The new 2027 BMW M2 with M xDrive sees BMW M GmbH expanding the breadth of the M2 model line-up. Here, the all-wheel-drive system M xDrive will be available for the compact high-performance sports car for the first time. M xDrive splits the power developed by the 473 hp six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology between the front and rear axles according to the situation at hand. Also in play is the Active M Differential, which distributes drive fully variably between the rear wheels as required, maximizing traction and delivering the driving dynamics normally associated with a rear-wheel drive model.

These enhanced traction levels increase the M2’s agility, dynamism, and directional stability – and improves acceleration. The new BMW M2 with M xDrive therefore offers drivers the inimitable M feeling through all four seasons of the year, in almost any road conditions and in all weathers – without any trade-off in performance. The M2 showcases its optimized traction (which is also the product of specially developed chassis tuning) with sublime assurance in fluctuating grip conditions such as ice and snow as well as on the track.

The market launch of the BMW M2 with M xDrive will begin in late summer 2026.

Superior traction and further enhanced dynamics thanks to M xDrive and Active M Differential. 

The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case to ensure fully variable and super-smooth division of the engine’s power between the front and rear wheels of the new BMW M2 with M xDrive. The system’s rear-wheel bias fits the familiar M blueprint. In normal driving, power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Only when they cannot feed any more power to the road does the all-wheel-drive system bring the front wheels into play. 

M xDrive works in tandem with the Active M Differential including M-specific traction control and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). Together, they adapt the car’s responses precisely to the situation in order to deliver a driving experience of unsurpassed dynamism with a noticeable increase in directional stability and traction.

The transfer case features a model-specific control unit and integrated wheel slip limitation. This allows it to compensate for any differences in rotational speed between the front and rear wheels. It can do this without having to involve the central DSC management, which makes the process extremely quick and further intensifies the M-typical sense of unshakable poise in highly dynamic driving situations.   

The M xDrive system’s responses can be configured via the M Setup menu. This means the driver can adapt the characteristics and performance attributes of the all-wheel drive system to both the driving situation at hand and their personal preferences. One of the options the driver can select is 2WD mode with DSC deactivated, whereby torque is sent to the rear wheels only. This unlocks a driving experience of remarkable purity.

The BMW M2 with M xDrive is fitted as standard with an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which ensures the engine’s power is harnessed to maximum dynamic effect. Standard M alloy wheels (19-inch at the front axle, 20-inch at the rear) transfer the power onto the road surface. Track tires can be specified as an option.

Optimum stopping power on road and track is provided by M Compound brakes with six-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston callipers at the rear.

The combination of the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and Active M Differential gives the new BMW M2 with M xDrive further improved sprinting power. Indeed, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than its sister model with pure rear-wheel-drive. Using a one-foot rollout drops that time to just 3.3 seconds. The BMW M2 with M xDrive reaches the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark from rest in 12.8 seconds – or 12.5 seconds with the one-foot rollout method. The sprint from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) is covered in 3.7 seconds. The M2 with M xDrive has a limited top speed of 155 mph, rising to 177 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified.

BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue is available for a BMW M2 model for the first time. 

The selection of exterior colors customers can choose from includes five metallic and three solid variants, plus six options from the BMW Individual range. For example, the BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue special paint finish will be available for a M2 for the first time, accentuating the visually expressive exterior design of the BMW M2 with M xDrive to striking effect.  

The BMW M2: a successful model, built in Mexico. 

The BMW M2 was the best-selling high performance model from BMW M GmbH in 2025. The new BMW M2 with M xDrive – like the other M2 models – will be built at BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico. Production will begin in August 2026.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 3, 2025… The new BMW M2 CS sets a new benchmark on the legendary Nordschleife racetrack of the Nürburgring on 11 April 2025. Driven by BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger, it completed the 12.9-mile Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in 7:25.5, beating the previous best time for compact cars by eight seconds. This record-setting BMW M2 CS not only raises the bar in the compact car class, but also further solidifies BMW M's reputation as a manufacturer of high-performance vehicles that excel both on the road and on the racetrack.

The continuation of a success story. 

The previous best time for a BMW M2 model was set by Weidinger in April 2023, when he completed the course in 7:38.7. Two years later, he beat this time by 13 seconds, breaking the class record of 7:30 for the first time. With the newly set best time of 7:25.5, the BMW M2 CS demonstrates its outstanding performance as well as the innovative power and engineering skills of BMW M GmbH.

Previous record runs on the Nordschleife by the BMW M4 CS, the BMW M4 CSL, and the BMW M3 CS, all mid-range vehicles, achieved times under 7:30 minutes. The BMW M4 CSL also holds the best lap time ever recorded for a BMW production car, with an official, notarized time of 7:18.137.

The new BMW M2 CS is based on the second generation of the BMW M2 and builds on what is already an extraordinary level of performance. For example, the high-revving inline 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology develops an impressive 523 hp in the M2 CS – 50 more than in the standard BMW M2. The M2 CS sends its power to the rear wheels via a standard 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.

Intelligent lightweight design saves nearly 100 pounds.

With the M2 CS, BMW M has reduced the weight of the standard 8-speed Steptronic-equipped M2 by 97 pounds. This was achieved through judicious use of lightweight materials, such as exterior and interior components made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and fitting the M2 CS with forged M alloy wheels as standard.

Upgraded inline 6-cylinder engine brings significant increases in power and torque.

For duty in the BMW M2 CS, BMW M has upgraded the 3.0-liter S58 inline 6-cylinder engine found in the standard M2, intensfying an already exceptional performance experience, particularly in highly dynamic driving situations. Their work further sharpens the engine’s remarkable power characteristics and perfectly accentuates the linear power delivery – sustained into the higher reaches of the rev range – familiar in BMW M models. Compared to the standard BMW M2 with the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, maximum torque has been raised by 36 lb-ft to 479 and is available across a broad rev range – between 2,700 and 5,620 rpm. The engine produces its maximum power of 523 hp at 6,250 rpm and redlines at 7,200 rpm. And the accelerator mapping and response have been optimized in all drive modes to deliver seemingly instantaneous responses to the driver’s inputs.

Inspiring performance born from Motorsport.

This enhanced performance is achieved by modifying the engine management and provides further proof of the outstanding potential of the S58 6-cylinder engine developed by BMW M, which also serves as the basis for the power unit used in the BMW M4 GT3 EVO racing car. The engine’s M TwinPower Turbo technology comprises a pair of mono-scroll turbochargers, each feeding three cylinders, an indirect intercooler supplied by a low-temperature circuit, and an electronically controlled wastegate. The technology package also includes High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, and Double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing. The engine also has an array of details borrowed directly from racing design that contribute to its lightning-fast response, appetite for revs, and high-performance capability in track use. These details include an extremely rigid crankcase with a sleeve-free, closed-deck construction, a forged crankshaft with lightweight design, cylinder bores with a wire-arc sprayed iron coating, and a 3D-printed core for the cylinder head.

The M-specific cooling system ensures the powertrain components maintain an optimal operating temperature even under heavy loads, and the oil circuit is designed to handle extreme dynamic driving situations. A map-controlled oil pump ensures reliable oil supply even under extreme acceleration.

The engine sends its drive power to the rear wheels through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. The Drivelogic button integrated into the selector lever makes it possible to alter the transmission’s shift characteristics, with a choice of three clearly distinguishable settings. Both the selector lever in the latest M design and the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel enable the driver to change gears manually if desired.

Ferocious acceleration from a standstill and on the move.

A model-specific engine mounting with a higher spring rate makes for a more rigid connection of the drive unit to the structure of the BMW M2 CS. The extremely direct transmission of power to the drivetrain optimizes response. Thanks to the lightning-fast power delivery, in combination with the increased engine power and the reduction in weight, the BMW M2 CS is able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds – 0.2 seconds quicker than the standard Steptronic-equipped M2. The mid-range sprint from 50-75 mph takes 3.4 seconds. Top speed with the standard M Driver’s Package is electronically limited to 188 mph. The dynamic power delivery is backed by an emotionally rich engine note from the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps and four exhaust tips characteristic of M, which are finished in matte black on the BMW M2 CS.

Chassis and brakes optimized for the increased performance.

The chassis technology and braking system in the BMW M2 CS are precisely tailored to the improved performance characteristics of the engine and the specific weight balance of the M2 CS. The chassis has been lowered by 0.2 in and adapted specially for the CS with unique tuning of the springs, dampers, and chassis control systems. These modifications improve driving dynamics significantly in all scenarios – including under extremely hard driving. Indeed, the settings for the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and M Dynamic Mode have been optimized precisely to meet the demands of driving on a track. The standard Adaptive M Suspension has been given a revised, model-specific setup, as have the M Servotronic steering, M Sport differential, and the integrated braking system. Standard M Compound brakes with red calipers provide authoritative stopping power. M Carbon ceramic brakes with red brake cllipers are available as an option ($8,500). Standard equipment also includes CS-exclusive Style 827M forged alloy wheels with a double-spoke design and matte Gold Bronze finish. Measuring 19-inches at the front and 20-inches at the rear, the wheels are fitted as standard with high performance tires sized 275/35 ZR19 front and 285/30 ZR20 rear. Track tires and ultra-track tires are available optionally at no cost.

Lightweight carbon fiber components and CS-exclusive details.

The exterior of the BMW M2 CS underscores its high performance mission with CFRP components and exclusive details that set it apart. It boasts the signature M exterior mirror caps, a standard M Carbon roof, and a CS-specific rear diffuser, all crafted from exposed carbon fiber. Adding to the sporty and dynamic appearance are a matte black front splitter and a unique black BMW M kidney grille with optimized air inlets. The lightweight CFRP trunk lid with integrated ducktail spoiler is emblazoned with a striking “M2 CS” logo featuring a bold red border.

Four colors are available for the exterior finish of the new BMW M2 CS: Black Sapphire metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, and Portimao Blue metallic are available at no extra cost, and BMW Individual Velvet Blue metallic is optionally available at a price of $3,000. Adaptive LED Headlights with Shadowline dark inlays are also standard.

Carbon fiber accents and a clear Motorsport influence continue inside.

The interior of the new BMW M2 CS surrounds the occupants in a performance-focused environment combining the sporty feel of exquisite Alcantara with innovative lightweight design. The driver and passenger are supported by weight-optimized, heated M Carbon bucket seats with illuminated “CS” logos. The integrated head restraints are removable for helmet clearance and, thanks to the option of integrating multi-point harnesses, improve the M2 CS’s track readiness. The surfaces of the seats are finished exclusively in Black Merino leather with M Color highlights.

With a flat-bottomed rim, gearshift paddles, a red center marker at 12 o’clock, and two M buttons for selecting individually configured vehicle setups, the standard heated M Alcantara steering wheel features a traditional three-spoke design and brings Motorsport flair to the cockpit. The trim elements in the instrument panel and center console are finished in carbon fiber. Additional details include a red “CS” logo on the carbon fiber center console, M seatbelts, black threshold plates with an “M2 CS” logo and red outline. Now illuminated with the “CS” logo, the door trim panels certainly grab the attention. The color of the lighting used here can be set individually with the standard ambient lighting. When switched off, a carbon structure is visible. Rounding off the sporty interior is the M Anthracite headlining.

Standard equipment in the new BMW M2 CS also includes automatic climate control, comfort access, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional, including the BMW Maps navigation system. As well as the BMW Head-Up Display, it also includes Augmented View on the control display. The standard smartphone integration allows wireless use of Apple CarPlay^® and Android Auto™. The M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display and BMW Head-Up Display add to the progressive sports car flair in the cockpit. The fully-digital display grouping consists of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. These serve as a platform for the BMW iDrive control and operation system, based on BMW Operating System 8.5, which can also be used to digitally operate the climate control functions. In the BMW M2 CS, temperature and ventilation settings, heated seats, and the heated steering wheel can be controlled either by touch using a special menu option in the lower area of the control display or by voice command with the help of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

M-specific controls enable direct access for an extensive range of functions.

The CS carries over the cutting-edge operating concept for setup customization from the standard BMW M2. At the heart is the Setup button on the center console. This provides direct access to the settings options for the engine, Adaptive M Suspension, M Servotronic steering, integrated braking system working in conjunction with the M Compound brakes, and the M Traction Control function, which allows drivers to choose from ten individual intervention thresholds for wheel slip limitation. Front and center of this fresh round of updates is the 20 hp added to its output: the high-revving inline 6-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology now tops out at 473 hp. There are new design accents for the exterior and interior, a broadened exterior color range, and the introduction of BMW Operating System 8.5 to support the latest generation of BMW iDrive.

The 2025 BMW M2 takes the classic driver’s car concept of a straight-six engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, and rear-wheel-drive – a unique proposition among its rivals – to a new stage of evolution. In combination with its compact dimensions, chassis technology tuned perfectly for both everyday driving and track use, and a state-of-the-art operating system that allows personalization of a wide range of vehicle functions, this makes the new M2 ideally equipped to write the next chapter in the BMW M brand’s history of success in this segment.

The new BMW M2 will be built alongside the new BMW 2 Series Coupe at BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico. It will be launched worldwide with a production phase-in from August 2024.

M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine with extra output and torque.

As well as the power itself, the inimitable way in which the 6-cylinder engine delivers that power also plays a key role in the performance experience offered by the new BMW M2. The upgraded version of the engine preserves the linear power delivery, sustained into the upper reaches of the rev range, that is such a hallmark feature of M models. Its maximum torque is on tap across a wide rev band. With the standard 6-speed manual gearbox, peak torque remains 406 lb-ft between 2,650 and 6,130 rpm. When power is channelled via the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, a no-cost option, the figure rises to 443 lb-ft between 2,700 and 5,620 rpm. The engine produces its increased maximum output of 473 hp at 6,250 rpm, with revs topping out at 7,200 rpm.

To support the driver in getting the most out of the newfound power, advances have been made with the accelerator mapping and response in all the drive modes selectable via the M Setup menu. As a result, the new BMW M2 offers noticeably more rapid reactions to the driver’s requests for acceleration – both when specified with either the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission or the 6-speed manual gearbox.

Motorsport expertise elevates everyday performance.

Along with a pair of mono-scroll turbochargers, an indirect intercooler, and an electronically controlled wastegate, the M TwinPower Turbo technology of the straight-six engine includes High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, and Double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing. The engine also has an array of details borrowed directly from motorsport design, the impact of which is most clearly evident in its lightning-fast response, appetite for revs, and consisten capability in track use. These details include an extremely rigid crankcase with a sleeve-free, closed-deck construction, a forged crankshaft with lightweight design, cylinder bores with a wire-arc sprayed iron coating, and a 3D-printed core for the cylinder head.

The M-specific cooling system ensures the powertrain components maintain an optimal operating temperature even under heavy loads. The oil circuit is also designed to handle extremely dynamic driving situations. A map-controlled oil pump ensures reliable oil supply under extreme longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

The Drivelogic button integrated into the selector lever for the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission makes it possible to alter the shift characteristics, with a choice of three clearly distinguishable settings. Both the selector lever in the latest M design and the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel enable manual gear selection at any time.

Drivers craving a more direct interaction with the powertrain can specify the 6-speed manual gearbox. The manual features the Gear Shift Assistant, which uses rev-matching control to ensure slip-free operation when downshifting.

With the increased output, the manual M2 shaves 0.1 second off its 0 to 60 mph time, completing the trip in just 4.1 seconds. The M Steptronic transmission cuts that time to 3.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, or 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. The dynamic power delivery is accompanied by a stirring chorus from the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps.

Expanded range of exterior paint finishes, fresh exterior details, new-look alloy wheels.

For 2025, customers can specify their new BMW M2 in a choice of three solid colors, seven metallic shades, and four BMW Individual paint finishes. The expanded range now offers Sao Paulo Yellow, Vegas Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, Frozen Pure Grey metallic, and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic. The new selection of BMW Individual paint finishes for the new BMW M2 includes Java Green metallic, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect metallic and Twilight Purple Pearl Effect metallic.

The new BMW M2 is fitted as standard with M alloy wheels Style 930M in a double-spoke design with a Jet Black finish, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. These same wheels are also available in a bi-color finish or, new for 2025, a bright silver finish.

The signature M quad tailpipes are now finished in black as standard. The model designation badges on the trunk lid and grille are now black, bordered in sliver.

New steering wheels and seat surfaces, M Carbon bucket seats now available as an individual option.

The most important interface between driver and vehicle – the steering wheel – has been newly designed, bringing a fresh look to the interior of the 2025 BMW M2. The standard-fitted M leather steering wheel now has a flat-bottomed rim and a new design for the spokes. A red center marker in the 12 o’clock position, gearshift paddles, and the two M buttons for selecting individually configured vehicle setups underscore the track-ready feel. An M Alcantara steering wheel is now also available as an option in the same design. A heating function is offered as an option for both steering wheel designs.

The M Sport seats in Vernasca leather can now be ordered in Black with a Red highlight. Also, the weight-saving M Carbon bucket seats for the new BMW M2 are now available as a standalone option as well as part of the optional Carbon Package. With surfaces in Merino leather, electric adjustment and heating, removable head restraints, and facility for adding a multi-point harness, they optimize both all-day comfort and support during sporty driving.

BMW Operating System 8.5, digital control for the climate functions.

The M-specific content in the BMW Curved Display and optional BMW Head-Up Display enhances the cockpit’s tech-forward sports car aura. The fully digital screen grouping, made up of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display, now provides the stage for the latest evolution of the BMW iDrive system based on BMW Operating System 8.5. The functions of the climate control system are now also operated digitally. The temperature and ventilation settings as well as the seat heating and – if specified – steering wheel heating in the new BMW M2 can be controlled either by touch using a special menu option in the lower area of the control display or by voice command with the help of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

This broad adoption of digitalization leads to a further reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit and is accompanied by a redesign of the instrument panel. New adjustment controls for the air vent grilles in the center of the instrument panel and on the driver’s and front passenger side of the cockpit allow the airflow direction to be adjusted using rotating and tilting movements.

The interior trim elements on the instrument panel and center console of the new BMW M2 come as standard in new M Fine Brushed Aluminium. Interior finishes in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite, M Carbon Fiber are available as options.

M-specific operating concept, extensive standard equipment.

At the heart of the M-specific operating concept is the Setup button on the center console. This provides direct access to the settings options for the engine, the standard adaptive M suspension, the M Servotronic steering, the integrated braking system working in conjunction with the M Compound brakes, and the M Traction Control function, which allows drivers to set individual intervention thresholds for wheel slip limitation. The 6-speed’s Gear Shift Assistant is also activated and deactivated via the M Setup menu.

Standard equipment for the new BMW M2 also includes three-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and the BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps navigation system. The standard smartphone integration enables use of Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Among the optional items available are Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function and the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

Also on the options list is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the new BMW M2 now also includes Augmented View on the control display. This supplements the navigation system’s map display by showing a live video stream of the driver’s view on the information display or control display and augmenting it with contextual real-time information. At confusing junctions, for instance, an animated directional arrow is integrated into the video image to help the driver take the best turn-off for the planned route.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 11, 2022…The second generation of the celebrated BMW M2 excites and delights with all the elements of a classic high-performance sports car, with fresh intensity and cutting-edge technology. The new M2 encapsulates the sheer joy of driving; compact dimensions, an inline 6-cylinder engine, a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and advanced technology are all central to its appeal. Fleet-footed agility and handling that remains easily controllable even as the driver explores the limits are qualities essential to the emotional experience of new BMW M2. Its expressive character is reflected in a visually powerful design that makes no secret of the car’s capability before it even turns a wheel. 

The expressive styling of the new BMW M2 is a clear indication of its mission to deliver sporty driving pleasure, and stems from its powerful proportions within its compact dimensions. At 180.3 inches long, 74.3 inches wide, and 55.2 inches tall, the new M2 is 4.1 inches longer than its predecessor, 1.3 inches wider, and 0.3 inches lower.

The 108.1-inch wheelbase of the new BMW M2 is a critical factor in its agility. It is 4.3 inches shorter than that of the BMW M4 but 2.1 inches longer than the previous M2, benefitting legroom front and rear. Track widths have increased by 1.5 inches (to 63.7) at the front and .16 inches (to 63.2) at the rear, matching the M4.

M-specific design features accentuate the performance-led character.

The athletic proportions of the new BMW M2 combine with clean surfaces and sculpted forms that accentuate its wide stance. But the M2 is most obviously differentiated from the BMW 2 Series Coupe by the M-specific design features necessary for cool air intake and routing and aerodynamic balance.

The front of the new BMW M2 is dominated by a wide, frameless BMW twin kidney grille with prominent horizontal elements. The M-typical three-section lower air intakes have almost rectangular contours and optimize cooling of the powertrain components and brakes. The boldly contoured headlight units are positioned to the outer edges of the front fascia. Inspired by the legendary BMW 02 models, they each have a single circular headlight using full-LED technology for both low beam and high beam. The contrasting background of the lights showcases the advanced technology at work. The daytime driving lights take the form of U-shaped light arrangements at the lower edge of the headlights, which also function as the turn signals.

Muscular wheel arches, optional carbon-fiber roof.

Prominently flared side skirts flow into broad, muscular wheel arches to create an appearance characteristic of BMW M and inspired by motorsport. The M2’s silhouette is defined by its long hood, short overhangs, and a passenger compartment set far back. The roofline sloping down from the B-pillar and the short deck lid culminating in a pronounced lip spoiler complete the look of a compact BMW coupe with clear high performance abilities.

Customers can specify the new BMW M2 with an M Carbon roof as an option. Using this lightweight material for the roof reduces vehicle weight and lowers the center of gravity, enhancing handling agility.

Rear diffuser with racing authenticity.

Pronounced horizontal surfaces give the rear end of the new BMW M2 its structure. Classic hallmarks of M design include the vertically arranged reflectors set deep into the outer edges of the rear apron and a rear spoiler lip designed to generate additional downforce at the rear axle. The most striking element of the rear end is the pronounced diffuser insert. This air-directing element adopts a minimalist, racing look and incorporates signature M quad tailpipes. The tailpipes are mounted significantly inward from the edges of the rear bumper and enhance a powerfully compact rear view.

Exterior paint finishes and light-alloy wheels provide distinctive touches.

At introduction, the new BMW M2 will be available in two solid and three metallic exterior paint shades: Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Toronto Red metallic, and the new Zandvoort Blue available exclusively on the new M2.

Standard on the new BMW M2 are exclusively-designed M double-spoke light-alloy wheels in a Jet Black finish; 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. The same design in a bi-color finish is a no-cost option.

M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual gearbox.

The powertrain technology in the new BMW M2 brings elite performance to the premium compact segment and delivers an intoxicating driving experience in the style of a classic high-performance sports car. The M2 is the only model in its segment to be offered with an inline 6-cylinder engine, which impresses not only with its balanced performance characteristics, but also its superior power. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a dynamic 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. In either case, the engine’s power is fed through to the road in traditional fashion via the rear wheels.

With 453 hp at 6,250 rpm, the S58 engine in the new M2 outguns the unit in its predecessor by 48 hp. It combines the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology with the high-revving character drivers have come to expect of an M car. The engine’s peak torque of 406 lb-ft is produced between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm. Urgent response, an appetite for revs, and linear power delivery into the highest reaches of the engine speed range define the performance experience in the new BMW M2. The engine revs to a maximum 7,200 rpm.

The design principle behind the engine and its technical details reflect decades of experience amassed by BMW M GmbH in motorsport. An extremely rigid crankcase, friction-optimized cylinder bores, a crankshaft drive with high torsional rigidity, and a forged crankshaft with lightweight design enhance the efficiency, power development, and high-revving nature of the engine. The core of the cylinder head is 3D printed, enabling a weight reduction and optimized coolant duct routing.

Two mono-scroll turbochargers supply compressed air to the combustion chambers. The turbocharging system also features an indirect intercooler and an electronically controlled wastegate. Other elements of M TwinPower Turbo technology include High Precision Injection with maximum pressure of over 5,000 psi, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing.

Track-spec cooling and oil supply systems, M-specific exhaust system.

The M-specific cooling system is fed fresh air through the large apertures in the front apron, and it ensures the powertrain components maintain optimal operating temperatures at all times – both in everyday use over short distances or in urban areas and during high-speed track sessions. The oil supply system is also designed to handle extreme dynamic driving situations. An oil sump with two separate chambers and an additional suction stage allows the map-controlled oil pump to keep lubricant flowing reliably even under high lateral and longitudinal acceleration loads.

A choice of power delivery: an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic or a six-speed manual gearbox.

The new BMW M2 comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, creating a performance experience in the classical mold, rooted in the heightened interaction between car and driver. The gear ratios and spread are perfectly matched to the performance characteristics of the engine. A precisely defined shift action enables rapid, easily executed gear changes, and the Gear Shift Assistant uses rev matching to ensure slip-free operation when downshifting. Gear Shift Assistant can be deactivated in the M Setup menu.

The available eight-speed M Steptronic transmission is also distinguished by ratio spacing perfectly attuned to the engine’s characteristics and also offers befittingly sporty gear shifts. The broadly spread gears aid efficiency at low engine speeds while enabling an intense rush of power from low road speeds.

The transmission’s shift characteristics can be varied using the Drivelogic button integrated into the selector lever, with a choice of three clearly distinguishable settings available in both automatic and manual mode. Besides a more comfort-oriented setup and a setting for sporty driving, drivers are also able to activate a track-optimized shift program.

Choosing the manual or automatic gearbox will have only a minor effect on performance. The new M2 fitted with the 6-speed manual can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, while the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission trims that time to 3.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, or 177 mph if the optional M Driver’s Package is specified.

Supreme dynamics, optimal traction: rear-wheel drive and the Active M Differential.

By sending power exclusively to the rear wheels, the new BMW M2 adheres to the traditional recipe for converting engine output into dynamic performance. When pushing hard on the track, the driver can use the linear build-up of cornering forces characteristic of M models to guide the car through corners with absolute precision.

Another contributor to the sublime dynamics of the BMW M2 is the standard Active M Differential. It can stop rotational speed compensation between the rear wheels whenever required and generate a locking effect of up to 100 percent seamlessly and variably. This optimizes traction on road surfaces offering different levels of adhesion at the left- and right- rear wheels. The differential lock ensures drive torque is not lost through slip at one or the other rear wheel but can instead be used to pull away more quickly. The Active M Differential is networked with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system and adapts its locking effect precisely to the driving situation at hand, as detected by an array of sensors. Among the factors considered are drive torque, wheel speed, vehicle speed, and lateral acceleration, as well as the car’s steering angle and yaw rate. This allows the degree of lock to be adjusted very precisely and predictably for the driver. For example, when accelerating hard out of corners, drivers are given tangible feedback on the grip available at the rear wheels and can therefore apply just the right amount of throttle.

Chassis: a new dimension in agility.

Sophisticated chassis technology originally developed for the M3 an M4 endows the new M2 with the tools required to convert the power of its straight-six engine into sublime straight-line and lateral performance, both in everyday driving and on the track. At the same time, the compact dimensions, short wheelbase, excellent longitudinal and torsional stiffness of the body and chassis mountings, and a nearly 50:50 weight distribution combine to deliver precisely controllable, fingertip handling. Add classical rear-wheel drive to the mix and the result is driving pleasure of incomparable purity.

M-specific bracing and chassis components.

The torsional stiffness of the front is further increased by unique links connecting the individual spring strut towers with one another and with the nose of the vehicle and the bulkhead. Vertical braces connect the stiffening elements of the engine compartment to the front axle subframe, whose supporting base has been enlarged by the addition of an attachment point at the base of the A-pillars. The M-specific aluminum front axle subframe is given extra rigidity by a single-piece aluminum shear panel with integral sill braces. The center and rear sections of the body incorporate model-specific C-pillar reinforcements and luggage compartment stiffening elements, together with a three-piece rear axle shear panel and a rear axle subframe with a rigid connection to the body.

The suspension on the new BMW M2 has M-specific kinematic and elastokinematic properties, which combine with the large castor and kingpin angles and the lowered roll center to produce both dynamic handling and carefully calibrated comfort-focused attributes. The M-specific version of the double-joint spring strut front axle comprises aluminum wishbones with ball joints, an aluminum torque arm with newly developed mounting, a forged swivel bearing with a unique spring strut clamp, and lightweight wheel bearings with very high camber stability. The five-link rear axle with M-specific upgrades provides the ideal basis for direct, high-precision response in highly dynamic driving situations with its wide track and rigid mounting.

M Servotronic steering and Adaptive M Suspension as standard.

The M Servotronic steering facilitates accurate turn-in when powering through bends on the one hand and effortless parking and maneuvering on the other. It does so by combining the benefits of speed-sensitive power assistance and a variable steering ratio. There is a choice of two settings for steering response in the M Setup menu. Comfort mode combines a light steering feel with precise feedback. And in the Sport setting the steering becomes much more communicative while also increasing steering effort – for maximum precision when exploring the outer reaches of the car’s dynamic abilities.

The standard Adaptive M Suspension features electronically controlled dampers designed to maximize road contact and traction in all driving situations. The dampers are controlled with the help of sensors that constantly monitor body movements, the condition of the road, and steering adjustments. Electromagnetically controlled valves generate fully variable damping forces for each individual wheel, as required and with split-second speed. The basic damper characteristics can be altered as desired by selecting one of the three settings in the M Setup menu.

Integrated braking system with two settings for pedal feel; M light-alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.

The M Compound brakes on the new BMW M2 – six-piston, fixed-caliper brakes with 15-inch discs at the front, and single-piston, floating-caliper brakes with 14.6-inch discs at the rear – deliver outstanding stopping power. The calipers are painted in Blue metallic as standard, with a Red finish available as an option.

The integrated braking system erases speed with great precision. This system brings together the brake activation, brake booster, and braking control functions within a compact module. The required brake pressure is triggered quickly and precisely using an electric actuator. Here, the integrated braking system is fitted in an M-specific version that offers the driver two pedal feel settings, allowing them to choose between more comfort-oriented or very direct execution of brake pedal inputs in the M Setup menu.

New to the BMW M2 are M light-alloy wheels with a larger diameter at the rear axle than at the front. This results in more effective transmission of lateral control forces at the driven wheels, making it possible to extract even more from the M2’s dynamic handling potential. The new BMW M2 comes with 19-inch light-alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear fitted with tires measuring 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30 ZR20 at the front and rear respectively.

M Drive Professional with M Traction Control also fitted as standard.

The inclusion of the integrated braking system enables the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system to act with even greater precision. Its range of functions includes M Dynamic Mode, which allows extra wheel slip to enhance an already sporty driving experience. The wheel slip limitation function has been integrated into the engine management on the new BMW M2. This eliminates the long signal paths to the DSC control unit, meaning that the corrective inputs are applied up to ten times faster than in conventional systems and with exceptional precision. Because the near-actuator wheel slip limitation function manages any loss of traction, especially when accelerating hard or taking corners at speed, the DSC system has to intervene far less frequently to maintain composed and assured handling with selective applications of the brakes at individual wheels.

The M Traction Control system, part of the standard M Drive Professional, allows drivers to specify one of 10 stages of DSC intervention. During outings on the track, drivers can carefully reduce the extent of control system intervention in order to configure a setup for controlled drifts that is precisely tailored to both track surface conditions and their personal preferences.

Additional standard equipment and a focused menu of options.

When it comes to functionality, ergonomics, and comfort, the standard equipment features in the new BMW M2 follow the lead of its powertrain and chassis technology by placing the emphasis squarely on focused driving pleasure. The M2’s cockpit, with its driver-centric design, features M-specific displays, controls, and configurations, as well as the advanced BMW Curved Display. A focused selection of options is available for enhancing driving comfort or adding visual flourishes to both the exterior and interior, allowing owners to personalize their new BMW M2 in just the way they want.

Redesigned M Sport seats and M Carbon bucket seats.

The 2023 M2 features newly designed M Sport seats with more pronounced side bolsters. They are upholstered in Vernasca leather with perforated surfaces and can be ordered in either Black or Cognac. Their integral head restraints feature an illuminated M logo. The M Sport seats likewise come with electrical adjustment, including for the height of the head restraints.

Optional for the first time on the M2 are the track-ready M Carbon bucket seat – part of the optional Carbon Package. Fully electric and heated, they feature integral head restraints and illuminated M2 badges just above the backrest. The use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the structural elements of the seat bottom and backrest together with the cut-outs in the side bolsters and below the head restraints saves about 24 pounds over the standard M Sport seats.

Customers wishing to inject more sporting style into the cabin of the new BMW M2 can opt for M interior trim in Aluminum Rhombicle anthracite in place of the standard Black high-gloss. If the optional Carbon Fiber trim is specified, the shift paddles (on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles) and trim on the M leather steering wheel will be finished in carbon fiber along with the trim on the dashboard and center console.

There are two roof variants for the new BMW M2: an electrically operated glass slide/tilt moonroof offering a glass surface now larger by nearly 20 percent compared with the outgoing model is standard equipment. A weight-reducing M Carbon roof panel is optional and deletes the moonroof.

Choosing the optional Shadowline Package adds the M Shadowline lights and finishes the tips of the tailpipes in black. Also available is the Carbon Package, which bundles the aforementioned M Carbon roof, M Carbon bucket seats in Black Full Merino leather with striking contour lines finished in the BMW M tricolors around the backrests and headrests of the front seats, and carbon fiber interior trim.

Driver assistance systems for optimized comfort and safety.

A selection of advanced driver assistance systems provide comfort over long journeys and safety in unclear situations on the road. The new BMW M2 is equipped as standard with Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear, Dynamic Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, and Lane Departure Warning.

The optional Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go function (optional on vehicles equipment with the M Steptronic transmission only) maintains the chosen cruising speed while also automatically keeping a safe distance from vehicles travelling ahead, with a choice of four proximity settings.

Setup button for individual configuration of powertrain and chassis.

A key feature of the M-specific control/operation concept is the Setup button in the center console’s control panel, which provides direct access to the settings options for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system and 10-stage M Traction Control. On models fitted with the manual transmission, the Gear Shift Assistant can also be activated and deactivated from the M Setup menu.

Two individually configured setup variants can be stored permanently, together with the preferred settings for the engine note, the DSC system, the Automatic Start/Stop function and the shift characteristics of the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, if specified. The overall vehicle configuration can then be called up at any time by pressing one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel.

M Mode button: unadulterated performance at the push of a button.

Also located in the center console’s control panel is the M Mode button, which opens the door to a performance experience perfectly tailored to each driver’s preferences. SPORT mode scales back the range of driver assistance system functions to a minimum. As the new BMW M2 is fitted with M Drive Professional as standard, drivers are also able to select TRACK mode. Designed purely for driving on race circuits, TRACK mode fully deactivates the assistance systems.

SPORT and TRACK modes both reduce the content shown in the information display and Head-Up Display to the information relevant to sporty driving. Various readouts can be called up on the left of the information display, including boost pressure and coolant temperature, tire pressure and tire temperature, or longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

Added fun on the track: M Laptimer, M Drift Analyzer.

As well as M Traction Control and TRACK mode, M Drive Professional also includes the M Laptimer and M Drift Analyzer functions. The M Laptimer records both the current lap time and the time difference compared with the fastest lap around the circuit during the current session.

The M Drift Analyzer helps the driver to sharpen their high-speed cornering skills using deliberate oversteer and precise counter-steering, recording the duration, distance and angle of the driver’s latest drift.

A forward-thinking user interface emphasizing touch and voice control.

The new BMW M2 also treats drivers and passengers to the latest-generation BMW user interface in the form of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus. Based on BMW Operating System 8 and featuring new-generation software with powerful connectivity and data processing, it takes the interaction between the driver and vehicle into the digital future.

The new BMW iDrive system offers many more ways for drivers to enjoy easy, intuitive, multimodal control of vehicle, navigation, infotainment and communication functions, and digital services. The BMW Curved Display and the continually expanding capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant mean the system has been deliberately geared towards interaction using natural language and touch control. M-specific display content gives added impact to the design of the new BMW M2 cockpit with its emphasis on performance and focused driving pleasure.

The standard BMW Curved Display in the new M2 cockpit is angled towards the driver, making the intuitive touch control more straightforward. It is formed by a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display.

The information display’s newly designed graphical layout and the M style content contribute to a focused, performance-led driving experience. The vehicle speed is shown on the left of the display both as a figure and as a digital scale, along with information such as the fuel gauge and the status of the driver assistance systems. The right-hand section indicates engine speed, current gear, the transmission’s Drivelogic setting, oil temperature and the setup selected with the M button on the steering wheel. The familiar M Shift Lights appear at the top of the information display, while an indicator bar along the lower edge notifies the driver of the status of the driving stability systems and traction control.

The control display provides a clear overview of the various menu options in the form of widgets on the home screen, which can be arranged to suit personal preferences. A number of special widgets are also available in the new BMW M2 containing information on the current vehicle setup, as well as tire pressure and temperature.

BMW Maps navigation system as standard, M-specific Head-Up Display as an option.

The cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system forms part of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus. The latest generation of this navigation system enables fast route calculation based on precise real-time traffic data transmitted at short intervals. The optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional adds the BMW Head-Up Display with M specific content.

BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with new skills.

The control/operation system in the new BMW M2 also includes the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. BMW Operating System 8 unlocks additional skills for this digital assistant. Naturally formulated spoken instructions can now be used to adjust the air conditioning, for instance, or open and close the windows. Driver assistance system functions can also be controlled via voice command in the new BMW M2.

Optimum connectivity with 5G and Personal eSIM.

If the customer selects the optional Personal eSIM, both it and the Vehicle SIM can be active simultaneously thanks to the DSDA (Dual SIM Dual Active) capability. The Personal eSIM allows the customer to use the communications and connectivity functions covered by their mobile contract from their vehicle with ease. The new BMW M2 is essentially turned into another device in the customer’s digital ecosystem. Mobile reception for both data and phone calls is significantly improved by the vehicle’s own 5G antenna system. Up to ten devices can access the internet at any one time via the mobile hotspot.

The Personal eSIM is linked to the customer’s BMW ID rather than their car – meaning it can be transferred to other BMW vehicles with Personal eSIM functionality. If the customer signs into another BMW with their BMW ID, the Personal eSIM will be configured automatically and will then be available immediately.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – November 5, 2019…Today, BMW M GmbH is proud to announce the next step in the evolution of the BMW M2, the M2 CS. The new high-performance coupe blends racetrack optimization with everyday usability to create the most capable version of M’s smallest model.

Power and torque are rated at 444 hp and 406 lb-ft (preliminary), an increase of 39 hp over the M2 Competition. Newly available, select CFRP body panels and components help reduce weight, lower the center of gravity and improve aerodynamics. Exclusive Carbon Fiber and Alcantara interior trim help set this M2 apart from all previous versions. 

The new M2 CS has also been developed side by side with the new M2 CS Racing model, which will be offered by BMW Motorsport as a new entry model into customer racing. BMW M GmbH and BMW Motorsport worked closely together to take the learnings from the M2 street car and from the M4 GT4 customer program and apply them to the new M2 CS Racing model. A level of cooperation which we will see repeated with select limited edition M models in the future.

The 2020 BMW M2 CS Coupe will make its World Debut at Automobility LA on November 20^th 2019.

S55 Power plant derived from the M4 Competition

The heart of the new BMW M2 CS is an uprated S55 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. Producing 444 hp at 6,250 rpm and 406 lb-ft of torque between 2,350 – 5,500 rpm (preliminary), the power plant allows the M2 CS to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds when equipped with the 7-speed dual clutch (DCT) transmission and in 4.0 seconds when equipped with the 6-speed manual.

The wide, flat torque curve, the linear build-up of power and a 7,600 rpm redline mean that the engine is ready to deliver an exhilarating experience at a moment’s notice. Two, quick-spooling mon-scroll turbochargers, High precision direct injection, Valvetronic variable valve timing and Double-Vanos fully variable cam timing deliver lighting fast responses of power to the driver’s throttle inputs. 

The S55 engine block is of a closed-deck design to deal with high cylinder pressures. Cylinder walls are coated with a wire-arc sprayed-on coating instead of liners to help reduce weight.

The exhaust gases are routed through a, unique to the M2 CS, dual-branch exhaust system with electronically-controlled exhaust valves and two, twin-exhaust pipes with engraved ///M logos. The exhaust sound can be controlled via the M Engine Dynamics control switch in the center console.

Cooling is provided by a central radiator, two smaller side radiators, an oil cooler, two scavenging pumps in the oil sump pan along with a sump baffle to help control oil movement under all circumstances. An oil return system near the turbochargers help keep the flow of oil steady during extreme acceleration and braking.  DCT-equipped cars also receive a separate transmission oil cooler.

6-Speed Manual and 7-Speed DCT Transmissions

The new BMW M2 CS comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, which is notable for its compact design and light weight. The use of a carbon-fiber friction lining enhances the manual shift feel. The BMW M2 CS is equipped with rev-matching technology which blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine’s revs on upshifts, making gear changes even smoother. This lends the car additional stability during hard driving on the track. Rev-matching is deactivated when DSC is switched off.

The seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT with Drivelogic) is available as an option. This system effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch, and enables either extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power or ultra-smooth shifts. The driver can change gears either in automated or manual mode by using the gearshift lever on the center console or shift paddles on the M leather steering wheel. In both automatic and manual modes, Drivelogic provides the driver with a choice between three preconfigured driving programs: COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. 

Active M locking Differential  

The Dynamic Stability Control is supported in its task by the standard Active M Differential, an electronically controlled multi-plate locking differential which can vary the locking effect from 0 to 100 percent according to the driving situation, the car’s steering angle, accelerator position, brake pressure, engine torque, wheel-speed and yaw rate.

The control unit uses this collection of data inputs to detect the threat of traction loss on one side of the car and calculates the required locking effect, which is engaged by an electric motor. The full locking power of over 1,800 lb-ft is available within 150 milliseconds. This allows the system to prevent a wheel from spinning in extreme conditions on slippery road surfaces or when the two rear wheels are experiencing significant differences in friction coefficient.

In certain situations, the Active M Differential even works proactively. When pulling away on slippery surfaces, the lock is closed by a defined percentage even before a wheel can start to spin, to ensure that both wheels develop equal slip at the same time. The lock is also closed by the required percentage through dynamically driven corners, according to the levels of lateral acceleration and drive at work. This prevents the low-traction inside wheel from starting to turn too quickly. This permanent and infinitely variable differential control also increases agility, avoids understeer into corners and improves directional stability under braking and load changes.

M Dynamic Mode (MDM), which can be activated automatically by either selecting SPORT+ mode, or engaging manually via the DSC button allows for a greater degree of dynamic freedom when the driver requires it, such as on closed course track driving.

Standard Adaptive M Suspension, chassis and steering

The BMW M2 CS comes standard with the Adaptive M suspension, previously unavailable on the M2 models. The new fitted suspension gives the driver a choice of Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, each with different damper settings.

Comfort mode provides excellent everyday usability on varied surface conditions. Sport mode offers a setting for tuned for winding roads while Sport+ is designed to minimize body motion on track environments. The level of steering assistance is also varied as part of the three suspension modes.

The CFRP front brace, introduced on the M2 Competition, weighs only 3.3 pounds and ties the front strut towers to the bulkhead, increasing front end stiffness and improving turn-in response and steering precision.

The rear five-link suspension’s control arms and wheel hubs are made from forged aluminum. The rear, lightweight, steel subframe is bolted directly to the body frame without any flexible rubber bushings to improve rear wheel direction and stability.

Standard and Optional Brakes

The standard brake fitment consists of M Compound brakes featuring 400 mm front vented disks and 380 mm rear vented disks. Red-painted six-piston fixed front and four-piston fixed rear calipers apply the stopping power. This setup provides outstanding stopping power with excellent fade resistance and thermal stability.

Available for the first time on an M2 is the M Carbon Ceramic Brake option which delivers increased thermal resistance capabilities under extreme track driving conditions, as well as reduced weight with greatly improved brake disk wear characteristics.

Forged 19-inch wheels with non-runflat performance tires

The M2 CS is equipped with standard 19-inch Forged Y-spoke Style 763M wheels in a High-Gloss Jet Black finish. A Gold matt finish to the same wheels can be specified as an option. Either wheel color finish can be ordered with either Michelin Cup 2 tires or mixed performance tires.

Wheel sizes are 9.0 x 19 inch front and 10.0 x 19 inch rear. Mounted tires are sized 245/35R19 front and 265/35R19 rear.

CFRP Exterior components

The BMW M2 features carefully selected use of CFRP in its exterior panels and components to not only reduce weight but also improve cooling and aerodynamics.

The new CFRP hood weighs half of the weight of a similar steel hood while incorporating functional air vents, finished in High-Gloss Black, which help increase front end downforce and aid in engine cooling.

The CFRP roof, offered for the first time on the M2, is made from a rigid, sandwich construction which requires no roof bow components nor insulation while still providing the required acoustic properties. Together, the new roof and hood help lower the M2 CS’s center of gravity for improved agility. 

Also made form CFRP are the front splitter, the rear spoiler, rear diffuser and M twin-stalk exterior mirrors. The front and rear spoilers along with the diffuser work together to optimize air flow underneath the car and to further increase downforce.

Exclusive CS Interior Appointments

The cabin of the M2 CS blends race track inspired aesthetics with weight saving technology. The center, transmission tunnel console is made from CFRP, saving over 6 pounds when compared to a standard 2 Series console.

Alcantara material covers the center armrest and dash trim, which also includes an embroidered CS badge in red contrast stitching. The standard M Sport Steering wheel is covered in Alcantara with red contrast stitching and a race stripe at the 12 o’clock position.

The M2 CS logo is present on the door sill plates and on the instrument cluster when the vehicle is started.

The standard front M Competition seats are finished in Alcantara / Black Merino leather with red contrast stitching and the BMW M Motorsport stripes embroidered into the integrated headrests. The CS logo is visible on the rear seat headrests.

The BMW M2 CS Racing is convincing with impressive driving performance and offers motorsport beginners the performance of a pedigree racing car at an attractive price. The BMW M2 CS (combined fuel consumption in l/100 km: 10.4–9.4; combined CO₂ emissions in g/km: 238–214), also being presented to the global community today, is the perfect basis for the new entry-level model. The BMW M2 CS Racing is available from 95,000.00 Euros (plus value-added tax) and meets all the prerequisites for a successful entry-level model. The new customer racing car is powered by an S55 six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo Technology, which with a capacity of 2,979 cc in the racing version achieves between 280 hp (205 kW) and 365 hp (268 kW), depending on the Balance of Performance or Permit B classification. The maximum torque of 550 Nm is transmitted by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which has been applied using specialist motorsport software.

Another highlight of the BMW M2 CS Racing is the engine management. As for the BMW M4 GT4, this will be via power sticks in the future, which enable various performance levels to be programmed and retrieved depending on the stipulated Balance of Performance.

Motorsport-specific driving aids such as ABS and DSC guarantee that newcomers will be able to handle the car safely. A mechanical limited slip differential with pre-load and separate cooling also comes as standard, as do specially manufactured drive shafts. Like its production counterpart, the roof is also made of carbon.

Club racing version with increased performance.

Delivery of the first BMW M2 CS Racing is planned for mid 2020. As with the predecessor models, the BMW M235i Racing and the BMW M240i Racing, several platforms around the world will be available to the new car apart from its main stomping grounds, the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and the TC America. A Permit B version is planned for racing at the Nordschleife (GER) as part of the VLN.

BMW Motorsport is also already working on an upgrade package to increase performance to 450 hp. Further details and the start of delivery of these models will be announced at a later point in time.

I’m delighted that we are also able to break into this market with the BMW M2 CS Racing and expand our customer racing offering. BMW M2 CS on the road at 450 hp.

In the BMW M2 CS road car, the dual charged six-cylinder in-line engine based on the power unit of the BMW M4 Competition achieves 450 hp (331 kW). The power is unleashed perfectly onto the racetrack and the road via the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 7-speed M dual-clutch gearbox, the adaptive M racing suspension previously reserved for the BMW M4 models, as well as cup tyres. The standard M racing brakes with painted red brake callipers or the optional M carbon ceramic brakes ensure the car slows down suitably.

In the interior, the lightweight M racing seat from the BMW M4 CS, with Merino and Alcantara leather covers, provide the driver with the perfect support even when they are bumped on the racetrack. The optional M sports steering wheel with an exclusive Alcantara covering, which like in a racing car has a red mark at the 12 o’clock position, gives that direct racing feeling.

Endurance tests at the Nordschleife already passed.

The race car BMW M2 CS Racing has an intensive period of testing behind it. After initial outings at Miramas (FRA) and Portimão (POR) came the first appearance in race conditions at the fifth round of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring. At the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the most demanding racetrack in the world, BMW Motorsport Junior Beitske Visser (NED) and Jörg Weidinger (GER), test and development engineer at BMW M GmbH and a very successful participant in the BMW Sports Trophy over many years himself, completed the first endurance test and provided the engineers with valuable insights under race conditions. Further outings at the ‘Green Hell’ came in the seventh and ninth round of the VLN.

Munich. To coincide with the market launch on 16 April, BMW released its “digital-first” campaign for the new BMW M2 Coupé. Stars of the campaign “Eyes on Gigi” are the new BMW M2 Coupé and American supermodel Gigi Hadid, who is appearing in front of the camera for an automobile brand for the first time.

The dynamic performance and agility of the first-ever BMW M2 Coupé and the sensuous beauty and elegance of Gigi Hadid inspired renowned film producer and screenplay author Marc Forster, who directed films such as “James Bond – Quantum of Solace”, “Monster’s Ball” and “World War Z”, to create a highly unusual spot.

The exciting film, which will initially be released exclusively on YouTube and Facebook from 14 April, invites viewers to play a very different kind of “shell game”: The film starts with supermodel Gigi Hadid climbing into one of three parked BMW M2 Coupés; from then on, the viewer tries to keep track of Gigi and her BMW M2 Coupé.
Within a short space of time, two more BMW M2 Coupés join in and a fast-paced vehicle choreography begins – making the task virtually impossible.
At the end of the drive, all five M2 Coupés come to a halt and the viewer has to identify which car Gigi Hadid is in.

The spectacular one-shot stunt – captured in a single uncut tracking shot – was filmed at an airfield in California’s Mojave Desert under the direction of Oscar-winning cameraman Mauro Fiore (“Avatar”, “The Equalizer”).

The interactive resolution of the game takes place on the campaign microsite EyesOnGigi.com, where the viewer can also follow the fast-paced vehicle choreography from a 360-degree perspective.

With 16.1 million subscribers on Instagram, nearly 1.9 million followers on Twitter and aprox. 2.6 million fans on Facebook, Hadid is extremely successful in this area.

Woodcliff Lake, N.J.: October 13, 2015 6:01 pm EDT / 3:01 pm PDT … Today, BMW M GmbH unveiled the newest member of its product family. The coveted M badge has been placed on the popular BMW 2 Series in the form of the all-new 2016 BMW M2. The 6-cylinder under the hood is in keeping with the finest M tradition, ensuring unbeatable driving dynamics on the trace track with exceptional power delivery and the signature, outstanding driving behavior thanks to rear-wheel drive agility and lightweight aluminum M Sport suspension. The innovative M TwinPower Turbo technology ensures outstanding torque available across a wide rev band with rapid responses and excellent efficiency, raising the pulse with its distinctive engine soundtrack.

The BMW M2 will be available at authorized BMW centers with a limited range of options starting in spring of 2016. Price will be disclosed closer to market launch.

Just like its predecessor high revs and M TwinPower.

With an output of 365 bhp at 6,500 rpm and maximum revs of 7,000 rpm this all-new BMW M2 is more powerful than its predecessor: the BMW 1 M Coupe. The 3.0-liter 6-cylinder inline engine in the new BMW M2 sends out a clear message to the high-performance sports car segment. The engine’s peak torque also leads the way in this segment; a full 343 lb-ft is on tap between 1,400 and 5,560 rpm, with the overboost function raising this figure by 26 lb-ft to 369 lb-ft between 1,450 and 4,750 rpm. A glance to the past will put things into perspective, this figure is more than 70 lb-ft of additional torque than the past generation M3, ensuring plenty of torque is available in all driving situations.

With the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in place and Launch Control activated, the new BMW M2 completes the sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in a scant 4.2 seconds (4.4 s with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed of the all-new BMW M2 is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The all-new BMW M2’s newly developed 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine represents a symbiosis of exceptional output and outstanding efficiency. The lightweight, thermodynamically optimized, all-aluminum unit is low in weight yet at the same time very rigid in design. This enables higher cylinder pressures for improved power output and torque.

State-of-the-art M TwinPower Turbo technology.

The all-new BMW M2 comes with the latest generation of the trailblazing M TwinPower Turbo technology. In the new 6-cylinder inline gasoline engine, this comprises a TwinScroll turbocharger, High Precision Direct Injection, variable camshaft timing (Double-VANOS) and VALVETRONIC variable valve lift control.

Optimized to meet the highest standards and in order to satisfy the high expectations of sporty drivers who like to push the limits on the track, the BMW M GmbH development engineers have introduced upgrades to the engine powering the all-new BMW M2. This engine has gained selected components from the high-performance unit used in the BMW M3 and BMW M4 presented in 2014. Components including the pistons, with their top ring optimized for the use of grey-cast iron liners, are sourced from the BMW M3 and M4 engine, as are the crankshaft main bearing shells. The new engine in the BMW M2 is equipped with the requisite high-performance spark plugs designed to optimally work at higher temperatures.

The integration of the turbocharger into the exhaust manifold plays a major role in the ability of the new 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine in the all-new BMW M2 to optimize its performance efficiently. The warm-up phase after a cold start is noticeably shorter reducing exhaust emissions. The electrically operated boost pressure control valve and close-loop arrangement of the catalytic converter further improve the engine’s emissions rating.

The standard Auto Start Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration provide additional potential for fuel savings in the all-new BMW M2, while the intelligent energy management of ancillary components enables an additional reduction in fuel consumption. For example, the coolant pump operates only as required and the oil pump is map-controlled. The air conditioning compressor, which is disconnected whenever it is not being used, and the Electric Power Steering, which requires no electric energy when driving straight ahead, make a considerable contribution to the laudable fuel consumption and emissions figures of the all-new BMW M2.

Oil supply secure even during track days.

The many years of motor racing experience built up by the BMW M engineers are also reflected in the oil supply for the all-new BMW M2 engine. In order to ensure oil reaches all engine components at all times under limit-pushing driving with sustained heavy lateral acceleration, and extreme braking maneuvers the car has to withstand on the race track, the 6-cylinder inline engine benefits from a modified oil sump.

For example, an additional oil sump cover helps to limit the movement of oil under powerful acceleration. At the same time, an extra oil suction pump sends the oil back to the rear part of the oil sump when the driver brakes heavily. A special suction system is employed for the oil supply to the turbocharger under higher vehicle acceleration. This measure ensures that the oil supply to the engine remains secure at all times, both in normal everyday driving and when lateral dynamics are put to the test at the track.

The same also applies to the heat balance of all engine components. In order to deal with extreme cooling requirements under hard driving, the BMW M2 engine benefits from an additional oil cooler for the transmission oil (only applies to cars fitted with M DCT) and an extra water radiator for the engine.

Perfectly composed high-revving M exhaust note.

One of the main contributors to the extraordinary dynamic experience on board the all-new BMW M2 is the optimized exhaust with special flap system. With its four tailpipes, the exhaust system immediately marks the BMW M2 out as a BMW M model and its minimal exhaust back-pressure ensures the engine exhales optimally. The electrically controlled flap delivers the distinctive BMW M engine exhaust note across the entire rev range. In addition, drivers can use the Driving Dynamic Control switch to select a driving mode and an exhaust note to go with it.

Manual gearbox with automatic rev-matching.

The all-new BMW M2 comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, which stands out with its compact design and low weight. The use of a new type of carbon-fiber friction lining enhances shift precision. Dry-sump lubrication prevents any sloshing of the transmission oil and ensures all components benefit from an efficient supply of lubricant. An engagement speed control function, which blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine’s revs on upshifts, makes gear changes even smoother and lends the car additional stability during hard driving on the track. Experienced drivers can still take pride in performing the task of perfectly orchestrated down-shifts on their own by deactivating the system in DSC OFF mode.

Motorsport inspired - flawless shifts in a split-second.

The all-new BMW M2 can be ordered as an option with the latest generation of the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmissions (M DCT with Drivelogic). This system, which effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch, is specially designed to work with the customary engine dynamics of M cars and the engine’s high torque and output. The system detects which gear the driver will choose next based on the engine’s revs, the accelerator position, the level of acceleration and the driving mode, and engages it before the driver has actually moved the shift paddle. As a result, the clutches now only need to open or close for the gear-change process to be completed. The change of gear is therefore executed in fractions of a second. Depending on the driving mode activated, it enables either extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power or ultra-smooth shifts. The extra gear of the M DCT transmission over the six-speed manual gearbox allows for tightly spaced gearing and reduced fuel consumption thanks to its taller gear ratios.

The driver can change gears either in automated mode or manually using the M gearshift lever on the center console or shift paddles on the M leather steering wheel. The Drivelogic function tuned to the M Double Clutch Transmission offers a choice of six driving programs (three in automatic mode and three in manual mode).

Optimal acceleration in all conditions.

The integrated Launch Control function ensures the best possible acceleration off the line in all conditions. This function determines the ideal getaway rpm and is automatically dialed in priming the clutches to deliver maximum forward momentum. Once under way, upshifts are timed and performed at the optimal revs. This allows the BMW M2 with innovative M DCT to outperform the already outstanding acceleration achievable with the six-speed manual gearbox.

Dynamic Performance - Motorsport technology for the road.

The roots of BMW M GmbH lie in motor racing, as is highlighted in no small measure by the dynamic talent of all BMW M models. The all-new BMW M2 also sets the pace in its segment when it comes to agility, driving feeling, directional stability, steering precision and controllability at the limit, without any compromise in everyday use.

Lightweight design and precise wheel location.

The basic requirement for a top-level driving dynamics vehicle is a high level of rigidity and a low axle system weight with reduced unsprung mass. That’s why the BMW M GmbH engineers have referred back to the lightweight aluminum front and rear axles of the BMW M3 and M4 models for the all-new BMW M2. The control arms, wheel carriers, axle subframes and stiffening plate of the double-joint spring-strut front axle weigh 11 pounds less than would be the case with a conventional steel construction. Further weight savings are provided by use of aluminum in the suspension struts and tubular anti-roll bar.

In order to ensure extremely precise wheel location, play-free ball joints are used to transmit transverse forces. A stiffening plate in the underbody provides additional bolted connection between the axle subframe and the body sills, which increases the stiffness of the front-end structure. The longitudinal forces passing through the suspension are transmitted directly via special elastomer bearings delivering precise handling feedback.

All the control arms and wheel carriers of the all-new BMW M2’s five-link rear axle are made from forged aluminum, which reduces the unsprung masses of the wheel-locating components by more than 6 pounds compared to a steel construction. In addition, a racing-derived rigid connection, without rubber bushings, is used to fix the lightweight steel grid-type rear axle subframe to the body. This further improves wheel location and tracking stability. The axle kinematics – which govern the movement of the wheels under compression according to the arrangement of the control arms – are similarly tuned to deliver the precise wheel location typical from M cars.

Made-to-measure wheels and tires.

In order to transfer the car’s dynamic potential to the road as effectively as possible, the development of specific tires for the all-new BMW M2 was incorporated into the axle construction from the beginning of its development. BMW M vehicle dynamic engineers know that a certain set of factors take priority whenever dealing with high-performance sports cars. For example, the front wheels have to cope with different types of forces in terms of lateral stability, directional stability while providing optimal steering feedback and steering precision. Likewise, the rear wheels deliver optimal traction, lateral stability and directional stability. After thorough testing development, the BMW M vehicle dynamic engineers decided to fit the all-new BMW M2 with aluminum wheels with mixed-size tires.

The lightweight 19-inch forged wheels (front axle: 9J x 19, rear axle 10J x 19) substantially reduce rotating and unsprung masses. Together with the exclusive 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 245/35 ZR 19 in the front and 265/35 ZR 19 at the rear. This set-up makes a considerable contribution to the outstanding dynamic properties of the all-new BMW M2 and, at the same time, ensure impressive everyday ride comfort.

Motor sport inspired, Nürburgring tested – high performance brakes.

The high-performance brakes of the all-new BMW M2 are also a product of motor sport and can be quickly identified by their brake calipers – front axle: four-piston fixed calipers, rear axle: two-piston fixed calipers – which are painted in a blue metallic finish and display the M logo at the front axle. In these M compound brakes the perforated and inner-vented brake disc ring is made from grey-cast iron for a massive 15 inch diameter rotor at the front axle and equally impressive 14.5 inch diameter at the rear axle.

M compound brakes guarantee powerful deceleration in all conditions and providing confidence inspiring fade resistance under hard track use. They are also significantly lighter than conventional braking systems, the brake disc hub is manufactured from aluminum as they reduce unsprung and rotating masses, which means they play a major role in further enhancing the dynamic ability of the all-new BMW M2.

M developed Electric Power Steering.

The Electric Power Steering of the all-new BMW M2 also instills the characteristic M driving feeling. The development of the system prioritized hallmark M attributes, such as direct steering feel, precise feedback at both the track and everyday driving, transmitting the driver with all the necessary information about the available grip at the tires. The integrated Servotronic function with M-specific characteristics, controls the level of steering assistance electronically according to the car’s speed. Via the Driving Dynamic Control switch the driver can adjust the steering’s power assistance at any time.

Unlike conventional hydraulic steering systems, the all-new BMW M2’s Electric Power Steering does not require any energy when the car is being driven in a straight line or standing still with the engine running. This enables an improvement in fuel economy of roughly 0.6 mpg.

Permanent, fully variable differential control.

The Active M Differential in the all-new BMW M2 optimizes traction and maximizes directional stability. This electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential takes traction and directional stability to a new level. The multi-plate limited-slip differential is proactively controlled with extremely high precision and speed. The locking effect can be varied between 0 and 100 percent according to the driving situation. Sensors including those of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system determine the car’s steering angle, accelerator position, brake pressure, engine torque, wheel speed and yaw rate. The control unit analyzes these inputs to detect any threat of traction loss on one side of the car and calculates the required locking effect, which is engaged by an electric motor. Full locking power of 1,843 lb-ft is available within 150 ms, allowing the system to prevent a wheel from spinning in extreme conditions on slippery road surfaces or when the two rear wheels are experiencing significant differences in friction coefficient.

In certain situations the Active M Differential even works proactively. When pulling away on slippery surfaces, the lock is closed by a defined percentage even before a wheel can start to spin, to ensure that both wheels develop equal slip at the same time. This optimizes traction and stability. The lock is also closed by the required percentage through enthusiastically driven corners, according to the levels of lateral and longitudinal acceleration. This prevents the low-traction inside wheel from starting to slip too quickly.

The permanent and infinitely variable differential control also increases agility, avoids understeer at turn-in and improves directional stability under braking and load changes.

Drifts on the race track.

The all-new BMW M2 is equipped with M Dynamic Mode (MDM), a sub-function of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). DSC effectively counteracts oversteer or understeer or a loss of traction by taking several measures (reducing engine power, braking individual wheels) to stabilize the car. However, in certain situations – e.g. sporty and dynamic driving on the race track – a greater degree of wheel slip can be an advantage.

For this reason M Dynamic Mode can be activated in the recommended track mode (SPORT+) or can be engaged with a short dab of the DSC button. The stabilizing measures familiar from DSC mode now intervene at a later stage, increasing the freedom available to drivers while still keeping an electronic safety system in action. The extra wheel slip enhances traction and therefore propulsion. More significant oversteer and understeer are possible, as are moderate, controlled drifts, but the Dynamic Stability Control active safety aids can still be relied on in critical situations.

Design.

An impressive amount of power, an athletic stance with bold design elements on the one hand, an unadulterated focus on sporting achievement and credible everyday practicality on the other. The all-new BMW M2 makes all the running in this high-performance sports car segment with its outstanding driving dynamics and agility that combine to deliver an extraordinary driving experience, allied with precise driver feedback.

The proud successor to the BMW 1 Series M Coupe showcases its impressive on-the-road presence from every angle. Its M-specific exterior features send out a whole-hearted statement of dynamics and agility, promising both a superior performance on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and convincing abilities on urban roads. In the grand tradition of BMW sport coupes, the all-new BMW M2 contains stylistic references to highlights from its forebears in BMW’s motor sport back-catalogue – such as the BMW 2002 turbo and legendary BMW 3.0 CSL.

Inspired by motor sport history.

A glance at the front end of the all-new BMW M2 reveals characteristic M design features. The signature BMW kidney grille, with its black-painted double bars replicating the design of the M double-spoke wheels, carries the BMW M logo. And the three-dimensional design of the grille has a “shark nose” feel to it. The modern take on the BMW twin circular headlights underlines the car’s forward-surging look and establishes a close stylistic connection with the grille. This further sharpens the focus of the all-new BMW M2 on the road ahead.

The large front apron with trapezoidal blades and the Air Curtains in the outer air intakes mimic the type of protruding spoilers that have been a familiar sight in motor sport down the years. For the BMW M2 they were inspired in particular by the BMW 3.0 CSL touring car racer. However, the large blades are not only a nod to the past. Form follows function is the message here, so as well as underlining the wide track of the all-new BMW M2 they divert part of the airflow through the wheel arches, while the Air Curtains guide the air effectively past the wheels. These two features work together to reduce air turbulence around the front wheel arches, cutting drag in the process. Moreover, the large air intakes cover the immense cooling air requirements of the high-performance engine. Thanks to the careful channeling of the airflow around and through elements of the car, drag has been reduced by five percent compared with the BMW 2 Series Coupe, despite the M2’s stronger cooling performance. The aerodynamic measures have also reduced lift by 35 percent and significantly improved aerodynamic balance at higher speeds.

Hallmark BMW proportions.

From the side the all-new BMW M2 is immediately identifiable as a fully-fledged member of the BMW M family. Compact dimensions and hallmark BMW proportions – i.e. a short front overhang, sweeping hood, long wheelbase and set-back greenhouse with classic BMW Hofmeister kink – are the starting point, with signature M design elements strengthening the dynamic expression. For instance, the newly interpreted BMW gills rearwards of the front wheel arches reference a feature first seen on the BMW 3.0 CSL. They send out a visual statement and set the swage line on its way towards the rear.

The side swage line – which begins rearwards of the front axle on the all-new BMW M2, then rises dynamically towards the tail and links the flanks of the car with its rear end – is a classical BMW design feature; for instance, in the case of the BMW 2002, it extended around the whole car. Other typical elements of the all-new BMW M2’s powerful appearance are the sculptural wing extensions at the front and rear axle, which immediately bring to mind the image of a muscular athlete with broad shoulders in a figure-hugging race suit and visually enhance the car’s standout dynamic abilities. However, these significant bodywork extensions (front: 2.1 in, rear: 3.1 in) are not only a stylistic statement, but necessary to accommodate the wider track and wheels – in this case 19-inch aluminum forged rims in familiar BMW M double-spoke design.

The broad rear end of the all-new BMW M2 highlights its firm grip on the asphalt, a quality further reinforced by the horizontal lines in the trunk lid and rear apron. The M rear spoiler on the trunk lid also accentuates the elevated dynamic aspirations of the all-new BMW M2.

The vertical reflectors at the outer extremes of the rear apron form a stylistic connection with the trapezoidal blades at the front end and once again emphasize the powerful appearance of the all-new BMW M2. This feeling is additionally strengthened by the L-shaped rear lights which have become a fixture of BMW models. Their horizontally arranged LEDs also underscore the athletic and imposing impression created by the all-new BMW M2.

The looks of the rear end are rounded off by another classical BMW M feature. The diffuser integrated into the rear apron is a clear reference to the racing abilities of the all-new BMW M2 and offers a nod to its optimized aerodynamics. Likewise integrated into the rear apron are the familiar quartet of hallmark BMW M exhaust tailpipes in high-gloss chrome, which draw renewed attention to the low visual center of gravity and point clearly to the dynamic performance of the all-new BMW M2.

Attention to sporty detail wherever you look.

The all-new BMW M2, is available in four exterior paint finishes: Long Beach Blue metallic, Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic and Mineral Grey metallic. As with all BMW M models, the interior architecture of the all-new BMW M2 also stands out with its pervasive driver focus and flawless ergonomics. The car is fitted with a host of BMW M-specific equipment details to reflect its prominent dynamic capabilities. The sports seats, in black Dakota leather with blue contrast stitching and an M logo in the backrests, have adjustable side bolsters to give the driver and front passenger optimum support through fast corners. An M footrest and knee pad on the center console for the driver continue the theme.

Instruments with BMW M2-specific dials and needles, a speedometer scale reaching round to 200 mph and a tachometer reading up to 8,000 rpm provide an indication of the car’s extraordinary performance potential as soon as you climb aboard. Familiar M equipment items in the all-new BMW M2 also include M logos on the tachometer, gearshift lever, door sill plates and M leather steering wheel with shift paddles. Other highlights of the interior are the all-new BMW M2 trim strip with surfacing in open pore carbon fiber and Alcantara for the door panel inserts, parking brake boot and shift lever boot (manual transmission only).

BMW ConnectedDrive enhances safety, comfort and entertainment.

New BMW M2 customers can also make use of innovative driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive.

The range of optional driver assistance systems available for the BMW M2 includes the Driving Assistant, which comprises features such as Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function, and Lane Departure Warning. The system warns the driver of potential collisions with pedestrians or other vehicles in urban areas and brakes the car automatically. Furthermore, it uses steering wheel vibrations to alert drivers if they stray from their lane unintentionally. Speed Limit Info flashes in the instrument cluster with the permitted top speed. The rear-view camera teams up with rear Park Distance Control to assist drivers with reverse parking and maneuvering. Plus, the standard Navigation System offers an ultra-sharp map display and the iDrive Touch Controller ensures the various functions are even easier to use.

Analyze your own driving style, film racing laps.

The optional ConnectedDrive Services open up the world of vehicle connectivity to customers, revealing intelligent services and features as well as an extensive range of apps. The GoPro app and the M Laptimer app from BMW M GmbH are geared towards enthusiastic drivers. The later enables them to improve on their driving on the track. This application records the car’s speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, engine’s speed, the gear engaged at any one time, the steering angle, the accelerator position and fuel consumption. All this allows drivers to subsequently analyze their inputs precisely corner by corner, gives them the option of comparing their laps with those of other drivers and enables them to easily share the data by e-mail or Facebook.

The GoPro app allows drivers to use a GoPro camera to film fast laps of the race track. BMW ConnectedDrive paves the way for all applications to be integrated seamlessly into the car. They can be operated using the iDrive Touch Controller and viewed in the Control Display.

Heritage – sporting talent runs in the family.

The all-new BMW M2 sees BMW M GmbH building on the success of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. Like its forebear, the BMW M2 also sets the benchmark in this high-performance sports car segment. The M2 doesn’t just have one direct predecessor, it continues the tradition of the legendary original BMW M3 – the E30 from 1986. It is also a close descendant of a car from 40 years ago that perfectly embodied the focus of BMW M GmbH on stand-out dynamic talent, unbeatable agility and unshakable car control no matter what the situation: the BMW 2002 turbo.

Head-turning ancestor.

When the BMW 2002 turbo was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 1973 as the new flagship model of the BMW 02 Series, the first Oil Crisis was just beginning. This backdrop was a major factor behind the growth of the BMW 2002 turbo into one of the most emotionally rich cars of its time. Today, it is a hugely coveted classic.

The BMW 2002 turbo was no available in the US but its impact on automotive history alone provides sound reasons for this current status. After all, the BMW 2002 turbo was the first series-produced German car to feature a turbocharger. Only available in Polaris metallic and Chamonix paint finishes, it was soon thrilling drivers with its stunning dynamic repertoire. The BMW engineers employed a Kugelfischer fuel injection system and KKK turbocharger to extract a strong 170 hp at 5,800 rpm (ECE Ratings) from the two-liter four-cylinder engine. Maximum torque of 177 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm was also more than impressive. That was enough to power the super-light BMW 2002 turbo, weighing in at just 2,440 pounds, from 0 to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 132 mph. The BMW 2002 turbo was therefore one of the fastest-moving sports cars on German roads at the time.

With its cutting-edge suspension featuring a MacPherson front axle, a semi-trailing arm rear axle, anti-roll bars front and rear and inner-vented front disc brakes, the BMW 2002 turbo led the way in the 1970s in terms of driving dynamics.

A legend of motor sport.

While the coveted BMW 2002 turbo never made it to American soil, the original BMW M3 (E30), the sports version of the compact BMW 3 Series range, was presented in 1986. The short 171.6 inches long, two-door sedan was conceived as a homologation model for the German Touring Car Championship and wore its ambitious sporting intentions proudly on its sleeve. With its pronounced fender flaring, a large front spoiler, side skirts, a lowered rear apron and a prominent spoiler rising up from the rear end, the first BMW M3 had the exterior presence of a finely-tuned athlete. A more heavily raked rear window than that of a standard BMW 3 Series and a raised boot lid made from glass-fiber-reinforced plastic brought further aerodynamic gains.

The BMW M3 was powered by a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder inline engine featuring four-valve technology, which developed 192 hp at 6,750 rpm and served up peak torque of 177 lb-ft at 4,750 rpm. It sent this power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox with a dogleg first gear. The BMW M3 took just 6.7 seconds to sprint from 0 to 62 mph and recorded a top speed of 146 mph.

These enviable statistics underpinned the ascent of the original BMW M3 to legendary status in motor racing circles. It won the touring car world championship in its first season on the race track. And the first M3 remains the world’s most successful touring car racer to this day, having notched up more than 1,500 race victories, including four wins in a row in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

Powerful predecessor.

The first M car based on the BMW 1 Series arrived in 2011 in the form of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. This exclusive M vehicle was powered by a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder inline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and developed output of 335 hp at 5,900 rpm. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe made its peak torque of 332 lb-ft available between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm. The 0 to 60 mph dash was all over in just 4.7 seconds and top speed was an electronically limited 155 mph.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe came as standard with lightweight M Sport suspension, a variable M mechanical differential lock, M compound brakes and 19-inch aluminum wheels with mixed-size tires. Track width was increased over the standard BMW 1 Series Coupe by 2.36 inches at the front and 1.57 inches at the rear.

Stylistic changes to the BMW 1 Series M Coupe included a new front apron with larger air intakes in response to the car’s increased cooling requirement, as well as wing extensions and a new rear apron. The interior was upgraded in familiar M style with leather-covered M sports seats, an M sports steering wheel, interior trim strips in Alcantara and BMW M logos.
