and optimizes traction on roads where grip levels vary between the right and left rear wheels by preventing a wheel with insufficient grip from spinning.

Chassis, Suspension and Steering

A double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension designs give the new BMW X6 the tools to deliver agile yet comfortable road handling plus enhanced traction off the beaten track. The X6 Sports Activity Coupe comes as standard with Dynamic Damper Control, an electronically-controlled system which improves both handling and ride comfort both on and off-road. The driver can use the Driving Experience Control switch to select either of two damper settings placing the emphasis on a sporting or comfort-biased driving experience.

The optional Dynamic Handling Package with active roll stabilization and Integral Active Steering enhances the new X6’s handling with exceptionally agile and dynamic driving qualities. The Active Roll Stabilization system works using electric swivel motors and enables swift and precise compensation for body roll when powering through twists and turns. Not only does this improve agility and directional stability when entering corners, it helps optimize traction when accelerating out of the corners as well. The Active Roll Stabilization system on the new BMW X6 also increases straight-line comfort by actively countering the vibrations triggered by bumps on one side of the road.

The electromechanically operated Integral Active Steering is also available as an individual option. By turning the rear wheels in either the same direction as or the opposite direction of the front wheels, depending on the road speed, it lends itself to more nimble cornering and effortless lane changes. Integral Active Steering makes turning into and out of tight parking spots much easier, while also increasing directional stability when overtaking at motorway speeds.

The new BMW X6 can be equipped with an optional two-axle air suspension including automatic self-levelling. The suspension’s air supply is controlled individually for each wheel using an electrically driven compressor with pressure reservoir, making it possible to balance out an unevenly loaded car. Thanks to the linkup with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension’s sensors can also be factored into braking modulation. The X6’s ride height can be changed at the touch of a button and the driver can choose from five different modes. The driver is also able to adjust the body’s ground clearance for off-road driving to a maximum of 1.6 inches above the standard setting. Another button lowers the car by 1.6-inches below the default height in preparation for loading or unloading items. The height of the X6 above the ground can therefore be varied through up to 3.2-inches, making it significantly easier to get in and out of the car and to load and unload items from the cargo area.

The new BMW X6 xDrive40i is offered with an optional Off-Road Package. This package includes two-axle air suspension and the electronically controlled M Sport rear differential. Included in the package are four off-road drive modes specially tuned for driving over snow, sand, gravel or rocks. At the press of a button, drivers can activate the ideal settings for the vehicle’s ride height, the xDrive system, the transmission control and the DSC system’s intervention. Accelerator pedal response adapts to the driving mode selected.

Wheels, Tires and Brakes

All models of the 2020 BMW X6 come standard with 9.0 x 20-inch light-alloy wheels with 275/45R20 all-season run-flat tires for those desiring improved all-weather and multi-surface traction.

X6 sDrive40i and xDrive40i models offer a wide selection of optional wheel and tire upgrades including; 21-inch wheels with performance run-flat tires and 22-inch wheels with performance non run-flat tires.

The X6 M50i owners have the choice of upgrading their vehicles with optional 21-inch wheels with either performance run-flat or non-run-flat tires or 22-inch wheels with performance non-run-flat tires.

A space-saver spare can be selected to complement the selection of wheels with non-run-flat tires.

The X6 M50i also comes equipped with standard M Sport brakes which are optional on the X6 sDrive40i and xDrive40i.

Back-Up Assistant: Unique, high-precision guidance in tight spaces

Back-Up Assistant, part of the optional Parking Assistance Package, offers an unmatched level of assistance when leaving a parking space or maneuvering in a confined area. The Back-Up Assistant takes over steering to maneuver the vehicle mirroring the path most recently used in the forward direction. This system makes reversing for a distance of up to 50 yards an effortless task in the new 2020 BMW X6. All the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brakes and monitor the surrounding area. The system is initiated by pressing a button when the vehicle is stationary and the gear selector is in the “P” position. The steering movements made during the vehicle’s last forward maneuver are stored by the system and retained. This means the Back-Up Assistant can be used to maneuver the new BMW X6 backwards out of a parking position that it drove into forwards the previous day.

The driver enjoys ideal all-round visibility, thanks to both the standard rear-view camera and the optional Top View, Panorama View and 3D View which are part of Parking Assistant Plus, which create a 360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings in the Center Display. In addition, drivers can use the Remote 3D View feature, part of the BMW ConnectedDrive App, to access a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and surroundings on a smartphone no matter where they are at that moment.

Driver Assistance Systems

The 2020 BMW X6 is available with a wide variety of standard and optional driver assistance systems. The systems really come into their own when driving longer distances by relieving the strain on the driver in monotonous situations, such as traffic jams or slow-moving traffic. They enhance comfort and safety both in urban traffic and on longer trips by providing targeted assistance in complex traffic situations. The driver assistance systems process camera images as well as the data gathered by ultrasonic and radar sensors to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, to warn of potential hazards and to minimise the risk of an accident with corrective braking or steering inputs.

The standard Active Driving Assistant on the new BMW X6 includes Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Frontal Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Collision Mitigation (which now also alerts the driver if cyclists are detected) Cross Traffic Alert Rear, and Speed Limit Information.

The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package offers comprehensive assistance for comfortable and safe driving. This package includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. It can be used at speeds up to 130 mph and maintains the desired speed while taking not only the traffic situation into account, but also the selected distance to vehicles in front. If required, the system is able to brake the car to a stop then pull away again automatically after being stationary for up to 30 seconds, meaning greater comfort in stop-start traffic. Camera images and data from a front radar system are used for distance control.

Another component of the Driving Assistance Professional Package is the Lane Keeping Assistant with Active Side Collision Protection. This system is designed to help the driver guide the vehicle back onto the correct path with an active turn of the steering wheel. Besides emitting visual warning signals and causing the steering wheel to vibrate, active side collision protection also uses active steering intervention to help avoid a collision. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the 2020 BMW X6 combines a new display and control concept and the ultimate in connectivity to create a superb all-round package. The latest-generation of the iDrive is composed of a high-resolution digital 12.3” instrument cluster display behind the steering wheel and a 12.3” center display. The system offers many hardware upgrades including new haptic controls for the iDrive controller, an advanced tablet-like touch interface, stunning visualizations, and the largest displays in BMW’s vehicle lineup.

This latest system blends the strengths of previous iDrive concepts with the modern ways in which people expect to interface with their popular electronic devices. The multi-modal approach of the iDrive touch controller, large touchscreen center display, cloud based voice control, and gesture control allow users to interact in the way of their choosing.  

The seventh generation of iDrive, which runs the latest BMW Operating System, has a cutting-edge, fully digital design and is geared to the driver’s needs by allowing him or her to customize the system to his or her own preference with customizable widgets of information. This new level of personalization is then stored in the BMW Cloud and can follow the customer to other BMW vehicles. Information from categories such as driving, entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and the vehicle info itself, can be selected in nearly any combination in any of four layouts on the Center Display. Multiple pages can be created and easily accessed with a simple swipe across the screen with your finger.

To maximize the capabilities of the large 12.3” digital instrument cluster, the traditional gauges have been finessed into an all-new design pushing the speedometer and tachometer gauges to the outer edges of the display as geometric bands. This new design opens space in the middle for routing and navigation. Information from the center display can also be shown within the tachometer. Additionally, your driving mode will determine your visual display style. 

Other elements of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional are the Navigation Professional system, two USB-C ports, plus Bluetooth interfaces. The driver can be automatically detected and personal settings activated either using the traditional vehicle key or by downloading the driver’s personal settings the BMW Cloud.

Drivers can enjoy the full benefits of the car’s intelligent connectivity capabilities through vehicle apps such as news, weather, office and online search. Other capabilities include Intelligent Emergency Call – which automatically summons swift assistance in an emergency – and regular updates for the navigation system’s maps.

BMW Connected: digital services for individual mobility.

BMW Connected is the companion app for BMW drivers. Intelligent connectivity helps users to reach their destination easily and with minimal stress – and not only from within their car; BMW Connected is an all-embracing concept designed to seamlessly connect the driver and their smartphone with their vehicle.

At the heart of it all is the Open Mobility Cloud, which allows the app to connect the car with the customer’s digital devices. These could include the iPhone and Apple Watch, smartphones and smartwatches running the Android operating system, Alexa-compatible smart devices and Google Home. For instance, the BMW Connected app can import appointments and addresses from the customer’s calendar entries straight into the navigation system to begin route guidance. In the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, the innovative EfficientDynamics drive technology BMW eDrive and the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive are united for the first time, creating the world’s first plug-in hybrid Sports Activity Vehicle. The combination of a BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder combustion engine and a 95-horsepower electric motor provides typical BMW performance, with BMW xDrive further increasing the dynamics. At the same time, this powertrain is impressively efficient. It has an average fuel efficiency of approximately 62 mpg, which is unrivalled among vehicles in this class, with CO2 emissions of less than 90 grams per kilometer also setting new standards. Via the driving dynamics control switch, different drive modes can be selected. In the fully electric mode, which is free from local emissions, a maximum range of 19 miles is possible – at speeds of up to 75 mph. The BMW i8 is the world’s first plug-in hybrid 2+2 sports-car from BMW Group.  Itjoins BMW i’s growing lineup of visionary vehicles which are purpose built from the ground up as electric and hybrid electric and constructed primarily from lightweight carbon fiber. Exterior design: dynamic proportions, fluid lines, striking accents.
The design of the new BMW X6 body combines the robust presence of a BMW Sports Activity Vehicle with the hallmark sporting elegance of the brand’s Coupes to create an unmistakably athletic appearance. The long hood, long wheelbase, short front overhang and set-back passenger compartment are characteristic design features of a BMW. Its high window sill and large wheel arches highlight the Sports Activity Coupe’s ties to the BMW SAV family.

Dynamic proportions and flowing lines reflect its sporty, agile handling on the road. The muscular and robust aspects of the vehicle’s design point to its versatility and appetite for action off the beaten track. At the front of the vehicle, the X-shaped contour lines of the bumper, the matt-silver underbody protection, the particularly powerful design of the BMW kidney grille and the arrangement of the twin circular headlights along front LED foglights are the most prominent signature features of a BMW SAV. The large headlight units reach all the way to the BMW kidney grille and extend outwards well into the fenders. Sweeping chrome inserts and the prominently three-dimensional design of the lights underline the sophisticated character of the standard Xenon headlights. Optional Adaptive LED Headlights can be specified for the new BMW X6.

Among the other ingredients in the extroverted, athletic looks of the new BMW X6 are the clearly visible details designed to optimize the car’s aerodynamics. They include the air deflectors on the front wheel arches, the Air Curtains integrated into the outer air intakes of the front apron and the Air Breathers in the fenders, which team up to reduce turbulence in the front wheel arches.

The side view of the new BMW X6 is likewise defined by eye-catching lines and sharply-drawn contours. The wedge shape of the silhouette is accentuated by a model-specific interpretation of the double swage lines. Emerging from the front wheel arches, the first rises steadily up along the new BMW X6 to the rear door handles. A second swage line sets out on a lower path, extending in a dynamic sweep into the rear lights. The eye is therefore drawn immediately to both the strong presence of the new BMW X6, thanks not only to the coupe-style roofline but also a glasshouse whose light, intricate look contrasts with the powerful body.

At the rear, horizontal lines emphasize the width and solid stance of the new BMW X6, while the surface design in the area of the high-opening tailgate, a powerfully formed bumper and flat rear apron signal robust athleticism. The three-dimensional LED light strips of the two-section, L-shaped rear lights, meanwhile, create a striking night-time look. As with the front, a matt silver-colored underbody protection element completes the lower edge of the body.

Customers can choose from two non-metallic and nine metallic colors for the body paintwork of the new BMW X6, including the new-to-the-range Dark Olive and Flamenco Red Metallic. Available as an option for the new BMW X6 are aluminum running boards.

Interior: sporting elegance, modern luxury, advanced functionality.
Boasting generous levels of spaciousness, the high seating position typical of a BMW SAV and high-quality, beautifully finished materials, the interior of the new BMW X6 creates the perfect environment for a driving experience cloaked in an air of luxury. The three-dimensional design and horizontal structure of the layered surfaces underline the broad sweep of the instrument panel, which – along with the upper-arm trim panels – features a high-quality Softskin surface with black decorative stitching. The interior trim elements in Poplar Wood now sit atop a high-gloss black surface, which is bordered on its lower edge by an accent strip in Pearl Gloss Chrome. Interior trim strips in Brushed Aluminum, Fineline Oak Wood, Fineline Striped Wood and Fineline Pure Wood can also be specified as a no-cost option.

The ambient lighting designs included in the standard lighting package lend extra emphasis to the visual unity between the instrument panel and door panels. LED units arranged in a wrap-around contour line, as well as in other areas of the interior, create an alluring effect. Blue, white and orange light can be selected, either in monochrome or in six pre-stored combinations via the iDrive system.

The instrument cluster and the displays for the climate control and ventilation in the new BMW X6 all feature black-panel technology. The content, presentation and color of the screens in the standard Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster vary according to the mode selected by means of the Driving Dynamics Control switch. The freestanding, 10.2-inch flatscreen Control Display comes as part of the standard-fitted iDrive operating system.

The distinctive style of the new BMW X6’s interior is captured in the sports leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons and shift paddles, gearshift lever in sporty design and a rear seat bench whose two outer seats have a distinct individual seat character and which offers large storage compartments in the center armrest. Another model-specific equipment detail are the knee pads on the center console, which feature contrast stitching on their leather surface and an accent strip in Pearl Gloss Chrome.

xLine, M Sport and options: Tailoring the BMW X6 to individual tastes
An extensive selection of options, the new  xLine and M Sport all create additional scope for tailoring the new BMW X6 precisely to individual tastes in terms of luxury and dynamics.

Customers can choose from six colors for the standard Dakota leather trim, including the new variants Cognac and Coral Red. Seat heating for the driver and front passenger is standard, while heated rear seats are available in the Cold Weather Package. Driving pleasure and long-distance comfort can also be enhanced with features including the standard BMW Navigation System with touchpad Controller, the Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system and the new Rear Entertainment System. All model variants of the new BMW X6 feature standard 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Additional 19-inch as well as 20-inch light-alloys are also available.

Optimized functionality: variable-use load compartment, hands-free tailgate opening and closing.
The variability of the interior has also been raised another notch. The rear seat backrests can now be split/folded 40 : 20 : 40, allowing the capacity of the load compartment to be increased in stages from 20.5 cu.ft. to a maximum of 53.9 cu.ft. Numerous storage compartments, plus door pockets which can accommodate 1.5-liter bottles at the front and one-liter bottles in the rear, also contribute to impressive levels of functionality in everyday and touring use.

Power tailgate operation is also included for the new BMW X6. The tailgate can now be both opened and closed via remote control and from the driver’s seat at the touch of a button. Maximum convenience for loading and unloading the new BMW X6 is provided by the hands-free trunk opening and closing function, which comes as part of the Comfort Access feature (standard on X6 xDrive50i/optional on X6 sDrive35i and X6 xDrive35i). Sensors detect foot movements underneath the rear apron and send out signals which prompt the electric tailgate into action.

The tailgate comes with a standard Soft Close Automatic function, which is also available for the doors as an option. The new BMW X6 also comes standard with a power glass sunroof whose surface has the same width but is almost five inches longer than on the previous model.

xLine: lending the exterior and interior an exclusive aura.
Customers keen to experience the new BMW X6 beyond its standard form may well be attracted by the xLine which provides a particularly vivid showcase for the assured presence and exclusive aura of the exterior. In addition, the Interior Design Packages bring additional luxury to the interior.

The xLine helps give the new BMW X6 an unmistakably exclusive appearance with a host of details, some of which – in addition to their uniform Cerium Grey color scheme – also have a model-specific design. These include optical underbody protection elements in stainless steel for the front and rear apron, illuminated door sills and footplates in aluminum for the driver’s and front passenger’s door, kidney grille bars with a distinctive geometry, bespoke inserts and bars for the air intakes, distinctive trim for the Air Breathers on the fenders, the trim strip on the trailing edge of the tailgate, and the exterior mirror caps. Adding a unique flourish to the side view is the combination of exterior mirror bases and B- and C-pillar trim in high-gloss black, plus aluminum surrounds in Cerium Grey for the side windows and exterior mirror caps. Another exclusive feature of the xLine is the 20-inch light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design and bi-color finish with mixed-size tires.

The Interior Design Packages are available in a choice of two similarly stylish variants sporting different color schemes. This option centers around Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery with extended features, an equipment item that includes seat surfaces in the new Ivory White/Black or Cognac/Black bi-color variants. The particularly high-grade leather in Ivory White or Cognac is applied to the seats, center console, armrests and door panels. In addition, the upper-arm trim panels and instrument panel are both lined with black full leather which, like the black bolsters of the seat surfaces and backrests, are adorned with contrast stitching. Depending on the color selected for the leather upholstery, the vehicle’s exclusive interior ambience can be rounded off by any of the available trims. The Interior Design Packages also include a car key with buttons in Pearl Gloss Chrome.

Making the case for maximum dynamics: M Sport for the new BMW X6.
M Sport can also be ordered for all models of the new BMW X6. The dynamic character of the Sports Activity Coupe is accentuated by aerodynamically optimized body elements with large air intakes at the front end, strikingly contoured side skirts, a diffuser insert for the rear apron, as well as a bespoke BMW kidney grille design with bars in matte aluminum and high-gloss chrome exhaust tailpipe embellishers in the trapezoidal geometry that is standard on the X6 xDrive50i. The lower borders of the wheel arches along with the side skirts are painted in body color. M Sport also includes BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim, 19-inch or optional 20 inch M light-alloy wheels, as well as the option to upgrade to the specially tuned Adaptive M suspension.

As well as aluminum door sill strips bearing the M logo and the anthracite-colored BMW Individual roof liner, features including electrically adjustable sports seats for the driver and front passenger, interior trim in Aluminum Hexagon, an M leather steering wheel and an M driver’s footrest all combine to bring an intense aura of sporty driving to the interior of the new BMW X6. Multi-award winning 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six powers new
X6 sDrive35i and X6 xDrive35i
The new X6 sDrive35i and X6 xDrive35i will be powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-6 engine (internally known as N55). It develops maximum output of 300 hp at 5,800 rpm, with peak torque of 300 lb-ft available all the way from 1,200–5,000 rpm. The N55 engine was the first BMW inline-6 to combine turbocharging, High Precision direct fuel injection, and Valvetronic variable intake technology. It features a single, mid-sized turbocharger with a “twin-scroll” housing to boost performance and minimize response lag.  Using Valvetronic for the first time on a turbocharged inline-6 allows the engine to “inhale” air more efficiently for combustion with virtually no delay and with reduced pumping losses. The X6 sDrive35i and X6 xDrive35i will accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in six seconds flat. That is 0.3 seconds quicker than the previous generation X6 xDrive35i. Thanks to a lower curb weight and other EfficientDynamics measures it is also expected to be more efficient (EPA mileage estimates will be available closer to launch).

BMW X6 xDrive 50i features the latest TwinPower Turbo V8
The 4.4-liter V-8 engine (N63) that powers the outgoing X6 xDrive50i receives an upgrade from its successor. The unique “reverse-flow” engine, whose two turbochargers are positioned in the V-area between the cylinder banks is well known for producing an instantaneous and sustained wave of power, making it a delight for the enthusiast driver. This new version of the engine adds BMW’s Valvetronic variable valve timing to the list of specifications. As a result, the new version of the engine (N63TÜ) develops a maximum 445 hp between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm (a 45 hp increase), and makes peak torque of 480 lb-ft between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm (a 30 lb-ft increase). This newest TwinPower Turbo V8 powers the new X6 xDrive50i from 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, 0.4 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Thanks to the addition of Valvetronic, lower curb weight and other EfficientDynamics measures, the new X6 xDrive50i will also see significant efficiency gains (EPA mileage estimates will be available closer to launch).

BMW EfficientDynamics: eight-speed automatic and ECO PRO mode with new functions.

All models in the new BMW X6 lineup feature a standard eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission, whose high internal efficiency, precision and short shift times help to improve both efficiency and responsiveness. The transmission offers a “launch control” function, a high-precision traction control system which allows engine power to be translated as efficiently as possible into road speed when accelerating from a standstill.

The new BMW X6 includes an ECO PRO mode as part of the standard Driving Dynamics Control. In ECO PRO mode, the engine management, accelerator response and transmission characteristics are systematically tailored to support a particularly fuel-efficient, low-rpm driving style. At the same time, ECO PRO mode also programs electrically powered functions like the climate control, heated seats and heated exterior mirrors for extra-efficient energy management. In ECO PRO mode, a coasting function periodically decouples the engine from the rest of the powertrain whenever the driver eases off the accelerator at speeds between 30 – 100 mph without then applying the brakes. This allows the new BMW X6 to coast without engine braking, for maximized fuel efficiency. In conjunction with the standard Navigation system, highly fuel-efficient ECO PRO navigation routes can be selected. When the navigation system is activated, the Proactive Driving Assistant function also tells the driver exactly when to ease off the accelerator when approaching corners or a speed-restricted section of road, in order to save fuel.

Along with the additional ECO PRO mode functions, the new BMW X6 also comes with many other BMW EfficientDynamics features. These include Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start/Stop, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, and a variety of weight- and drag-reducing features. Along with other measures, use of ultra-high-tensile steels in the body structure, thermoplastics in the front fenders, aluminum in the hood and magnesium in the instrument panel support all help to reduce curb weight. Intelligent lightweight design also means that the increase in standard equipment compared with the previous model does not translate to increased vehicle weight. The curb weights for the new X6 xDrive35i and X6 xDrive50i are both reduced compared to their direct predecessors.

The BMW X6 also offers best-in-class aerodynamic design. Air Curtains, the Air Breather system, air deflectors on the front wheel arches and a range of other detail improvements reduce the drag coefficient (Cd).

The standard BMW Navigation System allows highly fuel-efficient ECO PRO navigation routes to be selected. When the route guidance function is activated, the Proactive Driving Assistant also tells the driver exactly when best to ease off the accelerator – in the interests of saving fuel – when approaching corners or a speed-restricted section of road, for example.

BMW xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control: intelligent all-wheel drive and torque vectoring.
By constantly shifting drive between the front and rear wheels as required, BMW xDrive provides a very special take on the driving pleasure for which BMW is renowned. In its latest version, the transfer case of the intelligent all-wheel drive displays enhanced efficiency and a three pound reduction in weight. The link-up between the all-wheel-drive system and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) even allows the drive split to be adjusted in advance. As a result, all-wheel-drive performance is on hand even before slip can occur – not only on snow and loose gravel, but also through dynamically taken corners – and the engine’s full power is transmitted to the road.

Dynamic Performance Control allows the distribution of power to be even more finely adjusted. This electronically controlled system is integrated into the rear differential. Working in tandem with xDrive, it creates an intoxicating blend of handling dynamics and directional stability. Dynamic Performance Control, which is available as part of the optional Dynamic Handling Package, seamlessly varies the power split between the rear wheels (torque vectoring). This results in further noticeable improvements in steering response and road-holding at all speeds. Dynamic Performance Control maintains its stabilizing action if the driver lifts off the accelerator through a corner.

The all-wheel driving experience is further enriched by the new xDrive status display in the Control Display, particularly when driving off the beaten path. Boasting 3D graphics, this feature shows real-time information on body roll and pitch. A compass display is additionally shown in the instrument cluster. Also contributing to safe and self-assured progress on challenging terrain is the Hill Descent Control (HDC) system, which is standard on xDrive models.

The ongoing evolution of the Sports Activity Coupe concept has enabled the new BMW X6 to offer an even broader variety of qualities than its predecessor. Enhanced dynamics go hand in hand with improved efficiency, the vehicle’s sporting prowess and versatility have been optimized, as have ride comfort and safety. The cabin ambience has gained in luxury and interior functionality which has also been taken to the next level. Much of the credit for this eye-catching progress goes to the targeted advances in chassis technology made with the new BMW X6 and a body structure rooted in the principle of intelligent lightweight design.

The combination of a double-wishbone, double-pivot front suspension and the proven integral rear suspension, patented by BMW, underpins a blend of sporting agility and impressive ride comfort that none of its rivals can match. Further improvements have been made in various areas, including the car’s directional stability, the friction coefficient of the wheel bearings, tire noise and weight, which has been reduced by 4.4 pounds on the front suspension alone.

The new BMW X6 is fitted with Electric Power Steering including Servotronic speed-sensitive power assistance. Meanwhile, Active Steering – available as an option – also adjusts the steering ratio to the car’s current speed. This reduces the steering effort required for low-speed maneuvering, for example, and provides precise responses and clear feedback at high speeds. The electromechanical parking brake with Auto Hold function is again standard on the new BMW X6.

Chassis packages tailor sporting responses and comfort levels to customer requirements.
Individual requirements in terms of ride comfort and sports performance can be fulfilled with the chassis options and packages available for the new BMW X6. Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension with automatic self-leveling for the rear suspension is available as a stand-alone option. The electronic control system adapts the car’s damping to the road conditions and driving situation at hand. Adaptive M suspension, which is an optional upgrade with M Sport, offers the same functionality. Activating SPORT or SPORT+ mode delivers particularly firm spring and damper characteristics.

The elements of the Dynamic Handling Package intervene noticeably to imbue the BMW X6 with particularly sporty handling characteristics through corners. Here, Dynamic Performance Control and the active roll stabilization system optimize directional stability and reduce body roll. In addition, Dynamic Damper Control and rear air suspension are also included with the package.

Intelligent lightweight design: increased body rigidity, reduced weight.
The success of the intelligent lightweight design techniques applied in the development of the body structure for the new BMW X6 can be seen in the vehicle’s fuel consumption as well as its agility in the hands of a sporty driver. Measures such as the considered use of high and ultra-high tensile as well as hot-stamped steels lend the body of the X6 improved torsional stiffness compared with its predecessor and increase the strength of the safety passenger cell.

Ultra-high-strength steels along with the use of thermoplastics in the fenders, aluminum in the hood and magnesium in the instrument panel support, all help to reduce the weight of the X6. Overall, the significantly expanded standard specification of the new car compared to its predecessor has not, therefore, led to higher numbers on the scales. In actual fact, given identical equipment levels the new BMW X6 would actually be up to 35 – 55 pounds lighter, depending on the model. Moreover, this intelligent mix of materials helps to achieve a virtually 50:50 weight distribution.

The new BMW X6 also sets new standards when it comes to aerodynamics. Air Curtains, Air Breathers, optimized airflow over the rear, air deflectors on the front wheel arches, and an array of other details allow the car’s drag coefficient to drop as far as Cd 0.34.

The new BMW X6 is equipped to offer hallmark BMW driving pleasure. A prime example is its extensive range of BMW ConnectedDrive features. The Sports Activity Coupe’s innovative driver assistance systems and mobility services improve active safety and comfort and allow even more effortless and convenient use of infotainment services. The number and variety of such functions offered by the new BMW X6 to support intelligent connectivity between driver, vehicle and the outside world is unique in this class.

The BMW ConnectedDrive systems fall into two categories. The driver assistance systems provide important information about the current driving situation which, among other things helps to improve the driver’s focus on the road and traffic. They also assist drivers in a variety of driving situations. The second category of systems comprises services and Apps, which offer a host of different functions. Via a mobile phone or internet connection, these functions supply information and entertainment services to support a driving experience which is safe, comfortable and engaging. The standard iDrive system with Control Display, and favorites buttons provides intuitive, low-distraction operation of these functions. It includes a 10.2-inch central dashboard display and a center console-mounted touchpad Controller with touch-sensitive interface for inputting numbers and characters.

Active Driving Assistant available on the new BMW X6.
In addition to cruise control with braking function, the new BMW X6 also is available with Active Driving Assistant. This camera-based driver assistance system includes Lane Departure Warning, which can be used whenever the vehicle is travelling at a speed of more than 44 mph. Lane Departure Warning alerts drivers with a visible signal in the instrument cluster and a vibration of the steering wheel if they have inadvertently drifted out of their lane. The option, which is included in the Driver Assistance Plus Package, also includes a Pedestrian and Collision Warning system with Braking function.

This system detects preceding vehicles and, at speeds up to 37 mph, it also detects pedestrians who are on a potential collision course with the vehicle. Visual and audible warnings are given if a hazardous situation is detected, and at the same time the brake system is primed in order to reduce stopping distance. At speeds of up to 37mph, moderate “hazard” braking is also actuated, to reduce vehicle speed and to alert the driver to the critical situation.

ACC Stop & GO + Active Driving Assistant.
The optional ACC Stop & GO + Active Driving Assistant option provides even more extensive support. In addition to the Driving Assistant functions, this system also includes the Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function which primarily enhances comfort and safety in slow-moving and stop-go traffic. The task of maintaining a safe following distance can be delegated to this system at any speed up to 130 mph. A combination of a front camera and full-range radar sensors registers preceding traffic and stationary vehicles. If the driver fails to react to a warning of an imminent frontal collision, Driving Assistant Plus automatically brakes the vehicle, if necessary using maximum deceleration.

Also included in the Driver Assistance Plus Package is Speed Limit Info, which shows the speed limit for a particular road in the instrument cluster, while the Active Blind Spot Detection system, assesses the traffic situation on multi-lane roads in order to prevent critical situations when pulling out to overtake. When performing an intentional lane change at any speed upwards of (12 mph), the driver is warned by a visual signal and a steering wheel vibration if another vehicle is hidden in the critical area behind or alongside the new BMW X6.

Parallel parking made easy with the Parking Assistant.
Additional convenience when driving in town is provided by the optional Parking Assistant. This system helps the driver identify and drive into parallel parking spaces. When the parking button is pressed, the new BMW X6 parks itself automatically in the selected parking space. While performing this precisely controlled maneuver, the system provides the necessary steering input, while the driver operates the accelerator and brake pedal, and selects the correct gear.

Further aids to easy maneuvering include the standard Park Distance Control (PDC), with sensors at the front and rear of the vehicle the optional rear-view camera and optional Surround View system, which shows a 360-degree view of the vehicle and its surroundings in the Control Display, while the Panorama View front and rear monitoring function provides a better view of cross-traffic when emerging from an exit with poor visibility. The image provided by the cameras is shown in the iDrive display, while an audible warning signal indicates objects approaching the car from the side.

At-a-glance monitoring: multifunction display, BMW Head-Up Display, LED fog lights, BMW Selective Beam, BMW Night Vision.
The new BMW X6 includes a freely programmable Dynamic Digital Instrument Cluster. This 10.2-inch display changes its appearance depending on the selected Driving Dynamics Control mode. Clear differentiation between the various modes is provided by different-style graphics and different color schemes. In COMFORT mode, the display shows a classic array of four circular dials. In ECO PRO mode, the rev counter is transformed into an EfficientDynamics display. In SPORT mode, the speed is displayed digitally in the form of a large figure in the center of the speedometer, while the currently engaged gear is displayed in the center of the rev counter.

For the new BMW X6, the BMW Head-Up Display – which projects important information in full color onto the windshield – now includes additional content. When required, telephone contact lists and entertainment information can also be projected into the driver’s direct field of view. As well as vehicle speed, 3D graphics also show Check Control messages, navigation information – including lane recommendations, speed limits – and other information supplied by the driver assistance systems.

Driving enjoyment and safety at night can be enhanced by the optional Adaptive LED Headlights with automatic high beams. Also available for the new BMW X6 is the BMW Night Vision system, which now detects not only pedestrians but animals as well. The system relays a real-time video image to the Control Display showing people, larger animals and other heat-radiating objects, even if they are outside the headlight beam. A warning is provided if there is a risk of collision.

BMW Assist eCall and TeleService.
The new BMW X6 is equipped with the BMW Assist eCall system and TeleService including a 10 year subscription. The system relays important information to the BMW Call Center in the event of a crash, such as vehicle position (accurate to within feet), chassis number, vehicle model, vehicle color and data from the onboard sensors. The system also detects how many people are travelling in the vehicle, which airbags were activated and the intensity of the impact. Thanks to the company’s ground-breaking Urgency Algorithm, the system also uses data from the vehicle’s crash sensors to assess and transmit the likelihood of severe injury. This makes it easier to supply first responders with critical information in a timely fashion.

TeleService monitors its service needs, such as engine oil and brakes. When necessary, the vehicle transmits its status and service needs to BMW. The customer’s BMW Service Center can access the vehicle-related data and a BMW Service Advisor can then call the customer to schedule a convenient appointment.

Perfect connectivity with BMW ConnectedDrive Services available at all times.
BMW Assist in the new X6 includes Remote Services such as vehicle unlocking and stolen vehicle recovery. Also available is the optional Concierge Service – a telephone information service which BMW ConnectedDrive customers can use, say, to make hotel or restaurant reservations, look for addresses and telephone numbers or check opening times.  BMW Online is also available.

BMW ConnectedDrive Office functions, supported either by the customer’s smartphone or by the built-in SIM card, allow the Sports Activity Coupe to be used as a mobile office. Emails, appointments, contact lists, calendar entries and notes can be shown on the Control Display. A dictating function converts spoken notes into text, which can be stored and forwarded as an SMS or email message.

BMW Apps is standard in the new X6. Among other things these apps support web radio functions, social media functions such Facebook and Twitter, and the range of online entertainment features provided by BMW ConnectedDrive. This flexible apps strategy makes it possible to incorporate not just proprietary BMW Group apps but also BMW Apps-ready applications from other providers such as Pandora, Audible, Stitcher, Rhapsody, TuneIn and Glympse.

BMW will make available fifty Edition copies of the 2013 BMW X6 xDrive35i, with an MSRP of $81,695,  and fifty Edition copies of the 2013 BMW X6 xDrive50i with an MSRP of $92,895 including Destination & Handling. The BMW 6 Series Coupe Frozen Silver Edition is even more exclusive with a total of 55 copies produced in two trims – the BMW 650i Coupe with an MSRP of $99,295 and the BMW 650i xDrive Coupe priced at $102,695, including Destination & Handling. The 2013 BMW Individual X6 Performance Edition will be produced in September and October for deliveries to begin mid-December 2012, and the 2013 BMW 6 Series Coupe Frozen Silver Edition will be produced at year’s end 2012, with deliveries to begin mid-January 2013.

BMW Individual X6 Performance Edition

The 2013 BMW Individual X6 Performance Edition will be outfitted with an M Performance Package engine upgrade which provides increases of +15 hp, +30 lb-ft of torque in the X6 xDrive35i and +40 hp, +30 lb-ft of torque in the X6 xDrive50i. It features BMW Individual Pearl Silver metallic paint, 20-inch Y-Spoke wheels, and black chrome exhaust tips.  The interior features seats and door panels upholstered in Black Alcantara and Leather with Sakhir Orange contrast stitching.   Additional contrast stitching and piping can be found on the dashboard and floor mats.  The dashboard and center console are finished with BMW Individual Carbon Leather Wrapped Trim.

Striking design features front and rear, adaptive LED headlamps a new option.

The new X6 has been modified with precision appearance characteristics that define its athletic style while continuing with the unique trend setting silhouette that created a whole new segment. The standard foglights are now set in matt finish surrounds in the upper area of the outer air inlets. Their higher and more lateral position emphasizes the width of the vehicle. The striking three-dimensional modeling of the frame and newly designed bars, angled in the lower section, make the BMW kidney grille stand out conspicuously in the vehicle’s front end. The angle of the grille bars is flush with the bottom of the headlamp units, thereby creating an additional horizontal line which likewise highlights the wide track and road-holding prowess of the new BMW X6.

As an alternative to the standard Xenon headlights, the new BMW X6 is the first vehicle in its segment to be available with adaptive LED headlights. Their bright white light ensures optimum visibility, while their high-quality appearance represents a new interpretation of the brand's hallmark twin circular headlamps. The three-dimensionally shaped luminous rings of the adaptive LED headlights are strikingly leveled off both at the top and bottom and are overlaid at the upper edge by an LED-fed accent light. The light sources for low and high beam light are LED units positioned on a horizontal bar at its center, feeding their light into the reflectors in front. With its newly designed taillights with LED technology, the powerfully shaped rear of the new BMW X6 also features more intense styling. The taillights are now two LED-fed light banks which create the brand's hallmark night design as a harmoniously glowing light mass. The fact that they are horizontally aligned and stretch far out to the sides emphasizes both the width of the vehicle and the flowing transition between the rear quarter and the tail-end.

The program of external paint finishes for the new BMW X6 consists of two non-metallic and nine metallic colors, including Marrakesh Brown metallic, Orion Silver metallic and Midnight Blue metallic. Power Kit and High Performance Exhaust System

Perhaps the most exciting new development is the announcement of a BMW Performance Power Kit for 2008-2010 X6 xDrive35i and X6 xDrive50i models. The Power Kit for the X6 features special software developed and tested in-house by BMW powertrain engineers, and enhances the driving experience by providing higher engine output and responsiveness without increasing fuel consumption or exhaust emissions. The results are 320 horsepower (+20) and 332 lb-ft of torque (+32) for the X6 xDrive35i and 440 hp (+40) and 480 lb-ft of torque (+30) for the X6 xDrive50i. Each model reaches 60mph from a standstill 0.2-second quicker when equipped with the Power Kit (6.3 seconds for the X6 xDrive35i with Power Kit and 5.0 seconds for the X6 xDrive50i with Power Kit). 50-75mph passing acceleration times are reduced by about 0.5 seconds for each model.

BMW Performance is also developing a high-performance exhaust system for V8 and inline-6 powered variants of the X6, and will announce availability of the system this winter.

Aerodynamics

Directly from BMW’s state-of-the-art Munich wind tunnel comes the comprehensive new BMW Performance Aero Kit for the X6 Sports Activity Coupe (excluding X6 M and ActiveHybrid X6 models). The Aero Kit, which includes redesigned front and rear bumper covers, side skirts, and rear bumper insert, is specifically sculpted to reduce aerodynamic drag and lift at high speeds, improving stability while making a dramatic, stylish statement. Additionally, new specially-sculpted Rear Fins and Rear Deck Spoiler may be added to fully complement the aerodynamic signature of the X6.

Wheels

BMW Performance has created a stunning set of 21-inch light-alloy wheels for the X6 Sports Activity Coupe (all models including X6 M and ActiveHybrid X6). Measuring 10”x21” with 285/35/R21 tires up front and 11.5”x21” with 325/30/R21 tires at rear, the unique spoke design features a polished outer surface with unique inner contours which dramatically highlight the powerful, athletic character of the X6.

Steering Wheel

Last but not least, BMW Performance has made available a unique multifunction steering wheel for X6 models (excluding X6 M and vehicles with Lane Departure Warning). This direct replacement for the standard X6 steering wheel features a thick, racing-style, flattened lower rim and is fully covered in hand-stitched Alcantara material. At $89,725 the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 arrives just in time for the holidays.

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, November 18, 2009…  The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 will arrive in US showrooms right on the heels of its North American debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.  The one-of-a-kind Sports Active Coupe featuring two-model hybrid technology will be available beginning December 5, 2009 with a base MSRP of $89,725, including destination and handling.

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, 13 August 2009, 6pm Eastern... BMW announced today the production version of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 will make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in September and will reach US BMW Centers in fourth-quarter 2009. ActiveHybrid technology provides a glimpse into the future, achieving outstanding driving dynamics with equally impressive efficiency. It melds both of these qualities to offer a truly unique driving experience. The world's first Sports Activity Coupe with full hybrid drive capitalizes on the options offered by combining the combustion engine with electric motors to create a powertrain with new levels dynamic performance and efficiency.

BMW ActiveHybrid technology offers a significant increase in driving dynamics and at the same time reduces fuel consumption by approximately 20 percent versus a comparable vehicle powered by a combustion engine alone. The result is even greater driving pleasure combined with enhanced fuel economy and CO2 management providing the kind of progress to make the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 a genuine BMW in the hybrid market.

The overall drive system featured in the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 consists of a 400 hp twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine and two electric synchronous motors delivering 91 hp and 86 hp, respectively. Maximum system output is 480 hp, and peak torque reaches 575 lb-ft.

Precisely controlled interaction of the three power units optimizes the overall efficiency of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 at all speeds, with acceleration from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Top speed of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is limited electronically to 130 mph, with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle improved by roughly 20%, and a CO2 emission rating of 231 grams per kilometer. EPA ratings will be available closer to the market introduction.

BMW’s first full hybrid model is able to run exclusively on electric power – and that is entirely free of CO2 – up to a speed of 37 mph (60 km/h), with the combustion engine being activated automatically whenever required.

These performance figures are made possible by utilizing a two-mode active transmission. The ideal combination of the two power modes can be controlled for enhanced efficiency and dynamic performance in any driving condition. With the two electric motors, three planetary gearsets and four multi-plate clutches, drive power is transmitted through a 7-speed automatic transmission. As would be expected in a BMW, the driver can operate the transmission manually. BMW’s lauded xDrive all-wheel-drive system distributes the power between the front and rear axles.

The electric motors receive their energy from an NiMH high-performance battery pack positioned beneath the floor of the luggage compartment. This battery pack also feeds electric power to the vehicle’s on-board network. Luggage compartment capacity is therefore the same as on the original BMW X6. On brake application and/or on deceleration, kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and is stored in the battery pack. To provide this function either one or both of the electric motors act as a generator, feeding electric power generated back into the high-voltage battery.

Unique efficiency ensured by two-mode active transmission.
BMW ActiveHybrid technology has been developed specifically for use in a particularly dynamic vehicle and for a broad range of practical use. The big advantage, therefore, is optimization of drivetrain efficiency in all speed ranges and conditions.

The two-mode active transmission is based on an ECVT (electric continuously variable transmission) operating in two separate modes. One mode is for stop-and-go driving and low speeds, and the second is for driving at higher speeds.

From a stop and at low speeds, only one of the two electric motors is activated. As soon as the driver requires more power or increased speed, the second electric motor automatically starts the combustion engine. The second electric motor then serves as a generator to provide a supply of electric power to the vehicle systems. When driving steadily at a higher speed most of the power required is delivered by the combustion engine in a largely mechanical process. Here again, one of the two electric motors acts as a generator.

The mechanical components, including three planetary gearsets and the two electric motors, combine to provide for seven total effective gears. This configuration manages the power generated by the combustion engine and two electric motors in a way that maximizes driving versatility.

Twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine with High Precision Direct Injection.
The combustion engine is the innovative reverse-flow V8 first featured in the BMW X6 xDrive50i. The world’s first V8 gasoline engine with two turbochargers in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders develops power throughout the entire engine speed range. The spontaneous and direct response of this engine results from its compact configuration, which allows the shortest exhaust manifolds.

Displacing 4.4 liters, this outstanding engine delivers its maximum output of 400 hp between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm. Peak torque of 450 lb-ft is maintained from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm, with High Precision Direct Injection ensuring precise supply of fuel at all times. Piezo-injectors positioned in the combustion chambers between the valves ensure a smooth, efficient and clean combustion process. The engine fulfils the European EU5 standard as well as the ULEV II standards in the US.

Compared with the engine featured in the BMW X6 xDrive50i, this version has been modified in numerous respects to the specific requirements of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. There is no starter, alternator, or belt drive for the air-conditioning compressor and hydraulic pump. The dual-circuit cooling system has been modified for all-electric operation.

Electric motors for enhanced performance on no extra fuel.
When accelerating, the V8 engine of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 joins forces with the electric motors to ensure optimum efficiency and dynamic performance. When the driver requires more power, the two electric motors supply additional torque for enhanced performance. This boost effect significantly increases the overall output of the vehicle, without increasing fuel consumption.

While the two electric motors have almost the same output, they have been modified in their performance characteristics to meet specific requirements. The power delivered is 91 hp and 86 hp, respectively, with peak torque values of 192 lb-ft and 206 lb-ft.

The electric motors support the combustion engine effectively throughout the entire speed range. The additional electrically-generated drive power reduces the power output required of the combustion engine when driving at steady highway speeds. Load shifts are managed to give the overall system enhanced efficiency under the full spectrum of driving conditions. During kick-down and maximum acceleration shifts, the electric motors help provide an additional boost of power.

Maximum system output is 480 hp, with peak torque of 575 lb-ft. This makes the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 the most powerful hybrid vehicle in the world, with acceleration from a standstill to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds and top speed is limited electronically to 130 mph.

All-electrical driving mode reducing emissions to zero.
With its combination of two-mode active transmission and high-performance battery pack, the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is able to run on its electric motors alone at low speeds. This makes it a zero-emission vehicle under such conditions.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 may run on electric power alone regardless of the ambient temperature, as long as minimum operating temperatures are reached for the engine coolant, transmission fluid and high-voltage battery. Top speed in the electric mode is 37 mph, maximum range is 1.6 miles.

While driving electrically, the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 retains all its safety and comfort functions. The brakes remain fully operative thanks to electric vacuum supply, and don’t require the combustion engine to develop their full effect. The same applies to the Electronic Power Steering, with steering assistance being generated on demand by an electric motor.

Even the air conditioning remains fully available without any restrictions, running efficiently on an electrically operated air-conditioning compressor. Since the battery pack supplies the electric power to the 12-volt on-board network through a voltage converter, all other systems such as the lights, infotainment, and safety systems remain fully functional.

Energy Regeneration:
Electric power generated without additional fuel consumption.
The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 features an enhanced version of Brake Energy Regeneration already used in some current BMW models running on a combustion engine alone. In this case the electric motors act as generators when coasting or applying the brakes in order to feed electric power into the battery pack.

This process recaptures energy which would otherwise be lost in conventional vehicles in the form of heat escaping through the brakes. Depending on road speed, one or both of the electric motors may perform the regeneration function.

The power delivered by the generator is approximately 50 kW, about 25 times as much as the power provided by BMW’s original Brake Energy Regeneration.

Generator delivering electrical braking force.
In the generator mode, the two electric motors recapture much of the energy that must be dissipated to slow the vehicle. The stopping force generated in this way is up to 0.3 G, significantly reducing the demands on the mechanical brake system.

Sensotronic Brake Actuation (SBA) in the BMW Active Hybrid X6 may be used at any time without a direct mechanical connection between the brake pedal and the hydraulic circuit. Pedal movement is recorded by sensors and split by a control unit into brake power generated by regeneration and conventional hydraulic braking. At the same time an integrated pedal force simulator generates the usual brake feeling for the driver as an additional factor in this brake-by-wire solution.

The active brake servo builds up brake pressure with electrical control according to the signals emitted by the control unit. To ensure brake power assistance also in the all-electric mode, the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 employs an electrical vacuum pump. A mechanical failsafe function guarantees full operation of the brake system in the event of a failure or a fault in the electrical system. In this case, the stopping power required is generated by the hydraulic system alone, like on a conventional vehicle.

The primary task of the SBA system is to maximize the use of brake force available through the regeneration process. Via the xDrive powertrain, the hybrid system in the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is able to transmit regenerative brake forces to all four wheels. And whenever the stopping power required exceeds the level of 3 meters/sec, the control unit builds up additional brake force through the mechanical brake by means of the active brake servo.

In braking situations critical to driving stability, the control unit receives additional signals from Dynamic Stability Control, affecting brakes and engine management to keep the vehicle safely on course. This ensures safe braking under all conditions, regardless of whether the stopping power needed is generated electrically or hydraulically.

All driving stability systems are tailored to the dynamic character of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. Dynamic Traction Control, for example, provides maximum traction and drive power on loose surfaces such as snow or sand thanks to its higher slip thresholds. And with the DTC mode activated, the driver may opt for a particularly sporting style of driving all the way to a controlled slip in corners.

BMW xDrive: intelligent all-wheel drive for extra performance, optimum driving stability and traction.
The sporty driving behavior of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is due largely to BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Electronically controlled, variable distribution of drive power front-to-rear gives the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 superior traction and enhanced driving dynamics.

xDrive features smooth division of drive power through a transfer case with an electronically controlled multiple-plate clutch that feeds power to the axle with optimum wheel contact and grip on the road. Under normal conditions BMW xDrive distributes drive power to the front and rear axle in a 40:60 split. Sensors constantly measure wheel slip at both the front and rear, and varies the balance of drive power within a fraction of a second. Unlike conventional all-wheel-drive systems, xDrive “looks ahead” and does not only respond when a wheel has already begun to spin.

Electronic Power Steering for even greater efficiency.
The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is the first Sports Activity Vehicle to feature Electronic Power Steering. This allows variable steering assistance both when driving with the combustion engine and in the all-electric mode.

Electronic Power Steering on the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 comes complete with fully integrated speed-related Servotronic steering assistance. Servotronic reduces assistance at high speeds ensuring not only directional stability but also extremely precise steering behavior in corner. At low speeds, on the other hand, for example when parking, extra power assistance significantly reduces the steering forces required.

Liquid cooling for even greater performance on the high-performance battery pack.
The high-voltage, nickel-metal hydrid technology (NiMH) battery pack featured in the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 has a total capacity of 2.4 kWh, with 1.4 kWh available nominally. Maximum output is 57 kW, with the battery’s control unit constantly determining the output level currently available as well as the charge status of the battery.

The high-performance battery pack comes with its own liquid cooling system incorporating a heat exchanger to cool the battery pack through the flow of air from the outside and, additionally, through a cooling circuit from the air conditioning system. These two circuits are activated either individually or in combination with one another, depending on need, with the control unit selecting the most effective and efficient cooling option as a function of ambient temperature and the temperature of the battery pack.

Cooling by the air conditioning system is activated by an appropriate switch valve, with the electrical climate compressor being switched on automatically whenever required. The battery cooling function is separate from the vehicle interior cooling function. Using the air conditioning system for battery pack cooling is far more efficient and effective than using air cooling alone to maintain the battery pack at the optimum operating temperature thereby preserving the hybrid functions longer in extreme weather and sport driving conditions. As befits The Ultimate Driving Machine, the BMW X6 ActiveHybrid provides a driving experience like no other hybrid in the marketplace.

Intelligent energy management and integral safety concept.
The electronics for BMW ActiveHybrid have been developed especially for energy efficiency and driving flexibility. The control system constantly controls the distribution of energy as a function of ambient conditions, the status of the vehicle, and the demands made by the driver. The two overriding control factors are the charge status of the battery pack and the capture of energy generated through regeneration.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 fulfills BMW’s integral safety concepts that have been updated for hybrid vehicles. Examples of the features of this safety concept are the different colors of cables to avoid confusion, the presentation of clear safety warnings, and protection of the entire electrical system via extra-large insulation panels and newly developed connectors.

The high-voltage battery pack is housed in a reinforced steel casing and is located just above the rear axle at an extremely safe location in the event of a collision. The status of the battery pack is constantly supervised by integrated safety electronics, and the driver will be informed immediately of any malfunction and, if necessary, the entire system can be automatically discharged and deactivated. In the event of a crash, the system is switched off automatically within a fraction of a second. The central safety electronics then assess the severity of the accident and ensure a safe operating mode if possible.

Hybrid-specific Auto Start Stop function.
The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is equipped with a new generation of Auto Start Stop technology, specifically tailored to the requirements of a hybrid vehicle. Auto Start Stop functions at all ambient temperatures. While the engine is switched off, the electric air-conditioning compressor automatically maintains the climate and temperature desired within the passenger compartment. All other electrically operated functions continue uninterrupted, with the on-board network supplied with power from the battery pack. The hybrid Auto Start Stop can be deactivated by choosing the Manual gearshift mode on the automatic transmission.

Displays inform the driver of the operating status and efficiency of the hybrid system.
Status of the hybrid system and current operating conditions are presented in two locations. The most important information is shown in the instrument cluster, separated according to operating mode. Further information and technical explanations are shown in the Central Display.

The drive displays are split into a conventional tachometer for the combustion engine and electric drive display in the lower part of the instrument cluster. The electric drive display shows the charge status of the battery pack, the regeneration status, and the electric motor operating status. In the Central Display, this information is supplemented by additional data on current operating conditions and the current flow of energy.

Specific set-up of the suspension and the lightweight brakes.
The chassis and suspension of the BMW Active Hybrid X6 is largely the same as the technology already featured on the BMW X6 xDrive50i. The front suspension is a double A-arm configuration ensuring excellent driving dynamics, comfort, and directional stability. Self-leveling with air suspension provides a constant ride height, even when carrying a heavy load.

Lightweight brakes decelerate the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 by means of aluminum floating calipers and brake rotors incorporating aluminum hubs (or hats). Lightweight materials engineering reduces unsprung mass and improves the vehicle’s driving comfort and agility. Brake disc diameter is 15.2 inches up front and 13.6 inches at the rear.

20-inch light-alloy Aero wheels featuring an aerodynamically optimized design have been developed exclusively for the BMW ActiveHybrid X6. 19-inch light-alloy wheels with all-season tires are available as an option. In each case the tires feature runflat technology which enables the driver to continue driving after a complete loss of pressure.

Bodyshell and safety: intelligent lightweight construction, optimized occupant safety.
Intelligent lightweight construction and a special body structure for maximum rigidity also characterize the unibody of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 comes with three-point inertia-reel seat belts for all seats featuring belt force limiters and belt pretensioners on the front seats. To protect the occupants from cervical spine injury in the event of a collision at the rear, the front seats feature crash-activated headrests, the rear seats come as standard with ISOFIX child seat fastenings. The vehicle is equipped with frontal and hip thorax airbags, and side-curtain head airbags.

All restraint systems are controlled by central safety electronics including rollover sensors. The system can activate the side-curtain airbags and belt pretensioners in the event of an impending rollover.

Standard adaptive bi-xenon headlights ensure optimum illumination of the road ahead by steering with the vehicle. A daytime running light function operates through the corona rings. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 also features a windshield-mounted sensor that automatically controls the lights and windshield wipers on demand. Additional comfort at night is provided by available Automatic High Beams which will automatically dim the high beam headlights when an oncoming vehicle is detected. The standard Head-Up Display projects information relevant to the driver onto the windscreen.

New 7 Series, refreshed 3 Series, Advanced Diesel models and Concept 7 Series

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - January 6, 2009... Poised to lead its market segment once
again, the 2009 BMW Z4 Roadster will make its world debut at the North American
International Auto Show on January 11. The world's most successful purveyor of
premium automobiles will exhibit the new Z4 alongside an array of models that
are beginning to arrive at BMW Centers, from the refreshed 3 Series to Advanced
Diesels to the new fifth-generation 7 Series. Joining them on the show floor
will be the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid and BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid,
which preview the potential of hybrid technology in luxury performance vehicles.

As the first BMW Roadster with a retractable hardtop, the two-seat Z4 will
succeed both the BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW Z4 Coupe. Setting a new standard
in its segment, the Z4's hardtop opens or closes at the touch of a button
within 20 seconds, and a moveable partition preserves luggage space when the
top is down. With the compact two-piece aluminum roof stowed, the Z4 maintains
the classic proportions of a BMW Roadster.

When the hardtop is overhead, driving is enhanced by a larger heated glass rear
window, 40 percent larger side windows, increased headroom and elbowroom, as
well as the performance provided by either of two inline-6 engines, each
displacing 3.0 liters.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35i delivers 300 horsepower and impressive fuel efficiency
from the world's first inline-6 engine to feature twin turbochargers, High
Precision direct fuel injection and an all-aluminum crankcase. The 255 hp
normally aspirated engine in the BMW Z4 sDrive30i model also delivers excellent
refinement, performance and fuel efficiency thanks in great part to the
magnesium and aluminum used to produce the exceptionally light engine, which
weighs only 355 pounds.

Flagship 7 Series Reinterprets Driving Pleasure
The fifth generation of the BMW 7 Series, which will arrive as a 2009 model in
the United States this spring, completely reinterprets style, luxury and
driving pleasure. BMW will offer two versions: the 750i and the 750Li, with its
wheelbase extended by 5.5 inches. Their design radiates a natural presence,
inherent sportiness and an elegance born of precision in concept and execution.

A new generation V-8 engine with High Precision direct injection and twin
turbochargers expresses BMW EfficientDynamics at the highest level of
performance. Weight-efficient construction and innovative chassis technology
contribute to dynamic driving qualities that are unique in the world of luxury
automobiles. New, exclusive BMW driver-assistance systems such as Night Vision
with Pedestrian Detection further add to the exceptional driving experience.

Inside the new 7, the driver-oriented control center features a console-mounted
E-Shift transmission control, new to the 7 Series, positioned closely to a new
generation of the BMW iDrive controller, which presents features in a larger,
high-resolution color display. The new iDrive provides more intuitive
operation, a new controller, direct-select keys and eight programmable keys.
The standard GPS navigation system features an 80GB hard drive and displays 3D
topography with cityscapes.

The 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 delivers 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque
over an amazingly broad rpm range for optimal responsiveness. A 6-speed
automatic transmission with optimized shifting smoothness also enhances fuel
efficiency. Also new: Integral Active Steering, which adds speed-sensitive
rear-wheel steering to BMW's proven front Active Steering system. This is
included in U.S. models' Sport Package.

The base price for the 2009 750i is $81,125, and the 2009 750Li is 85,025
(including $825 for destination and handling). Both models began production in
November and will arrive at BMW Centers in March.

New Paths to Efficiency: Advanced Diesels and Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid
Rather than focusing on just a few models or technologies, BMW is committed to
reducing harmful emissions and protecting the environment throughout its
lineup. In Detroit, BMW will showcase the 335d Sedan and the X5 xDrive35d
Sports Activity Vehicle®, featuring BluePerformance diesel technology, as well
as two hybrid concepts, the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid and BMW Concept 7
Series ActiveHybrid.

The new BMW Advanced Diesel models, the 335d and X5 xDrive35d, display yet
another BMW approach to fuel efficiency. Both models feature a 50-state
emission compliant version of BMW's award winning sequential twin-turbo
3.0-liter diesel engine - the first performance-oriented and efficient Advanced
Diesel engine in BMW's U.S. line. Both went on sale in December.

The sequential twin-turbo 3.0-liter diesel engine powering both models employs
both a very small and a larger turbocharger as well as an innovative intake
system that enable the engine to develop 265 hp. Even more impressive are the
torque characteristics for acceleration: Fully 80% of the torque is available
from 1100 rpm to 4200 rpm, providing optimal performance across an exceptional
range. The peak torque is 425 lbs-ft at 1750 rpm - almost as much as BMW's
6.0-liter V12. The 335d is capable of sprinting from 0 - 60 mph in six seconds
flat. The X5 xDrive35d will do it in 6.9 seconds. No other diesels in the US
perform like this pair of BMW Advanced Diesel models.

Coupled with this performance potential is impressive fuel efficiency. The EPA
mileage estimates for the 335d are 23 city and 36 highway. The X5 xDrive35d is
rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Both offer the convenience of
travelling approximately 580 miles between fill-ups.

The BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid is a concept vehicle that showcases innovative
BMW ActiveHybrid technology in the world's first Sports Activity Coupe. On the
road, the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid is as agile and dynamic as it is
efficient, leaving conventional hybrids far behind in the driving pleasure
department.

A key component of the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid is its two-mode active
transmission. This innovative technology enables the interplay between the
electric motors and the engine to be varied according to the driving situation.
It features two different transmission modes: one that ensures maximum torque
when pulling away and in low-speed driving. The other is optimized for higher
speeds and bursts of acceleration - for example when overtaking. The two-mode
active transmission allows the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid to get maximum
performance and efficiency from its drivetrain at all speeds. The aim of BMW
Concept X6 ActiveHybrid is a twenty percent reduction in fuel consumption and
emissions. The production X6 ActiveHybrid will come to market in 2009.

The BMW Concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid previews the potential of mating BMW's
new twin-turbo V8 engine with electric drive as a mild hybrid concept
appropriate to luxury automobiles. A compact electric motor replaces the
conventional alternator as well as the starter. Brake energy regeneration
powers all electrics. The electric motor adds an additional 20 horsepower and
up to 155 lb-ft of torque as needed. The drivetrain technology featured in the
concept car enhances driving dynamics and reduces fuel consumption as well as
emissions by 15 percent in the EU test cycle. Energy is stored in a compact
lithium-ion battery housed in the luggage compartment. An auto start-stop
function optimizes efficiency.

2009 3 Series: Quintessential Sports Sedan and Wagon raise the bar
The 2009 3 Series Sedan and Sports Wagon are poised to maintain market
leadership with updated exterior and interior styling, new technologies,
enhanced ergonomics and the introduction of BMW Advanced Diesel with
BluePerformance in the 335d Sedan.

A subtle freshening of exterior design features a new front end, more dynamic

BMW of North America Banking on Dynamic Hologram of World's First Sports
Activity Coupe to Reach Target Consumers in Financial Community

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - April 29, 2008... BMW of North America and its advertising
agency GSD&M Idea City are rolling out a 3-D virtual vehicle tour to herald the
arrival of the first-ever BMW X6. Going direct to target consumers with a
hologram of the vehicle, the world's first sports activity coupe will be
featured in prominent buildings in New York City's financial district over a
four-week period.

Employing patented technology from Dutch advertising company viZoo, the 2008
BMW X6 will be projected in three dimensions, appearing as a hologram, inside a
ten-foot square, BMW-branded enclosure. Inside the light-controlled space, an
animation suggesting the vehicle's unique combination of coupe agility and
sports activity vehicle versatility runs on a loop.

"Busy finance executives represent an important sampling of the target
consumers for the new BMW X6," said Jack Pitney, Vice President, Marketing, BMW
of North America. "Since these prospective buyers rarely have time to visit a
dealer showroom, our virtual tour allows them to 'experience' the performance,
agility and utility of the X6 by bringing the showroom to them."

An interactive touch-screen inside the enclosure will allow people to
manipulate the vehicle hologram to view different angles, experience the
interior, explore the vehicle features, and get a sense of the generous cargo
space.

"The BMW X6 doesn't look like anything BMW has ever produced - you have to see
it to believe it," said Duff Stewart, President and COO of GSD&M Idea City.
"Our goal was to put this amazing vehicle in front of its best prospects and
stop them in their tracks."

The BMW X6 virtual tours will be open in each New York City location on Monday
through Friday during regular office hours, and will be staffed by brand
ambassadors during peak times. The building locations and dates are as
follows:

* World Financial Center (225 Liberty St.) from April 21st - April 25th
* 245 Park Ave. from April 28th - May 2nd
* 1 Liberty Plaza from May 5th - May 9th
* 1 New York Plaza from May 12th - May 16th.

A media partnership has been forged with CNBC-TV to help further the BMW X6's
reach among members of the financial and business community. On the television
news network, the new BMW X6 will drive across the top of the screen as part of
a reverse stock ticker - a first for any advertiser. Additionally, BMW is the
first automotive company to sponsor a taping of CNBC-TV's "Power Lunch," on
location recently at The Four Seasons Restaurant in New York City, where
real-life power lunches take place everyday. The new BMW X6 was on display.

On the West Coast, a media partnership with Variety will introduce the BMW X6
to target consumers in the entertainment industry as part of the latest
installment of the "10 to Watch" series, "10 Innovators to Watch," in both
print and online editions dated May 5th. To extend the partnership with the
leading entertainment industry trade, BMW will join Variety in supporting the
Consumer Electronics Association's Digital Hollywood Conference in Los Angeles
from May 5th-8th. BMW will be the exclusive automotive sponsor of the
conference, will stage an X6 display in front of the conference venue and,
along with Variety, a Digital Hollywood media partner, will host a "10
Innovators to Watch" panel discussion followed by a cocktail party.

Aggressively styled print ads telegraph the attitude of the new vehicle with
bold taglines like "Coupe's evil twin" and "What is it? What isn't it" set in a
heavy typeface. The ads will appear in April, May, and June issues of national
business/financial, lifestyle and automotive enthusiast magazines, including:
Forbes, The Economist, Condé Nast Portfolio, Robb Report, The New Yorker, Cigar
Aficionado, Automobile, and Road and Track.

A national cable television spot, directed primarily at viewers of business,
news and sports networks, supplements the campaign. The 30-second piece,
entitled "Clay," shows a lump of clay morphing between a variety of vehicle
shapes, evoking the BMW X6's performance-based roots, until finally landing on
the distinctive form of the sports activity coupe. The clay model is replaced
by a Vermillion Red Metallic BMW X6, and a voiceover says, "The coupe has been
reshaped. The all-new BMW X6." The spot will appear on such national cable
television networks as Bloomberg, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, Fox News, ESPN, NFL Draft
on NFL Network, The Golf Channel, NBA Playoffs on TNT, and the Speed Channel.
Other highlights of the comprehensive ad campaign for the 2008 BMW X6 include:
* Spots on the Captivate Network, which delivers news, entertainment, and
advertising to digital screens in the elevators of premier office towers in
North America's top 23 markets.
* A specially designed BMW X6 web site for Apple iPhone users, and the ability
to drive information direct to other "smart phone" devices in response to a
text message inquiry from the user.
* A prominent banner ad on the Bloomberg Terminals relied on by members of the
financial community for real-time and historical stock information.
* A BMW sponsorship of Morningstar.com's premium subscription content that will
make it available to users free of charge from April 29th - June 7th, and will
feature an animated BMW X6 that will drive across the screen when users submit
stock information inquiries.
* An online presence through financial page takeovers of business and financial
web sites like LinkedIn.com, Forbes.com, TheStreet.com, and Morningstar.com.
Also, online creative will appear in Variety.com and select in-market

ground-breaking idea to the world and the creation of a new segment with the
debut of its all-new X6 Sports Activity Coupe. This all-new addition to BMW's
very successful SAV line redefines the very notion of a coupe -- with five
doors and four sculpted seats, a higher ride and loads of cargo space. It
defies coupe conventions in one jaw-dropping look, combining coupe agility and
SAV versatility, taking the coupe to a higher level.

As the world's first Sports Activity Coupe, the BMW X6 will be available in two
engine variants: the xDrive50i (4.4 V8 engine, 400 hp, 450lb.-ft torque) and
the xDrive35i (3.0 inline six-cylinder engine, 300 hp, 300 lb.-ft torque), both
with Twin Turbo and direct injection. The BMW X6 offers unique features and

In its design, the BMW X6 definitely offers all the DNA of a genuine BMW X
model, interpreted however, in a brand-new, extremely sporting style. Indeed,
the design language of this new model is the authentic visualization of the
outstanding driving characteristics offered by the BMW X6, mainly through
intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive technology and Dynamic Performance
Control.

Various design features typical of BMW also stand out in the vehicle's details,
ranging from the BMW kidney grille to the dual round headlights optically "cut
off" at the top and the powerful contour line along the side, all the way to
the horizontal lines at the rear emphasizing the sheer width of the vehicle.

Front end with clear and dynamic orientation to the road.

Just one look at the front end of BMW's new Sports Activity Coupe demonstrates
the powerful presence of this unique vehicle. Due to the greater share of
surfaces finished in body color, the front end looks lower and even more
dynamic, clearly emphasizing the powerful orientation of the BMW X6 to the
road. This DNA so typical of BMW is also demonstrated in the design of the hood
and in the vertically positioned BMW kidney grille, with fins finished in a
sophisticated titanium color on the xDrive50i and in black on the xDrive35i.

Large air intakes are positioned far to the outside for more than just meeting
the cooling requirements of the powerful engines. Rather, interacting with the
side panels extending far to the inside over the headlights, the air scoops
provide clear orientation towards the wheels, emphasizing the powerful stance
of the vehicle on the road.

The headlights themselves merge in a dynamic sweeping line into the side
panels, the surface of the engine compartment lid is divided by striking lines
tapering out towards the BMW kidney grille like the borderlines of the engine
compartment lid at the sides.

The unique proportions of the new BMW X6 stand out particularly clearly from
the side. For example, the short body overhang at the front emphasizes the
dynamic look of the vehicle, while the roof line tapering out gently towards
the rear and the long body overhang on the rear section, add to the stretched
silhouette of a genuine coupe.

At the rear, the side window frame features the "counter-swing" at the bottom
of the D-pillar, so well-known as the "Hofmeister kink" and chrome surrounds on
the windows featured as standard distinguish the BMW X6 xDrive50i from the
xDrive 35i.

The high waistline and powerfully contoured wheel arches both front and rear,
moving the visual center of gravity to the middle of the vehicle and thus
bearing testimony to all-wheel drive, are further significant features of the
DNA of a BMW X model.

The side panel is split by two lines with striking contours, moving slowly
towards one another at the front end of the vehicle to create a wedge-like
impression symbolizing the forward-pushing, powerful character of the BMW X6.
While the lines at the side highlight the supreme elegance of the vehicle, the
special design of the surface gives the BMW X6 a particularly powerful look
from this perspective. Striking interaction of the concave and convex surfaces
emphasize the muscular look of the vehicle, providing the BMW X6 with an
excellent balance of visual power and stylish presence.

Strong shoulders and a powerful stance from the rear.

Likewise, the rear end of the BMW X6 offers a thrilling combination of
elegance, sportiness and robustness in full harmony with one another. The
muscular bumper and protection cover on the underfloor; the striking light edge
along the lower section of the bumper, highlighting the ride height of the BMW
X6; and the vehicle proportions that are so typical of a coupe, are all
examples of classic design elements that stand out clearly and convincingly in
the particular style and looks of a BMW X model.

The entire rear end is subdivided by horizontal lines giving the rear end a
wider look and emphasizing the powerful stance and road-holding of the entire
vehicle. The greenhouse with its strikingly low rear window, in turn, tapers
out smoothly towards the rear, with the rear lid featuring a distinct air flow
lip, further proof that this unique new vehicle is a genuine coupe in both its
looks and style.

Even the special design of the rear light clusters takes the unique character
of the BMW X6 into account, the L-shape so typical of a BMW X model being
re-interpreted and now boasting a particularly dynamic sweep from one side to
the other. Extending far into the side panels, the rear-light clusters bring
out and accentuate the entire width of the vehicle also through its night
design.

Sportiness and luxury within the interior.

To the very last detail, the interior of the BMW X6 offers a unique synthesis

one another symbolize the active character of BMW's Sports Activity Coupe,
sporting features such as kneepads on both sides of the center console, paddles
on the sports steering wheel featured as standard, and the fine scale on the

Like all BMW X models, the new Sports Activity Coupe offers the occupants of

BMW X6 adds to the individual style and personality of this unique vehicle. The
exterior paintwork, for example, comes in a choice of no less than ten exterior
colors, eleven leather options and three trim options ensure a wide range of

Trim in ash grain has been created especially for BMW's Sports Activity Coupe.
And while the wood variants exude a particular touch of discreet exclusivity,
the sweeping polish on the aluminum version shows a clear and distinct
reference to motorsport.

The passenger and luggage compartment on the BMW X6 are distinctly separated
from one another in the usual style one would expect of a fully-fledged coupe.
Offering 25.6 cu ft of storage space, the luggage compartment behind the rear
seats of the BMW X6 is far larger than in a conventional coupe, providing
enough space to store four full-size golf bags in the luggage compartment-even
with four people riding in the vehicle.

BMW's new Sports Activity Coupe also boasts a firm, folding cover on top of the
luggage compartment that can be folded and stowed beneath the floor for
convenient transportation of bulky objects. To increase the transport capacity
available, the rear-seat backrests may be folded down in an asymmetric split,
expanding loading capacity to a substantial 59.7 cu ft.

An automatic tailgate opening and closing function is available as an option on
the BMW X6 allowing the driver to vary the final position of the tailgate when
open. This helps to reduce the risk of damage, for example in an underground
garage with a low ceiling.

A new type of vehicle and a new driving experience, the BMW X6 definitely

Sports Activity Coupe offers new dimensions defined by a considerable

slippery surfaces. Powerful engines, BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive
technology, Dynamic Stability Control, optional Active Steering and Adaptive

Driving dynamics with intelligent control: Integrated Chassis Management.

The vehicle's drivetrain and suspension systems interact perfectly with BMW's
Integrated Chassis Management. This high-performance electronic control ensures
perfect harmony of drivetrain and suspension functions within fractions of a
second, spelling out maximum driver control and supreme performance wherever
you go and at all times.

Even under a sudden change in driving conditions for example, on varying
surfaces, in panic steering maneuvers, when accelerating or applying the brake
abruptly, ICM reacts with the utmost precision to the xDrive, DSC and Dynamic
Performance Control actuators and to Active Steering when fitted as an option.
In all cases, the nature and scope of such intervention is appropriately
controled to ensure not just maximum driving stability, but also optimum
dynamics.

BMW's X models already available today owe their outstanding agility largely to
the supreme performance and qualities of ICM. Now the central control unit has
an even greater and more progressive influence on driving dynamics in the new
BMW X6, since it is also able to use the actuators serving for BMW's new
Dynamic Performance Control. Depending on driving conditions and with fully
variable management, the power of the engine is no longer split "just" between
the front and rear axle, but also - through Dynamic Performance Control -
between the left and right rear wheel, feeding additional power to the most
appropriate point where it can be conveyed best to the road.

This drive technology, quite unique in the market enhances the agility,
steering precision and tracking stability of the vehicle in corners as well as
its traction on slippery surfaces, significantly improving driving dynamics in
all cases and under all conditions.

As a result, Dynamic Stability Control is only required to cut in by applying
the brakes electively on the appropriate wheel or wheels when the vehicle
really reaches the extreme limits of driving physics. The world's first Sports
Activity Coupe thus offers the driver the truly superb experience of being able
to handle even the most demanding driving situations with sporting style and
dynamic performance never seen before.

The drivetrain and suspension technology of the BMW X6 ensures the highest
conceivable level of safety, precision and driving pleasure on all surfaces
whether rough or smooth. The foundation of this purpose is provided by
suspension technology quite unique in the segment of BMW X models. The front
axle, for example, is a double wishbone control arm configuration applying the
double joint principle for dynamic lateral acceleration, superior tracking
stability and minimization of forces acting on the steering wheel. Appropriate
front axle kinematics, in turn, ensure optimum front wheel camber on the road
at all times, the BMW X6 thus maintains supreme grip and road-holding even
under the most dynamic conditions.

At the rear, the BMW X6 features BMW's patented Integral IV axle serving to
harmonize superior comfort with equally superior dynamics. And now this
lightweight construction has been specifically optimized for the Sports
Activity Coupe in many respects, with the entire rear axle configuration being
appropriately adjusted to the specific demands of this model, for supreme
sportiness and performance.

The wheel mounts, rear axle sub frame and four track arms efficiently take up
the dynamic and drive forces flowing into the suspension, reducing any elastic
distortion of the wheel mounts, while soft swinging mounts provide appropriate
longitudinal suspension and optimize the roll quality of the wheels.
Effectively separating the road surface from the drivetrain, finally, the rear
axle helps to ensure first-class noise control and ride comfort.

The BMW X6 comes as standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Also featured as
standard are run-flat tires, which enable continued driving even after a
complete loss of pressure in the tires. Furthermore, the Tire Pressure Monitor
system constantly monitors air pressure and warns the driver as soon as the air
pressure in the tires drops more than 30 percent below the ideal level.

BMW xDrive: intelligent all-wheel drive for enhanced dynamics and optimum
traction.

Permanent all-wheel drive with electronically controlled, variable distribution
of drive power between the front and rear axles gives all BMW X models not only
superior traction, but also enhanced driving dynamics. Indeed, BMW xDrive gains
its superiority as an intelligent all-wheel-drive system by distributing drive
power front to rear by way of an electronically controlled multiple-plate
clutch according to driving conditions, in exactly the right dosage and to the
axle with grip.

In normal driving situations BMW xDrive distributes drive power in a 40:60
split front-to-rear, with sensors consistently measuring wheel slip. Hence, the
system is able within a fraction of a second to vary the distribution of drive
forces, anticipating the upcoming situation and not just responding once a
wheel has started to spin. This serves to stabilize the vehicle even before the
driver notices any need for action.

On the new X6 with Dynamic Performance Control, handling and stability are
enhanced to an even higher level with the ability to multiply torque to an
individual rear wheel for yaw control. With the combination of xDrive and
Dynamic Performance Control, the X6 is able to counteract even the slightest
trend to over- or under-steer right from the start, at the earliest conceivable
point, benefiting the driver's sense of driving dynamics.

Unparalleled agility and tracking stability thanks to xDrive and Dynamic
Performance Control.

The positive effect of Dynamic Performance Control on the agility of the BMW X6
is clearly seen right from the start. In conventional everyday traffic, the
vehicle steers into corners with significantly enhanced precision at any
speeds.

Dynamic Performance Control likewise enhances the handling and, indeed, the
overall control of the BMW X6 in sudden steering maneuvers and at particularly
high speeds in corners. If the vehicle begins to understeer or push to the
outside of a corner BMW xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control will dynamically
shift torque to the outside rear wheel in order to counteract the understeer.
On the other hand, if the vehicle threatens to over-steer, xDrive reduces the
transmission of power to the rear wheels then the Dynamic Performance Control
transfers torque and drive forces from the outer rear wheel and diverts these
forces to the inner rear wheel.

This intervention in the interest of greater stability is so quick and finely
controlled that the driver will not even notice what is happening. What the
driver will notice, however, is that the BMW X6 has exceptional steering
precision and vehicle balance all the way to the extreme limit.

Unique: Dynamic Performance Control enhances steering precision also when the
driver takes his foot off the gas pedal.

A further unique feature of Dynamic Performance Control is that engine power
and torque are split variably between the rear wheels not only when the engine
is "pulling" the vehicle, but also on overrun. This is made possible by the
addition of a planetary gear set and a multiple-plate clutch operated by an
electric motor on both output sides of the rear differential. With this
configuration Dynamic Performance Control is able to vary the distribution of
drive power also when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator.

The BMW X6 is the first vehicle in the world to offer such a stabilizing effect
independent of engine load and drive power.

Dynamic Performance Control also serves to optimize traction on a slippery
surface. With its ability to vary the transmission of engine power
specifically as required between the two rear wheels, Dynamic Performance
Control serves to improve traction and pulling force whenever the vehicle is
running on different surfaces from one side to the other, for instance, with
asphalt on one side and a snowy surface on the other. Any differences in the
frictional coefficient between the wheels on the left and right (modal split)
are offset by Dynamic Performance Control specifically controlling drive forces
on the rear axle.

The driver can observe the interaction of xDrive and Dynamic Performance
Control in an instrument cluster pictogram. By simply pressing the lever on
the steering column, the driver is informed of the current distribution of
drive power via a bar diagram showing how much power is going to each of the
four drive wheels at any given point in time.

DSC intervening only when driving to the limit.

The difference in drive forces between the two rear wheels provided by Dynamic
Performance Control can be as high as 1327 lbs-ft (1800 Newton-meters). But
even then, all the driver will feel when Dynamic Performance Control intervenes
is a - significant - increase in agility, traction and driving stability. As a
result of Dynamic Performance Control's intervention, the Dynamic Stability
Control intervenes much less frequently than before. In practice, this means
that the driver is able to use the full drive power and torque of the engine
much longer than with a conventional system. DSC will intervene on individual
wheels or by reducing engine power only when the driver really pushes the
vehicle to the extreme limits of physical performance.

In addition, DSC in the new BMW X6 offers a wide range of additional functions
serving to promote safe and dynamic motoring including: ABS anti-lock brakes;
Automatic Stability Control; Trailer Stability Control; Hill Descent Control;
Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Brake Control, automatically maximizing
brake pressure when required in the interest of minimum stopping distances.

The DSC system in the BMW X6 has the ability to serves as an electronic limited
slip diferential for improved acceleration. Fade Compensation can increase
brake pressure under extremely high brake temperatures to maintain consistant
brake forces. Brake Drying, in turn, optimizes brake performance in wet
conditions by periodically lightly applying the brakes to dry the rotors, while
the Start-Off Assistant prevents roll-back on an uphill gradient.

The new BMW X6 features a parking brake operating both electromechanically and
hydraulically, activated or released simply by pushing a button.

Reflecting the high standard of driving dynamics offered by the BMW X6, DSC
also comes with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as a special function, raising
the DSC response thresholds to a higher level, allowing a particularly sporting
and active style of motoring, and enabling the driver to set off smoothly on
snow or in loose sand with the drive wheels intentionally spinning slightly.

Supported by a wide range of DSC functions, the high-performance brake system
featured in the BMW X6 ensures excellent stopping power under all conditions.
Vented discs on all four wheels combined with newly developed lightweight
floating aluminum calipers front and rear, guarantee extremely good resistance
to fading and maximum brake comfort on the top-of-the-range BMW X6 xDrive50i.

Active Steering for a particularly sporting and comfortable style of motoring.

The BMW X6 is also available with Active Steering as an option. This system,
developed by BMW, offers exactly the right steering ratio at all speeds. At low
speeds, such as when parking, the driver only has to turn the steering wheel
twice from lock to lock. At higher speeds, on the other hand, Active Steering
offers a more indirect transmission ratio in the interest of steady directional
stability and, as a result, enhanced driving comfort and stability.

On the BMW X6, Active Steering is combined with Servotronic, thus making an
active contribution in stabilizing the vehicle in the event of over-steer in

modular development system.

Optimized use of energy and superior power in every situation.

The innovative active transmission featured by the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid
combines two compact, high-performance electric motors with a transmission
using fixed transmission ratios. These drive systems are connected to one
another by three planetary gearsets allowing a power split covering the drive
forces of the combustion engine and the electric motors in two transmission
modes. Thus, a level of variability that is quite impossible to achieve on a
conventional hybrid drivetrain is ensured thanks to the combination of the two
drive sources, which are able to provide optimum power and maximum efficiency
under all driving conditions and power requirements from the driver.

The system, referred to as the two-mode active transmission on account of its
two operating modes, also consists of a high-performance battery, power
electronics with an integrated inverter module and the required cables.

The two-mode active transmission is based on an electrical continuously
variable transmission mode (ECVT). The two operating modes-one of which has
been optimized for low-, the other for high-speeds-are supplemented by fixed
transmission ratios.

The two power-split ECVT sections allow the drivetrain to run at continuously
variable speeds and ensure full, highly efficient hybrid functions throughout
the complete operating range of the vehicleperformance typical to a BMW. As a
result, the innovative system in the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid serves to
reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 percent in relation to a comparable BMW
running on a combustion engine alone.

Furthermore, with the two-mode system, the electric motors are very compact in
size-facilitating integration into the overall vehicle and minimizing an
increase in weight, which in the case of the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid, is
lower than conventional hybrid cars offering comparable power.

The BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid can be driven on electric power only, on the
combustion engine alone or with a combination of both power units. Depending on
driving conditions, the electric motors may also be used for both accelerating
and regenerative application of the brakes, in which case the brake forces
generated when coasting and when applying the brakes flow to the high-volt
energy storage unit to provide an increase in electric power.

This energy, subsequently available for further use, need not be generated by
the combustion engine and is therefore available virtually free of charge.

Already using this principle in a similar manner on production cars featuring
Brake Energy Regeneration, BMW is able to ensure efficient energy management
and maintain the battery at a high charge level. On the road, the support
provided by the electric motors in this way, referred to as "boosting," serves
first to give the vehicle incomparable spontaneity and a direct response; and
second, to significantly reduce fuel consumption.

BMW ActiveHybrid comes in where conventional hybrid drive reaches its limit.

Conventional hybrid systems allow efficient motoring only in relatively small
or medium-sized vehicles at relatively low speeds. This is because most of the
power coming from the combustion engine has to be conveyed most of the time via
the electrical path of the transmission and because of the use of a high level
of electric power. A car with enhanced dynamics, performance and running speeds
would therefore require a larger combustion engine calling for less efficient,
larger and heavier electric motors.

In the power split drive mode, also referred to as the output branched concept,
one of the two electric motors acts as a generator, converting some of the
engine's power into electrical current, subsequently fed to the battery or the
second electric motor. The second electric motor then converts such power
coming from the first electric motor or from the battery back into mechanical
power for the output drive shaft on the transmission.

Two-mode technology varies the balance of electrical and mechanical energy on
the respective paths for optimum efficiency.

Conventional hybrid drive systems do not come with fixed mechanical
transmission ratios, which would serve to optimize fuel consumption. Instead,
to their disadvantage, they use a continuously variable transmission which
actually requires that performance and load feedback from the car are separated
from one another, thus failing to provide a dynamic driving impression.

The two-mode active transmission, by contrast, overcomes and eliminates the
disadvantages of a conventional hybrid drivetrain. It reduces the share of
power flowing through the electrical branch of the transmission throughout a
broad range of transmission ratios. Through its power split in two transmission
modes, the two-mode active transmission provides the energy of both electric
motors in an ideal form tailored to current driving conditions.

BMW ActiveHybrid: the result of years of research.

The principle of the two-mode active transmission in the BMW Concept X6
ActiveHybrid forms a significant milestone in BMW's ActiveHybrid strategy,
fulfilling the demands made by a broad range of customers looking for a
dynamic, economical and responsible form of motoring.

To reach this goal BMW pursues a clear-cut "Best of Hybrid" strategy, enabling
use of the optimum components under a modular principle within a wide range of
different vehicle concepts planned for the future. Parallel to the Global

venture with the Mercedes Car Group of Daimler, developing components for

In its design, the BMW X6 definitely offers all the DNA of a genuine BMW X

the design language of this new model is the authentic visualization of the
outstanding driving characteristics offered by the BMW X6, mainly through
intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive technology and Dynamic Performance
Control.

Various design features typical of BMW also stand out in the car's details,
ranging from the BMW kidney grille to the dual round headlights optically "cut
off" at the top and the powerful contour line along the side, all the way to
the horizontal lines at the rear emphasizing the sheer width of the vehicle.

Just one look at the front end of BMW's new Sports Activity Coupe demonstrates

Offering almost 25.6 cu ft of storage space, the luggage compartment behind the

enough space to store four full-size golf bags in the luggage compartment-even

BMW's new Sports Activity Coupe also boasts a firm, folding cover on top of the

Dynamic Performance Control. Depending on driving conditions and with fully
variable management, the power of the engine is no longer split "just" between
the front and rear axle, but also - through Dynamic Performance Control -
between the left and right rear wheel, feeding additional power to the most
appropriate point where it can be conveyed best to the road.

This drive technology quite unique in the market enhances the agility, steering
precision and tracking stability of the car in corners as well as its traction
on slippery surfaces, significantly improving driving dynamics in all cases and
under all conditions.

As a result, Dynamic Stability Control is only required to cut in by applying
the brakes electively on the appropriate wheel or wheels when the vehicle
really reaches the extreme limits to driving physics. The world's first Sports
Activity Coupe thus offers the driver the truly fascinating experience of being
able to handle even the most demanding driving situations with sporting style
and dynamic performance never seen before.

The drivetrain and suspension technology of the BMW X6 ensures the highest
conceivable level of safety, precision and driving pleasure on all surfaces
whether rough or smooth. The foundation of this purpose is provided by
suspension technology quite unique in the segment of BMW X Models. The front
axle, for example, is a double track control arm configuration applying the
double joint principle for dynamic lateral acceleration, superior tracking
stability and minimization of forces acting on the steering wheel. Appropriate
front axle kinematics, in turn, ensure optimum front wheel camber on the road
at all times, the BMW X6 thus maintains supreme grip and road-holding even
under the most dynamic conditions.

At the rear, the BMW X6 features BMW's patented Integral IV axle serving to
harmonize superior comfort with equally superior dynamics. And now this
lightweight construction has been specifically optimized for the Sports
Activity Coupe in many respects, with the entire rear axle configuration being
appropriately adjusted to the specific demands of this model, for supreme

The wheel mounts, rear axle sub frame and four track arms efficiently take up
the dynamic and drive forces flowing into the suspension, reducing any elastic
distortion of the wheel mounts, while soft swinging mounts provide appropriate
longitudinal suspension and optimize the roll quality of the wheels.
Effectively separating the road surface from the drivetrain, finally, the rear
axle helps to ensure first-class noise control and ride comfort.

The BMW X6 comes as standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Also featured as
standard are run-flat safety tires, which enable continued driving even after a
complete loss of pressure in the tires. Furthermore, the Tire Pressure Monitor
system permanently monitors air pressure and warns the driver as soon as the
air pressure in the tires drops more than 30 per cent below the ideal level.

BMW xDrive: intelligent all-wheel drive for enhanced dynamics and optimum

Permanent all-wheel drive with electronically controlled, variable distribution
of drive power between the front and rear axles gives all BMW X Models not only

power front to rear by way of an electronically controlled multiple-plate
clutch according to driving conditions, in exactly the right dosage and to the
axle with grip.

In normal driving situations BMW xDrive distributes drive power in a 40 : 60
split front-to-rear, with sensors consistently measuring wheel slip. Hence, the
system is able within a fraction of a second to vary the distribution of drive
forces, with BMW xDrive-unlike conventional all-wheel-drive
systems-anticipating the upcoming situation and not just responding once a
wheel has started to spin. This serves to stabilize the vehicle even before the
driver notices any need for action.

On the new X6 with Dynamic Performance Control, handling and stability are
enhanced to an even higher level with the ability to multiply torque to an
individual rear wheel for yaw control. With the combination of xDrive and
Dynamic Perforance Control, the X6 is able counteracting even the slightest
trend to over- or under-steer right from the start at the earliest conceivable
point with the positive effects on the driver's sense of driving dynamics.

Unparalleled agility and tracking stability thanks to xDrive and Dynamic
Performance Control.

The positive effect of Dynamic Performance Control on the agility of the BMW X6
is clearly seen right from the start. In conventional everyday traffic, the
vehicle steers into corners with significantly enhanced precision at any
speeds.

Dynamic Performance Control likewise enhances the handling and, indeed, the
overall control of the BMW X6 in sudden steering maneuvers and at particularly
high speeds in bends. If the vehicle begins to understeer or push to the
outside of a corner BMW xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control will dynamically
shift torque to the outside rear wheel in order to are able to counteract the
understeer. On the other hand, if the vehicle threatens to over-steer, xDrive
reduces the transmission of power to the rear wheels then the Dynamic
Performance Control transfers torque and drive forces from the outer rear wheel
and diverts these forces to the inner rear wheel.

This intervention in the interest of greater stability is so quick and finely
controlled that the driver will not even notice what is happening. What he will
notice, however, is that the BMW X6 ensures exceptional steering precision and
vehicle balance all the way to the extreme limit.

Unique: Dynamic Performance Control enhances steering precision also when the
driver takes his foot off the gas pedal.

A further particular feature of Dynamic Performance Control is that engine
power and torque are split variably between the rear wheels not only when the
engine is "pulling" the vehicle, but also in overrun. This is made possible by
the addition of a planetary gear set and a multiple-plate clutch operated by an
electric motor on both output sides of the rear differential. With this
configuration Dynamic Performance Control is able to vary the distribution of
drive power also when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator.

The BMW X6 is the first vehicle in the world to offer such a stabilizing effect
independent of engine load and drive power.

Dynamic Performance Control also serves to optimize traction on a slippery
surface. With its ability to vary the transmission of engine power
specifically as required between the two rear wheels, Dynamic Performance
Control serves to improve traction and pulling force whenever the vehicle is
running on different surfaces from one side to the other, for instance, with
asphalt on one side and a snowbound surface on the other. Any differences in
the frictional coefficient between the wheels on the left and right (modal
split) are offset by Dynamic Performance Control specifically sharing out drive
forces on the rear axle.

Easily viewable on the instrument cluster, the driver receives a clear message
showing the interaction by Dynamic Performance Control. By simply pressing the
lever on the steering column, the driver is informed of the current
distribution of drive power via a bar diagram showing how much power is going
to each of the four drive wheels at any given point in time.

DSC intervening only when driving to the limit.

The difference in drive forces between the two rear wheels provided by Dynamic
Performance Control can be as high as 1327 lbs-ft (1800 Newton-meters). But
even then, all the driver will feel when Dynamic Performance Control intervenes
is a - significant - increase in agility, traction and driving stability. As a
result of Dynamic Performance Control's intervention, the Dynamic Stability
Control intervenes much less frequently than before. In practice, this means
that the driver is able to use the full drive power and torque of the engine
much longer than with a conventional system, DSC acting on individual wheels or
reducing engine power only when the driver really pushes the car to the extreme
limits of physical performance.

In addition, DSC in the new BMW X6 offers a wide range of additional functions
serving to promote safe and dynamic motoring including: ABS anti-lock brakes;
Automatic Stability Control; Trailer Stability Control; Hill Descent Control;
Dynamic Brake Control, automatically maximizing brake pressure when required in
the interest of minimum stopping distances; Cornering Brake Control; and,
finally, Active Cruise Control complete with its own brake application function.

The Automatic Differential Brake serves as a transverse lock between the two
wheels, and Fading Compensation increasing brake pressure as required under
extremely high brake temperatures, helps to maintain the brake forces required
even under extreme conditions. Regular Dry Braking, in turn, optimizes brake
performance in wet conditions, while the Start-Off Assistant enables the driver
to set off more smoothly and easily on an uphill gradient.

The new BMW X6 features a parking brake operating both electromechanically and
hydraulically, activated or released simply by pushing a button.

Reflecting the high standard of driving dynamics offered by the BMW X6, DSC
also comes with Dynamic Traction Control as a special function, raising the DSC
response thresholds to a higher level, allowing a particularly sporting and
active style of motoring, and enabling the driver to set off smoothly on snow
or in loose sand with the drive wheels intentionally spinning slightly.

Supported by a wide range of DSC functions, the high-performance brake system
featured in the BMW X6 ensures excellent stopping power under all conditions.
Inner-vented discs on all four wheels take up brake energy, newly developed
lightweight brakes with floating aluminum calipers front and rear, guarantee
extremely good resistance to fading and maximum brake comfort on the
top-of-the-range BMW X6 xDrive50i.

Active Steering for a particularly sporting and comfortable style of motoring.

The BMW X6 is also available with Active Steering as an option. This very
special system developed by BMW offers exactly the right steering ratio at all
speeds, maintaining direct steering behavior up to a speed of about 55 mph, as
required particularly for a sporting and active style of motoring. A further
advantage in this case is that the driver only has to turn the steering wheel
twice from lock to lock when parking. At higher speeds, on the other hand,
Active Steering offers a more indirect transmission ratio in the interest of
steady directional stability and, as a result, enhanced motoring comfort.

On the BMW X6, Active Steering is combined with Servotronic, thus making an
active contribution in stabilizing the car in the event of over-steer in bends
or particularly demanding brake maneuvers. When applying the brakes on
different surfaces left and right, for example, that is with a so-called modal
split, Active Steering counter-steers discreetly but firmly to prevent the car
from swerving out of control.

Unique: Adaptive Drive with data transfer via FlexRay.

Carefully harmonized interaction of the vehicle's anti-roll bars and dampers
masterminded by Adaptive Drive is another unique feature in the segment of BMW
X Models. Indeed, this combination of active body roll control and variable
damper adjustment available as an option gives the new BMW X6 incomparably
superior driving behavior.

Using sensors in the vehicle, Adaptive Drive constantly monitors and calculates
data on road speed, the steering angle, longitudinal and lateral acceleration,
body and wheel velocity, as well as ride and damper position. Applying this
information, the system acts directly on the anti-roll bar swivel motors and
the electromagnetic valves in the dampers, varying body roll and the damping

BMW Adaptive Drive uses high-speed FlexRay data transmission for fast and
reliable coordination of data. This system, developed to production standard by
a development consortium under the leadership of BMW offers a standard of data
transfer capacity never seen before - and BMW is the first carmaker in the
world to use FlexRay technology in a regular production car.

Through its superior suspension technology, the BMW X6 is able to convert all

virtually all conditions and on all kinds of surfaces. And the engines

of fuel consumption and emissions. BMW ActiveHybrid is based on
a modular concept following the strategy of "Best of Hybrid" to integrate the
most
appropriate, optimum components in each case in different concepts.

- Interacting with the two-mode active transmission, the concept, through
electrical support,
offers two operating modes, one for setting off and driving at low speeds,
one for higher
speeds. This ensures optimum use of the torque generated as a function of
driving
conditions.

- The innovative two-mode active transmission allows variable power
transmission via the
power split incorporating planetary gearsets. In addition, the active
transmission incorporates
an electric drive system and enables the vehicle to drive at fixed
transmission ratios within
one system. This combines the driving dynamics and efficiency of the
combustion engine
and the electric drive system in an innovative, intelligent manner.

Exterior design:

- The powerful presence of the car's body forms an ideal match with the flat,
sleek flow of the
greenhouse roofline. Indeed, this flowing roofline
is a characteristic feature of the car's coupé silhouette, just like the
short front overhang, the
long wheelbase and the long rear overhang.

- In its design, BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid boasts all the DNA and genes so
characteristic
of the BMW X philosophy. The visual balance of the front and rear wheels to
be admired
clearly from the side makes a clear reference to BMW xDrive, BMW's
intelligent all-wheel-
drive technology.

- The second element dominating the design of the body is the clear orientation
to the wheels,
the muscular wheel arches and the large wheels clearly bearing testimony to
the stable
position and roadholding of the car.

- The dynamically rising contour line at the side and the growing distance
between the
shoulder and the sill-line as the vehicle moves back create a dynamic wedge
shape.

- The striking front view with a clear focus on the vehicle's width again
provides the typical look
of a BMW X car further emphasised by the extra-large BMW kidney grille also
serving as the
air intake with its robust slats.

- The engine compartment lid comes with clearly shaped contours sub-divided by
sharp lines
and tapering towards the BMW kidney grille, as well as a powerful curvature
at the top with
that striking BMW powerdome.

- Through their unique shape and design, the D-pillars provide a clear
expression of power and
stability. The innovative design of the rear lights, in turn, emphasises the
sheer width of the
car, while horizontal lines highlight the wide track.

- The underfloor protection panels front and rear are made of brushed
aluminium, the rear
underfloor panel moving out when required and covering the tailpipes on BMW
Concept X6
ActiveHybrid while driving on electric power only.

- Door cutout trim with blue stripes and the name "BMW ActiveHybrid" clearly
refer to the
unique drive concept of this equally unique vehicle. The light colour of the
body, in turn, forms
a clear contrast to the dark window graphics, and the 21-inch wheels come in
innovative,
three-dimensional rim design.
