Richmond Hill, ON.  Since its introduction in 2002, the BMW Z4 Roadster has been thrilling enthusiasts with its unique combination of classic proportions, purist driving experience, and sporty dynamics. Today, BMW announces the Z4 Final Edition – a special Z4 M40i commemorating the end of production of the iconic 2-seat Roadster. The Z4 Final Edition will be characterized by its exclusive BMW Individual paint, unique interior accents, and commemorative badging on the door sill plates.

The BMW Z4 Final Edition will be produced in limited numbers from February to April of 2026 in a single, well-equipped configuration. Customers need only choose between a 6-speed manual or 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Regardless of transmission, the MSRP for the Final Edition will be $99,900 CAD.

Distinctive looks for an unmistakable personality.
Fans will instantly recognize the BMW Z4 Final Edition by its exclusive BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic paint – a colour that highlights the Z4’s unique design characteristics and dynamic flair. The special paint is subtly contrasted by the standard high-gloss black trim to the mirror caps, kidney grill, lower air intake, air breathers, and exhaust finishers. The exterior design package of the Final Edition also incorporates a Black soft top and red calipers on the standard M Sport brakes.

Every Z4 Final Edition is fitted with a staggered wheel and tire package. At the front, 19-inch Double-Spoke Bicolour 800M wheels are fitted with 255/35 R19 high-performance tires. At the back, 20-inch wheels are fitted with 285/30 R20 tires.

Customers who choose the 6-speed manual transmission will also receive special chassis tuning developed especially to accompany this gearbox. Enhancements include unique auxiliary springs at the front and rear axles and a specially reinforced anti-roll bar clamp fitted at the front. Both the mapping for electronic control of the rear dampers and the software for the variable sport steering are reconfigured. The traction control and M Sport differential also receive unique control logic.

The distinctive contrasting red stitching selected for the Z4 Final Edition provides a literal common thread that ties together the instrument panel, centre console, door panels, and M Sport seats, which are trimmed in Vernasca Leather and Alcantara. The floor mats feature red piping and the special door sill plates are inscribed with “Z4 FINAL EDITION”. The seatbelts are trimmed in the M tricolour.

The Z4 Final Edition comes as standard with a full range of comfort, convenience, and safety features, including the Premium Enhanced Package, which contains the Harman Kardon surround sound system.
 
The history of the BMW Z4: Launch of the first generation in 2002.
The BMW Z4 is part of a long tradition of open-top two‑seater sports cars. The lineage includes icons such as the BMW 328 Roadster, the BMW 507, and the BMW Z8.

The BMW Z4 had its premiere in autumn 2002, as the direct successor to the BMW Z3 launched in 1995. And, like its predecessor, the BMW roadster known internally as the E85 series was produced at the BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina.
 
With its long hood and short trunk, the design of the BMW Z4 signaled power and sporting prowess. In the cabin, the low seating position just ahead of the rear axle made for a highly engaging driving experience. The BMW Z4 set new standards with a torsional stiffness previously unmatched in the convertible and roadster segment. Its supreme agility was due in large part to its 50/50 weight distribution. The BMW Z4 M Roadster was the first generation’s range-topper. Fitted with the 330 hp six-cylinder in-line engine from the BMW M3, it could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.0 seconds.

The second BMW Z4 generation: Unchanged dynamic appeal, electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop as standard.
In December 2008, BMW introduced the second generation of the Z4 to the world. The new two-seater, known internally as the E89, combined classic proportions with leading-edge engineering.

Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the new Z4 was the electro-hydraulically retractable hardtop made up of two roof sections. Featuring an aluminum shell design, the hardtop was included as standard and could be opened or closed at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. With the hardtop in place, the BMW Z4 offered the refined comfort of a sporty premium coupé. The interior of the new BMW Z4 had gained much over the first-generation model in terms of headroom and elbow room. In addition, this marked the first time the roadster used the BMW iDrive infotainment system.

BMW premiered the third – and current – generation of the BMW Z4 in August 2018 on the reviewing stand at the Lodge at Pebble Beach at the opening of Monterey Car Week. The BMW Z4 world premiere revealed a modern interpretation of the classic open-top sports car. A premium roadster boasting an electrically operated fabric soft top, sporty handling, and a purist, driver-focused interior design. This was complemented by premium-quality driver assistance, infotainment, and connectivity features. Unique in the segment is the three-litre straight-six engine with TwinPower Turbo technology found in the BMW Z4 M40i, which has been offered with a manual transmission since 2024.

Munich/Bolzano. Longing for summer makes us look south. More than ever, the new BMW 4 Series Convertible and the new BMW Z4 invite you to discover the ideal place in the sun. Just like the new BMW 4 Series Coupé, the open-top four-seater comes with fresh design accents and numerous refined details. The Roadster, with its new drive concept, encourages drivers to tackle winding mountain passes on their way to southern climes. A tour of three countries - from the foothills of the Bavarian Alps through the Austrian state of Tyrol to the edge of the Dolomites in northern Italy - gives a perfect impression of how driving pleasure can be experienced in BMW M automobiles with in-line six-cylinder engines with different characters.

At the start of the journey to Lake Tegernsee, a grey veil lies over the landscape. Gusty winds, low-hanging clouds, windscreen wipers in constant use - this is the route along the southern shore of the lake. Shortly afterwards, we pass the traditional spa town of Kreuth before reaching the border crossing to Austria, which, almost 30 years after joining the Schengen Agreement, is hardly recognisable as a former border post.

8-speed Steptronic and BMW xDrive meet manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The first highlight of the route is the almost ten-kilometre-long "coastal road" along Lake Achensee. By now, the in-line six-cylinder engines of the M Performance models have reached operating temperature. The engines in the new BMW M440i xDrive Convertible generate 275 kW/374 hp (consumption combined: 8.7 litres/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions: 197 g/km according to WLTP, CO₂ class: G) and in the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé (consumption combined: 8.5 litres/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions: 192 g/km according to WLTP, CO₂ class: G). The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive ensure that all this power is transferred to the road with maximum confidence.

The BMW Z4 M40i in the Pure Impulse Edition (consumption combined: 8.7 litres/100 km (62 miles); combined CO₂ emissions: 197 g/km according to WLTP, CO₂ class: G): The 250 kW/340 hp engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission for the first time. The manual transmission features M-specific components in the gear wheel set and shaft area, as well as an external gear shift mechanism that been specially designed exclusively for the Roadster and its six-cylinder in-line engine. The torque is transmitted to the rear wheels in the classic manner.

If you 'change gear' at Maurach in time to take the right-hand turnoff, you will soon reach the village of Jenbach with direct access to the Inn Valley motorway. But as the first rays of sunshine break through the clouds, we spontaneously decide to take the parallel country road to Innsbruck. Shortly after the Jenbacher Museum, we take an extra lap around the roundabout. At the push of a button, the soft tops open.

New: Laserlight rear lights for Coupé and Convertible, Roadster with axle-specific wheel dimensions.

A brief stopover in the Tyrolean capital provides an opportunity to take a look at the latest design innovations for the Convertible, Coupé and Roadster. The two four-seaters now feature particularly striking headlights and Laserlight rear lights in the style of the special edition BMW M4 CSL, as well as new paintwork. In addition to the exclusive Frozen Deep Green metallic paint finish, the BMW Z4 Pure Impulse Edition is available in a choice of seven other paint finishes. In addition to the high-gloss black exterior mirror caps, the dark-coloured M light alloy wheels also invite you to take a closer look when viewed from the side. They measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The axle-specific wheel dimensions, used for the first time on the Roadster, are the most visible part of a comprehensive chassis modification. The positive effects on cornering behaviour will become apparent later.

Driving through Innsbruck, the Bergisel ski jump on the southern outskirts of the city repeatedly catches your eye. It is traditionally the third stop on the annual Four Hills Tournament. Its jump tower was completely rebuilt in 2002 and 2003. The plans were drawn up by architect Zeha Hadid, who also designed the BMW Group's central building in Leipzig, which was completed a year later.

But winter sports are naturally out of the question today. Instead, the old Brenner Pass road is ideal for relaxed cruising, with the occasional short burst of speed and plenty of twists and turns. It is about 35 kilometres to the Austrian-Italian border and the almost 1,400 metre high Brenner Pass. The road was the main north-south link between Austria and Italy until the Brenner motorway was built and opened to traffic along its entire length in 1971. If you take the historic route today, you can admire the Europe Bridge along the way. At up to 190 metres above the ground, Austria's highest bridge carries the motorway over the Wipp Valley between Patsch and Schönberg.

Driving over the Brenner Pass is the ideal foretaste of the most challenging and eventful stage of the Three Countries Tour. From Sterzing, the shortest route to Merano leads over the Jaufenpass at an altitude of just under 2 100 metres. The 50-kilometre route, with its numerous serpentine bends, makes it particularly interesting to compare the two driving concepts.

On the winding mountain passes, the Coupé, Convertible and Roadster show their individual strengths.

Comfortable driving pleasure quickly turns into an ambitious search for the ideal line on the winding tarmac in the BMW M440i xDrive Convertible and BMW M440i xDrive Coupé. The 8-speed sports transmission Steptronic always finds the right gear for dynamic acceleration out of the bend, even after abrupt braking manoeuvres before a particularly tight bend.

The design of the BMW xDrive system, with its emphasis on the rear wheels, and the M Sport differential in the final drive also help to ensure that the power is always directed to where it is most effective for maximum driving dynamics. The sporty driving experience and expressive sound of the in-line six-cylinder engine are complemented by magnificent panoramic views. After every bend there is a new view of Alpine peaks and green valleys.

The BMW Z4 M40i Pure Impulse Edition leaves it to the driver to select the right gear for the ideal engine speed. The pedals and gearshift lever can also be used to compose a fascinating soundtrack, which flows directly from the exhaust system's trapezoidal tailpipes into the interior of the two-seater.

Like the drive concept, the model-specific suspension technology is designed to emphasise the Roadster's purist character more than ever before. In addition to the exclusive wheel combination, a stiffer anti-roll bar clamp on the front axle, specific additional springs and modified characteristic maps for the electronically controlled shock absorbers of the Adaptive M Chassis are used. In the hairpin bends before and after the summit, the new software settings for the variable sport steering, traction control and M Sport differential are particularly effective. In the BMW Z4 M40i Pure Impulse Edition, the direct steering into the bend and the increased directional stability during the next acceleration phase ultimately ensure an unadulterated performance experience characterised by purist driving pleasure.

Beyond St. Leonhard, the sports programme comes to an end. On its south-western section, the Jaufen road winds its way down into the Passeier Valley in wide bends. The spa town of Merano is soon reached. At this point, at the latest, you will begin to feel the hoped-for Mediterranean flair. The surrounding area is full of opportunities for cycling, hiking and climbing. The BMW 4 Series Convertible, the BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW Z4 continue on the MeBo, the main road that links Merano with Bolzano. Passing Lana, Terlan and Eppan, it leads through the Etschtal valley directly to the South Tyrolean capital. Once there, the traveller is faced with a choice: back to the cold north, or further south towards the sun? As long as the soft top is open, the choice is not all that difficult.

Richmond Hill, ON.  Fans of driving pleasure in its purest form can look forward to a new arrival from BMW crafted especially for them: the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i is available for the very first time with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The pairing of the manual gearbox, which is a no-cost option in Canada, with the 382-hp TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine forms the heart of an enticing equipment package that emphasizes the two-seater’s focus on delivering an exhilarating open-top driving experience.

The 2025 BMW Z4 M40i Roadster “Handschalter” (German for “hand shift” and the internal working name of the project used by the small team that brought the vehicle to life) brings a retuned chassis and is available with mixed-size M light-alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front axle and 20 inches at the rear. Special design features for both the exterior and interior are also part of the option.

The BMW roadster: giving a successful tradition a modern twist. 

The history of roadsters from BMW is built on a passion for sporty driving pleasure and success on the race track. It stretches all the way back to the company’s earliest days as a carmaker and endures in modern form in the shape of the BMW Z4.

An inline 6-cylinder engine, manual gearbox, and rear-wheel drive defined the driving experience in the original BMW 328, which capped its debut public appearance in 1936 with victory in the Eifelrennen race at the Nürburgring. In later generations, evolutions of this arrangement have continued to power the brand’s roadsters; the BMW Z1, which was unveiled in 1987 after being developed as an innovation testbed by BMW Technik, and the BMW Z3 presented in 1995. And the first two generations of the BMW Z4 also embodied the same recipe for delivering exhilarating driving pleasure under open skies.

A classic combination: six cylinders and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The 3-litre unit in the BMW Z4 M40i owes its free-revving performance, instantaneous power delivery, and silky smoothness to the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology. With 382 hp on tap between 5,800 and 6,500 rpm, and of 369 lb-ft of torque available between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm, the engine generates impressive acceleration throughout the rev range.

Now, in addition to the familiar 8-speed Steptronic transmission, the task of transmitting that power to the road can be handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox developed specifically for the BMW Z4 M40i. It is a BMW modular transmission that has been modified for the B58B30O1 engine’s output, incorporating M-specific components for the gear set and shafts. The outer shift mechanism comprising the shift lever, its guide, and the connection to the transmission, has been specially engineered for use in the BMW Z4 M40i and delivers the mechanical feel for which BMW manuals have been praised. The direct flow of power between engine and transmission combined with the driver’s central involvement in gear changes reinforces the visceral bond between driver and vehicle. A precisely defined shift action enables the gears to be changed swiftly and intuitively.

The manual-equipped BMW Z4 M40i can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, on to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Refined chassis tuning, mixed-size wheels for the first time on the BMW Z4.

Variable sport steering, M Sport brakes, an M Sport differential at the rear axle, and adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers all remain standard equipment on the Z4 M40i regardless of the gearbox chosen. However, those who opt for the manual gearbox benefit from unique chassis tuning intended to sharpen responses and elevate the overall driving experience. Exclusive chassis technology created for the manual option includes unique auxiliary springs at the front and rear axles and a specially-reinforced anti-roll bar clamp fitted at the front. Both the mapping for electronic control of the rear dampers and the software for the variable sport steering have been reconfigured. Finally, the traction control and M Sport differential incorporate model-specific control logic.

For the first time, staggered-size wheels and tires are fitted to the Z4 M40i when the manual gearbox is chosen. The new bi-colour M light-alloy wheels in a double-spoke design measure 19 inches at the front axle and 20 inches at the rear. Previously reserved for high-performance models from BMW M GmbH, this setup enables optimum transfer of drive power to the road while providing a progressive and predictable transmission of lateral forces in hard cornering.

Individual colours and trim set the special edition Z4 apart.

In addition to the manual gearbox, the refined chassis tuning, and the combination of 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M light-alloy wheels, the option also adds distinct design features to the exterior of the BMW Z4 M40i. They include special badging and specially designed flaps for managing the airflow around the rear wheel arches.

The vehicle also receives two new colours. San Remo Green Metallic is now offered on all variants of the Z4 in Canada, while BMW Individual Frozen Deep Green Metallic is exclusive to the M40i.

Inside, customers can also choose from five shades of  Vernasca leather upholstery, including Cognac with unique black M piping complemented by interior trim in black high-gloss, which is exclusive to the 6-speed manual. Black Alcantara combined with Black Vernasca leather with blue contrast stitching is also available.

Munich. For classic car fans in North America, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has long been the perfect season-opening event. And the 28th running of the spring get-together shone the spotlight on exquisite rarities from days gone by, as well new models from Bavaria. BMW and BMW M GmbH joined forces to present the new editions of their Sports Activity Vehicles and Sports Activity Coupés – produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Introduced to the public for first time were the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6, plus the BMW X5 M Competition high-performance models, with their extensively upgraded design and technology.

Precise design modifications, including new headlights and the latest version of the fully digital control/operation system BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display, bring fresh cutting-edge appeal to the exterior and interior of the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6. And taking driving pleasure to new heights are the new and more powerful drive system for the BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid model and the likewise new engines with 48V mild hybrid technology fitted in all other model variants. The new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition have a visibly honed exterior and, for the first time, a shared front-end design. The cabins of both vehicles feature state-of-the-art technology in the form of the BMW Curved Display including the BMW iDrive control/operation system with M-specific screen content. Their extensively modified V8 engines now also work with 48V technology and deliver their maximum output of 460 kW/625 hp with even greater urgency and in even more impressive style.

All four models handed their world premieres at Amelia Island also benefit from a significantly expanded portfolio of systems for automated driving and parking. For example, the cars can now be parked and complete manoeuvres carried out from outside the vehicle using an Apple iPhone.

BMW Group Classic glitters with racing legends and design icons.

Joining the fray alongside the sporty new arrivals from BMW and BMW M at Amelia Island was a true legend of motor sport – the BMW 3.0 CSL. BMW Group Classic brought the fabled racer to the show to mark a very special anniversary. Exactly 50 years ago, Toine Hezemans (NL) and Dieter Quester (AT) drove the 3.0 CSL to victory in the touring car (“Tourisme Spéciale”) class at the Le Mans 24 Hours race. The reliability of the 3.3-litre engine in the number 51 car played a key role here, as the pairing also finished 11th in the overall standings at the prestigious endurance classic.

At Amelia Island, the 3.0 CSL racing coupé took turns on display in the BMW Group Classic space with the series-produced version of the two-door car also known as the “Batmobile” (on account of its spectacular rear wing). This final development stage of the BMW 3.0 CSL with 3.2-litre engine producing 206 hp, of which only 167 examples were made, is also celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Adding the cherry to the cake of the BMW Group Classic line-up was the BMW 507. The roadster’s reputation as one of the most iconic BMW cars of all time endures to this day.

BMW Z3 and BMW Z4: hallmark BMW roadster feeling across four generations.

The run-up to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance saw almost three decades of roadster history reunited. A road trip through Florida brought together a handful of BMW Z3 and BMW Z4 models from four generations. The line-up of cars selected for the tour from southern Florida to the venue for the classic car event in the north-east of the Sunshine State ranged from the BMW Z3 to the latest BMW Z4, which recently gained a fresh round of design and equipment updates.

The BMW Z3 was the first model built for the global market at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina. The roadster was unveiled in 1995 and made its first public appearance in the blockbuster James Bond movie GoldenEye. It remained on sale until 2002, when it was replaced by the first BMW Z4. With its eye-catching lines and cutting-edge equipment details, the Z4 put clear ground between itself and its predecessor. Seven years further on, the second-generation BMW Z4 provided a fresh interpretation of the roadster art – with its elegantly sweeping lines and, most notably, a retractable metal hardtop which could be lowered and raised again electrohydraulically at the touch of a button. The third generation of the Z4 has been putting smiles on the faces of open-top driving pleasure aficionados since 2018. Crisp proportions, a classical – and electrically powered – soft-top roof and a new level of dynamic talent set it apart from the crowd, as does the unique-in-its-segment straight-six engine of the range-topping model.

The latest version of the open-top two-seater incorporates a raft of detail updates, brings fresh design accents to the exterior, expands the range of standard equipment and adds new items to the options list. The 2023 Z4 sDrive30i and M40i have the ideal elements with which to build on the model’s success story as both a symbol of pure driving pleasure in BMW’s product line and the global leader in its market segment.

Continuing the successful roadster tradition at BMW.

The history of BMW roadsters as the embodiment of driving pleasure on the road and success on the racetrack extends back to the company’s formative years as a carmaker. And the brand’s open-top two-seaters have also represented important milestones in the development of BMW in the more recent past. The BMW Z1 unveiled in 1987 was developed by BMW Technik GmbH as a showcase for innovation with its front-mid-engine design, slide-down doors, steel monocoque, and plastic body panels. Some 8,000 examples were delivered to customers between 1988 and 1991, and today each is a coveted collector’s item. The BMW Z3 introduced in 1995 was the brand’s first model to be produced exclusively at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina. The BMW Z3 was introduced to the public on the silver screen – as James Bond’s service vehicle in the film GoldenEye. 
The BMW Z4 has delivered open-top driving pleasure for one driver and one passenger for 20 years now. The first generation of the roadster was revealed at the 2002 Mondial de l’Automobile show in Paris. It was followed four years later by the hardtop BMW Z4 Coupe, out of which a GT3 racing car was developed that enjoyed considerable success in the Nürburgring endurance racing series.
A retractable hardtop appeared on the second-generation BMW Z4 roadster. Flowing lines, a long hood, and a passenger compartment set far back were the defining elements of the two-seater’s appearance. On the racetrack, the BMW Z4 picked up on the success of its predecessor with another GT3 variant. Customer racing teams powered to victory in the 24-hour races in Dubai and at Spa-Francorchamps.
The current BMW Z4 has been on the market since 2019, and over 55,000 units of the third-generation roadster have been sold worldwide. From day one, it has been by far the highest-selling model in a class populated exclusively by German premium brands, and it has consistently increased its market share ever since.

More dynamic than ever: Standard M Sport package, BMW kidney grille with a new design.

The standard M Sport Package on the Z4 sDrive30i includes design elements that emphasize the roadster’s width and powerful stance. They include the three-section air intakes in the front apron familiar from other M models, distinctive side-sill contouring and a rear apron with bold edging at either side. The side air intakes – which guide the oncoming air to the air curtains, reducing turbulence in the wheel arches – have been restyled. And detail updates have been made to the design of the BMW kidney grille, with a horizontal inner structure adding to the impression of width at the front.

Exclusive 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, three new exterior colours.

Newly optional are 19-inch M light-alloy wheels designed exclusively for the BMW Z4. The V-spoke design, Jet Black matte finish and burnished rim edge are at once striking and sophisticated. The 19-inch M light-alloy wheels are fitted with 255/35 ZR19 tires at the front and 275/35 ZR19 tire at the rear.
The range of optional exterior paint finishes for the BMW Z4 has been revised, and now includes Thundernight metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, and Skyscraper Grey metallic for the first time.
The headlights’ new dark inserts imbue the front of the Z4 with a discreetly sporting aura and compliment the optional Extended Shadowline Trim.

The design of the BMW Z4 interior is defined by a driver-focused cockpit layout, sport seats with integral head restraints, clear, forward-facing lines and minimal decorative surfaces. Munich. He loves analogue black-and-white photography and tattoos – clearly, Brooklyn Beckham is as difficult to pigeonhole as the new BMW Z4, which combines the classic vehicle concept of the roadster with cutting-edge technology. And there’s one thing the two particularly have in common: they are always keen to cause a stir. BMW brought them together in Coachella Valley near Palm Springs in Southern California: the young, up-and-coming photographer and the two-seater convertible that has now thrilled fans of open-top driving for several months. The photo shoot in the Southern Californian desert was the first official stage of a long-term collaboration which aims to tap into new perspectives on current BMW models. Already attracting a growing international fan community, Brooklyn Beckham captures his motifs authentically through the eyes of the young generation, in the individual style of a constantly inquisitive, ambitious artist with an enthusiasm for automobiles.

For Beckham, the upcoming BMW projects present a welcome opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities in an additional field of photography, while at the same time enabling him to explore his own fascination with sports-style cars. The first encounter between Beckham and the BMW brand was itself a noteworthy occasion. The young photographer visited the BMW Group Design Studio last summer and was able to take some initial shots of the BMW Concept Z4. Together with the design team he also modified his own personal vehicle. There is no doubt about it – the new BMW Z4 definitely struck a nerve with Brooklyn Beckham: “cool and dangerous” were the words he used to describe it – and “the most mind-blowing car I've ever seen.”

A few months later, the unconventional artist and the distinctive model came together again for the first project as part of the collaboration with BMW. The assignment was likewise unique: Brooklyn Beckham was to use the shoot not only to portray the BMW Z4 but himself as well. He set to work in December with his favourite camera, a Hasselblad 503 – the young photo designer’s constant travel companion. The time of year would have been daunting for an outdoor shoot schedule in Central Europe – but in the Californian desert, with an average temperature of 21 degrees and at least five hours of sunlight per day, it was a sheer pleasure to work outdoors. Beckham: “The lighting conditions were fantastic.”

This is hardly surprising: even in California, Coachella is known as the “City of Eternal Sunshine”. It is also where the private race track Thermal Club is located, its asphalt trail winding its way through the desert landscape like a grey river – the perfect setting for the kind of creative process Beckham thrives on. Dressed in T-shirt and chinos, the photographer circled his subject from all sides, studiously set his sights on details of the vehicle and the surrounding landscape and portrayed himself and the BMW Z4 using the cable release – as well as skateboarding around the roadster and on the race track. Each picture speaks volumes about the amount of fun he had on the job.

“I take a photo whenever I see anything interesting.” Brooklyn Beckham’s description of his approach may be simple and modest, but he goes about his work with enormous diligence and expertise. This is reflected in the pictures he took in Coachella, too: they give the BMW Z4 a very distinctive presence against the contrasting effects of the soft Californian winter sunlight, the pastel shades of the surroundings and the bleak background of the rugged landscape.

And this is precisely where the collaboration between BMW and Brooklyn Beckham is due to continue: another photo shoot has already been planned to coincide with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival – a longstanding a cultural highlight in Southern California. BMW i is the official festival partner, and the young photographer already has a fixed date with the BMW i8 Roadster designed especially for the occasion. Fans can look forward to the angles, light and colours Beckham will use to portray the open-top plug-hybrid sports car.

The BMW Z4 was first launched in 2002, the third model generation has been on the market since the end of 2018. Following the unveiling of the all-new BMW Z4 M40i First Edition Roadster at Pebble Beach Lodge to kick-off Monterey car week, BMW is pleased to announce the introduction of the 2019 BMW Z4 sDrive30i Roadster, scheduled to arrive at Canadian BMW Retailers in March of 2019, and the 2020 BMW Z4 M40i Roadster, which will follow later in 2019.

Agility, performance and precise handling have always been top priorities for the Z4 family but the new two-seater’s body, powertrain and chassis have received the greatest amount of development work to make sure the new Z4 Roadster arrives with a genuine sports car performance pedigree.

If the chassis is the legs and muscles of a top performing athlete then the engines are the heart and lungs. The all-new BMW Z4 Roadster has gone through a thoroughly complete training program and features two new powerful TwinPower Turbocharged engines and brand new front and rear suspensions developed specifically for the Roadster.

The rigid body structure, chassis mounting points, along with the intelligent lightweight design and optimized aerodynamic properties deliver the perfect platform to provide the driver with a Roadster capable of tackling the most challenging tracks while at the same time providing increased levels of comfort for top down cruising along the coast.

The new BMW Z4 Roadster has a low-slung, sporty and athletic appearance when viewed from any angle. The proportions have grown in every area over its predecessor: 85 mm longer, 75 mm wider and 13 mm taller. The wheelbase has been shortened by 26 mm which, combined with the notably wider tracks (+1609 mm in front and +1616 mm in rear) and a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, all contribute to the much enhanced vehicle agility.

Z4 sDrive30i: More power from the new four-cylinder engine.

To complement the new chassis’ increased capabilities, the new BMW Z4 Roadster arrives in 2019 first with a new, more powerful 2.0 liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbocharged motor featuring an increase of 15 hp and an impressive 35 lb-ft of torque over its predecessor. The updated BMW engine package include a High Precision Injection system whose maximum pressure has been increased to 350 bar / 5,076 psi. The TwinScroll turbocharged engine under the hood of the new BMW Z4 sDrive30i delivers an output of 255 hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm, with peak torque of 295 lb-ft. available from 1,550 up to 4,400 rpm. The result is a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 5.3 seconds.

Z4 M40i: BMW M Performance model with straight-six engine.

For those seeking even more exhilarating performance, the all-new 2020 BMW Z4 M40i Roadster’s 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine delivers instantaneous response, an appetite for revs and smoothness while offering an increase of 47 hp over its predecessor. The new 6-cylinder engine’s standout features include a water-cooled exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, quicker TwinScroll turbocharger response and direct injection technology which now works at increased maximum pressure of 350 bar / 5,076 psi. Drivers have 382 hp at their disposal between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm, plus 369 lb-ft. of peak torque from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. The BMW Z4 M40i Roadster sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

Both models of the new BMW Z4 Roadster, sDrive30i and M40i, come equipped with a standard eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel. Besides a wider ratio spread, the latest version of the automatic transmission offers even sportier gear shifts. The shorter ratios for the transmission’s lower gears improve acceleration and the unit’s improved internals allow it to operate more efficiently. The transmission features Launch Control for accelerating hard from a standing start with maximum traction. The eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission fitted in the BMW Z4 M40i has been configured with M-specific shift characteristics to complement the straight-six engine’s power delivery.

New chassis: increased agility and comfort.

The chassis technology in the new BMW Z4 Roadster has been developed to deliver the best possible agility and handling dynamics, thanks to a newly designed double-joint spring strut suspension at the front and a new five-link suspension in the rear, a first for a BMW Roadster. This chassis combination offers the best balance between sports car handling and ride comfort. The front suspension sub frame and control arm mounting points are extremely rigid, which lends to precise cornering characteristics as well as having a beneficial effect on the drivetrain’s acoustics. The sports car tuning of the front suspension dynamics aids the new Z4 Roadster’s steering precision. Aluminum control arms and swivel bearings reduce unsprung weight resulting in superior agility and efficiency. The new rear suspension also employs a lightweight aluminum/steel design. The large supporting base and very rigid structure of the rear axle subframe as well as the bracing used for connecting it to the body result in extremely precise wheel guidance.

Another standard feature is the sport steering with variable power assist and ratio. This particular version of the power steering system is designed to promote not just straight-line stability in the new BMW Z4 Roadster, but also provide precise feedback during cornering and effortless low-speed maneuvering.

The car’s impressively sporty handling characteristics are aided by powerful lightweight braking and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems, whose wealth of features includes the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC). The standard Performance Control function gives the new BMW Z4 Roadster even nimbler handling by varying the distribution of drive torque to the rear wheels according to the situation at hand.

M Performance model drivetrain

The Adaptive M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes and M Sport differential, standard on the all-new BMW Z4 M40i Roadster and optional on the Z4 sDrive30i, raise the car’s already impressive handling bar to even greater heights. With these chassis systems on board, the differences in the car’s responses between the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, selected with the Driving Experience Control switch, are particularly noticeable. Featuring a 10 mm lower ride height, the Adaptive M Sport suspension includes electronically controlled dampers, which offer both comfortable and more aggressive ride and handling dynamics. The electronically controlled M Sport rear differential gives the handling of the new BMW Z4 an even sharper sporting edge. An electric motor generates a locking effect in the differential that equalizes torque distribution between the inside and outside rear wheels when cornering, making it possible to power out of bends with greater momentum. The active differential lock also works effectively in reducing both understeer and oversteer.

The standard 18-inch light-alloy wheels and optional 19-inch items are all shod with mixed-size tires. The wider rear tires’ increased potential for directional control was factored into the chassis tuning for all variants of the all-new Z4 Roadster.

The new BMW Z4 Roadster isn’t just about classical roadster proportions and spirited driving – it is imbued with state-of-the-art features to pamper both driver and passenger alike. The options list contains a myriad of ways to customize the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster to suit the owner’s personal style.

The array of cutting-edge driver assistance systems available for the Z4 Roadster is unrivalled in this segment. They are designed to optimize specific aspects of comfort and safety and relieve the strain on the driver during both long-distance journeys and in city traffic. The list of options includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, the Lane Change and Lane Departure Warning systems, as well as a Parking Assistant including Back-Up Assistant. The new BMW Z4 is also the first Roadster to be made available with an optional BMW Head-Up Display.

Exterior: a new design language .

A number of signature details form the defining features of the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster. The combination of very notable lines and a clean-cut surface design create a very distinctive take on sporting roadster. A sculpted front end with large air intakes, a low, broad BMW kidney grill and headlights positioned at the outer edges showcase BMW’s new design direction. The new mesh-design BMW kidney grill combines a track-inspired honeycomb pattern with a three-dimensional structure, whose elements have a vertical arrangement reminiscent of traditional BMW kidney grill bars. The design of the headlight units are a first for the brand, with the two light sources positioned one above the other. The vertical design is cut off at the top by a diagonal accent strip with integral direction indicator. The new BMW Z4 Roadster is equipped with LED headlights as standard and Adaptive LED headlights available as an option.

The long hood with arrow-shaped contour lines directed at the kidney grill straddles the wheel arches in a “clamshell” style characteristic of classical sports cars of the past. An upper character line runs from the bottom of the hood to the tail lights. A second, lower character line emerges from the large air vents behind the front wheel arches. This interplay of surfaces mimics the flow of air sweeping along the new Z4.

The trunk lid’s integrated spoiler and the slender, horizontally arranged light assemblies in the BMW brand’s customary L-shape help to give the tail of the new BMW Z4 Roadster a wide, road-hugging appearance. The rear end’s powerful look is strengthened by the side surrounds and the trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes flanking the eye-catching diffuser.

Individuality

There is a choice of eight colors for the exterior, including Frozen Grey for M Sport models. The interior choices include both SensaTec and Vernasca leather with a special Vernasca/Alcantara upholstery available for M Sport vehicles. The soft-top roof comes in Black as standard and Anthracite with silver effect as an option. It is electrically operated and can be opened or closed in the space of ten seconds, at speeds up to 50 km/h.

Climate Control and audio: a personal sense of well-being

The driver-focused cockpit design and clear arrangement of the controls help drivers of the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster concentrate on the main job at hand; enjoying the journey. The engine Start/Stop button has been incorporated into the control panel on the center console, whose styled surface is also home to the gear selector, the iDrive Controller, the Driving Experience Control switch, as well as the Electric Parking Brake and the switch for the electrically operated soft-top roof. The optional two-zone automatic climate control allows the temperature and ventilation settings to be adjusted separately for the driver and passenger side. Automatically dimming and folding exterior mirrors are available, as is Comfort Access. With this feature fitted, the soft-top can be operated using the car key.

The optional ambient lighting brings a soothing mood to the cabin. LED fiber-optic lighting in the instrument panel accent strips provide indirect illumination of the center console’s edging. The color and brightness of the lighting effect are adjusted in the iDrive menu. The standard hi-fi audio system offers a total of ten speakers and output of 205 watts. For a more impressive aural experience, there is the Harman Kardon surround sound system complete with digital amplifier, 12 speakers and 464-watts.

Model-specific seats and over 50 per cent more trunk capacity.

The new BMW Z4 comes standard with electric sports seats featuring integral head rests. The seat rails have been extended in length by 23 mm over those in the predecessor model, allowing the seats to be adjusted over a greater range. The optional M sports seats include electro-pneumatic backrest width adjustment to optimize lateral support through high-speed corners.

The practicality of the new BMW Z4 Roadster has been increased by a storage space behind the seats with a retaining net, large cupholders under the center armrest cover (which folds open in two sections) and roomy door pockets. The trunk capacity is 281 litres  (with the soft-top open or closed), an increase of more than 50 percent compared to the previous Z4. An optional trunk through-loading system extends the possibilities for handling longer items during everyday use and when going away on trips.

BMW Personal Co-Pilot: Innovative systems to help drivers

The highly advanced nature of the new BMW Z4 is further underlined by the class-leading variety of offered driver assistance systems. Forward Collision Warning and the Daytime Pedestrian Detection with City Braking function come as standard, as does the Lane Departure Warning system. The list of options includes the Driving Assistance Package featuring Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, the Speed Limit Info system, the Active Blind Spot Detection, plus Rear Collision Protection and Cross-Traffic Alert.

The range of functions also includes the Reversing Assistant, which offers the highly convenient option of automated reversing in situations where there is little margin for error or the driver does not have a clear view. To do this, the system stores the steering movements for the section of road the car has just driven forward. It then traces these last forward movements when reversing and keeps the car on exactly the same path for a distance of up to 50 metres. All the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brake pedals and keep an eye on the area around the car.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional: Seventh generation of the BMW iDrive

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the all-new 2019 BMW Z4 combines a new display and control concept and the ultimate in connectivity to create a superb all-round package. The latest-generation of the iDrive comprises a high-resolution digital 31.2 cm (12.3”) instrument cluster display behind the steering wheel and a 26 cm (10.25”) center display diagonally across. The system offers many hardware upgrades including new haptic controls on the iDrive controller, an advanced tablet-like touch interface, and stunning visualizations. This latest system perfectly blends the strengths of previous iDrive concepts with the modern ways in which people utilize their own electronic devices. The multi-modal approach of the iDrive touch controller, large touchscreen center display, and cloud based voice control, allow users to interact in the way of their choosing. 

The seventh incarnation of iDrive, which runs the latest BMW Operating System, has a cutting-edge, fully digital design and is geared even more closely to the driver’s needs by allowing him or her to customize the system to his or her own preference with customizable widgets of information. This new level of personalization is then stored in the BMW Cloud and can follow the customer to other BMW vehicles. Various information from categories such as driving, entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and the vehicle info itself, can be selected in nearly any combination in any of four layouts on the Center Display. Multiple pages can be created and easily accessed with a simple swipe across the screen with a finger.

To maximize the capabilities of the large 12.3” digital instrument cluster, the traditional circular gauges have been finessed into an all-new design pushing the speedometer and tachometer gauges to the outer edges of the display as geometric bands. This new design opens space in the middle for routing and navigation, if desired. Information from the center display can also be shown within the tachometer. Additionally, the chosen driving mode will determine the visual display style. 

Other elements of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional are the Navigation Professional system, a hard-drive-based multimedia system with 20 GB of memory and two USB ports, plus Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay interfaces. The driver can be automatically identified and personal settings activated either using the traditional vehicle key or by downloading the driver’s personal settings the BMW Cloud.

Drivers can enjoy the full benefits of the car’s intelligent connectivity capabilities through vehicle apps such as news, weather, office and online search. Other capabilities include Intelligent Emergency Call – which automatically summons swift assistance in an emergency – and regular updates for the navigation system’s maps.

The Connected Package Professional includes Concierge Services and Advanced Real Time Traffic Information and is standard on the all-new Z4 for a duration of 4 years. This connectivity suite will allow for easy integration and adaptation of new technology over time. Customers can continue to download various new digital services individually as they become available or renew existing services via the ConnectedDrive Store.

BMW Connected: digital services for individual mobility

BMW Connected is the companion app for BMW drivers. Intelligent connectivity helps users to reach their destination easily and with minimal stress – and not only when in their car; BMW Connected is an all-embracing concept designed to seamlessly connect the driver and their smartphone with their vehicle.

At the heart of it all is the Open Mobility Cloud, which allows the app to connect the car with the customer’s digital devices. These could include the iPhone and Apple Watch, smartphones and smartwatches running the Android operating system, Alexa-compatible smart devices and Google Home. For instance, the BMW Connected app can import appointments and addresses from the customer’s calendar entries straight into the navigation system to begin route guidance. The system calculates the optimum departure time based on real-time traffic information and notifies the driver with a message on their smartphone when it is time to leave. As the vehicle is linked up via the Open Mobility Cloud, it is able to access the calculated route directly when the navigation system starts up.

Always up to date thanks to Remote Software Upgrade.

The Z4 is Remote Software Upgrade capable. This feature keeps the vehicle up to date with the latest software. All updates can be loaded over the air, similar to smartphones. The upgrades can be loaded onto a smartphone via the BMW Connected app when connected to a Wi-Fi network or imported directly via the BMW’s built-in SIM card

Vertically stacked headlights, the BMW kidney grille sporting a mesh design, the long clamshell hood stretching over the front wheels, large air breathes on the front wheel arches and the distinctive spoiler integrated into the rear lid all contribute towards the characteristic look of the new BMW Z4. The design of the interior places the focus on the pure sports driving enjoyment of the

new BMW Z4. The driver-oriented cockpit styling is underscored by dynamic forward-oriented lines. Likewise, the clearly structured arrangement of all control elements enhances the focus on the driving experience inside the new BMW Z4. 

For a perfect start into a new roadster era, the new BMW Z4 M40i First Edition offers specific design and equipment features that add exclusive accents to the car’s sporty flair. The expressive body paintwork in Frozen Orange Metallic is combined with an electrically operated textile soft top in anthracite with silver effect, the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, black exterior mirror caps and 19-inch light alloy wheels boasting a two-tone, double spoke design. The interior of the First Edition model features Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching, electrically adjustable seats with memory function and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. Adaptive LED headlights, BMW Head-Up Display featured for the first time in a BMW roadster and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two high resolution digital displays, offering the latest networking technology underpin the advanced status of the tradition-steeped two-seater, open-top sports car interpretation that is being presented by BMW in the all-new Z4 Roadster.

Power for the new Z4 M40i First Edition Roadster is provided by an uprated version of BMW’s iconic 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine producing enough horsepower and torque to propel the BMW Z4 M40i from 0 – 100 km/h in under 4.4 seconds (preliminary figure). A BMW M tuned sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential will ensure that this latest M Performance Model can carve through the twists of the Laureles Grade as effortlessly as cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur.

Full Z4 model details and specifications to be announced on September 18, 2018. The all-new 2019 BMW Z4 30i will arrive at Canadian BMW Retailers in Spring 2019 with the BMW Z4 M40i (including the First Edition) arriving in the Second Quarter.

Munich. Long bonnet, short overhangs, low centre of gravity, soft top: the sporty two-seater doing its laps at the BMW test centre in Miramas in the south of France is instantly recognisable as a purebred roadster. The new BMW Z4 is currently undergoing another particularly important stage of the process towards serial production maturity, in this case involving driving dynamics testing of a heavily disguised prototype. This will provide key insights into the performance properties of the new model, whose genuine roadster characteristics, pure driving pleasure and captivating sporty flair will soon go out on public roads.

Trials at the Autodrome de Miramas are focusing on fine-tuning of all drive and suspension systems – the basis for the sporty driving experience offered by the new BMW Z4. The most intense form of new dynamic roadster performance is embodied by the BMW Z4 M40i. A new, extremely powerful in-line 6-cylinder engine, a lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres, an M sports brake system and an electronically controlled lock in the rear axle differential create an overall package that sees the BMW M Performance model setting a whole new benchmark for driving pleasure in the roadster segment.

"The vehicle concept of the new BMW Z4 is geared consistently towards agility and driving dynamics," explains Jos van As, Head of Application Suspension. "The high level of body stiffness and the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and transverse acceleration."

Like the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the Miramas test centre offers perfect conditions for the new BMW Z4 to demonstrate its driving dynamics potential. Used by BMW to develop and test new models for more than 30 years, the centre comprises a long asphalt oval and a motorway ring road for high-speed tests as well as slalom, serpentine and circular tracks and a number of handling courses and circuits featuring highly diverse types of surface. These are currently being used for detailed analysis and optimisation of the roadster's acceleration, steering and brake response. For example, the final form of the adaptive M suspension as it interacts with the rear axle limited-slip differential is developed on a circuit that is also used for testing purposes by BMW Motorsport.

This intense testing process already indicates that the new version of the roadster concept will offer a tangible increase in sporty flair in the new BMW Z4. The new generation will particularly introduce effective enhancements in terms of agile handling, spontaneity and precision when changing direction and accelerating in dynamic style out of bends – without losing out in the comfort disciplines.

 Richmond Hill, ON. The new BMW Z4 Roadster represents a time-honored and yet contemporary interpretation of the traditional roadster concept. New exterior features, detailed interior refinements, the new Hyper Orange design package, as well as availability of full the range of BMW ConnectedDrive features all provide fresh impetus and lend the BMW Roadster even greater appeal and individuality. This updated version of the modern classic will arrive in BMW showrooms in spring of 2013, with a base MSRP of $54,300.

Design: classical proportions infused with modern character.

The success of modern-day BMW Roadsters is rooted in the rigorous dedication of a concept, a process which has left its mark on both the design and the driving properties of each car and is clearly recognizable in the new BMW Z4. The sweeping hood, long wheelbase, low beltline and low-slung rear end play a more vivid and uncompromising part in shaping its appearance than is evident with any of its segment rivals. The low seating position just ahead of the rear axle gives the driver and passenger a particularly intense experience of the longitudinal and lateral forces working on the rear wheels. This sense of being “part of the car” also allows the driver to feel more in touch with the road.

The hardtop roof also blends seamlessly into the car’s form. As it closes, it seals a smoothly flowing roofline, while large window surfaces optimize all-round visibility and the feeling of space inside the car. Once opened, the two roof elements are accommodated, one on top of the other, in a compact package inside the Roadster’s trunk. The A-pillars – painted an understated black – also underline the low-slung silhouette of the new BMW Z4, especially when the roof is open. The optional BMW Individual hardtop – available in the two contrast colors, Jet Black and Titanium Silver metallic – provides a feast for the eyes when the roof is closed. The hardtop can be opened at the touch of a button while the car is moving at up to 40 km/h in an automated process lasting 19 seconds.

The distinctive four round headlights team up with the broad BMW kidney grille to form a roadster-specific interpretation of the brand’s signature face. The standard Xenon headlights of the new BMW Z4 have a slim design and extend well into the front wheel arches. They feature LED light rings which emit daytime driving light in the brand’s hallmark style. Added to which, the light sources now have a strikingly three-dimensional design which accentuates the intricate technology of the headlights. Cutting across the tops of the headlights are LED accent lights, whose metal insert bears BMW lettering. The integrated turn signal indicators have chrome-coloured surrounds, which lend further emphasis to the sophisticated character of the light units. Plus, a newly designed, tapered surround for the side indicators adds a dynamic sweep to the gills on the front side sections of the car.

Striking touches: new paint finishes, Hyper Orange Design package, a new alloy wheel and the M Sport package.

A total of 11 external paint finishes are available for the new BMW Z4, including the new Mineral Grey metallic, Glacier Silver metallic and Valencia Orange metallic, which can only be ordered together with the Hyper Orange Design option. This new aesthetic/design  package lends the Roadster a lively aura; the interior, for example, boasts an energy-charged contrast of black and orange. The bespoke Alcantara door panel trim, like the lower section of the instrument panel, comes in orange. The black leather seats have contrast stitching in Valencia Orange and an accent stripe running down the central section of the backrests and seat cushions. This stripe is likewise orange and is flanked by two thin white lines. The door panel trim and lower section of the instrument panel can also be specified in black as an option. Another exclusive element of the Hyper Orange Design package is the metal weave trim strip, which can be combined with further decorative elements in high-gloss black for the door openers and the gearshift or selector lever. This new equipment package replaces the previously available Citrus Yellow Package and is also available in combination with other exterior paint colors as an option.

New interior additions to standard specification include high-gloss black surrounds for the central air vents and the iDrive control system’s folding Control Display, which comes as part of the optional navigation system. Elsewhere, exquisite Fineline Anthracite wood has been added to the selection of interior trim strips available as an option for the new BMW Z4. The BMW Z4 sDrive 28i, BMW Z4 sDrive 35i and BMW Z4 sDrive 35is are offered with Kansas leather trim. The range of optional light-alloy wheels includes a newly designed V-Spoke 18-inch wheels combined with staggered front and rear tire sizes.

The engaging character of the Roadster as a driver’s tool is given particular emphasis by the optional M Sport package, which includes M Adaptive suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M aerodynamics package with large air intakes in the front wing and a rear bumper inlay painted Anthracite metallic. Bringing an extra dose of sporting flair into the interior, meanwhile, are features such as sports seats, an M leather steering wheel, M driver’s footrest, M door sill finishers and an anthracite-coloured roof liner. The Aluminum Carbon trim strip, leather M gear lever knob and grey dials for the instrument cluster lend the finishing touches to the interior ambience. The new BMW Z4 sDrive35is comes with a model-specific version of the M Sport package.

Engines: BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in three output levels
The BMW Z4 will continue to be available in three variants, the Z4 sDrive 28i, the Z4 sDrive 35i and the Z4 sDrive 35is. Their most significant shared feature is BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which ensures an exceptionally effective balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption throughout the range.

The BMW sDrive28i features BMW’s award-winning TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter four cylinder engine, which produces 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It powers the BMW Roadster from 0 –100 km/h in 5.8 seconds with the 6-speed manual (5.9 with the 8-speed automatic) and returns highway fuel economy figures of 5.8 L/100km with the manual transmission (5.9 L/100km for the 8-speed automatic). The BMW Z4 sDrive35i features BMW’s N54 TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-6, producing 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It sprints from 0 –100 km/h  in 5.3 seconds with the 7-speed DCT transmission (5.4 with the 6-speed manual) achieving  highway fuel economy figures of 5.4 L/100 km/h with the manual transmission and 8.4 L/100 km/h 7-speed DCT.  The top-range Z4 sDrive35is features a higher-output version of BMW’s venerable N54 producing 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque and the 7-speed DCT. The top model goes from 0 – 100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds without a achieving the same fuel economy rating as the 35i..

Extensive comfort-enhancing equipment.

The new BMW Z4 delivers the driving pleasure customers have come to expect from the brand, fulfilling the desire for both sporting ability and comfort. Drivers can use the standard Driving Experience Control switch to select a configuration to suit the situation at hand and satisfy personal preferences. COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes can all be called up using the rocker switch on the center console. As well as adjusting the responses of the engine and DSC stability system, the different modes also alter the shift characteristics of the automatic gearbox, the responses of the Servotronic function and the mapping of the electronically controlled dampers, if these items are specified. These modes allow the driver to choose from a selection of distinctive and clearly differentiated set-ups for the car.

Other items of equipment fitted as standard are Xenon headlights, automatic climate control, a heated glass rear window and runflat tires with a tire pressure monitor. The standard Z4 sound system includes CD player, AUX-IN socket and 6 loudspeakers. Customers can also choose the optional Premium Sound System with higher output and 14 loudspeakers. The optional navigation system enables high-resolution map graphics – complete with 3D view – on the 8.8-inch iDrive monitor. The navigation data for the system is stored on an in-car hard disk, which also provides 12 GB of capacity for personal music collections.

The range of driver assistance systems and mobility services from BMW ConnectedDrive has also expanded once again. The new BMW Z4 can be equipped with features such as High Beam Assistant and Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear of the car. If the navigation system is specified, the ConnectedDrive Services option allows use of internet-based information and entertainment services inside the car. This system must be fitted to enable access to the BMW Online portal and apps using the Control Display and iDrive Controller. The Real Time Traffic Information function is also on hand, supplying the driver with congestion warnings and diversion recommendations in real time. Apple iPhone owners can use BMW apps, for example, to receive web radio stations, display Facebook and Twitter posts on the monitor and ask for them to be read out. The range of BMW ConnectedDrive features available for the new BMW Z4 also includes BMW TeleServices, BMW Remote Services, Concierge Services and enhanced Automatic Collision Notification with automatic vehicle location and accident severity detection.

The new 2014 BMW Z4  Roadster will arrive in BMW showrooms in spring of 2013.

Whitby , ON – As a dramatic follow-up to the launch of the highly-acclaimed new BMW Z4 Roadsters in spring of 2009, a new BMW Z4 sDrive35is model will make its world debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, introducing one of BMW’s fastest and best-handling Roadsters ever.

 The latest Z4 model is powered by a high-output version of the BMW Twin Power Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine featuring increased air intake flow and boost pressure, generating more power while maintaining the same standard of efficiency. These engine enhancements combine with twin low-mass turbochargers and High Precision direct injection for an increase in output to 335 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and peak torque of 332 lb-ft delivered from 1,500 –4,500 rpm.The BMW Z4 sDrive35is will sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds (preliminary figure).

 The revised engine management system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is includes an electronically-controlled overboost function that briefly increases torque under full load by another 37 lb-ft, for a temporary torque peak of 369 lb-ft, giving the Z4 sDrive35is a significant increase in acceleration at highway passing speeds.

 The exhaust system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is has also been tuned specifically for this model. With special baffles and a unique set of mufflers, the acoustic engineering results in a very unique sound pattern across the speed range, characterized by a deep rumble with a focus on the low frequency sound range.

 The BMW Z4 sDrive35is offers outstanding power and performance without an increase in fuel consumption or emissions. Its figures are expected to match those of the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Double-Clutch Transmission on the EPA test cycle. Additional BMW EfficientDynamics technologies employed on the Z4 sDrive 35is include Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering, and on-demand operation of engine accessory units.

 Standard 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission and Electric Power Steering

The standard 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission (DCT) in the BMW Z4 sDrive35is combines the best in driving dynamics and efficiency. Configured for the higher levels of power and performance, the DCT provides a seamless delivery of power to the rear wheels, and offers a choice of automatic or manual gear selection via the electronic console mounted gearshift or steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. The DCT also features a Launch Control function for maximum performance when accelerating from a standstill.

Standard Electric Power Steering (EPS) on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is features enhanced-performance programming, providing more intense and precise steering feedback.

 Standard M Sport Package

Standard equipment on the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is includes an M Sport package featuring M Aerodynamics and adaptive M Suspension. The adaptive M Suspension combines a ride-height reduction of 10 millimeters (almost 0.4”) with electronically controlled shock absorbers (Dynamic Damping Control) to improve the vehicle’s agility without compromising ride comfort.

Special 18-inch light-alloy wheels in five-spoke design further characterize the sporting nature of the Z4 sDrive35is, with19-inch light-alloy wheels available as an option. In addition to its unique wheels, the new model is further distinguished by a striking front bumper with a matte aluminum trim bar in each outer air intake, a rear bumper with accentuated surrounds on the tailpipes, and a rear diffuser finished at top in body color and black textured surface underneath.

M Sport interior enhancements and new Kansas Walnut leather.

Inside the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, the driving experience is enhanced by features such as a new thick-rimmed M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, an M driver’s footrest, and sport seats. Grey-faced instrument dials feature the “sDrive35is” model designation. Further features inside the Z4 sDrive35is are the Anthracite-colored BMW Individual roof lining, M door sill strips, floor mats with colored piping and the “sDrive35is” model designation, as well as M interior trim in Aluminum Carbon. The new Aluminum Carbon trim features the recognizable “weave” of natural carbon fiber interpreted on a matte aluminum base.

An additional upholstery color will also mark the launch of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is: All versions of the Z4 Roadster will be available with Kansas Walnut leather as an option.  The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is available with a choice of six paintwork colors. In addition to Alpine White and the metallic colors Titanium Silver, Black Sapphire, Space Grey, and Deep Sea Blue, the Z4 Roadster will be available for the first time in Melbourne Red metallic. Regardless of the color chosen, the exterior mirror caps on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is are always Oxide Silver.

Munich. The new BMW Z4 draws attention to itself not just on the road but also among internationally renowned design experts. Just a few weeks after its market launch, the Roadster has now received the 2009 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA). The award is presented annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), based in Dulles, Virginia. The BMW Z4 received the bronze award, thus continuing the success story of BMW Group vehicles in this competition. Since 2000, nine vehicles from the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands have been recognized for their outstanding design.

The new BMW Z4 impressed the jury with a design which unmistakably and authentically reflects the driving pleasure characteristic of the roadster. With its long bonnet, long wheelbase, large wheels and short overhangs, the two-seater possesses classic roadster proportions which are interpreted in a modern way with a styling which is characteristic of the brand. Its sophisticated surface design gives the BMW Z4 an elegance which can be seen from every perspective. Its appearance is that of a vehicle sculpture shaped as a single entity. An equally characteristic feature is the low seating position close to the rear axle. The resulting driving experience and the visual impression of the roadster thus provide a perfectly integrated and fascinating whole.

For the first time, a BMW Roadster is fitted with a retractable hard top. The dual-section roof in aluminum lightweight construction also contributes to the harmonious design of the BMW Z4. When closed, the hard top provides a flowing, coupe-like roof line which highlights the car’s elegant look. When open, it is discreetly and harmoniously integrated into the flat rear.

The success of the BMW Z4 at the 2009 International Design Excellent Awards builds on the outstanding showing of the BMW Group in this competition in past years. Three vehicles of the BMW Group have received a gold award: the motorcycle models BMW K 1200 LT in 2000 and BMW R 1200 GS (2004) and the MINI Cooper S (2003). Silver has gone to the BMW X5 (2000) and the MINI Convertible (2005), bronze to the motorcycle model BMW F 650 CS (2003). What is more, the BMW 3 Series Convertible and the motorcycle model BMW F 8090 GS achieved finalist status in last year’s competition.

The international jury of the International Design Excellence Awards presented awards in 17 categories this year. In addition to products from the fields of transport, office equipment, communication, household and consumer electronics, there was also assessment of design research projects and innovations in the field of environmental technology. The official award ceremony will be held on September 26th 2009 after the annual international design conference of the IDSA in Miami.

Munich./Los Angeles. Imagine a canvas nearly as large as a football field. On
it bold, swirling shapes in primary colors like red, yellow and blue. As the
eye uncovers the rhythm of the lines, curves, circles and color splotches,
something else is revealed: these forms must have been created by tire treads!
A work of art like no other, created by an artist like no other - the new BMW
Z4 Roadster.

Over the years BMW has offered great contemporary artists the chance to express
themselves on the surfaces of a variety of the marque's sports cars. However,
the art performance created by the young South-African Robin Rhode daringly
moves beyond the concept behind the BMW Art Car Collection. Here the car is no
longer just a stunning model, but itself executing artist. "This work is an
expression of painting in action - my hope is to communicate the power and
thrill inherent in the creation of art", says Rhode. "For me, the use of an
untraditional paintbrush like a high performance car is a great way to
investigate the relationship between emotion, technology and industrial
creativity." The development of the picture, this process of formation itself
is as important as the completed oeuvre. For this reason the Z4 performance is
suggestively titled "An Expression of Joy".

The powerful and vibrant images created by the treads on the huge canvas appear
dynamic and spontaneous, as if created out of the whim of the moment. Yet each
movement had been painstakingly planned to the last detail and was the result
of an immense technical effort. Unlike the legendary "action paintings" created
by Jackson Pollock nothing was left to chance. As an artist working at the
cutting edge of performing and fine arts, Robin Rhode is an experienced planner
and capable of organizing and directing a large technical staff, but with "An
Expression of Joy" even he broke new ground. This in every respect
extraordinary work of art that was to emerge in the huge Downey Studios of Los
Angeles offered another equally challenging aspect. During the creation of the
painting, prize-winning young director Jake Scott intended to film the complete
performance for the TV campaign accompanying the new Z4 Roadster's launch in
2009.

But how was the palette of colors actually applied to the tires? How was the
BMW Z4 harnessed to Robin Rhode's specific concept? And how was Jake Scott able
to transform this dynamic act of creation into an equally fascinating film?
These questions reflect how many demanding aspects needed to be dealt with in
order to create a performance blending high tech and artistic vision.
Obviously, in the beginning was an idea. The idea was to present the innovative
next generation of the BMW Z4 in a totally unusual location. "One source of
inspiration was the seminal work of Gerhard Richter's series of paintings 'Red,
Yellow, Blue' made in 1973 for the company headquarters in Munich, Germany",
Rhode explains. Another reference point were the experimental optic animations
from the 1920's and German Expressionist Film. "The tracks left by the tires
combine the two-dimensional plane of the picture with the three-dimensional
space of the actual driving experience."

The artist began by sketches, using black finger paints on paper to draw an
outline of the general shapes and rhythms. Then Robin Rhode created the visual
equivalent of a storyboard with the exact details of each driving sequence and
the specific color used. Of course, the driver received a copy of the
storyboard that he was able to prop up in the cockpit. Since it was nearly
impossible to follow the development of the emerging tracks, given the sheer
size of the pictoral dimensions, Rhode also furnished a miniature of "An
Expression of Joy" complete with two models of the car in order to simulate
driving maneuvers in advance of the actual "paint drive".

The art performance was a challenge for the driver as well as driving the MINI
for the movie "Italian Job". Accustomed to taking high performance cars to
their limit on test tracks, here he needed to follow the exacting choreography
established by Rhode. Which meant executing the same moves back and forth
several times if the artist wasn't satisfied by the specific color intensity,
and yet keeping the tracks of the treads perfectly aligned each time. Each of
the colors was individually applied through remote-controlled nozzles mounted
near the axles of the roadster. To avoid an accidental mix of the colors due to
residue in the treads, new sets of tires were constantly being rolled in and
carefully exchanged, a feat of logistics in itself. From time to time a
sock-clad Robin Rhode literally stepped into the picture to pour on more color,
where necessary adding generous drips. An alluring aspect accidentally created
by this motorized paint brush were the sprays and splotches of color
highlighting the wheel casings of the Z4, resulting in visual traces and echoes
of the dynamics of the composition. The monumental canvas itself was composed
of individual segments that had been attached together to create a surface
measuring 100' by 200' and thus allowing the driving and painting process to be
sequenced in quadrants. This solution also benefits all future storing and
moving of the artwork. Segments of the spectacular giant picture will be on the
road in 2009, first to be shown at the Detroit Motor Show.

Robin Rhode and his team executed the project in 12 hours. That was also the
time frame essentially allotted to director Jake Scott and his crew in which to
shoot the Z4's chromatic driving movements. The challenge was that each segment
of his film for the BMW campaign needed to be "just right" the first time
around. The usual number of takes just would not possible for this kind of
recording. Scott, who is just wrapping up his first feature-length film, has
won numerous prizes for music videos and commercials. The cinematographer was
able to draw on his experience documenting rock concerts in order to deal with
the singular character of this particular live performance. The dynamic
undertaking of a car painting was captured with 45 simultaneous camera angles.
So, while Robin Rhode was watching the color choreography unfurl, Jake Scott
kept a critical eye on all the many screens monitoring the camera movements.
"It is always a gift for a filmmaker to watch an artist of any discipline
work", Scott recounts. "It is creation at its core and I have been privileged
to observe musicians, actors and now a significant, young artist. I am excited
to showcase the rarely seen link between art and technology in action."

The huge space of the studio and the giant dimensions of the lowered tub in
which the canvas had been spread out, offered exciting vantage points for the
placement of the cameras. At the same time it also meant coordinating two
highly complex and diverse projects - the actual art performance and the
shooting of a TV commercial - down to the last second. But despite this double
challenge demanding concentration and precision timing the atmosphere
surrounding all the teams involved was relaxed.

Robin Rhode

The artist, who was born in 1976 in Cape Town and now lives in Berlin, has made
a name for himself in the past few years on account of his distinctive artistic
work. His oeuvre centers on performances that have evolved from his experiences
as a highschool student growing in the Johannesburg suburbs, supplemented
culture (sports, music, and fashion) that he likes to mingle with the process
of "making art". In 2001, Rhode was nominated for South Africa's FNB Vita Art
Prize. He has been included in several group exhibitions, including
Dislocation. Image. Identity. South Africa, Centro Cultural de Maria, O'Porto,
Portugal (2002); Shelf Life, Gasworks Gallery, London, England (2001); and
Juncture, The Granary, Cape Town, and Studio Voltaire, London (2001). His solo
exhibitions include Fresh: Robin Rhode at South Africa National Gallery, Cape
Town (2000).

Jake Scott

The Englishman Jake Scott, born 1965, has been directing commercials and music
videos for over 15 years, during which time he has accumulated stellar
recognition in his field such as numerous MTV awards, a Grammy Nomination, an
Emmy and the Grand Prix at Cannes. His clients include renowned brands like
Adidas, American Express, AOL, Coca Cola and JP Morgan. The list of artists he
has worked with also reads like a Who's Who of the music industry: REM, U2,
Smashing Pumpkins and George Michaels. Jake Scott who ist the son of famous
director Sir Ridley Scott ("Alien", "Blade Runner", "Gladiator") has just
completed work on his second feature-length film, "Welcome to the Riley's" with
"Sopranos" star James Gandolfini.

Both BMW Z4 Roadsters are equipped with a standard 6-speed manual
transmission. A Seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) is available as
an option on the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, combining the extra comfort of a BMW
automatic transmission with maximum performance. A Six-speed sport automatic
with optimized gearshift dynamics, direct connection to the engine and
minimized converter slip is available as an option on the BMW Z4 sDrive30i.

exceptional sound quality of BMW audio systems has been acknowledged by THX
Ltd., the world's leading developer of technologies and certification programs
for the entertainment industry. By achieving THX certification on the BMW Z4's
HiFi System Professional, BMW drivers and passengers are provided a car audio
experience that rivals high-end home entertainment systems. This makes BMW the
first European car manufacturer to offer a THX Certified Car Audio System. The
THX Certified Car Audio System is available in the BMW Z4 Roadster and M
Roadster, the BMW Z4 Coupé and M Coupé.

THX Certification for the top HiFi system in the BMW Z4.

music programme - with a standard of intensity and brilliance traditionally
offered by the most sophisticated home entertainment systems.

BMW develops sound systems for the top connoisseur of audio quality. BMW's
sound systems are configured and coordinated individually for each model within
the BMW range. This ensures that each system meets all the demands made of each
vehicle's varying size and body contours. "One of the particular challenges is
to develop optimum sound systems for a convertible required to offer the same
listening experience with the roof both open and closed" says Edgar Kirk, Head
of Development of Audio Systems of the BMW Group. BMW's engineers offer a HiFi
System Professional, developed specifically for the BMW M Roadster and BMW Z4
Roadster to become BMW's first THX Certified Audio System. The HiFi System
Professional will be tailored for the BMW Z4 Coupé.

THX engineers worked closely with BMW to analyze in detail the Z4's cabin
acoustics, speakers and other audio components in order to check whether they
performed to THX specifications. THX rigorously tested the audio system under a
variety of road and driving conditions. THX analyzed the system for dynamic
range, frequency response, power output and distortion. The result is a THX
Certified System that delivers a smooth, clean sound.

BMW Carver technology, a digital ten-channel audio amplifier, and a digital
sound processor all interact to ensure a supreme THX Certified sound experience.

The Z4 HiFi System Professional offers the option to choose the experience of
enjoying music either in an open-air stage or a concert hall setting. In order
to offer the aficionado of roadster and coupé motoring not only a unique
driving experience, but also an incomparable experience of sound, BMW has
introduced Carver technology into this THX Certified system. "Thanks to Carver
technology, a high sound pressure can be produced with a small speaker
diameter" says Edgar Kirk. The limited package space available for large bass
speakers in a two-seater can be used in the best possible way. Requiring a
volume of only 10 litres per loudspeaker, the system is able to generate
enormous sound pressure (output level) of more than 120 db. A digital
10-channel audio amplifier and sound processor, in turn, gives the sub-woofers
an output of 100 Watts. Two woofers each developing 40 Watts are positioned at
the front of the car, six midrange loudspeakers and tweeters are fitted in the
doors and behind the seats, each driven by a 25 Watts terminal. The HiFi System
Professional develops a total power output of 430 Watts.

THX certification combined with BMW's Carver technology, top-end amplifiers and
the perfect configuration of sound sources within the car ensures a premium
sound experience for both driver and passengers. "We are very happy that our
work is honoured in this way," declares Edgar Kirk. The BMW HiFi System
Professional option retails in Germany in the BMW Z4 Roadster and Coupé at a
price of Euro 1,000.- incl. VAT.

The THX philosophy: Deliver entertainment experiences that are true to the
artist's vision.

More than any other sports car in the world, this unique car embodies the
typical roadster: The BMW Z4 Roadster thrills the car world through its
fascinating, sporting dynamism created by a perfect synthesis of a
high-performance power unit, the outstanding chassis and suspension, and
innovative features all round. And not least it is the wonderful design of the
BMW Z4 Roadster which makes this car so unique, desirable and a genuine
must-have. And now, four years after its world debut, the BMW Z4 Roadster is
making a new, brilliant appearance with new engines.

Marking another highlight on the same occasion, the only purist
high-performance roadster in the world is making its world debut at the Detroit
Auto Show in Detroit in January 2006: The upcoming BMW M Roadster is the
high-performance ultra-sports version of the Z4 Roadster so many customers have
been waiting for.

Extending BMW's roadster family right at the top, this unique car takes up and
continues the brand's tradition in a segment originally created by BMW M in the
first place: Back in 1997, the BMW (Z3) M Roadster marked the world's first
high-performance production roadster, with more than 15,000 units being sold to
customers by the year 2002, making it the best seller in its class and the
absolute leader in dynamic performance, agility, and sportiness.

The (Z4) M Roadster: Awe-Inspiring Performance in Every Respect.
Boasting BMW M's straight-six power unit, the M Roadster features a
high-performance engine unparalleled in the roadster market: In 2005 this
unique engine received the "Engine of the Year Award" acknowledged and highly
respected the world over for the fifth time in a row, setting up a record never
seen before. Through its high-speed concept and virtually optimum transmission
ratios, this outstanding power unit generates enormous thrust and performance
in all speed ranges. Its specifications alone are very impressive: six
cylinders, 3,246 cc, 252 kW/343 hp at 7,900 rpm, 365 Newton-metres/269 lb-ft at
4,900 rpm, maximum engine speed 8,000 rpm.

Two other figures perhaps say even more about the engine's outstanding
performance: Output per litre is 106 hp and the power-to-weight ratio is
4.1 kilos/hp. On the road this means acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds,
with the same short time of 5.0 seconds being required for intermediate
acceleration in fourth gear from 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph). Top speed is limited
electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

The Joy of Shifting Gears Six Times Over.
The high-speed engine concept is simply ideal for a sports car in combination
with a short overall transmission ratio, since this allows the conversion of
engine power into optimum thrust on the rear wheels. And combining the M final
drive with a six-speed manual gearbox, the engineers at BMW M are able to
fulfil this requirement to the highest standard. Short and crisp shift travel,
supreme running smoothness, and precise guidance of the shift lever with
sensitive feedback ensuring that the gear is properly in mesh, are typical
fortes of this transmission.

Variable M Differential Lock for Supreme Power in Bends.
The M Roadster comes with the speed-sensitive variable M differential lock
already well-known and greatly admired on the M3. This special feature gives
the car both superior driving stability and optimum traction especially when
accelerating out of a bend. Allowing a very sporting style of motoring,
especially on roads with a higher frictional coefficient, the M differential
lock enables the experienced driver to enhance the positive features of
rear-wheel drive to an even higher standard. Under challenging conditions such
as a different frictional coefficient on each side of the car typical of winter
weather and road surfaces, the system gives the M Roadster supreme traction and
stability.

New Six-Cylinder Power Units for the Z4 Roadster.
While the six- and four-cylinder power units featured in the BMW Z4 Roadster
naturally cannot match the output and performance of the M engine, they
are everything but under-powered. Indeed, the new 3.0-litre straight-six in the
BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si is currently the most innovative engine in its class,
setting the standard in motoring refinement and dynamic performance. Further
strengths are the engine's high output per litre, a very good power-to-weight
ratio, and the lowest specific fuel consumption. Maximum output is 195 kW/265
hp at 6,600 rpm, maximum engine speed is 7,000 rpm, and the engine develops its
peak torque of 315 Newton-metres or 232 lb-ft at 2,750 rpm. Complying, last
but not least, with both the EU4 and ULEV II standards, this outstanding power
unit is also a role model from the perspective of the environment.

The most striking feature from the customer's perspective in comparison with
the former engine is the sporting responsiveness of the new power unit in
conjunction with thrilling engine sound whenever the driver calls up its power,
as well as supreme refinement and motoring culture when cruising or just
breezing along.

Superior power and low weight naturally also mean superior performance
and efficiency: The Z4 Roadster 3.0si accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h
in 5.7 seconds, acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth
gear comes in 5.5 seconds.

Like the M Roadster, the Z4 Roadster 3.0si is limited electronically to a top
speed of 250 or 155 mph. Fuel consumption in the combined EU cycle, finally, is
just 8.6 litres Premium plus/100 km, equal to 32.8 mpg Imp.

Everything but Mediocre: the two 2.5-Litre Six-Cylinders.
Two 2.5-litre power units round off the range of six-cylinders.
The BMW Z4 Roadster 2.5si, developing maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp, is among
the top performers in its segment. Peak torque of 250 Newton-metres or 184
lb-ft is maintained consistently between 2,900 and 4,250 rpm, accelerating the
Z4 Roadster 2.5si from 0-100 km/h in a mere 6.5 seconds. Equally superior
torque and muscle is borne out by the car's acceleration from 80-120 km/h in
fourth gear likewise in 6.5 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/h or 149 mph, standard
fuel consumption is 8.4 litres Premium plus/100 km, equal to 33.6 mpg Imp. And
again it goes without saying that the Z4 Roadster 2.5si complies in full with
both the EU4 and ULEV II emission standards.

In another version also boasting a 2.5-litre power unit, the Z4 Roadster 2.5i
comes with maximum output of 130 kW/177 hp and peak torque of 230 Newton-metres
or 169 lb-ft, replacing the former BMW Z4 Roadster 2.2i. The big benefit for
the customer offered by the larger engine is the extra power and torque, a
significant advantage above all when accelerating from low speeds.

The performance data: 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, acceleration from 80-120 km/h
(50-75 mph) in 4th gear in 7.0 seconds. Top speed is 229 km/h or 142 mph, fuel
consumption 8.2 litres premium plus on 100 kilometres (equal to 34.5 mpg Imp),
and naturally this model also complies in full with the EU4 and ULEV II
emission standards.

All of these straight-six power units offer the customer best-in-class
performance and excellent running smoothness in typical BMW style. They come
with a composite aluminium/magnesium crankcase, a bedplate structure, and the
cylinder head made of magnesium, fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control,
infinite double-VANOS camshaft adjustment, and four-valve technology.

BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i - Entering the World of Real Roadster Motoring.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder power unit featured in the BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i
rounds off the range of engines in this unique family of roadster. Developing
110 kW/150 hp at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 200 Newton-metres or 147 lb-ft
at 3,600 rpm, this straight-four also guarantees superior dynamics and
undiluted roadster pleasure: Acceleration to 100 km/h takes just 8.2 seconds,
exactly the same time as the fast sprint from 80-100 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth
gear. Top speed, in turn, is an equally superior 220 km/h or 136 mph.

Consuming just 7.5 litres premium plus/100 kilometres (equal to 37.7 mpg Imp),
the four-cylinder is very fuel-efficient and, complying with the EU4 and ULEV
II emission standards, offers superior environmental friendliness. The engine
is also equipped with BMW's innovative VALVETRONIC and dual-VANOS management
systems. A further feature is the DISA intake manifold, a technology able to
change the length of the oscillating pipes as a function of engine load.
Operating in conjunction with the engine management system, this technology
ensures a level of spontaneity when accelerating previously only to be found in
sports engines with individual throttle butterflies.

Six Gears on All Models.
All new BMW Z4 Roadsters come with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The typical strengths of this transmission are the short and crisp gearshift
travel, superior running smoothness and precise guidance of the gearshift lever
in the middle, with shift forces remaining smooth and consistent at all times.
With the six gears coming close together with only small increments in between,
and with the large gap between the lowest and highest gear, the driver is
always able to choose the ideal gear ratio quickly and smoothly even when
driving fast and dynamically.

Another BMW First: the New Sport Automatic.
Automatic transmission in the Z4 Roadster 3.0si and 2.5si comes as a highlight
with shift paddles on the steering wheel. In conjunction with the new set-up of
the transmission, this outstanding gearshift gives even the afici¬onade of
automatic transmission a dynamic experience of sporting perform¬ance in the Z4
Roadster without having to forego the superior comfort of an automatic
gearshift.

Supreme Body Stiffness for Four Stars in the EuroNCAP Crash Test.
Designed and built from the start as an open-air model, the body of the BMW Z4
Roadster is also simply ideal in terms of weight and stiffness: Offering 14,
500 Nm/degree of static torsional stiffness, this is the stiffest bodyshell in
the segment.

Apart from thrilling performance and agility in bends, this also means that
the BMW Z4 Roadster achieves excellent results in the demanding EuroNCAP crash
test: Achieving four out of five possible stars, the car's result is truly
remarkable for an open-air two-seater. Indeed, in the 2004 EuroNCAP test, the
Z4 Roadster scored 15.64 points for head-on collisions and 16 points for
side-on collisions out of a possible maximum result of 16 points in each case,

EuroNCAP Best-in-Class Award. This means that in practice the Z4 Roadster
protects its occupants better than all the cars in this segment tested so far.
In fact the forces and strain acting on the car's occupants are lower than in
most cars with a fixed roof.

Chassis and Suspension: a Star in Bends.
The BMW Z4 Roadster offers its driver exactly the right chassis and suspension
virtually tailor-made for sports motoring, guaranteeing sheer driving pleasure
all the way to the absolute limit. And should the driver ever be so

The chassis and suspension are designed in terms of their spring and damper
action, as well as kinematics and elastokinematics, for superior dynamism,
agility and handling. This makes the BMW Z4 Roadster in all its variants most
probably the most agile and dynamic roadster in the world. For even more
sporting behaviour, the genuine enthusiast moreover has the choice of a sports

The Z4 M Roadster: Ultimate Driving Pleasure of the Highest Standard.

entire system therefore offers even greater driving pleasure, without in any

New DSC Setting the Standard in Suspension Control.
Reflecting BMW's consistent philosophy, the chassis and suspension control
systems on the Z4 Roadster and the M Roadster do not serve to upgrade the
suspension as such - simply because the suspension already offers a very high
standard - but rather to help the driver master critical situations when
driving to the limit. And indeed, the safety reserves offered by BMW's
roadsters are already very substantial to begin with. But this does not stop
BMW from offering new, supplementary functions such as Hill Start Assistance,
Dry Braking, etc.

Using the integrated Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) function on the
BMW Z4 Roadster, the driver is able at the touch of a button to improve
traction and, accordingly, the drive power actually conveyed to the road on
slippery surfaces such as snow. He is also able to adjust the driving behaviour
of the BMW Z4 to higher dynamic requirements, thus capitalising on the sporting
qualities of the car. One example is that DTC allows greater slip on the rear
wheels whenever appropriate.

Numerous Interesting Ancillary Functions.
BMW's new DSC Dynamic Stability Control offers a number of additional
functions: Start-Off Assistance on uphill gradients, for example, automatically
operates the brakes for a short period, preventing the car from rolling back on
an uphill gradient and thus no longer requiring the driver to pull the
handbrake when setting off.

Safety is further enhanced by automatic Fading Compensation as well as the
Brake Standby function automatically pre-loading the brake linings. Automatic
Dry Braking of the brake discs on wet roads, in turn, serve to improve brake
response when needed.

The M Roadster incorporates BMW's variable M differential lock in combination
with a special configuration of the DSC dynamic control system.

Electric Power Steering Optimising the Steering System.
The Z4 Roadster and the M Roadster also differ in terms of their steering
system: The Z4 Roadster features BMW's electromechanical EPS Electric Power
Steering highlighting the dynamic and agile set-up of the BMW Roadster. This
unique system offers a very high standard of flexibility in its steering
characteristics, an optimum compromise of the steering damping effect and
feedback from the steering, as well as low control forces at low speeds and
when manoeuvring. A further important point is the very good centering effect,
with the steering wheel returning smoothly and reliably to its zero position.
Servotronic, finally, comes as standard.

Cutting-Edge Precision when Steering.
The steering system in the M Roadster, by contrast, is supported by hydraulic
power assistance. This ensures unparalleled steering manoeuvres in terms of
overall precision and optimum feedback of all driving conditions. The overall
steering transmission ratio is 15.4 : 1, allowing even faster steering control
and operation and thus offering benefits in terms of supreme driving dynamics.

Lightweight Brakes with Outstanding Performance.
A new feature is the 17-inch brake system on the Z4 Roadster 3.0i. The
particular fortes in this case are extreme stopping power, very good resistance
to fading, and optimum long-term brake qualities.

Compound High-Performance Brakes Keeping M Power under Control.
With its even higher standard of performance, the M Roadster features BMW M's
floating compound high-performance brake system originally conceived for the
BMW M3 CSL as a system carried over directly from motorsport. This superior
brake system ensures stopping power of the highest standard, giving the M
Roadster a stopping distance of just 34 metres or 112 feet from a speed of 100
km/h.

New Highlights in Design.
In their design, both the updated BMW Z4 Roadster and the new M Roadster
consistently continue the characteristic design language of BMW's thoroughbred
roadster concept: The BMW Z4 Roadster boasts moderate updates including a
modified front section drawn down closer to the road. Other new features are
the foglamps and the reflectors so typical of the car.

Benefiting from new tail lights with integrated light conductors as well as
more horizontal lines, the modifications at the rear give the car an even
wider, lower, and more muscular appearance. Featuring even more sophisticated,
top-quality materials and additional colours, the interior is truly exquisite
in its looks without in any way foregoing its sporting, purist character.

M Roadster: High Performance at Very First Sight.
Clearly recognisable as a Z4 Roadster, the M Roadster visualises its superior
character of high performance even more convincingly. The functional and
technical qualities of the car are reflected directly and authentically by the
design of the M Roadster, numerous details both outside and inside
distinguishing it from the "basic" model.

The most conspicuous highlights are the front air dam with its X-shaped
combination of lines and openings, the large air intake scoops, as well as the
low-slung kidney grille and the two striking precision lines on the engine
compartment lid. A feature exclusive to the M Roadster is the double-spoke
design of the 18-inch aluminium rims. And last but certainly not least, the
rear end also comes in that typical M style, with four striking tailpipes and a
horizontal diffuser.

The Interior: Sporting and Functional All in One.
Inside, the new BMW M Roadster boasts a sporting, purist but at the same time
exclusive look throughout. Clear shapes and the very best materials give the
interior its particular touch, powerfully emphasising the thrill of sports
motoring.

The BMW M colours are also to be found on the speedometer and rev counter with
their face finished in black and boasting both white numbers and red indicator
needles accentuated by permanent white illumination.

Yet another unique feature is the engine speed band presented in the rev
counter like in the other BMW M cars: The yellow pre-warning field and the
red warning field limit the permissible range of engine speed as a function
of current engine oil temperature. With the temperature of the oil in the
engine increasing, the useful speed range increases accordingly, making it
easier for the driver to intuitively monitor the current temperature level.

The steering wheel, gearshift lever knob and door entry strips are further
features specific to BMW M, just like the air conditioning and fresh air
adjusters, the door openers and door closing handles galvanically upgraded
in pearl gloss chrome.

Three exterior colours exclusive to BMW M and five special paintwork colours
for the BMW Z4 Roadster enable the customer to give his - or her - M Roadster a
very special personal touch. Within the interior, no less than four different
colours, two leather trim options with a varying degree of leather finish, as
well as three exclusive trim surfaces add to the high degree of individual
style.

Sufficient Space for Two.
Both the BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW M Roadster offer a lot of space for a car
of this kind: The glove compartment, several storage boxes, as well as a large,
approximately ten-litre box in the rear bulkhead ensure a high degree of
practical value. And whenever required, the variable roof compartment folds up
to provide additional space in the luggage compartment at the rear increasing
from an already generous 240 litres or 8.4 cu ft sufficient for transporting
two golf sets to 260 litres or 9.1 cu ft - in the Z4 M Roadster from 200 (7.0
cu ft) to 220 litres (7.7 cu ft) due to the battery housed in the luggage
compartment in this case.

A Special Roof with Special Folding Configuration.
All of BMW's new Z4 Roadsters come with an extremely compact folding roof where
the front, rigid section moves down on top of the fabric roof like a cover and
locks in position flush with the body of the car. The roof is easy to open and
close with one hand; the heated rear window is made of scratch-proof mineral
glass.

A fully automatic, electrically operated roof is naturally available as an
option and comes as standard on the M Roadster, also opening and closing from
outside by remote control.

Bi-Xenon Headlights for Optimum Visibility.
The BMW Z4 Roadster comes as standard with dual halogen headlights.
As an option - and as a standard feature on the Z4 Roadster 3.0si and the M
Roadster - static bi-xenon headlights ensure maximum high- and
low-beam intensity.

The car's position lights are formed by two light conductor rings, this feature
so characteristic of the BMW brand now also highlighting the Roadster series.

Extra Safety Thanks to the Adaptive Brake Display.
All Z4 Roadsters come as standard with BMW's two-stage Adaptive Brake Display
helping efficiently to avoid collisions from behind: Whenever the driver
applies the brakes hard or with ABS intervening, the illuminated areas in the
rear lights grow larger and are intuitively perceived by motorists following
from behind as a clear sign of an emergency braking manoeuvre. Accordingly,
drivers following the BMW will respond appropriately by applying the brakes
harder in good time and thus benefiting from extra stopping distance.

Options Galore: Top-Class Audio and Navigation Systems.
Apart from the "basic" audio system, the Z4 Roadster is available with two
truly outstanding HiFi systems developed especially for this car. Two
navigation systems also enable the roadster driver to benefit from BMW's
leading position in navigation technology. And the final point is that all of
these systems may be combined with virtually all telecommunication features
currently available.

Whitby. BMW Canada announced pricing today for the new 2006 Z4 Roadsters and
the ultra-high performance M Roadster which go on sale in Canada in March of
2006. The 215 horsepower Z4 3.0i starts at $53,900 while the 255 horsepower Z4
3.0si has a base price of $60,900. The muscular M Roadster, brandishing a
formidable 330 horsepower, will debut with a MSRP of $69,900.

The second generation 3.0i and 3.0si Z4 Roadsters feature BMW's new lightweight
magnesium/aluminum 6 cylinder engines which, combined with Valvetronic
technology and double vanos steplessly variable valve timing, provide increases
of 40 horsepower and 41 horsepower respectively over their predecessor Z4
Roadsters. Mated to 6 speed transmissions, these new powerplants take already
impressive Z4 performance figures to new levels.

The ultra-sports member of the Z4 family, the second-generation M Roadster also
expands the stable of high performance M models and wields the award-winning
3.2 litre M engine matched with a robust 6 speed manual transmission. With 330
horsepower and 262 ft/lb of torque, the M Roadster will be capable of 0 - 100
km/h in a breathtaking 5.0 seconds.

More than any other sports car in the world, this unique car embodies the
typical roadster: The BMW Z4 Roadster thrills the car world through its
fascinating, sporting dynamism created by a perfect synthesis of a
high-performance power unit, the outstanding chassis and suspension, and
innovative features all round. And not least it is the wonderful design of the
BMW Z4 Roadster which makes this car so unique, desirable and a genuine
must-have. And now, four years after its world debut, the BMW Z4 Roadster is
making a new, brilliant appearance with new engines.

Marking another highlight on the same occasion, the only purist
high-performance roadster in the world is making its world debut at the Detroit
Auto Show in Detroit in January 2006: The upcoming BMW Z4 M Roadster is the
high-performance ultra-sports version of the Z4 Roadster so many customers have
been waiting for. Extending BMW's roadster family right at the top, this unique
car takes up and continues the brand's tradition in a segment originally
created by BMW M in the first place: Back in 1997, the BMW Z3 M Roadster marked
the world's first high-performance production roadster, with more than 15,000
units being sold to customers by the year 2002, making the Z3 M Roadster the
best seller in its class and the absolute leader in dynamic performance,
agility, and sportiness.

The Z4 M Roadster: Awe-Inspiring Performance in Every Respect.
Boasting BMW M's straight-six power unit, the Z4 M Roadster features a
high-performance engine unparalleled in the roadster market: In 2005 this
unique engine received the "Engine of the Year Award" acknowledged and highly
respected the world over for the fifth time in a row, setting up a record never
seen before. Through its high-speed concept and virtually optimum transmission
ratios, this outstanding power unit generates enormous thrust and performance
in all speed ranges. Its specifications alone are very impressive: six
cylinders, 3,246 cc, 252 kW/343 hp at 7,900 rpm, 365 Newton-metres/269 lb-ft at
4,900 rpm, maximum engine speed 8,000 rpm.

Two other figures perhaps say even more about the engine's outstanding
performance: Output per litre is 106 hp and the power-to-weight ratio is 4.1
kilos/hp. On the road this means acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, with
the same short time of 5.0 seconds being required for intermediate acceleration
in fourth gear from 80-120 km/h (50-75 mph). Top speed is limited
electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

The Joy of Shifting Gears Six Times Over.
The high-speed engine concept is simply ideal for a sports car in combination
with a short overall transmission ratio, since this allows the conversion of
engine power into optimum thrust on the rear wheels. And combining the M final
drive with a six-speed manual gearbox, the engineers at BMW M are able to
fulfil this requirement to the highest standard. Short and crisp shift travel,
supreme running smoothness, and precise guidance of the shift lever with

Variable M Differential Lock for Supreme Power in Bends.
The Z4 M Roadster comes with the speed-sensitive variable M differential lock
already well-known and greatly admired on the M3. This special feature gives
the car both superior driving stability and optimum traction especially when
accelerating out of a bend. Allowing a very sporting style of motoring,
especially on roads with a higher frictional coefficient, the M differential
lock enables the experienced driver to enhance the positive features of
rear-wheel drive to an even higher standard. Under challenging conditions such
as a different frictional coefficient on each side of the car typical of winter
weather and road surfaces, the system gives the Z4 M Roadster supreme traction

New Six-Cylinder Power Units for the Z4 Roadster.
While the six- and four-cylinder power units featured in the BMW Z4 Roadster
naturally cannot match the output and performance of the M engine, they are
everything but under-powered. Indeed, the new 3.0-litre straight-six in the BMW
Z4 Roadster 3.0si is currently the most innovative engine in its class, setting
the standard in motoring refinement and dynamic performance. Further strengths
are the engine's high output per litre, a very good power-to-weight ratio, and
the lowest specific fuel consumption. Maximum output is 195 kW/265 hp at 6,600
rpm, maximum engine speed is 7,000 rpm, and the engine maintains its peak
torque of 315 Newton-metres or 232 lb-ft maintained consistently from
2,500-4,000 rpm. Complying, last but not least, with both the EU4 and ULEV II
standards, this outstanding power unit is also a role model from the
perspective of the environment.

The most striking feature from the customer's perspective in comparison with
the former engine is the sporting responsiveness of the new power unit in
conjunction with thrilling engine sound whenever the driver calls up its power,
as well as supreme refinement and motoring culture when cruising or just
breezing along.

Superior power and low weight naturally also mean superior performance
and efficiency: The Z4 Roadster 3.0si accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h
in 5.7 seconds, acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth
gear comes in 5.5 seconds.

Like the Z4 M Roadster, the Z4 Roadster 3.0si is limited electronically to
a top speed of 250 or 155 mph. Fuel consumption in the combined EU cycle,
finally, is just 8.6 litres Premium plus/100 km, equal to 32.8 mpg Imp.

Everything but Mediocre: the Two 2.5-Litre Six-Cylinders.
Two 2.5-litre power units round off the range of six-cylinders:
The BMW Z4 Roadster 2.5si, developing maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp, is among
the top performers in its segment. Peak torque of 250 Newton-metres or 184
lb-ft is maintained consistently between 2900 and 4250 rpm, accelerating the Z4
Roadster 2.5si from 0-100 km/h in a mere 6.5 seconds. Equally superior torque
and muscle is borne out by the car's acceleration from 80-120 km/h in fourth
gear likewise in 6.5 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/h or 149 mph, standard fuel
consumption is 8.4 litres Premium plus/100 km, equal to 33.6 mpg Imp. And again
it goes without saying that the Z4 Roadster 2.5si complies in full with both
the EU4 and ULEV II emission standards.

In another version also boasting a 2.5-litre power unit, the Z4 Roadster 2.5i
comes with maximum output of 130 kW/177 hp and peak torque of 230 Newton-metres
or 169 lb-ft, replacing the former BMW Z4 Roadster 2.2i. The big benefit for
the customer offered by the larger engine is the extra power and torque, a
significant advantage above all when accelerating from low speeds.

The performance data: 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, acceleration from
80-120 km/h (50-75 mph) in 4th gear in 7.0 seconds. Top speed is 229 km/h or
142 mph, fuel consumption 8.2 litres premium plus on 100 kilometres (equal to
34.5 mpg Imp), and naturally this model also complies in full with the EU4 and
ULEV II emission standards.

All of these straight-six power units offer the customer best-in-class
performance and excellent running smoothness in typical BMW style. They come
with a composite aluminium/magnesium crankcase, a bedplate structure, and the
cylinder head made of magnesium, fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control,
infinite double-VANOS camshaft adjustment, and four-valve technology.

BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i - Entering the World of Real Roadster Motoring.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder power unit featured in the BMW Z4 Roadster 2.0i
rounds off the range of engines in this unique family of roadster. Developing
110 kW/150 hp at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 200 Newton-metres or 147 lb-ft
at 3,600 rpm, this straight-four also guarantees superior dynamics and
undiluted roadster pleasure: Acceleration to 100 km/h takes just 8.2 seconds,
exactly the same time as the fast sprint from 80-100 km/h (50-75 mph) in fourth
gear. Top speed, in turn, is an equally superior 220 km/h or 136 mph.

Consuming just 7.5 litres premium plus/100 kilometres (equal to 37.7 mpg Imp),
the four-cylinder is very fuel-efficient and, complying with the EU4 and ULEV
II emission standards, offers superior environmental friendliness. The engine
is also equipped with BMW's innovative VALVETRONIC and dual-VANOS management
systems. A further feature is the DISA intake manifold, a technology able to
change the length of the oscillating pipes as a function of engine load.
Operating in conjunction with the engine management system, this technology
ensures a level of spontaneity when accelerating previously only to be found in
sports engines with individual throttle butterflies.

Six Gears on All Models.
All new BMW Z4 Roadsters come with a six-speed manual gearbox. The typical
strengths of this transmission are the short and crisp gearshift travel,
superior running smoothness and precise guidance of the gearshift lever in the
middle, with shift forces remaining smooth and consistent at all times. With
the six gears coming close together with only small increments in between, and
with the large gap between the lowest and highest gear, the driver is always
able to choose the ideal gear ratio quickly and smoothly even when driving fast

functions: Start-Off Assistance on uphill gradients, for example, automatically
operates the brakes for a short period, preventing the car from rolling back on
an uphill gradient and thus no longer requiring the driver to pull the
handbrake when setting off.

Safety is further enhanced by automatic Fading Compensation as well as the
Brake Standby function automatically pre-loading the brake linings. Automatic
Dry Braking of the brake discs on wet roads, in turn, serve to improve brake
response when needed.

The Z4 M Roadster incorporates BMW's variable M differential lock in
combination with a special configuration of the DSC dynamic control system.
Electric Power Steering Optimising the Steering System.

The Z4 Roadster and the Z4 M Roadster also differ in terms of their steering
system: The Z4 Roadster features BMW's electromechanical EPS Electric Power
Steering highlighting the dynamic and agile set-up of the BMW Roadster. This
unique system offers a very high standard of flexibility in its steering
characteristics, an optimum compromise of the steering damping effect and
feedback from the steering, as well as low control forces at low speeds and
when manoeuvring. A further important point is the very good centering effect,
with the steering wheel returning smoothly and reliably to its zero position.
Servotronic, finally, comes as standard.

Cutting-Edge Precision when Steering.
The steering system in the Z4 M Roadster, by contrast, is supported by
hydraulic power assistance. This ensures unparalleled steering manoeuvres in
terms of overall precision and optimum feedback of all driving conditions. The
overall steering transmission ratio is 47 : 1, allowing even faster steering
control and operation and thus offering benefits in terms of supreme driving
dynamics.

Lightweight Brakes with Outstanding Performance.
A new feature is the 17-inch brake system on the Z4 Roadster 3.0i. The
particular fortes in this case are extreme stopping power, very good resistance
to fading, and optimum long-term brake qualities.

Compound High-Performance Brakes Keeping M Power under Control.
With its even higher standard of performance, the Z4 M Roadster features BMW
M's floating compound high-performance brake system originally conceived for
the BMW M3 CSL as a system carried over directly from motorsport. This superior
brake system ensures stopping power of the highest standard, giving the Z4 M
Roadster a stopping distance of just 34 metres or 112 feet from a speed of 100
km/h.

New Highlights in Design.
In their design, both the updated BMW Z4 Roadster and the new Z4 M Roadster
consistently continue the characteristic design language of BMW's thoroughbred
roadster concept: The BMW Z4 Roadster boasts moderate updates including a
modified front section drawn down closer to the road. Other new features are
the foglamps and the reflectors so typical of the car.

Benefiting from new tail lights with integrated light conductors as well as
more horizontal lines, the modifications at the rear give the car an even
wider, lower, and more muscular appearance. Featuring even more sophisticated,
top-quality materials and additional colours, the interior is truly exquisite
in its looks without in any way foregoing its sporting, purist character.

Z4 M Roadster: High Performance at Very First Sight.
Clearly recognisable as a Z4 Roadster, the Z4 M Roadster visualises its
superior character of high performance even more convincingly. The functional
and technical qualities of the car are reflected directly and authentically by
the design of the Z4 M Roadster, numerous details both outside and inside
distinguishing it from the "basic" model.

The most conspicuous highlights are the front air dam with its X-shaped
combination of lines and openings, the large air intake scoops, as well as the
low-slung kidney grille and the two striking precision lines on the engine
compartment lid. A feature exclusive to the Z4 M Roadster is the double-spoke
design of the 18-inch aluminium rims. And last but certainly not least, the
rear end also comes in that typical M style, with four striking tailpipes and a
horizontal diffuser.

The Interior: Sporting and Functional All in One.
Inside, the new BMW Z4 M Roadster boasts a sporting, purist but at the same
time exclusive look throughout. Clear shapes and the very best materials give
the interior its particular touch, powerfully emphasising the thrill of sports
motoring.

The BMW M colours are also to be found on the speedometer and rev counter with
their face finished in black and boasting both white numbers and red indicator
needles accentuated by permanent white illumination.

Yet another unique feature is the engine speed band presented in the rev
counter like in the other BMW M cars: The yellow pre-warning field and the red
warning field limit the permissible range of engine speed as a function of
current engine oil temperature. With the temperature of the oil in the engine
increasing, the useful speed range increases accordingly, making it easier for
the driver to intuitively monitor the current temperature level.

The steering wheel, gearshift lever knob and door entry strips are further
features specific to BMW M, just like the air conditioning and fresh air
adjusters, the door openers and door closing handles galvanically upgraded in
pearl gloss chrome.

Three exterior colours exclusive to BMW M and five special paintwork colours
for the BMW Z4 Roadster enable the customer to give his - or her - Z4 M
Roadster a very special personal touch. Within the interior, no less than four
different colours, two leather trim options with a varying degree of leather
finish, as well as three exclusive trim surfaces add to the high degree of
individual style.

Sufficient Space for Two.
Both the BMW Z4 Roadster and the BMW Z4 M Roadster offer a lot of space for a
car of this kind: The glove compartment, several storage boxes, as well as a
large, approximately ten-litre box in the rear bulkhead ensure a high degree of
practical value. And whenever required, the variable roof compartment folds up
to provide additional space in the luggage compartment at the rear increasing
from an already generous 240 litres or 8.4 cu ft sufficient for transporting
two golf sets to 260 litres or 9.1 cu ft - in the Z4 M Roadster from 200 (7.0
cu ft) to 220 litres (7.7 cu ft) due to the battery housed in the luggage
compartment in this case.

A Special Roof with Special Folding Configuration.
All of BMW's new Z4 Roadsters come with an extremely compact folding roof where
the front, rigid section moves down on top of the fabric roof like a cover and
locks in position flush with the body of the car. The roof is easy to open and
close with one hand; the heated rear window is made of scratch-proof mineral
glass.

A fully automatic, electrically operated roof is naturally available as an
option and comes as standard on the Z4 M Roadster, also opening and closing
from outside by remote control.

Bi-Xenon Headlights for Optimum Visibility.
The BMW Z4 Roadster comes as standard with dual halogen headlights. As an
option - and as a standard feature on the Z4 Roadster 3.0si and the Z4 M
Roadster - static bi-xenon headlights ensure maximum high- and low-beam
intensity.

The car's position lights are formed by two light conductor rings, this feature
so characteristic of the BMW brand now also highlighting the Roadster series.

Extra Safety Thanks to the Adaptive Brake Display.
All Z4 Roadsters come as standard with BMW's two-stage Adaptive Brake Display
helping efficiently to avoid collisions from behind: Whenever the driver
applies the brakes hard or with ABS intervening, the illuminated areas in the
rear lights grow larger and are intuitively perceived by motorists following
from behind as a clear sign of an emergency braking manoeuvre. Accordingly,
drivers following the BMW will respond appropriately by applying the brakes
harder in good time and thus benefiting from extra stopping distance.

Options Galore: Top-Class Audio and Navigation Systems.
Apart from the "basic" audio system, the Z4 Roadster is available with two
truly outstanding HiFi systems developed especially for this car. Two
navigation systems also enable the roadster driver to benefit from BMW's
leading position in navigation technology. And the final point is that all of
these systems may be combined with virtually all telecommunication features
currently available.

A world debut full of emotion - precisely this is what BMW is presenting at the
Frankfurt Motor Show: The BMW Z4 Coupé Concept Car, more than any other
exhibit, clearly represents and embodies the motto of the world's largest car
show: the Thrill of Motoring.

Presenting this Concept Car, BMW is establishing new trends in terms of design,
concepts, and technology. And with its performance truly outstanding in every
respect, the Z4 Coupé Concept Car clearly bears out all the classic values of
the BMW brand. Considering the consistently growing market for high-profile
premium sports cars, finally, the decision to build
such an emotional two-seater Sports Coupé as a regular production model is
almost obvious.

Munich. The BMW for sun worshippers puts all others in the shade. In the
EuroNCAP test from May 2004, the open-topped BMW Z4 Roadster turned in the best
test results ever seen in the Roadster segment.

'The BMW Z4 is as safe as it is exciting. Ever since it was launched, it has
remained the top car of its class. And now it has been shown to be the safest
of its class too, for drivers and passengers alike,' says Martin Klanner, Z4
project manager of the BMW Group in Munich.
With more than 19.000 cars sold this year worldwide by May the Z4 is the most
successful roadster in its segment also for 2004. It is keeping this position
ever since market introduction in October 2002.

BMW Z4 Roadster demonstrates just what is possible nowadays:
Passenger stress is even lower than in solid-top vehicles

The EuroNCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) assesses the level of risk
of driver and passenger injury on a sixteen-point scale. The Z4's numbers were
15.64 for a frontal impact and 16.00 for a crash from the side. These are the
best results ever recorded by this test procedure.

Exciting design, calming safety.
Stability comes from within

Although the Z4 does not have a fixed roof construction, the level of passenger
stress in the event of an accident is even lower than in most modern vehicles
with a solid roof.
'This is a milestone for the development of vehicle safety and at the same time
an impressive demonstration of the strength of innovation shown by BMW
engineers,' comments Martin Klanner.
But not only has the Z4 won the top score for safety, it is at the same time
extremely deformation resistant, an important factor of the BMW Roadster's
sporting performance.
These superior test results are also confirmed by the virtual crash tests,
which BMW applied in the development of the Z4's bodyshell structure up to its
current level. The Z4 obtains its high level of stability from the central Y
support in the floor pan section, in association with the frame construction in
the side panels, which extend from the front wheel arch via the sill to the
rear section, and are made of high-strength steel material. They are connected
to the safety cage via the rollover protector in the A column/windscreen frame,
the foot-rest surfaces, with optimised intrusion properties, and the traverse
body sills with the integrated rollover protectors behind the seats.

BMW Z4 pace setter with further innovative safety features:
Run-flat tyres, tyre puncture indicator and two-level brake light.

The Z4 is also a trend setter in terms of safety in many other areas. The
sport-style, open-top two-seater is available exclusively with run-flat tyres.
The tyre faces make it considerably easier to control vehicle reactions in the
event of a sudden puncture and it is even possible to continue driving for up
to 150 km even following a complete loss of tyre pressure. Since eighty percent
of all punctures are preceded by a slow pressure drop, a puncture warning
indicator is fitted as standard. This warns the driver well in advance, should
a drop in pressure occur in any of the tyres, before any serious damage occurs.
Another BMW innovation with which the Z4 is fitted as standard is the two-level
brake light. In the event of an emergency stop, additional LEDs are activated
in the brake lights, which have the effect of enhancing the warning signal to
any vehicles to the rear.

The Advanced Safety Electronic (ASE) system constitutes the mastermind for a
number of further, standard safety features, all included in the Z4. It is
responsible for triggering off the airbags in appropriate situations - of
course only the ones that are actually required in the given circumstances -
and activates the seat-belt tightening mechanism. It also disconnects the
battery, switches off the generator and fuel pump, releases the central lock
and activates the interior light and hazard warning lamps. If either the
'Professional' or 'Business' telephone - available as an optional extra - is
fitted, an emergency call is placed automatically via the 'BMW Assist'
telematic service, and the location of the vehicle stated. A voice connection
to the emergency switchboard is also set up.

Whitby, Ontario... Built on a solid foundation of performance, safety and
dynamic driving pleasure, the new BMW Z4 roadster will be available later this
month at Canadian BMW retail centres. This premium roadster will be offered in
two engine variants, with the 2.5 litre version priced at $51,500 and the 3.0
litre variant priced at $59,500.

The new Z4 roadster reinforces BMW's strength in roadsters designed for
superior driving pleasure. With its long, sleek and stretched-out engine
compartment, the snug cockpit wrapped around the driver and passenger, and the
short, muscular rear end, the BMW Z4 boasts all the attributes typical of a
classic roadster. Adding to the premium appeal is a standard soft top with
heated glass rear window that can be operated automatically (standard on 3.0i,
optional on 2.5i) up or down in under 10 seconds.

The new Z4 comes with the two top versions of BMW's highly acclaimed inline
six-cylinder engine: The 2.5-litre developing maximum output of 184 bhp at
6,000 rpm and the 3.0-litre with maximum output of 225 bhp at 5,900 rpm.
Moreover, optional Sport Packages ($1,500on 2.5i ; $1,700 on 3.0i) include
Dynamic Drive Control, which switches the vehicle to sport mode and calls up
power even more spontaneously.

The Z4 2.5i is fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox, the 3.0i comes standard
with a new six-speed manual transmission. Optional 5 speed automatic
transmission with STEPTRONIC is available on both models ($1,290). The 50/50
weight distribution combined with rear-wheel drive offers ideal attributes for
precise handling.

Safety is an integral aspect of all BMW vehicles, and the Z4 is no exception.
In addition to standard Dynamic Stability Control with Dynamic Traction
Control, the Z4 comes equipped with six airbags (front, head and knee),
bi-xenon headlights which dramatically increase clarity during night driving,
and standard run flat tires.

The BMW Z4 will be available at BMW retail centres across the country in late
October 2002.
