Woodcliff Lake, NJ. – September 15, 2015 – 3:00 AM
EDT… Today, BMW M GmbH presented the exclusive BMW M6
Competition Edition at the 66th Frankfurt International Motor Show
(IAA). The 2016 Competition Edition stands for exceptional
individuality, paintwork colors, BMW Individual components made of
high-tech carbon fiber, fine leathers with coordinated contrast
stitching and a range of unusual details. Limited to 100 units in the
US, the Competition Edition is available exclusively for the BMW M6
Coupe with the further honed Competition Package and with a BMW M
Performance Driving Center Experience Voucher.

The 2016 Competition Package has also been released for three model
variants: 2016 BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Grand Coupe and the BMW M6 Convertible.

Defined by outstanding performance, the three model variants are
powered by a 4.4 liter V8 BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology producing
600 bHP with a power boost increasing peak torque from 500 lb-ft to
516 lb-ft delivered between an extremely wide rev band of 1,500 and
6,000 rpm. The increased power, dynamics and handling is owed to the
same principles applied to BMW M vehicles: the chassis technology is
tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the powertrain.
Firmer tuning of the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars increase
stability, reduce roll and result in a higher level of steering precision.

The BMW M6 Coupe Competition Edition model comes with a choice of two
exterior paintwork colors: dazzling Alpine White and luminous Austin
Yellow metallic. In Alpine White, the BMW M6 Coupe Competition Edition
features striking decorative bodywork stripes in the trademark BMW M
colors, as will also be displayed on the new BMW M6 GT3 race car.
Forming an attractive contrast, customers can choose between 20-inch
light alloy Double Spoke M wheels with performance tires and 20-inch
light alloy Double Spoke M wheels with forged black with performance
tires. An M Performance Exhaust with carbon fiber tailpipes
compliments the sportier design. Along with the BMW kidney grille,
door handles and side gills in black chrome and the carbon-fiber
exterior mirror caps, they accentuate the extraordinarily sporty and
powerful presence of the car. The carbon-fiber M rear spoiler and rear
diffuser optimize airflow for increased dynamics.

In the interior, BMW Individual fine-grain Merino full leather in
black with contrast stitching – available in Opal White with Alpine
White paintwork and in Yellow with Austin Yellow metallic paintwork –
highlights the car’s exclusive sporty ambience. “M6 Competition”
lettering in metal on the door sills and in the side gill elements,
along with the lettering on the cupholder lids, is a further signature
feature of the Edition model. The interior trim strips, gear selector
and M sports steering wheel spokes are made from fine, lightweight
carbon fiber, while the steering wheel rim is lined with elegant
Alcantara leather.

M multifunction seats for the driver and front passenger, the BMW
Head-Up Display and Harman Kardon Surround Sound System or High-End
Surround Sound System by Bang & Olufsen with 16 speakers and
output of 1,200 watts are also part of the equipment range.

To experience the special BMW M vehicle performance dynamics on the
track, M6 Competition Edition customers will receive a Performance
Center Voucher upon delivery. The coupon provides each owner with a
special opportunity to visit the BMW Performance Center Driving School
of their liking for an exclusive half-day instructor led driving experience.

Limited to 120 units worldwide and 100 in the U.S., the BMW M6
Competition Edition is available at selected retailers for $164,900
plus Destination and Handling. For more information please contact
your local dealer.

Detroit, MI 48226. English and Spanish speaking BMW
representatives will be available for interviews throughout the

hybrid sports car BMW i8, the all-electric BMW i3, BMW M235i Coupe,
and other BMW vehicles at the BMW Stand.

The world debut of the 2016 BMW 6 Series and BMW M6 will be
represented in Detroit by all three body styles in the form of: the
new BMW 6 Series Convertible, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe,
and the BMW M6 Convertible. Through three
generations, the BMW 6 Series has stood for vehicles meeting the
highest standard of handling, comfort, technology, and elegance.
Using state-of-the-art suspension technology, the BMW 6 Series strikes
the ideal balance between agility and comfort. The two-door body of
the BMW 6 Series Coupe exudes an athletic and elegant
aesthetic, while its interior ambience is designed to comfortably
immerse four people in the ultimate driving experience. Similarly, the
BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe blends the performance and
elegance of a coupe with the functionality of a four-door vehicle.
The BMW 6 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe will continue in
the US in the 650i and 640i models. The BMW 650i Coupe, Convertible
and Gran Coupe are equipped with a BMW TwinPower Turbo V8 that
produces 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to an
8-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission, accelerating from 0
to 60 in 4.4 seconds. The BMW 640i Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe
use BMW’s TwinPower Turbo inline six, generating 315 horsepower, 330
lb-ft of torque, again mated to an 8-speed Steptronic sport automatic
transmission, accelerating from 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds. All 2016 BMW
6 Series models feature full-LED headlights as standard equipment. The
2016 BMW M6 is the latest example of the unique blend
of luxury and ultra-high performance that is unique to the BMW M
brand. The M6 will again be represented in the three 6 Series body
styles – Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible. In Detroit, the BMW M6
line-up will be represented by the M6 Coupe. Sporting a front end with
the now standard LED headlights and defined M-specific double-bar
kidney grille, the BMW M6 also includes the unique M gills, side
skirts, and the exclusive forged 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, with
20-inch M light alloy wheels optional. Using a 4.4-liter BMW M
TwinPower Turbo V8 engine which generates 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft
of torque, the M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe will accelerate from 0 to 60
mph in about four seconds (4.3 seconds for the M6 Convertible). The
BMW M6 transfers the engine’s power to the rear wheels via either a
6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission
with Drivelogic. BMW 6 Series vehicles will arrive in US showrooms Q2
2015. BMW

The BMW i8 is the world’s first plug-in hybrid 2+2
sports-car from BMW Group. It sits at the pinnacle of BMW i’s lineup
of visionary vehicles which are purpose built from the ground up as
electric and hybrid electric, constructed primarily from lightweight
carbon fiber. Currently in showrooms and priced at $135,700, the BMW
i8 features an athletic design and a sleek, low slung exterior and
operates with extremely high fuel efficiency. The BMW i8 has a US EPA
rating of 76 MPGe combined. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60
mph in 4.2 seconds on the way to an electronically governed top speed
of 155 mph. BMW

The BMW i3 is the first fully electric vehicle from
BMW Group under BMW i’s growing lineup of visionary vehicles
constructed from the ground up primarily from lightweight carbon
fiber. With 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque hybrid-synchronous
electric motor, the BMW i3 is electrified by a 22-kWh lithium-ion
battery, good for approximately 80 miles of emission-free driving. The
BMW i3 offers interior space comparable to the legendary BMW 3 Series
on a shorter overall body. Its 32.3-foot turning circle and a
relatively long wheelbase make it agile and engaging to drive, yet
ideally suited to driving in dense urban areas. With a combined rating
of 124 MPGe, the BMW i3 is the most electric vehicle as rated by the
US EPA. The BMW i3 is the only electric vehicle that offers the option
of a range extender – a small gasoline engine that can act as a
generator when the battery runs low. Currently in showrooms, the BMW
i3 has a base MSRP of $41,350 and the range-extender model will have a
starting MSRP of $45,200. BMW

The BMW 2 Series Coupe is offered as both a 228i and
M235i, which was the first BMW M Performance Automobile to be offered
in the US. The BMW 2 Series Coupe has unmistakable BMW handling
attributes and impressive ride comfort thanks to rear-wheel drive,
longitudinally mounted engines, near-perfect 50-50 weight
distribution, and sophisticated chassis technology. Double-pivot
spring strut front suspension and five-link rear suspension feature
tuning tailored to each 2 Series model, while variable sport steering,
M Sport braking system and Adaptive M suspension with electronically
controlled shock absorbers are all standard on the M235i in the US and
optional on the 228i. The BMW 2 Series was named to Car and
Driver Magazine’s list of 10Best cars in its very first year. An
M Performance mechanical limited slip differential is available for
the BMW M235i Coupe through the BMW M Performance Accessories range.
The BMW 2 Series Coupe has a base MSRP of $33,025 for the 228i and
$44,025 for the M235i, including $925 Destination and Handling fee. BMW

BMW will also showcase advancements made to BMW
ConnectedDrive at the BMW Stand, most notably with the
over-the-air automatic map updating technology. BMW ConnectedDrive
aims to minimize driver distractions by eliminating the use of a phone
while driving and offering navigation and traffic assistance,
providing an enjoyable and individualized driving experience.

In the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, the innovative
EfficientDynamics drive technology BMW eDrive and the intelligent
all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive are united for the first time,
creating the world’s first plug-in hybrid Sports Activity Vehicle. The
combination of a BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder combustion engine and
a 95-horsepower electric motor provides typical BMW performance, with
BMW xDrive further increasing the dynamics. At the same time, this
powertrain is impressively efficient. It has an average fuel
efficiency of approximately 62 mpg, which is unrivalled among vehicles
in this class, with CO2 emissions of less than 90 grams per kilometer
also setting new standards. Via the driving dynamics control switch,
different drive modes can be selected. In the fully electric mode,
which is free from local emissions, a maximum range of 19 miles is
possible – at speeds of up to 75 mph. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive
obtains its electrical energy from a (lithium-ion) high-voltage
battery, which is accommodated in a space-efficient manner under the
flat luggage compartment floor. This means that the room in the
vehicle can still be used flexibly, with an almost identical luggage
space volume. The high-voltage battery can be charged quickly and
conveniently using the BMW home charging station. Alternatively, it
can be replenished using any standard household power outlet or at a
public charging station.

visionary vehicles which are purpose built from the ground up as
electric and hybrid electric and constructed primarily from
lightweight carbon fiber. Currently in showrooms and priced at
$135,700, the BMW i8 features an athletic design and a sleek, low
slung exterior and operates with extremely low fuel consumption (94
mpg) and emissions output. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60
mph in 4.2 seconds on the way to an electronically governed top speed
of 155 mph.

Celebrating the competitive spirit in every BMW M car.

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – May 18th 2013, 6:00pm Eastern Time . .
. They are high-performance sports cars, each with an
individual character and all sharing superior performance attributes
with an incomparable driving experience. In the BMW M5 and the BMW M6
Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models, race track
technology is brought to the road. For generations, each model has
joined race-bred chassis components and Olympic levels of power with
linear control which can only be developed through years of laps
around the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in the Eiffel Mountains.
Now, on 2014 M5 and M6 models, BMW M GmbH will offer a new Competition
Package as an option for the four most powerful automobiles in the BMW
portfolio. M6 Gran Coupe models can be optioned with the Competition
package for $6,000. The Competition Package for the M5, M6 Coupe and
M6 Convertible is priced at $7,300.

The essential BMW M5 and M6 models are driven by a 4.4-liter V-8
engine with patented M TwinPower Turbo technology and a peak output of
560 hp in standard form. This power is managed through the standard
7-speed M Dual-Clutch Transmission (M-DCT) or optional 6-speed manual
transmission (North America only), Active M Differential at the rear
axle, and aluminum-intensive suspension, all of which are precisely
tuned to perfect harmony by BMW M’s 41 years of race-bred experience.

Competition Package: New for 2014.

The Competition Package boosts output by 15 hp / 11 kW to 575 hp /
423 kW (preliminary) in the high-revving V-8 engine with M TwinPower
turbo technology that powers the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6
Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models. At the same time, the
developers at BMW M have extensively tuned the chassis set-up. Along
with new coil springs and damper calibrations, anti-sway bars have
also been stiffened. For the BMW M5, these adjustments have resulted
in a lowering of the car by around 10 millimeters, which lowers the
center of gravity (CG) and roll center. The potential inherent in the
rear axle design – based on the race-derived principle of the rear
axle subframe being rigidly bolted to the body – and the even more
precisely calibrated bushings for the front axle are exploited with
the Competition Package.

On all models except M6 Convertible, 0.1 seconds are shaved from the
standstill to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time and 0.2 seconds from the
zero to 200 km/h (0-124 mph) sprint. Cornering dynamics and
tractability are also enhanced – something noticeable in everyday
driving but best experienced on the race track. In particular in
conjunction with the optional M Carbon Ceramic Brake system available
on the M5 and M6, all the driving dynamics attributes associated with
BMW M automobiles are experienced at the highest level.

The Active M Differential on the final drive – standard on all M5 and
M6 models – receives a unique tune when the Competition Package is
specified, resulting in further-improved traction. The new
rack-and-pinion steering with the M-specific Servotronic variable
assist function, moreover, has more-direct programming to enable firm
and secure contact with the road while further increasing the agility
of the vehicle during cornering.

Beyond these enhancements, the M chassis control system has been
adapted to the Competition Package suspension profile. With the
Competition Package, the M Dynamic Mode (MDM) of DSC (Dynamic
Stability Control) is re-mapped for even sportier handling
characteristics and higher thresholds of intervention. The Competition
Package additionally includes unique 20-inch M light-alloy wheels
along with a sport exhaust system featuring M quad tailpipes finished
in Black Chrome that lend an unmistakable look and the sound to the car.

Anniversary of a successful partnership:
when the 2013 MotoGP World Championship gets underway with the Qatar
Grand Prix this weekend, BMW M will be starting its 15th season as
“Official Car of MotoGP”. BMW has been involved in MotoGP since 1999
and provides the official Safety Cars.

The first of many highlights over the course of the anniversary comes
at the opening round, which will be held at the “Losail International
Circuit” in Qatar: the first public outing of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
It is only a few weeks since the latest eagerly-awaited
high-performance coupé from BMW M GmbH was enjoying its world premiere
at the NAIAS in Detroit. This season, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe will
spearhead the fleet of Safety Cars in action in the MotoGP World
Championship. The high-performance BMW M6 Gran Coupe is a premium
product, which combines outstanding performance with captivating
aesthetics and luxurious elegance. The latest top model to emerge from
BMW M GmbH is powered by a high-rev V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo
technology and generating 412 kW/560 hp. It is this power that allows
the BMW M6 Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2
seconds. The engine performance, chassis technology, aerodynamic
properties and balance, which is optimised using components such as
the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic roof, are aligned with the kind of
precision that people have come to expect of M. As such, the BMW M6
Gran Coupe not only offers a new luxury experience in an M vehicle,
but also fully exhausts the dynamic driving potential, which is rooted
in the BMW 6 Series. The Safety Car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe
has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack.

In total, the fleet of official MotoGP cars for the 2013 season
comprises five BMW M and M Performance models. As well as the BMW M6
Gran Coupe, the BMW M6 Coupe and the BMW M5 will also be in action as
Safety Cars. The Safety Officer will take to the track in a BMW M3
Coupe, while two BMW M550d xDrive Tourings will be used as medical
cars. BMW Motorrad will also provide two new BMW HP4s as Safety Bikes.
You can find more information on the 2013 Safety Car fleet online at
www.bmw-m-safetycar.com.

“We are delighted that our cooperation with MotoGP is already
entering its 15th season,” said Thomas Schemera, Director of Sales and
Marketing at BMW M GmbH. “This shows that Dorna Sports sees us as a
reliable partner when it comes to guaranteeing that practice sessions,
qualifying and races pass safely in the pinnacle of motorcycle racing
– even in the most difficult weather conditions. In return, the
Motorcycle World Championship provides us with the perfect platform.
This allows us to present our high-performance automobiles to a target
group consisting of motorsport enthusiasts who share our passion for
technologically innovative and dynamic sports cars – and that all over
the world. We are particularly proud to be able to run our
high-performance luxury coupe, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, as a Safety Car
in the 2013 season.”

BMW M GmbH’s involvement in MotoGP is not solely restricted to the
Safety Car fleet, but also comprises numerous sales and marketing
campaigns within the Grand Prix environment. The BMW M Hospitality in
the paddock will display MINI, BMW and BMW M automobiles. Visitors
will also receive detailed information on the Grand Prix, riders and
teams. An exclusive VIP sales programme completes the offering in the
BMW M Hospitality. On the BMW M MotoGP Experience, guests spend the
race weekend in the VIP village, thus gaining insights into what goes
on behind the scenes of the Motorcycle World Championship. Among the
highlights of this visitor package are the garage tours with former
world champion and BMW M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi (ITA), meetings
with the current crop of riders, and taxi rides in one of the BMW M
Safety Cars.

The BMW M Award is also celebrating an anniversary this year. Since
2003, this award has been presented at the end of the MotoGP season to
the rider with the best overall qualifying record. Among the recent
winners, who receive an exclusive BMW M car for their efforts, are
Valentino Rossi (ITA), Casey Stoner (AUS), Jorge Lorenzo (ESP) and
Nicky Hayden (USA). To mark the tenth anniversary of the award, the
best qualifier this season can look forward to a special highlight –
however, the exact BMW M model will not be revealed until the start of
the European leg of the season in Jerez (ESP) in May.

BMW M GmbH rang in the first grand prix week of the season with an
exclusive M6 event hosted by Alfardan Automobiles, the BMW importer in
Doha. This pre-launch event enabled Qatari national media
representatives and invited customers to be the first to view the
eagerly anticipated BMW M6 Gran Coupe Safety Car. This pace car, to be
deployed on-track for the first time this weekend, was unveiled by BMW
M MotoGP Expert Loris Capirossi. Also present were the BMW M6 Coupe
Safety Car and the BMW M6 Convertible.

The style of BMW’s four-door Coupe with performance by BMW M

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – December 12th, 2012… In early
summer 2013, the all-new BMW M6 Gran Coupe will join its famous BMW M5
Sedan and M6 Coupe siblings as what is perhaps the perfect combination
of both. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is an ultra-high performance, four-door
Coupe design with stunning aesthetics, race-bred technology, and the
signature driving character of BMW M GmbH.

The M6 Gran Coupe is made instantly unique among four-door vehicles
by its bonded-in carbon fiber composite roof panel, similar to the one
found on the M6 Coupe. Between the doors is a cabin of sensational
coupe-like design and first-class materials. The M6 Gran Coupe’s
control placement and – equally important – control feel are second to
none. The four-plus-one seating arrangement allows the M6 Gran Coupe
to carry four adults in luxury, and offers maximum seating capacity
for five when needed.

The new M6 Gran Coupe features the most powerful engine ever fitted
to an M production car, a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V-8 with 560
horsepower and an always-accessible
500 lb-ft of torque. With
this endowment, the rear-wheel drive BMW M6 Gran Coupe practically
rockets from 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds and reaches an
electronically-limited top speed of 155mph in only a few seconds more.

The new BMW M6 Gran Coupe focuses the gargantuan muscle of its engine
on the road through one of the most advanced drivetrains BMW has ever
developed. The high-torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission
(M-DCT) borrowed from the M5 and M6 Coupe sends power uninterrupted to
the innovative Active M Differential, which in turn perfectly balances
power between the rear wheels. This advanced drivetrain, combined with
truly radical chassis and suspension revisions to the BMW 6 Series
Gran Coupe on which the car is based, ensure that the M6 Gran Coupe’s
substantial output is transferred to the ground predictably and repeatedly.

The High-Revving M V-8 TwinPower Turbo Engine.

The engine of the all-new M6 Gran Coupe has the highest output ever
generated by a BMW M car, and provides a meaningful balance between
ultra-high performance and fuel consumption. The engine’s operating
behavior is characterized by traditional M traits like immediate
throttle response and linear power delivery. Additionally, thanks to
turbocharging, the engine features an unusually high and flat torque
curve, sustaining peak torque from 1,500rpm – 5,750rpm. The engine
produces about 10% more output than the M V10 engine which preceded
it, and torque is up by over 30%.

To achieve the performance levels of the new M V-8, the engineers at
BMW M GmbH started with the proven BMW M-developed 4.4-liter V-8
engine from the BMW X5 M and X6 M (internally known as the S63B44
engine) and further developed it for its duty in the latest M5 and M6
models. Internally designated S63B44Tü, this engine uses similar M
Twin Power technology combined with the reverse-flow V-8 layout. The
result is that the high-revving V-8 engine lends a fresh intensity to
the powerful M car experience. The S63Tü develops a peak output of
560 hp (412 kW) at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm (versus 555 hp at 6,000 rpm for
the S63), while its maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) is on tap
between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm (versus 500 lb-ft from 1,500 to 5650 rpm
for the S63). The rev limiter intervenes at 7,200 rpm, up 200 rpm from
the original S63 engine and now accessible in each gear until the top
speed limiter intervenes. The rev band, which offers extreme
acceleration between peak torque and the availability of maximum
horsepower, is therefore almost three times as wide as that of the V10
engine from the previous generation of M engines.

As in the M V-8 engine of the X5 M, the two twin-scroll turbochargers
are placed (along with the catalytic converters) in the V-space
between the two cylinder banks in a reverse-flow layout. This layout
results in an unusually compact engine where the intake is moved
outboard and the exhaust inboard – the opposite of traditional
V-engines. The lengths of intake and exhaust tracts are thereby
reduced and their diameters increased, reducing pressure losses -
especially on the exhaust side. A further advantage of the layout is
the short distance between the cylinders’ combustion chambers and the
primary catalytic converters; this leads to quicker warm-up of the
catalysts after the engine is started and therefore lower start-up emissions.

The patented cross-bank exhaust manifold, first introduced in the S63
engine of the X5 M is also employed in the S63Tü, but with slightly
larger tube sizes. This exhaust manifold is a special 8-into-4 setup
that combines the exhaust from two cylinders (on opposite banks) that
are 360˚ of crankshaft rotation apart from each other. Each of the
eight runners is of identical length to ensure perfectly-regular
timing of exhaust gas pulses. The acoustic sound of this engine
arrangement is absolutely signature to BMW M.

Each of the four manifold outlets is fed into each of the four
available scrolls of the two twin-scroll turbochargers. The two
scrolls of a twin-scroll turbo guide each exhaust pulse directly to
the turbine without feedback or interference from the other scroll
(that are fed by cylinders at other points in the combustion process).
Additionally, dividing the gases into two smaller paths (scrolls)
results in higher gas velocity than a single larger path. This
enhances the turbocharger’s response, thereby reducing lag. The
crossover manifold is configured so that the second scroll of the
turbo is fed by two cylinders that are 180˚ out of phase with the
first scroll. In this way each turbocharger receives distinct exhaust
pulses every 180˚ of crankshaft rotation (from one of four cylinders).
Furthermore, the two turbos receive exhaust pulses that are 90˚ offset
from each other. The result is that throttle response is sharpened
and turbo lag is reduced to a minimum. The new engine also sports
larger intake runners, larger air to liquid intercoolers and a tuned
exhaust which results in the engine making power more quickly than
previously possible. Finally, the S63Tü uses a maximum boost pressure
of 1.5 bar (21.7 psi) versus 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) for the original S63 engine.

BMW’s efficient High Precision direct fuel injection also plays a
major role in this engine’s combination of high performance and fuel
efficiency. High Precision direct injection ensures an extremely
precise supply of fuel to the combustion chambers. Injectors
positioned centrally between the valves within immediate range of the
spark plugs spray fuel into the combustion chambers with maximum
pressure of 200 bar (nearly 3000 psi), providing smooth and clean
combustion. Innovative solenoid valve injectors in the engine use
multiple injections per combustion cycle to achieve an extremely
precise mixture. The fuel also has a cooling effect on the combustion
that allowed the M engineers to endow the engine with a high
compression ratio of 10:1. This high compression ratio contributes to
both performance and efficiency, while reducing exhaust emissions –
and even has a positive effect on engine sound.

Throughout their histories, the hearts of the BMW M5 and M6 have been
high-revving, high specific output engines fed by individual throttle
bodies. The new engine introduces Valvetronic throttle-less intake
system to a BMW M engine – effectively providing 16 individual throttles.

Valvetronic is BMW’s patented, fully variable intake valve control
system that eliminates the need for conventional throttles. Engine
power is instead controlled directly by varying the amount of lift of
the intake valves. Pumping losses are minimized with this system,
resulting in efficiency and torque improvements. Valvetronic has also
sharpened the natural responsiveness of this engine compared to the
V10 engine it replaces.

The M TwinPower technology of the new V-8 engine also includes BMW’s
Double VANOS [1]
infinitely-variable valve timing system which optimizes the engine’s
efficiency and generates high torque at low engine revs. In addition,
a volume-controlled oil pump and a range of other EfficientDynamics
measures deliver an extra boost to efficiency. The new BMW M6 features
both Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start-Stop function, which
automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a stop.

The instant power delivery and sustained thrust of the M TwinPower
Turbo V-8 results in acceleration from 0– 60 mph in 4.1 seconds for
the M6 Gran Coupe. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic

The new V8 engine M TwinPower Turbo engine is mated to a newly
developed 7-speed double-clutch transmission designed to handle the
high torque and high revving nature of the engine. The M-DCT with
Drivelogic, developed especially for the new M5 and M6, has been tuned
to match the performance characteristics of the engine with the M6
Gran Coupe chassis. It delivers exceptionally fast and clean gear
changes in both Automatic mode (D) and Manual mode (S). No clutch
pedal is required for manual gearshifts and the driver can stay on the
accelerator during gear changes (conditions permitting). The driver
uses the model-specific M gear selector to choose between D and S
modes and to engage Reverse. Comfort is further enhanced by the new
Low Speed Assistance function, which smoothes power delivery in
stop-and-go traffic with a light touch of the accelerator pedal.

The shift lever offers a sequential shift pattern for the manual
gearshift mode. Alternatively, the driver can also change gears using
the shift paddles on the M leather steering wheel, complete with
multifunction buttons. In typical M configuration, the driver pulls
the right-hand paddle to shift up and the left-hand paddle to shift
down. The newest M steering wheel stands out with its smaller rim
diameter and a design that borrows from the double-spoke design of the
M light-alloy wheels.

M-DCT with Drivelogic offers three shift programs in both Automatic
and Manual mode. The driver selects his/her desired mode using the
rocker switch positioned immediately below the shift lever on the
center console. The D1 program is selected automatically when the
engine is started, tailoring gear selection to deliver the most
efficient possible driving style. D2 mode supports moderate cruising
with gear changes carried out according to engine revs and load. And,
to promote a sporty driving style laced with dynamic acceleration and
deceleration, shift times in D3 mode are set up to delay gear changes
until the engine has climbed higher up the rev range, and to downshift
more aggressively when slowing.

Drivers can also adapt the shift characteristics to their
requirements in Manual mode. S1 mode generates comfortable and smooth
gear changes. In S2, the gear changes are completed noticeably faster
and accompanied by significant shift kick at higher revs. S3 is the
one to choose for maximum driving dynamics; it enables even sportier
gear changes and is required to initiate the Launch Control function.
When the DSC stability control system is fully switched off, Launch
Control allows the driver to achieve maximum acceleration from a
standstill as permitted by surface conditions. During Launch Control
acceleration, each gear upshift takes place automatically and at the
optimum engine speed.

Active M Differential.

The Active M Differential in the new M6 Gran Coupe is an
electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential
programmed to optimize traction, stability and sporting character.
The locking force within the differential is varied continuously
between 0 and 100%.

The Active M Differential works with high precision and speed. Its
control unit is connected with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
system via FlexRay high-speed data transfer technology and constantly
cross-checks the data collected by its sensors with the feedback from
DSC. It uses this information to calculate the locking force required
to deliver optimum traction and stability during both acceleration and
deceleration. The data recorded by DSC sensors is provided to the
Active M Differential whether the stability control system is in MDM
mode or is switched completely off. The ABS system retains full
functionality in all situations.

In addition to the data provided by DSC, the Active M Differential’s
control unit also takes into account the position of the accelerator
pedal, the rotational speed of the wheels and the car’s yaw rate.
Every driving situation is therefore analyzed so that any loss of
traction on one side of the car is identified at an early stage. The
degree of axle lock is adjusted as required within a fraction of a
second, enabling wheel spin to be reduced on all surfaces, when the
right and left rear wheel have widely differing friction coefficients
and in tight corners. Optimizing traction in this way also provides
unbeatable driving stability in challenging conditions and allows
impressive acceleration out of corners. The Active M Differential can
also unlock just as quickly to stabilize the car off-throttle.

M-Specific Chassis

Each component in the suspension and chassis of the new M6 Gran Coupe
has been developed based on the extensive race expertise of BMW M
engineers. The aluminum-intensive integral rear axle subframe in the
M6 Gran Coupe is rigidly bolted to the body to maximize body rigidity
and handling precision. Reinforced chassis mountings at the front and
rear axles ensure that dynamic forces are passed through to the body
structure. Specially tuned axle kinematics and newly developed forged
aluminum suspension components boasting high strength and low weight
meet the requirements of everyday driving and the specialized demands
of track use. The result is that the BMW M6 Gran Coupe continues the
BMW M tradition of engineering a chassis that is “faster than the
engine”. As with every BMW M car, the engineers carried out the
fine-tuning during extensive testing on the legendary Nürburgring
Nordschleife circuit.

M Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) electronically controlled shock
absorbers are standard on the new BMW M6 Gran Coupe. DDC uses
electro-hydraulic damping force adjustment to provide a set-up suited
to the driving situation and the wishes of the driver. The shock
absorber settings can be adjusted at the touch of a button. In default
Comfort mode, the dampers respond adaptively to the condition of the
road surface and the driver’s style. Sport mode activates a noticeably
stiffer damper set-up, while Sport Plus allows further stiffening of
the suspension to achieve maximum longitudinal and lateral
acceleration in ultra-dynamic driving situations.

At the touch of a button, the driver can also select from three
settings for the M-specific Servotronic speed-sensitive hydraulic
power steering. The default Comfort mode keeps steering forces
reasonable when parking or maneuvering, but still provides the M
brand’s hallmark direction-changing precision at higher speeds. Sport
ensures the driver enjoys more intense feedback across all speed
ranges. Sports Plus is the lowest level of steering boost that can be selected.

The new BMW M6 Gran Coupe also uses BMW’s most advanced Dynamic
Stability Control (DSC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that
includes Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC),
Brake Assistant, Brake Fade Compensation function, a Brake Drying
function and Start-off Assistant. The DSC system has three levels of
operation. The default is “On” which provides the greatest level of
stability and traction control. M Dynamic Mode (MDM) can be activated
to override the default setting by pressing the DSC button on the
center console. This mode allows for very spirited driving – as on a
race track – while still providing a safety net, by raising the
intervention thresholds of DSC. “DSC Off” mode can also be activated
with a long-push of the DSC button for complete deactivation of the system.

Choice of High-Performance M Brake Systems.

The standard high-performance braking system of the new BMW M6 Gran
Coupe guarantees outstanding stopping power matching the overall
performance of the car. The well-known BMW M compound rotors have been
further improved for the new M5 and M6 family. These rotors thermally
separate the central hub (constructed of aluminum) and the vented /
cross drilled cast iron rotor discs. As a result, the rotors are free
to expand and contract without warping. The diameter of the brake
rotors is 15.7 inches (400 mm) at the front and 15.6 inches (396 mm)
at the rear. The six-piston fixed calipers are radially bolted to the
pivot bearing and are painted blue metallic complete with the M logo.
Together, the M brake system has been tested to provide exceptional
performance and modulation, fade resistance, and pedal feel.

The new BMW M5 and M6 family will be the first cars in the history of
BMW M to be offered with optional M Carbon-Ceramic brakes, which
become available with Spring 2013 production. These new brakes are
without parallel and take the cars’ stopping power to a new level –
especially on the race track. The brake rotors measure 16.1 inches
(410 mm) in diameter at the front and 15.6 inches (396 mm) at the
rear. Made from a carbon-fiber ceramic composite, the rotors boast
even greater resistance to heat combined with significantly reduced
rotating masses. The M Carbon-Ceramic brakes are 42.8 lb (19.4 kg)
lighter than the standard brakes, yet the innovative material also
displays exceptional resistance to wear, and the operating life of the
rotors is several times that of conventional equivalents. The optional
M Carbon-Ceramic system also sees six-piston fixed radial calipers at
the front teamed with single-piston floating calipers at the rear. The
M Carbon-Ceramic system can be easily identified through the wheels by
the special gold-colored calipers.

The M6 Gran Coupe features a unique wheel and tire combination with
20-inch M6 Gran Coupe-specific double-spoke forged light alloy wheels
fitted with giant ultra-high performance summer tires, front and rear.

The Design: An M Showstopper.

Hallmark M design features are always influenced directly by
technical considerations – such as cooling air requirements, chassis
geometry, weight-and-balance, and aerodynamics. This
form-follows-function philosophy opens a design window through which
to see the performance capability of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The front
of the car is dominated by its large air intakes, optional Adaptive
LED Headlights and an M kidney grille designed especially for this
model. From the side, the M four-door Coupe is clearly distinguishable
from the BMW M6 Coupe thanks to its rear doors and 113-millimeter
(4.45”) longer wheelbase. The low roofline flowing smoothly into the
rear, the shoulder line – which takes in the door openers – and side
windows extending well into the C-pillars accentuate the dynamically
stretched silhouette.

Prominently flared wheel arches draw the eye to a track width
specific to the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The characteristic M gills,
aerodynamically optimized exterior mirrors, standard BMW Individual
High-gloss Shadow Line package and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy
wheels in double-spoke design underline the car’s distinctive
appearance, as does another M signature – twin exhaust tailpipes
positioned on the outer edges of the rear apron. Also integrated into
the rear apron, and charged with the task of optimizing the exit of
airflow from the car’s underbody, is a diffuser made of carbon fiber composite.

Carbon fiber composite, an extremely lightweight, impressively strong
high-tech material is used in the construction of the car’s roof panel
as well. Here, the visible carbon structure provides an eye-catching
feature, as does a dynamic recess in the center of the roof. This
recess is referenced stylistically inside the car, the
anthracite-colored Alcantara headliner gaining a central section in leather.

Emulating the harmonious blend of athletic prowess and elegance
embodied by the exterior design, the distinctive M cockpit fuses
sports car style with generous levels of space and a luxurious
ambience. The driver and front passenger will enjoy M sport seats with
integral seatbelts. And the BMW M6 Gran Coupe’s standard specification
also includes Merino Extended leather upholstery. The rear compartment
offers three seats, the backrests of which can split and fold down in
a ratio of 40 / 60 to increase luggage flexibility.

M-specific cockpit design: flawless car control,
made-to-measure luxury.

The interior of the new BMW M6 Gran Coupe brings together the
incomparable combination of the driver-oriented cockpit design of a
sports car with the spaciousness and luxurious feel of a premium
automobile. Merino Extended leather upholstery, door sills with “M6”
lettering, an M driver’s footrest, exclusive carbon fiber interior
trim and the headliner in Anthracite Alcantara and Leather are all
standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with a 10.2-inch
Control Display. This screen is centrally positioned and like the
controls in the central section of the instrument panel, slightly
oriented towards the driver.

M Multifunction sport seats offer the driver and front passenger
optimum lateral support while cornering, but also a high level of
comfort over long distances. The lightweight seats with integrated
belt system have an M-specific design headlined by extremely prominent
cushion and backrest bolsters, head restraints integrated into the
backrests, eye-catching stitching emphasizing the segments of the
seats, and an M logo embossed into the shoulder area. The M
Multifunction sport seats have electric height, fore/aft, side bolster
and backrest angle adjustment, and also come with pneumatically
adjustable lumbar support, a memory function and a manually adjustable
thigh support. The M Multifunction sport seats are fitted with active
head restraints to reduce the risk of whiplash injury in a rear-end impact.

The M instrument cluster with black-panel technology includes classic
circular instruments in traditional BMW M car style, with red needles
and white illumination, as well as model-specific displays and the
M logo on the rev counter. The shift program currently selected and
gear engaged are shown in the center of the instrument cluster.
Feedback from the drive and chassis settings are also displayed in the
instrument cluster under the tachometer.

Sports Car Cockpit - Custom Tailored M Drive Buttons

On the left-hand steering wheel spoke, the driver has two M Drive
buttons which can be used to call up a pre-configured setup for the
car. For example, the driver can save a sporty configuration on the
“M1” button and a track focused setup (with all driver aids shut off)
on the “M2” button. The set-up selected will remain activated until it
is either cancelled by pressing the button again or the driver
switches to another M Drive setting. Once the system has been switched
off – as when the engine is started – it reverts back to the default configuration.

The M Drive system in the new BMW M6 Gran Coupe allows the driver to
adjust no fewer than six parameters: the engine management, the
response of the Servotronic steering system, the M-DCT shift program,
the DSC mode, the responses of DDC and the information in the Head-Up
Display. The desired settings can be configured in any combination via
the iDrive menu or by using the M Drive select buttons on the center
console to set the configuration followed by pressing and holding one
of the two M Drive buttons for a few seconds (until the configuration
is stored). For safety reasons, a setup involving setting MDM mode or
“DSC Off” requires confirmation from the driver – by pressing the
M Drive button again – before it can be activated. The setup
configuration selected is shown by a “M1” or “M2” symbol displayed in
the instrument cluster.

M Head-Up Display.

The M Drive configuration also includes the information shown on the
optional M Head-Up Display and projects important information onto the
windshield directly in the driver’s field of vision. A full spectrum
of colors is used to display graphics and symbols and the all-color
capability means road sign symbols can be reproduced very
realistically. In addition to a digital speed read-out, the M-specific
version of the Head-Up Display also shows the gear currently engaged
and a color rev counter symbol, complete with Shift Lights.

Developed on the Nordschleife- as with every car ever
engineered by BMW M

BMW has been testing on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife since
the 1960s. Every vehicle developed by BMW M since its establishment in
1972 has had to demonstrate its capabilities on the grueling 14-mile
circuit before it was deemed ready.

In the early years BMW conducted tests out of rented facilities. BMW
Motorsport also rented facilities for many years in order to prepare
for race activities like the 24h enduro at the ’Ring.

So dedicated was the company to fully integrating the Nürburgring
into its testing regimen that, in 1991, BMW became the first
manufacturer to establish a permanent testing facility on site.
Between 2003 and 2008 the test facility was re-built and enlarged
without interrupting ongoing test activities. This dedication can be
felt from behind the wheel of every product created by BMW M. The new
BMW M6 Gran Coupe is the latest model to demonstrate the results of
this dedication.

The new BMW M6 Gran Coupe will reach US Authorized BMW Center
showrooms in early Summer, 2013. US Pricing, final technical
specifications, EPA fuel efficiency estimates, as well as standard and
optional equipment for will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

They join summer-favorite M6 Convertible already on sale.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 31, 2012… The iconic BMW
M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe went on sale in the US last week after a two
year hiatus. They are more powerful, more athletic, more luxurious and
more efficient than ever before. They join the all-new BMW M6
Convertible which first arrived in US BMW Center showrooms last month.
For more than a quarter century, the BMW M5 and M6 have exemplified
the luxury and daily versatility of a true BMW combined with all-out
supercar performance.

The M5 and M6 are ultra-high-performance sports cars with exceptional
dynamic abilities which have been carefully tuned by M engineers on
racetracks around the world under all conditions. Simultaneously, the
M5 and M6 bring new standards for daily driving comfort and features.
To achieve these lofty goals, the new BMW M5 Sedan, M6 Coupe, and M6
Convertible share the most powerful engine ever fitted in a
series-produced model from BMW M GmbH mated to a high-torque 7-speed
M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT). An innovative Active M
Differential further splits power transfer between the rear wheels.
This drivetrain, combined with extensive chassis and suspension
upgrades ensure that the engine’s performance can be transferred to
the ground.

The engine: High-Revving V8 Engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology.

The new engine shared by the BMW M5 and M6 has the highest output
ever generated by a BMW M car, and at the same time provides the most
efficient balance between performance and fuel consumption. It is
characterized by immediate throttle response, a linear power band and
an unusually high and flat torque curve. The new engine produces
around 10% higher output than the V10 engine of its predecessors and
torque is up by over 30%. At the same time, fuel efficiency has
improved by nearly 25 percent.

To achieve the performance levels demanded by the M5 and M6, the
engineers at BMW M started with the proven BMW M developed V8 engine
from the BMW X5 M - X6 M (internally known as the S63) and further
developed it for its duty in the latest M5 and M6 models. Internally
designated as the S63Tü this new engine uses similar M Twin Power
technology combined with the reverse flow V8 layout. The result is
that the high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology
lends a whole new intensity to the powerful thrust at higher rev
ranges for which M cars are known. The 4.4-liter engine develops a
peak output of 560 hp (412 kW) at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm (versus 555 hp at
6,000 rpm for the S63), while its maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (680 Nm)
is on tap between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm (versus 500 lb-ft from 1,500 to
5650 rpm for the S63). The rev limiter intervenes at 7,200 rpm (up 200
rpm from the S63 engine). The rev band, which offers extremely dynamic
acceleration between peak torque and the availability of maximum
output, is therefore almost three times as wide as that of the V10
engine in the previous generation M5/M6.

As in the V-8 engine of the X5 M, the two twin-scroll turbochargers,
along with the catalytic converters, are placed in the V-space between
the two cylinder banks in a reverse flow layout. This layout results
in an unusually compact engine where the intake is moved outboard and
the exhaust inboard – the opposite of conventional V-engines. The
lengths of intake and exhaust tracts are thereby reduced and their
diameters increased, reducing pressure losses - especially on the
exhaust side. A further advantage of the layout is the short distance
between the cylinders’ combustion chambers and the primary catalytic
converters; this leads to quicker warm-up of the catalysts after the
engine is started and therefore lower start-up emissions.

The patented cross-bank exhaust manifold, first introduced in the S63
engine of the X5 M - X6 M is also employed in the S63Tü. This exhaust
manifold is a special 8-into-4 setup that combines the exhaust from
two cylinders (on opposite banks) that are 360˚ of crankshaft rotation
apart from each other. Each of the eight runners is of identical
length to ensure perfectly regular timing of exhaust gas pulses.

Each of the four manifold outlets is fed into each of the four
available scrolls of the two twin-scroll turbochargers. The two
scrolls of a twin-scroll turbo lead each exhaust pulse directly to the
turbine without feedback or interference from the other scroll (that
are fed by cylinders at other points in the combustion process).
Additionally, dividing the gases into two smaller paths (scrolls)
results in higher gas velocity than a single larger path. This
enhances the turbocharger’s response thereby reducing lag. The
crossover manifold is configured so that the second scroll of the
turbo is fed by two cylinders that are 180˚ out of phase with the
first scroll.
Finally, the S63Tü uses a maximum boost pressure
of 1.5 bar (21.7 psi) versus 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) for the S63 engine.

BMW’s efficient High Precision direct fuel injection also plays a
major role in this engine’s combination of high performance and fuel
efficiency. High Precision direct fuel injection ensures an extremely
precise supply of fuel to the combustion chambers. Injectors
positioned centrally between the valves within immediate range of the
spark plugs spray the fuel into the combustion chambers with maximum
pressure of 200 bar (nearly 3000 psi), providing smooth and clean
combustion. Innovative solenoid valve injectors in the new BMW M5/M6
engine use multiple injections per combustion cycle to achieve an
extremely precise mixture preparation. The fuel also has a cooling
effect on the combustion that allowed the M engineers to endow the
engine with a high compression ratio of 10:1. This high compression
ratio contributes to both performance and efficiency, while reducing
exhaust emissions – and even has a positive effect on engine sound.

Throughout its history, the heart of the BMW M5 and M6 has been its
high-revving, high output-per-liter engine fed by individual throttle
plates. The new engine introduces VALVETRONIC variable valve control
system to a BMW M engine – effectively providing 16 individual throttles.

VALVETRONIC is BMW’s patented fully variable valve control system
that eliminates the need for conventional throttles. Engine power is
instead controlled directly by varying the amount of lift of the
intake valves. Pumping losses are minimized with this system and
resulting in efficiency and torque improvements. VALVETRONIC has also
sharpened the responsiveness of this engine compared to the V10 engine
it replaces.

The M TwinPower Technology of the new V8 engine also includes BMW’s
Double VANOS [1] infinitely-variable
valve timing system which optimizes the engine’s efficiency and
generates high torque at low engine revs. In addition, a
volume-controlled oil pump and a range of other EfficientDynamics
measures deliver an extra boost to efficiency. The new BMW M5 and M6
feature both Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start-Stop
function, which automatically switches off the engine when the car
comes to a stop.

The engine’s exhilarating thrust gives both models impressive
acceleration. The instant power delivery and sustained thrust of the
engine results in acceleration of 0 – 60 mph in 4.1 seconds for the
Coupe and 4.2 seconds for the Convertible. The top speed of both
models is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). The sprint for
the M5 from rest to the 60 mph (0-100 km/h) mark is all over in 4.2
seconds (4.3 for the 6-speed manual) and from that point progress
continues with barely any let-up. Maximum speed is electronically
restricted to 155 mph (250 km/h). While the engine’s output has
increased by around 10% and maximum torque is up by more than 30%, the
new BMW M5 and M6 models consume roughly 25% less fuel and have a
highway range about 34% higher than their predecessors.

M TwinPower Turbo Technology also shapes the development of the V8
engine’s soundtrack. The concept of crossover exhaust manifolds plays
a key role in delivering a multi-layered collage of sound. The
twin-tailpipe exhaust system of the new BMW M5 and M6 runs largely in
a straight line and has a large cross section. The two exhaust pipes
feed into a single muffler from which the customary M quad tailpipes
extend out through the far left and right-hand sides of the rear diffuser.

7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic

The new V8 engine M TwinPower Turbo engine is mated to a newly
developed 7-speed double-clutch transmission designed to handle the
high torque and high revving nature of the engine. The M DCT with
Drivelogic System developed especially for the new M5 and M6 has been
tuned to the performance characteristics of the engine. It delivers
exceptionally fast and clean gear changes in both automatic mode (D)
and manual mode (S). No clutch pedal is required for manual gearshifts
and the driver can keep their foot on the accelerator during gear
changes. The driver uses the model-specific M gear selector to choose
between D and S mode and to engage reverse. Comfort is further
enhanced by the new Low Speed Assistance function, which smoothes
power delivery in stop-and-go traffic with a light touch of the
accelerator pedal.

The transmission offers a sequential shift pattern for the manual
gearshift mode. Alternatively, the driver can also change gears
manually using the shift paddles on the newly developed M leather
steering wheel, complete with multifunction buttons. In typical M
configuration, the driver pulls the right-hand paddle to shift up and
the left-hand paddle to shift down. The new M steering wheel stands
out with its smaller rim diameter and a design that borrows from the
double-spoke design of the M light-alloy wheels.

M DCT with Drivelogic offers three shift programs in both automatic
and manual modes. The driver selects his/her desired mode using the
rocker switch positioned immediately below the shift lever on the
center console. The D1 program is selected automatically when the
engine is started, tailoring gear selection to deliver the most
efficient possible driving style. D2 mode supports laid-back cruising
with gear changes carried out according to engine revs and load. And,
to promote a sporty driving style laced with dynamic acceleration,
shift times in D3 mode are set up to delay gear changes until the
engine has climbed higher up the rev range.

When the stability control system is switched off, Launch Control
allows the driver to achieve maximum acceleration from a standstill as
permitted by conditions. During Launch Control acceleration, each gear
shift takes place automatically and at the optimum engine speed.

Active M Differential.

The Active M Differential in the new M5 and M6 is an electronically
controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential programmed to
optimize traction, stability and sporting character.

The rear axle’s multi-plate limited-slip differential works with high
precision and speed. Its control unit is connected with the Dynamic
Stability Control (DSC) system via FlexRay high-speed data transfer
technology and constantly cross-checks the data collected by its
sensors with the feedback from DSC. It then uses this information to
calculate the locking force required to deliver optimum traction and
stability. The data recorded by DSC sensors is also passed on if the
stability control system is switched off. The locking force within the
differential can be varied continuously between 0 and 100%. The ABS
system retains full functionality in all situations.

In addition to its own data and that provided by DSC, the Active M
Differential’s control unit also takes into account the position of
the accelerator pedal, the rotational speed of the wheels and the
car’s yaw rate. Every driving situation is therefore analyzed so that
any loss of traction on one side of the car is identified at an early
stage. The degree of lock is adjusted as required within a fraction of
a second, enabling wheel spin to be prevented on slippery surfaces,
when the right and left rear wheel have widely differing friction
coefficients and in tight corners. Optimizing traction in this way
also provides unbeatable driving stability in challenging conditions
and allows impressive dynamic acceleration out of corners.

M-Specific Chassis

Each component in the suspension and chassis of the new M5 and M6 has
been developed based on the extensive race expertise of BMW M
engineers. In both models, the integral rear axle subframe is directly
bolted to the body to maximize body rigidity and handling precision.
Reinforced chassis mountings for the front and rear suspension ensure
that dynamic forces are passed through to the body structure.
Specially tuned axle kinematics and newly developed forged aluminum
suspension components boasting impressive strength and minimized
weight meet both the requirements of everyday road driving and the
specialized demands of track use. The result is that the BMW M5 and
BMW M6 continue the BMW M tradition of engineering a chassis that is
“faster than the engine”. As with every BMW M car, the engineers
carried out the fine-tuning during extensive testing on the
Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) electronically controlled shock
absorbers are standard on the new BMW M5/M6. DDC uses
electro-hydraulic damping force adjustment to provide a set-up suited
to the driving situation and the wishes of the driver. The shock
settings can be adjusted at the touch of a button. In “Comfort” mode,
they respond adaptively to the condition of the road surface and the
driver’s style. “Sport” mode activates a noticeably stiffer damper
set-up, while “Sport +” allows further stiffening of the suspension to
achieve maximum longitudinal and lateral acceleration in ultra-dynamic
driving situations.

At the touch of a button, the driver can also select from three
settings for the M-specific Servotronic speed-sensitive power
steering. “Comfort” mode requires only a small amount of steering
force when parking or maneuvering, but still provides the M brand’s
hallmark direction-changing precision at higher speeds. “Sport”
ensures the driver enjoys more intensive feedback across all speed
ranges. “Sports Plus” is the highest level of steering dynamics that
can be selected where the driver is called on to use even greater
force with the steering wheel.

The new BMW M5 and BMW M6 also use BMW’s most advanced Dynamic
Stability Control (DSC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that
include Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC),
Brake Assistant, brake fade compensation, a Brake Drying function and
Start-off Assistant. The DSC system has three levels of operation.
The default is “DSC On” which provides the greatest level of stability
and traction control. M Dynamic Mode (MDM) can be activated to
override the basic setting by pressing the DSC button on the center
console. This mode allows for very spirited driving – as on a race
track – while still providing a safety net, by raising the
intervention thresholds of DSC. “DSC Off” mode can also be activated
at the touch of a button for complete deactivation of the system.

High-Performance Brake System

The high-performance braking system of the new BMW M5 and BMW M6
guarantees outstanding stopping power matching the overall performance
of the car. The typical BMW M compound rotors have been further
improved for the new M5 and M6. These rotors thermally separate the
central hub, which is constructed of aluminum for reduced unsprung
weight, and the vented/cross drilled cast iron rotors. As a result,
the rotors are free to expand and contract without warping. The
six-piston fixed calipers are radially bolted to the pivot bearing and
are painted dark blue metallic complete with the M logo. Together, the
brake system has been tested to provide exceptional performance, fade
resistance and pedal feel.

The standard M5 wheel and tire combination is a19 in. M specific
light alloy wheels fitted with 265/40 R19 tires in the front and
295/40 R 19 tires at the rear. 20-in. forged M light-alloy wheels can
be ordered as an option. The standard M6 wheel and tire combination
is a 19 inch M specific light alloy wheels fitted with 265/40 R19
ultra-high performance summer tires in the front and 295/35 R 19 tires
at the rear. 20-inch forged M light-alloy wheels can again be ordered
as an option.

The new BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible will be the first cars in the
history of BMW M to be offered with optional M Carbon-Ceramic brakes
(available in 2013). These new brakes are without parallel and take
the cars stopping power to another new level – especially at the race
track. The brake rotors measure 16.1 inches (410 mm) in diameter at
the front and 15.6 inches (396 mm) at the rear. Made from a
carbon-fiber ceramic compound, the rotors boast even greater
resistance to heat combined with significantly reduced rotating
masses. The M Carbon-Ceramic brakes are 42.8 lb (19.4 kg) lighter than
the standard brakes, yet the innovative material also displays
exceptional resistance to wear, and the operating life of the rotors
is many times that of conventional equivalents. The optional M
Carbon-Ceramic system also sees six-piston fixed radial calipers at
the front teamed with single-piston floating calipers at the rear. The
M Carbon-Ceramic system can be easily identified through the wheels by
the special gold-colored calipers.

BMW M5: 6-Speed Manual Transmission

The 6-speed manual will be available from the start of production
this summer and will be offered as a no-cost alternative to the
standard 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (DCT). The manual
gearbox was a popular choice for U.S. customers of the previous
generation M5 and continues to be a unique offer in the segment.

Though the 6-speed gearbox has one less gear than the M-DCT
transmission, the ratios have been optimized for acceleration,
flexibility and fuel economy. Final drive ratio and special M Active
differential are maintained. The new transmission is mated to a short
throw shift linkage topped with a black leather backlit shift knob.

BMW M5 Design: Exterior

The design of the BMW M5 showcases its stand-out character. The
dynamic proportions and stylish authoritative appearance of the BMW 5
Series Sedan has been further enhanced by the addition of M-specific
design features. The carefully selected enhancements are geared to
meeting technical demands, making them a central element of the
Sedan’s performance. The car’s extraordinary potential is highlighted
subtly and with impressive authenticity by the distinctive design
elements on its front, sides and rear end.

The design of the front fascia embodies the impressive power of the
new V8 engine. The contour lines of the hood converge in a V to the
brand’s hallmark double-kidney grille. The wide-spread arrangement of
the customary M black slats – like the three air intakes in the lower
section of the front apron – emphasizes the engine cooling capacity
behind the grille. The arrangement of the air intakes over various
levels creates an impressive depth which accentuates the dynamic,
forward-thrusting appearance of the Sedan.

The three front air intakes emphasize the width of the new M5. The
two side air intakes have a dynamic curving form positioned far to the
outer edges of the car. They emphasize the wide track and fill the
spaces in the front apron of the BMW 5 Series Sedan normally reserved
for fog lamps. At the lower edge of the front end, air-channeling
flaps developed on the race track ensure optimized aerodynamics.

The standard Adaptive Xenon headlights of the new BMW M5 feature
visually unique LED light rings which also act as daytime running
lights. The indicator lights positioned on the car’s outer edges each
consist of 10 LED units. LED accent lights cut across the top of the
customary BMW twin round headlights to perfect the intent look – both
during day and night-time driving – characteristic of all BMW models.

The long wheelbase, set-back passenger compartment and High-gloss
Black side window borders clearly accentuate the stretched silhouette
of the new BMW M5. Muscular flared wheel arches spotlight the wide
track. Wheels sitting flush with the bodywork and a 13mm lowered
suspension enhance the car’s sporting presence when viewed from the
side. The unique 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design
also assist in defining its presence and road holding dynamics. The
lightweight construction of the optional 20-inch forged wheels is
highlighted by its five slim double-spokes. This design clears a line
of sight to the high-performance brakes with six-piston fixed
calipers, hinting at the precision with which the driver can modulate
the car’s braking prowess.

The front fenders carry a fresh take on the hallmark M gills. The
three-dimensional shaping, a wide chrome frame and the free-floating
look of the indicator bar, which bears the M logo, give the intakes an
extremely deep-set look. The aerodynamically optimized form of the
exterior mirrors is emphasized by a horizontal crease. The mirror caps
are painted in body color, the mirror base and lower edge in
High-gloss Black.

The sills of the new BMW M5 also have a unique design of their own. A
particularly powerful bulge at the back end of the skirts and a crease
rising slightly to the tail divert the eye to the rear wheel arches –
and therefore to the drive axle of this high-performance sports sedan.

The design of the rear fascia provides an effective expression of the
superior sports performance of the new BMW M5. There are further
design elements of the new BMW M5 that focuses on the car’s width
through the dominance of horizontal lines driving additional emphasis
to an athletically formed rear fascia. The tailored rear fascia of the
M5 provides a fluid transition into the wide wheel arches, drawing
even more attention to the drive forces channeled through the rear wheels.

A diffuser integrated into the lower edge of the rear fascia provides
efficient air flow out the rear of the car under floor section. A
signature M feature of the new BMW M5 is the twin-pipe exhaust system,
where tailpipes are positioned wide to either side of the diffuser and
have aerodynamically formed surrounds. The subtle Gurney-style rear
spoiler on the trunk lid also aids the car’s aerodynamics by providing
additional down force at high speeds.

The L-shaped rear lights fit the brand’s template down to the
distinctive night-time look. Three LED-powered light strips shape the
face of the characteristically homogeneous units, and the turn signals
and brake lights are also fed by LED units. The reflectors are
arranged immediately below the rear lights. This is higher up on the
rear apron than normally located on the regular BMW 5 Series Sedan and
accentuates the car’s powerful muscular form.

BMW M5 Design: Interior

The interior of the new BMW M5 brings together the incomparable
combination of a driver-oriented cockpit design of a sports car, the
spaciousness and luxurious feel of a premium automobile. Customized
M sports seats, Merino extended leather upholstery, door sills with
“M5” lettering, an M driver’s footrest, exclusive Aluminum Trace
interior trim strips and the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite
are all standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with a
10.2-inch Control Display. This screen is centrally positioned and
like the controls in the central section of the instrument panel,
slightly oriented towards the driver.

The instrument cluster with black-panel-technology includes classic
circular instruments in traditional BMW M car style, with red needles
and white illumination, as well as model-specific displays and the
M logo on the rev counter. The shift program currently selected and
gear engaged are shown in the center of the instrument cluster.
Feedback from all the drive and chassis settings selected at the touch
a button are also displayed in the cockpit.

BMW M6 Design: athletic aura, powerfully taut surfaces,
elegant lines.

Classical proportions, the sporty yet elegant lines of the BMW 6
Series and the familiar design language of BMW M Automobiles form the
foundations for the body design of the BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible.
Powerfully taut surfaces and precise contours underline the athletic
aura of the two models. In addition, a model-specific interpretation
of hallmark M styling cues includes design details which are
influenced directly by technical considerations – such as the cooling
air required, chassis geometry and aerodynamics – and therefore
further highlight the cars’ outstanding performance attributes.

Wide air intakes, stunningly contoured headlight units and large,
smooth surfaces shape the front view of the new BMW M6 Coupe and
Convertible. Another eye-catching element of the car’s nose is its
newly designed M kidney grille, which bears an “M6” badge – an homage
to the first generation M6. The grille’s black, paired kidney grille
slats take their cues from the characteristic double-spoke design of
the M light-alloy wheels. The 30 millimeter (1.2 inch) increase in
track width over the two cars’ respective 6 Series stablemates is
complemented by powerfully flared front wheel arches, which sit flush
with the wheels. This extra width offers a clear nod to the optimized
roadholding of these high-performance sports cars. The
three-dimensional shaping of their air intakes and race-inspired flaps
designed to control airflow to the outer air intakes also underlines
the cars’ forward-surging, dynamic character.

An LED accent light cuts across the tops of the standard Adaptive
Xenon Headlights. The bright white, three-dimensional LED corona rings
are leveled off to striking effect at the top and lower edges.
Adaptive LED Headlights are available as an option on both M6 models.
The LED sources in these headlights are placed on a horizontal rib
running through the center of the units and feed their light into the
reflectors in front of them. This ensures that the distinctive
appearance of the twin circular headlights comes across clearly in
every situation. The turn signals – in the form of horizontally
arranged LED units – are integrated into the headlight units below the
light rings.

The familiar M athleticism of both models is also clearly visible
from the side. The front fenders feature familiar M gills. Their
three-dimensional shape, wide chrome frames and indicator bars –
complete with M logo – give them an extremely deep-set look. In tune
with the wider wheel arches, the character lines around the gills are
suitably prominent. Eye-catching creases on the model-specific side
skirts sweep upwards, diverting the gaze to the rear wheels. Both BMW
M6 models come standard with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels. These
forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in a two-tone finish. The
optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, meanwhile, hint at reduced
weight with their five slender double-spokes and allow a clear line of
sight through to the powerful brake system.

The design of the rear hints at the stable roadholding and powerful
poise of the new BMW M6 models by presenting a view that broadens
towards the lower section and incorporates several horizontal lines.
The reflectors, positioned immediately below the L-shaped rear lights,
provide an individual expression of sportiness. However, the clearest
pointer to the unmistakable identity of the two high-performance
sports cars are the familiar M quad exhaust tailpipes positioned on
either side of the diffuser integrated into the lower area of the rear fascia.

Dynamic contours, lightweight material: the Carbon Fiber
Composite roof of the BMW M6 Coupe.

Like its predecessor, the roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe is molded from
natural color Carbon Fiber Composite. The dark color of the roof gives
the two-door car’s silhouette a longer look, which is further
emphasized by the dynamic longitudinal character lines unique to the
M6 Coupe. The use of the lightweight material for the roof allows the
car’s center of gravity to be lowered, enhancing agility. The standard
BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim surrounds the side windows
(or the waistline in the case of the BMW M6 Convertible) and the base
and lower section of the aerodynamically optimized M exterior mirror caps.

The elegant yet aggressive look of the BMW M6 Convertible is
underlined by the flying buttress architecture of the high-quality
soft-top roof. Projecting into the rear section, the buttresses
accentuate the car’s dynamically sweeping silhouette. The heated,
vertical glass rear window, which is situated just behind the rear
seats, retracts independently of the soft-top itself. The automatic
opening and closing process for the roof can be activated both at a
standstill and while on the move at speeds of up to 25 mph (40 km/h).
The standard Comfort Access system allows the roof to be opened or
closed by pressing the remote control button on the car key. It takes
the roof 19 seconds to open and 24 seconds to close again.

Customers can chose from one non-metallic and eight metallic shades
(including four exclusive M finishes) for the exterior paintwork of
both models. The soft-top for the new M6 Convertible is available in
Black and Beige, or – as an option – in Anthracite Silver effect.

M6: M-specific cockpit design: flawless car control,
made-to-measure luxury.

The interior of the new BMW M6 brings together the incomparable
combination of a driver-oriented cockpit design of a sports car, the
spaciousness and luxurious feel of a premium automobile. Newly
developed M sports seats, Merino extended leather upholstery, door
sills with “M6” lettering, an M driver’s footrest, exclusive carbon
fiber interior trim and the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite
are all standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with a
10.2-inch Control Display. This screen is centrally positioned and
like the controls in the central section of the instrument panel,
slightly oriented towards the driver.

The new M Multifunction seats offer the driver and front passenger
optimum lateral support while cornering, but also a high level of
comfort over long distances. The lightweight seats with integrated
belt system have an M-specific design headlined by extremely prominent
cushion and backrest bolsters, head restraints integrated into the
backrests, eye-catching stitching emphasizing the segments of the
seats, and an M logo embossed into the shoulder area. The M
Multifunction seats have electric height, fore/aft, side bolster and
backrest angle adjustment, and also come with pneumatically adjustable
lumbar support, a memory function and a manually adjustable thigh
support. The M Multifunction seats are fitted with active head
restraints to reduce the risk of injury in a rear-end impact.

The instrument cluster with black-panel-technology includes classic
circular instruments in traditional BMW M car style, with red needles
and white illumination, as well as model-specific displays and the
M logo on the rev counter. The shift program currently selected and
gear engaged are shown in the center of the instrument cluster.
Feedback from all the drive and chassis settings selected at the touch
a button are also displayed in the instrument cluster under the tachometer.

Sports Car Cockpit - Custom Tailored M Drive Buttons

On the left-hand steering wheel spoke, the driver has two M Drive
buttons which can be used to call up a pre-configured setup for the M5
and M6. For example, the driver can save a sporty road configuration
on the “M1” button and a track focused setup (with all driver aids
shut off) on the “M2” button. The set-up selected will remain
activated until it is either cancelled by pressing the button again or
the driver switches to another M Drive setting. Once the system has
been switched off – as when the engine is started – it reverts back to
a default configuration focusing on efficiency and ride comfort.

The M Drive system in the new BMW M5 and BMW M6 allows the driver to
adjust no fewer than six parameters: the engine management, the
response of the Servotronic steering system, the M DCT shift program,
the DSC mode, the responses of DDC and the information in the Head-Up

Body Structure and Safety

The hallmark M handling and occupant protection both are made
possible due to the extraordinary strength of the BMW M5, the BMW M6
Coupe and Convertible body structures. Incredibly, durable
load-bearing structures and precisely defined deformation zones keep
the forces released in a collision away from the extremely stiff
passenger compartment. The new BMW M5 and BMW M6 models include front
and side airbags, three-point inertial reel seat belts on all seats,
front belt force limiters, seat belt tensioners, and ISOFIX child seat
attachments in the rear all as standard equipment. The M6 Coupe also
has side curtain head airbags for both rows of seats while the M6
Convertible is equipped with roll-over protection. Positioned behind
the rear head restraints, these high-strength aluminum roll bars
extend automatically in a fraction of a second should there be a
danger of the car rolling over.

The BMW M5 and BMW M6 weight is managed by an intelligent mix of
materials containing a high proportion of high-strength and ultra-high
strength steel, as well as aluminum. The hood and doors of the new BMW
M5 and M6 are made of aluminum. With power-to-weight ratios just north
of 7lb/hp, the ultra-high-performance M5 Sedan and M6 models represent
a substantial step forward from their predecessor. The front fenders
on both models of the M6 are molded from thermoplastic. The M6 Coupe
has the signature Carbon Fiber Composite roof panel described earlier.
In addition, the trunk lids and – in the case of the BMW M6
Convertible – also the roof compartment cover, are made from the glass
fiber composite material SMC (Sheet Molding Compound).

The new 5th generation M5 Sedan and 3rd generation M6 Coupe are now
available along-side the new M6 Convertible at US BMW Centers.
Enthusiasts who want to explore the full potential of a new M5 or M6
should enroll in an M School at the BMW Performance Center in
Spartanburg, SC. For information, go to http://www.bmwusa.com/performancecenter.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – May 22, 2012… The iconic BMW M6
returns from a two year hiatus more powerful, more athletic, more
focused, more luxurious and more efficient than ever before. Since the
“M6” badge was first placed on a BMW back in 1987, this iconic model
has exemplified the luxury and style of a flagship BMW coupe combined
with true super-car performance. Now, in its 3rd generation, the
all-new BMW M6 will again be offered as a 4-seat Coupe and Convertible.

The new 2012 BMW M6 Convertible will be the first to
arrive in US BMW Center showrooms in June 2012 with an MSRP starting
at $113,995. The BMW M6 Coupe will arrive at US BMW Centers in the
late Summer of 2012 as a 2013 model with an MSRP
starting at $106,995. Both prices include $895 destination and handling.

Like its sedan brother, the M5, the new M6 models are
high-performance sports cars whose exceptional dynamic potential is
geared squarely towards the demands of track use. The M6 Convertible
will sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds while the M6 Coupe needs
just 4.1 seconds. At the same time, the M6 sets new benchmarks in
daily driving comfort, innovative features and fuel efficiency. In
fact the M6 Convertible boasts EPA estimates of 14 mpg city/ 20 mpg
highway/ 16 mpg combined, a 23% improvement over its predecessor.

In order to achieve these lofty performance goals, the new BMW M6
Coupe and Convertible share the most powerful engine ever fitted in a
series-produced model from BMW M GmbH mated to a high-torque 7-speed
M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT). An innovative Active M
Differential optimizes power transfer between the rear wheels. This
drivetrain, combined with extensive chassis and suspension upgrades
ensure that the engine’s performance can be transferred to the ground.

At the same time, fuel consumption in the M6
Convertible has been reduced by 23%, based on EPA mileage estimates.
Combined with a 14% larger fuel tank the result is a highway range of
422 miles, a stunning 34% improvement. EPA estimates for the M6 Coupe
will be available closer to that model’s on-sale date.

To achieve the performance levels demanded by the M6, the engineers
at BMW M started with the proven BMW M developed V8 engine from the
BMW X5 M - X6 M (internally known as the S63) and further developed it
for its duty in the latest M5 and M6 models. Internally designated as
the S63Tü, this new engine uses similar M Twin Power technology
combined with the reverse flow V8 layout. The result is that the
high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology lends a whole
new intensity to the powerful thrust at higher rev ranges for which
M cars are known. The 4.4-liter engine develops a peak output of
560 hp (412 kW) at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm (versus 555 hp at 6,000 rpm for
the S63), while its maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) is on tap
between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm (versus 500 lb-ft from 1,500 to 5650 rpm
for the S63). The rev limiter intervenes at 7,200 rpm (up 200 rpm from
the S63 engine). The rev band, which offers extremely dynamic
acceleration between peak torque and the availability of maximum
output, is therefore almost three times as wide as that of the V10
engine in the previous generation M6.

As in the V-8 engine of the X5 M, the two twin-scroll turbochargers
are placed (along with the catalytic converters) in the V-space
between the two cylinder banks in a reverse flow layout. This layout
results in an unusually compact engine where the intake is moved
outboard and the exhaust inboard – the opposite of conventional

The patented cross-bank exhaust manifold, first introduced in the S63
engine of the X5 M is also employed in the S63Tü.

Finally, the S63Tü uses a maximum boost pressure
of 1.5 bar (21.7 psi) versus 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) for the S63 engine.

BMW’s efficient High Precision direct fuel injection also plays a
major role in this engine’s combination of high performance and fuel
efficiency. High Precision direct fuel injection ensures an extremely
precise supply of fuel to the combustion chambers. Injectors
positioned centrally between the valves within immediate range of the
spark plugs spray the fuel into the combustion chambers with maximum
pressure of 200 bar (nearly 3000 psi), providing smooth and clean
combustion. Innovative solenoid valve injectors in the new BMW M6
engine use multiple injections per combustion cycle to achieve an
extremely precise mixture preparation.

Double VANOS [1]
infinitely-variable valve timing system which optimizes the engine’s
efficiency and generates high torque at low engine revs. In addition,
a volume-controlled oil pump and a range of other EfficientDynamics
measures deliver an extra boost to efficiency. The new BMW M6 features
both Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start-Stop function, which
automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a stop.

The instant power delivery and sustained thrust of the M TwinPower
Turbo V8 results in acceleration from 0– 60 mph in 4.1 seconds for the
Coupe and 4.2 seconds for the Convertible. Top speed of both models is
electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). While the engine’s
output has increased by around 10% and maximum torque is up by more
than 30%, the new BMW M6 models consume roughly 23% less fuel, based
on EPA mileage estimates, and have substantially higher range than
their predecessors.

M TwinPower Turbo Technology also shapes the development of the V8
engine’s soundtrack. The concept of crossover exhaust manifolds plays
a key role in delivering a multi-layered collage of sound. The
twin-tailpipe exhaust system of the new BMW M6 runs largely in a
straight line and has a large cross section.

The M DCT with
Drivelogic System developed especially for the new M6 has been tuned
to the performance characteristics of the engine. It delivers
exceptionally fast and clean gear changes in both automatic mode (D)
and manual mode (S).

Alternatively, the driver can also change gears
manually using the shift paddles on the newly developed M leather
steering wheel, complete with multifunction buttons and gearshift
paddles. In typical M configuration, the driver pulls the right-hand
paddle to shift up and the left-hand paddle to shift down. The new M
steering wheel stands out with its smaller rim diameter and a design
that borrows from the double-spoke design of the M light-alloy wheels.

M DCT with Drivelogic offers three shift programs in both automatic
and manual mode. The driver selects his/her desired mode using the
rocker switch positioned immediately below the shift lever on the
center console. The D1 program is selected automatically when the
engine is started, tailoring gear selection to deliver the most
efficient possible driving style. D2 mode supports laid-back cruising
with gear changes carried out according to engine revs and load. And,
to promote a sporty driving style laced with dynamic acceleration,
shift times in D3 mode are set up to delay gear changes until the
engine has climbed higher up the rev range.

When the stability control system is switched off, Launch Control
allows the driver to achieve maximum acceleration from a standstill as
permitted by conditions. During Launch Control acceleration, each gear
shift takes place automatically and at the optimum engine speed.

Active M Differential.

The Active M Differential in the new M6 is an electronically
controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential programmed to
optimize traction, stability and sporting character.

It then uses this information to
calculate the locking force required to deliver optimum traction and
stability. The data recorded by DSC sensors is also passed on if the
stability control system is in MDM mode or is switched off. The
locking force within the differential can be varied continuously
between 0 and 100%. The ABS system retains full functionality in all situations.

The
degree of lock is adjusted as required within a fraction of a second,
enabling wheel spin to be prevented on slippery surfaces, when the
right and left rear wheel have widely differing friction coefficients
and in tight corners. Optimizing traction in this way also provides
unbeatable driving stability in challenging conditions and allows
impressive acceleration out of corners. The Active M Differential can
also unlock just as quickly to stabilize the car off-throttle.

M-Specific Chassis

Each component in the suspension and chassis of the new M6 has been
developed based on the extensive race expertise of BMW M engineers.
The integral rear axle subframe in the M6 is rigidly bolted to the
body to maximize body rigidity and handling precision. Reinforced
chassis mountings at the front and rear axles ensure that dynamic
forces are passed through to the body structure. Specially tuned axle
kinematics and newly developed forged aluminum suspension components
boasting impressive strength and minimized weight meet both the
requirements of everyday road driving and the specialized demands of
track use. The result is that the BMW M6 continues the BMW M tradition
of engineering a chassis that is “faster than the engine”. As with
every BMW M car, the engineers carried out the fine-tuning during
extensive testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) electronically controlled shock
absorbers are standard on the new BMW M6. DDC uses electro-hydraulic
damping force adjustment to provide a set-up suited to the driving
situation and the wishes of the driver. The shock settings can be
adjusted at the touch of a button. In “Comfort” mode, the dampers
respond adaptively to the condition of the road surface and the
driver’s style. “Sport” mode activates a noticeably stiffer damper
set-up, while “Sport Plus” allows further stiffening of the suspension
to achieve maximum longitudinal and lateral acceleration in
ultra-dynamic driving situations.

The new BMW M6 also uses BMW’s most advanced Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that includes
Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake
Assistant, brake fade compensation, a Brake Drying function and
Start-off Assistant.

The high-performance braking system of the new BMW M6 guarantees
outstanding stopping power matching the overall performance of the
car. The typical BMW M compound rotors have been further improved for
the new M6. These rotors thermally separate the central hub
(constructed of aluminum) and the vented/cross drilled cast iron
rotors. As a result, the rotors are free to expand and contract
without warping. The diameter of the brake rotors is 15.7 inches (400
mm) at the front and 15.6 inches (396 mm) at the rear. The six-piston
fixed calipers are radially bolted to the pivot bearing and are
painted dark blue metallic complete with the M logo. Together, the
brake system has been tested to provide exceptional performance, fade
resistance and pedal feel.

The new BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible will be the first cars in the
history of BMW M to be offered with optional M Carbon-Ceramic brakes
(in conjunction with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels as of July 2012
production). These new brakes are without parallel and take the cars
stopping power to another new level – especially at the race track.
The brake rotors measure 16.1 inches (410 mm) in diameter at the front
and 15.6 inches (396 mm) at the rear. Made from a carbon-fiber ceramic
compound, the rotors boast even greater resistance to heat combined
with significantly reduced rotating masses. The M Carbon-Ceramic
brakes are 42.8 lb (19.4 kg) lighter than the standard brakes, yet the
innovative material also displays exceptional resistance to wear, and
the operating life of the rotors is many times that of conventional
equivalents. The optional M Carbon-Ceramic system also sees six-piston
fixed radial calipers at the front teamed with single-piston floating
calipers at the rear. The M Carbon-Ceramic system can be easily
identified through the wheels by the special gold-colored calipers.

The standard M6 wheel and tire combination is a 19 inch M specific
light alloy wheels fitted with 265/40 R19 ultra-high performance
summer tires in the front and 295/35 R 19 tires at the rear. 20 inch
forged M light-alloy wheels can be ordered as an option.

Design: athletic aura, powerfully taut surfaces, elegant
lines.

Their
three-dimensional shape, wide chrome frames and indicator bars – which
bear the M logo – give them an extremely deep-set look. In tune with
the wider wheel arches, the character lines around the gills are
suitably prominent. Eye-catching creases on the model-specific side
skirts sweep upwards, diverting the gaze to the rear wheels. The new
BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible are fitted with standard 19-inch M
light-alloy wheels. These forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in
a two-tone finish. The optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels,
meanwhile, hint at reduced weight with their five slender
double-spokes and allow a clear line of sight through to the powerful
brake system.

However, the clearest
pointer to the unmistakable identity of these two high-performance
sports cars are the familiar M quad exhaust tailpipes positioned on
either side of the diffuser integrated into the lower area of the rear fascia.

Dynamic contours, lightweight material: the Carbon Fiber
Composite roof of the BMW M6 Coupe.

Like its predecessor, the roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe is molded from
natural color Carbon Fiber Composite. The dark color of the roof gives
the Coupe’s silhouette a longer look, which is further emphasized by
the dynamic longitudinal character lines unique to the M6 Coupe. The
use of the lightweight material for the roof allows the car’s center
of gravity to be lowered, enhancing agility. The standard BMW
Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim surrounds the side windows (or
the waistline in the case of the BMW M6 Convertible) and the base and
lower section of the aerodynamically optimized M exterior mirror caps.

The elegant yet aggressive look of the BMW M6 Convertible is
underlined by the flying buttress architecture of the high-quality
soft-top roof. Projecting into the rear section, the buttresses
accentuate the car’s dynamically sweeping silhouette. The heated,
vertical glass rear window retracts independently of the soft-top
itself. The automatic opening and closing process for the roof can be
activated both at a standstill and while on the move at speeds of up
to 25 mph (40 km/h). The standard Comfort Access system allows the
roof to be opened or closed by pressing the remote control button on
the car key. It takes the roof 19 seconds to open and 24 seconds to
close again.

Customers can chose from one non-metallic and eight metallic shades
(including four exclusive M finishes) for the exterior paintwork of
both models. The soft-top for the new BMW M6 Convertible is available
in Black and Beige, or – as an option – in Anthracite Silver effect.

M-specific cockpit design: flawless car control,
made-to-measure luxury.

The interior of the new BMW M6 brings together the incomparable
combination of the driver-oriented cockpit design of a sports car with
the spaciousness and luxurious feel of a premium automobile. Newly
developed M sports seats, Merino extended leather upholstery, door
sills with “M6” lettering, an M driver’s footrest, exclusive carbon
fiber interior trim and the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite
are all standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with a
10.2-inch Control Display.

On the left-hand steering wheel spoke, the driver has two M Drive
buttons which can be used to call up a pre-configured setup for the
car. For example, the driver can save a sporty configuration on the
“M1” button and a track focused setup (with all driver aids shut off)
on the “M2” button. The set-up selected will remain activated until it
is either cancelled by pressing the button again or the driver
switches to another M Drive setting. Once the system has been switched
off – as when the engine is started – it reverts back to a default
configuration focusing on efficiency and ride comfort.

The M Drive system in the new BMW M6 allows the driver to adjust no
fewer than six parameters: the engine management, the response of the
Servotronic steering system, the M DCT shift program, the DSC mode,
the responses of DDC and the information in the Head-Up Display. The
desired settings can be configured in any combination via the iDrive
menu or by using the M Drive select buttons on the center console to
set the configuration followed by pressing and holding one of the two
M Drive buttons for a few seconds (until the configuration is stored).
For safety reasons, a setup involving setting MDM mode or “DSC Off”
requires confirmation from the driver – by pressing the M Drive button
again – before it can be activated. The setup configuration selected
is shown by a “M1” or “M2” symbol displayed in the instrument cluster.

Body Structure and Safety

The hallmark M handling and occupant protection both are made
possible due to the extraordinary strength of the BMW M6 Coupe and
Convertible body structures. Incredibly, durable load-bearing
structures and precisely defined deformation zones keep the forces
released in a collision away from the extremely stiff passenger
compartment. The new BMW M6 models include front and side airbags,
three-point inertial reel seat belts on all seats, front belt force
limiters, seat belt tensioners, and ISOFIX child seat attachments in
the rear all as standard equipment. The M6 Coupe also has side curtain
head airbags for both rows of seats while the M6 Convertible is
equipped with roll-over protection. Positioned behind the rear head
restraints, these high-strength aluminum roll bars extend
automatically in a fraction of a second should there be a danger of
the car rolling over.

The BMW M6 weight is minimized by an intelligent mix of materials
containing a high proportion of high-tensile and ultra-high tensile
steel, as well as aluminum. The hood and doors of the new BMW M6
models are made of aluminum. The front fenders on both models are
molded from thermoplastic. The Coupe has the unique Carbon Fiber
Composite roof panel described earlier. In addition, the trunk lids
and – in the case of the BMW M6 Convertible – also the roof
compartment cover, are made from the glass fiber composite material
SMC (Sheet Molding Compound). With a power-to-weight ratio of 7.3lb/hp
for the Coupe and 7.7lb/hp for the Convertible, both models represent
a substantial step forward from their predecessors.

The new 2012 BMW M6 Convertible will be the first to reach US BMW
Center showrooms in June 2012. The BMW M6 Coupe will arrive at US BMW
Centers in the late Summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. US Pricing,
technical specification, EPA mileage ratings (for the M6 Convertible),
as well as standard and optional equipment for both models are
available now at www.bmwusanew.com. EPA mileage
estimates for the M6 Coupe will be available closer to that model’s
on-sale date.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – Embargo: February 11, 2012 6:00PM EST…
The iconic M6 returns from a two year hiatus more powerful,
more athletic, more focused, more luxurious and more efficient than
ever before. Since the “M6” badge was first placed on a BMW back in
1987, this iconic model has exemplified the luxury and daily usability
of a top range BMW coupe combined with true super-car performance.
Now, in its 3rd generation, the all-new BMW M6 will again be offered
as a 4-seat Coupe and Convertible.

The new 2012 BMW M6 Convertible will be the first to arrive in US BMW
Center showrooms in June 2012. The BMW M6 Coupe will arrive at US BMW
Centers in the late Summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. US Pricing,
technical specification, EPA mileage ratings, standard and optional
equipment will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

Like its sedan brother the M5, the new M6 models are high-performance
sports cars whose exceptional dynamic potential is geared squarely
towards the demands of track use. At the same time, the M6 sets new
benchmarks in daily driving comfort, innovative features and fuel efficiency.

Differential which optimizes power transfer between the rear wheels.

At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2
are expected to be reduced by approximately 30%.

To achieve the performance levels demanded by the M6, the engineers
at BMW M started with the proven BMW M developed V8 engine from the
BMW X5 M - X6 M (internally known as the S63) and further developed it
for its duty in the latest M5 and M6 models. Internally designated as
the S63Tü this new engine uses similar M Twin Power technology
combined with the reverse flow V8 layout.

The patented cross-bank exhaust manifold, first introduced in the S63
engine of the X5 M is also employed in the S63Tü.

Finally, the S63Tü uses a maximum boost pressure
of 1.5 bar (21.7 psi) versus 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) for the S63 engine.

Double VANOS [1]
infinitely-variable valve timing system which optimizes the engine’s
efficiency and generates high torque at low engine revs. In addition,
a volume-controlled oil pump and a range of other EfficientDynamics
measures deliver an extra boost to efficiency. The new BMW M6 features
both Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start-Stop function, which
automatically switches off the engine when the car comes to a stop.

The engine’s exhilarating thrust gives the new BMW M6 models
impressive acceleration. The instant power delivery and sustained
thrust of the engine results in an acceleration of 0– 62 mph (0-100
km/h) in 4.2 seconds for the Coupe and 4.3 seconds for the
Convertible. The sprint from 0–124 mph (0-200 km/h) takes only
12.6 seconds for the Coupe and 13.1 for the Convertible. The top speed
of both models is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). While
the engine’s output has increased by around 10% and maximum torque is
up by more than 30%, the new BMW M6 models consume roughly 30% less
fuel and have substantially higher range than their predecessors.

The M DCT with
Drivelogic System developed especially for the new M6 has been tuned
to the performance characteristics of the engine. It delivers
exceptionally fast and clean gear changes in both automatic mode (D)
and manual mode (S).

Alternatively, the driver can also change gears
manually using the shift paddles on the newly developed M leather
steering wheel, complete with multifunction buttons and gearshift

When the stability control system is switched off, Launch Control
allows the driver to achieve maximum acceleration from a standstill as
permitted by conditions. During Launch Control acceleration, each gear
shift takes place automatically and at the optimum engine speed.

Active M Differential.

The Active M Differential in the new M6 is an electronically
controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential programmed to
optimize traction, stability and sporting character.

It then uses this information to
calculate the locking force required to deliver optimum traction and
stability. The data recorded by DSC sensors is also passed on if the
stability control system is in MDM mode or is switched off. The
locking force within the differential can be varied continuously
between 0 and 100%. The ABS system retains full functionality in all situations.

The
degree of lock is adjusted as required within a fraction of a second,
enabling wheel spin to be prevented on slippery surfaces, when the
right and left rear wheel have widely differing friction coefficients
and in tight corners.

The new BMW M6 also uses BMW’s most advanced Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that includes
Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake
Assistant, brake fade compensation, a Brake Drying function and
Start-off Assistant.

Design: athletic aura, powerfully taut surfaces, elegant
lines.

Their
three-dimensional shape, wide chrome frames and indicator bars – which
bear the M logo – give them an extremely deep-set look. In tune with
the wider wheel arches, the character lines around the gills are
suitably prominent. Eye-catching creases on the model-specific side
skirts sweep upwards, diverting the gaze to the rear wheels. The new
BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible are fitted with standard 19-inch M
light-alloy wheels. These forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in
a two-tone finish. The optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels,
meanwhile, hint at reduced weight with their five slender
double-spokes and allow a clear line of sight through to the powerful
brake system.

The soft-top for the new BMW M6 Convertible is available
in Black and Beige, or – as an option – in Anthracite Silver effect.

M-specific cockpit design: flawless car control,
made-to-measure luxury.

The interior of the new BMW M6 brings together the incomparable
combination of a driver-oriented cockpit design of a sports car, the
spaciousness and luxurious feel of a premium automobile. Newly
developed M sports seats, Merino extended leather upholstery, door
sills with “M6” lettering, an M driver’s footrest, exclusive carbon
fiber interior trim and the BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite
are all standard equipment, as is the iDrive control system with a
10.2-inch Control Display.

On the left-hand steering wheel spoke, the driver has two M Drive
buttons which can be used to call up a pre-configured setup for the

US Pricing,
technical specification, EPA mileage ratings, standard and optional
equipment will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

BMW M announces the arrival of the
ultimate 2+2, open air driving experience - the new BMW M6 Convertible. Like
its Coupe stablemate, the M6 Convertible combines a 500 horsepower V10 and the
seven-speed Sequential M Gearbox with Drivelogic. It also combines the luxury
and elegance of the 6 Series Convertible with true super-car performance - 0 -
60 mph in about 4.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.
With production beginning this September, the 2007 M6 Convertible will begin
arriving in U.S. showrooms this fall.

The M6 Convertible has all of the performance capabilities of the M6 Coupe in
addition to the styling cues that clearly identify this car as the work of BMW
M - the aggressive and functional front air dam, the light and open 19-inch
wheels that showcase the large compound/cross-drilled brakes as well as the
tail-end treatment featuring air-diffuser and four round tailpipes. It
combines it with the elegance and functionality of the 6 Series Convertible -
the luxurious 2+2 seating, the generous trunk and the multi-layered soft-top.
This rare combination will provide the open-air enthusiast with one of the most
unique driving experiences on the road.

It is a true luxury car, but as a true product of BMW M, its reflexes were
honed on the race track.

The 500 hp, V10, 7-speed SMG, 2+2 Convertible

The M6 Convertible takes full advantage of the high-revving, 500 hp BMW V10
engine. With a redline in excess of 8,000 rpm, this engine delivers its power
in a way that feels like nothing else. With its 5.0-liter capacity, this
normally aspirated engine delivers a genuine 100 hp/liter, once exclusive
racecar territory. This engine combines state-of-the-art electronics,
including double-VANOS variable valve timing, with technology straight from
motorsports like ten individual throttle butterflies.

The driver may not need all the power of the V10 in all situations. In city
traffic or while commuting, for example, the comfort-oriented P400 setting may
suit. P400 is automatically activated when the engine is first started and
offers, as the name implies, 400 horsepower. All the driver has to do to call
up the full 500 hp is push the power button. A P500 sport mode is also
available for even more dynamic response.

In order to take full advantage of the available power, the M6 Convertible
comes standard with the seven-speed Sequential M Gearbox with Drivelogic. The
unique SMG not only enables the driver to take full advantage of the
performance potential but it also offers maximum flexibility as well.

It offers the flexibility of shifting from either the paddles mounted behind
the steering wheel or the console mounted shift lever. It also offers the
flexibility, through Drivelogic, of 11 different shift modes - six for the
manual function (S-mode) and five for the automated mode (D-mode). Drivelogic
gives the driver the flexibility to tailor shifting characteristics to suit the
driving style of the moment.

The result is 0 - 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds and a top-speed electronically
limited to 155 mph. It is a true testament to the chassis engineers at BMW M
that the M6 Convertible can lap the famous Nordschleife at the Nurburgring
nearly as fast as the M6 Coupe. It accomplishes this without sacrificing
comfort thanks to a specially tuned suspension featuring Electronic Damping
Control. EDC not only offers the driver the choice of three settings ranging
from Sport to Comfort, but it also constantly adjusts the shock-absorber
firmness to the given driving conditions.

Variable M Differential Lock and DSC with M Dynamic mode

The variable, speed-sensing M Differential Lock gives the M6 Convertible
outstanding traction in all driving conditions, particularly when accelerating
out of a bend. Even in the most demanding situations, this intelligent
differential provides a decisive edge in traction. This is especially
beneficial when accelerating with the drive wheels on surfaces of varying
coefficients of friction. Here, the M Differential Lock immediately builds
locking force with the increasing difference in speed between the drive
wheels. Power is then able to get to the drive wheel with greater traction.

Befitting its character the BMW M6 Convertible offers a special version of
BMW's Dynamic Stability Control. In addition to the normal DSC mode, there is
the M Dynamic Mode. The M Dynamic Mode retains all the functionality of DSC
but waits for a higher threshold of wheel slip before engaging. As with all
BMWs, the driver has the option of switching it off completely.

High-performance brakes have their roots in motorsport

Reflecting the car's enormous performance potential, the BMW M6 Convertible
offers braking performance to match. Large 14.7-inch front and 14.6-inch rear
brakes feature weight-optimized cross-drilled, compound rotors. These ensure
not only outstanding stopping performance but also offer greater resistance to
the effects of heat under extreme conditions. Tests show stopping distances of
just under 118 feet from 62 mph and less than 460 feet from 124 mph.

Braking safety is aided further by BMW's two-stage Adaptive Brakelight
technology. Under hard braking, or whenever the ABS is engaged, the taillights
illuminate in tandem with the brake lights and at the same intensity, giving
following drivers a much bolder warning which helps them to react more quickly.

Unique multi-layered softop provides the profile of a Coupe

The soft-top on the M6 Convertible is made up of three layers. A special noise
and heat insulating layer of polyurethane (PUR) foam is held between the
weather-proof outer layer and the interior roof lining. Its unique fin-roof
look gives the M6 Convertible the same dynamic profile of the M6 Coupe. The
C-pillar is characterized by the traditional Hofmeister kink.

Although the roof covers a generous passenger compartment, it folds into
compact dimensions. The vertical rear window requires very little storage
space and can be raised or lowered independently of the roof. It can be
lowered with the top up to provide additional ventilation and can be raised
with the top down to act as a wind deflector. The roof can be raised or
lowered while the car is traveling up to 20 mph. The top can be ordered in
either black or grey.

A luxurious environment tailored to the driving enthusiast

The interior of the BMW M6 Convertible retains the luxurious look and feel of
the 650i Convertible and has been enhanced with special touches that
distinguish it as a product from BMW M.

Immediately apparent will be the exclusive seams on all the seats as well as
the M logos in the headrests. Next will be the shift paddles and shift lever
that are unique to the Sequential M Gearbox. The white-on-black instruments
feature the traditional BMW M red indicator needles.

The optional Head-Up Display presents essential information directly in the
driver's field of vision. This can include directional information from the
standard on-board navigation system. It also offers the choice of a special M
display that includes road speed, transmission gear and an engine speed graphic.

Another unique element that will be instantly apparent to the driver is the
button on the steering wheel marked "M". The driver is able to adjust a
variety of settings in the M6 Convertible including:

* Engine power: P400, P500 or P500 Sport

* SMG Drivelogic: One of six Sequential or five Drive modes

* Electronic Damping Control: Normal, Comfort or Sport

* Dynamic Stability Control: Normal, M Dynamic mode or off completely

* The Head-up Display: Standard display or MView

Using iDrive, the driver can select a preferred setting for each of these in
the MDrive display. Then with a simple touch of the M button on the steering
wheel, all the preferred settings are instantly engaged offering a custom
tailored driving experience.

The interior has been designed for easy access to the rear seats. In addition
to the room for passengers, the M6 Convertible provides plenty of room for
their luggage. The flexible tray for the convertible top can be folded out of
the way when the top is up in order to create additional luggage space. There
is room for one large plus one small hard-shell case. Alternatively there is
room for two 46-inch golf bags with enough room left for a medium-sized hard
shell case.

The BMW M6 Convertible will be available in standard BMW colors such as Black
Sapphire, Silver Grey Metallic, Monaco Blue and Stratus Grey. It will also be
offered in special M colors such as Indianapolis Red, Interlagos Blue,
Silverstone and Sepang Bronze. The Merino Leather interior will be offered in a
choice of three standard colors: Black, Silverstone and Sepang Bronze. Full
leather is available as an option in the three standard colors as well as
Indianapolis Red and Portland Brown. The interior may be further accented with
the choice of optional carbon fiber trim.

Standard and optional features suit such an exclusive car

The BMW M6 Convertible will retail for $105,095 (including destination charges)
and befitting the exclusive nature of the M6 Convertible, the list of standard
features includes auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, Park Distance
Control, Adaptive Xenon Headlights, Bluetooth hands-free phone interface,
On-board Navigation system with real-time traffic and Logic7 sound system.
Also included is BMW Assist for four full years and enrollment in an exclusive
one-day M driver training course at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg,
SC. The standard Logic7 sound system with surround sound simulation may be
enhanced with optional Sirius Satellite Radio. The M6 Convertible owner can
also travel with his or her complete music library thanks to the
center-installed BMW interface for iPod. Other options include the Head-up
Display and BMW Comfort Access.

Press Contact: Thomas Plucinsky
Tel: +1-201-307-3701
E-mail: thomas.plucinsky@bmwna.com

Press Release,M6,Product,BMW M

The M6 is on schedule to come to the U.S. two years after the introduction of the 645Ci. It has been 15 years since the M6 last graced these shores. With the new M6, which is based on the new 6 Series, the engineers from BMW M GmbH have created a truly awe inspiring sports coupe. The new M6 shares its drivetrain with the recently introduced M5. The new V10 produces 507 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque by European measure. This new engine is mated to a seven-speed SMG transmission. In the tradition of BMW M, the chassis has been engineered to keep up with the power while the exterior treatment is subtle, yet distinctive. In the interest of improved responsiveness, the M6 takes the lightweight technology of the 645Ci to an even higher level. 1. World Debut of the new BMW M6. (Short Version) 3 2. The new V10 Power Unit in the BMW M6: A Masterpiece in Engine Construction. 11 3. The Seven-Speed SMG Gearbox: Shifting Gears like in Formula 1. 22 4. The Chassis and Suspension of the BMW M6: Agile, Fast, Safe. 26 5. Body, Design, Equipment: Light and Safe, Sporting and Luxurious. 33 6. Specifications. 42

1. World Debut of the new BMW M6.
(Short Version)

Launching the new M6, BMW M GmbH is proudly presenting the most dynamic and
sporting rendition of the 6 Series Luxury Coupé. This makes BMW's large Coupé
in the guise of the M6 one of the most beautiful cars in the world - and at the
same time the most sophisticated and powerful 6 Series there has ever been:
five litres engine capacity, 10 cylinders,
507 bhp (373 kW), 520 Newton-metres (383 lb-ft) maximum torque,
and engine speed beyond the 8,000 rpm limit.

Together with the outstanding, uncompromising suspension designed and built
exclusively for sporting performance, this supreme power unit gives
the BMW M6 all the qualities of a thoroughbred supersports. But unlike its
competitors usually offering only two seats, the BMW M6 comes with all
the space and comfort of a typical 2+2-seater, plus the luxurious features of
a typical luxury performance BMW.

The success principle: True power in a discreet package.
The BMW M6 shares its supreme power unit with the BMW M5. Ever since being
introduced in the M5, this engine has been acknowledged as the absolute
benchmark, just as the M5 is the very epitome of the Sports Saloon.

Now, introducing even more superior performance data, the BMW M6 sets
a new standard in the segment of high-performance 2+2-seater luxury sports
cars. Creating this unique model, the engineers at BMW M GmbH have focused not
only on the sheer power of the engine, but also on the weight of the body and,
as a result, the mass to be accelerated as quickly as possible on the road.
Reducing weight to a sensible minimum, the M6 comes with all the driving
dynamics required for the race track, while in terms of motoring comfort and
equipment it is simply ideal for all roads the world over. Not least, the body
design of the BMW M6 modified only discreetly versus the elegant look of the
BMW Coupé comes with all the understatement so characteristic of all M Models
as their elementary feature.

Interacting with the seven-speed SMG transmission, the magnificent chassis and
suspension, the elegant body in innovative lightweight technology, as well as
the wide range of luxury equipment, the ten-cylinder high-speed engine gives
the customer a brand-new dimension in motoring performance.
It is indeed difficult to find any genuine competitors to the M6, since all
other more or less comparable cars are either all-out supersports or sports
saloons far inferior in terms of agility. So given the car's innovative drive
concept, a power-to-weight ratio even better than on the M5, as well as unique
handling - and all this with all the everyday driving qualities of a large
coupé - the engineers at BMW M GmbH rightly claim that the new BMW M6 truly
comes in a class of its own.

V10 power unit running at racing speeds.
Sharing BMW's V10 power unit, the M5 and M6 come with one of the rare
high-speed engines in regular saloon and coupé production. Within the
entire BMW family, the V10 is indeed the most demanding engine in technical
terms and, without doubt, the top performer in every respect.

Power and performance, however, are not everything. Rather, what really counts
is a car's acceleration and driving dynamics on the road. And this depends,
first, on the weight of a car and, second, on the thrust and power which
actually goes to the drive wheels - which, in turn, is a result of engine
torque and the overall transmission ratio. BMW's high-speed engine concept
allows an optimum gearbox and final drive transmission ratio in all cases, thus
guaranteeing impressive thrust and momentum on the road at all times.

Press Contact: Thomas Plucinsky
Tel: +1-201-307-3701
E-mail: thomas.plucinsky@bmwna.com

Press Kit,M6,Product,BMW M
