Munich. Summer 2025 is set to bring innovations in
electric drive technology and digitalisation as well as new standard
and optional equipment features that will make the current BMW model
range even more attractive. New power electronics in the all-electric
BMW i4 result in even greater efficiency and increased range. The most
powerful BMW i4 will also debut at the same time. Numerous BMW models
will come as standard with Comfort Access and the BMW Digital Key,
which has now become even easier to set up.

From summer 2025, the BMW X1 and BMW X2 will be available with new
exterior and interior options. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
now offers an alternative voice.

BMW i4: reduced consumption, new range-topper with extra power.

From July 2025, the BMW i4 eDrive35 as well as the BMW i4
eDrive40 will come with silicon carbide semiconductor components in
the power electronics (SiC inverter), which reduce consumption by
around 4.5 per cent while adding up to 22 kilometres of range
(depending on the model and equipment installed as part of an
individual vehicle configuration).

From July 2025, the new range topper for the all-electric BMW i4
comes in the shape of the BMW i4 M60 xDrive. Compared to the
predecessor, it provides an additional 42 kW/57 hp of power, for a
system output of 442 kW/601 hp. The new BMW i4 M60 xDrive takes 3.7
seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.

BMW Digital Key: smartphone used as key enables many
additional functions.

The BMW Digital Key will soon become the tool of choice to unlock and
lock many BMW models, courtesy of a simplified set-up process. The BMW
iX was the first to be updated in March 2025, and many model series
will follow from July 2025: the BMW X1, BMW X2, BMW 5 Series Sedan,
BMW M5, BMW M5 Touring and BMW 7 Series. The BMW X5, BMW X5 M, BMW X6,
BMW X6 M, BMW X7 and BMW XM models will follow from August 2025. The
BMW X3 will come with the new set-up process in the US from August
2025 and in South Africa from September 2025.

The feature will then include a physical key, a Setup Card and a
Service Card. The new Setup Card makes it easier than ever to set up
the BMW Digital Key on smartphones from all major manufacturers by
simply holding the card to the mobile phone or scanning the QR code on
the back. The next step takes the user straight into the My BMW app.
After authorisation via the Setup Card, the BMW ID is linked to the
vehicle and the BMW Digital Key is then activated. After activation,
the customer can easily share the Digital Key with other people by
sending them a text message. Activation is possible on up to 18
devices. Owners can define various roles and permissions for each
vehicle user. A particularly useful function ideal for novice drivers
is limiting acceleration and top speed, for example. If a physical key
does need to be handed over, for example in the workshop or in the
event of a breakdown, the new Service Card can be used. This should
always be carried deactivated so it can be activated as a
fully-fledged key when needed, via a click on the central display.

For all eventualities: tyre repair kit and tyre repair kit Plus.

From summer 2025, the tyre repair kit will come as standard for
various BMW models. These include the BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW 3 Series
Sedan, BMW 3 Series Touring, BMW 4 Series Coupé and the BMW 4 Series
Convertible. The optional tyre repair kit Plus is available for the
BMW X3.

Individual paintwork finishes at a glance, in the BMW Configurator.

Customers appreciate the BMW Individual paintwork colours as a way to
add a personal touch to their new BMW. Special paintwork finishes
which previously required looking up in the BMW Individual Visualiser
can be selected within the BMW Configurator. With just a few
exceptions, this applies to all BMW models.

BMW BEV models: free extended warranty for high-voltage batteries.

Since 1 April 2025, BMW has offered a global complimentary extended
warranty for the high-voltage batteries in all-electric BMW models.
The new warranty applies up to a vehicle age of eight years or a
maximum mileage of 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. Should a
high-voltage battery’s capacity drop below 70 per cent during the
warranty period, BMW will remedy this loss of capacity at no extra
cost to the customer. This applies to all new and used all-electric
BMW models from 1 April 2025.

New colours for BMW X1 and BMW X2.

Summer 2025 will bring new exterior and interior options for the BMW
X1 and BMW X2. New paintwork colours include Vegas Red metallic, Night
Dusk Blue and Dune Grey metallic for the BMW X2. All three colours are
also available for the BMW X1, along with BMW Individual Frozen
Portimao Blue metallic. Veganza perforated upholstery in the colours
Castanea, Smoke White and Atlas Grey/Smoke White is newly available
for customising the interior of the BMW X2. The Castanea and Smoke
White colourways are available for the BMW X1. The Econeer Bicolour
Blue upholstery can be ordered from summer 2025 in combination with
front sport seats only. Another new option is the Brushed Aluminium
Shadow interior trim.

More comprehensive equipment for BMW 7 Series, BMW X3 and BMW iX.

The BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 now feature laminated safety glass with
contrast print as standard. From summer 2025, comfort glazing, sun
protection glazing and the Heat Comfort package will also be available
as individual options for the first time, enabling even more specific customisation.

A new equipment option for the BMW X3 is the attractive M door sill
trim. It can be ordered for the M Sport package, M Sport package Pro
and the BMW X3 M50 xDrive.

BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic is a new paintwork finish
with a particularly distinctive character, available as an option for
the BMW iX from summer 2025.

Ultimate Package for BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition.

The BMW X5 M Competition and the BMW X6 M Competition now benefit
from the optional Ultimate Package. In addition to the M Carbon engine
cover, this also includes M Carbon mirror caps, the Sky Lounge
panoramic glass sunroof, active seat ventilation as well as the
massage function at the front and the Comfort Package. The Bowers
& Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System ensures exceptional sound
quality. The M Driver’s Package included as part of the package
increases top speed to 290 km/h. In the BMW X6 M Competition, this is
complemented by an exclusive M Carbon rear spoiler.

Comprehensively upgraded BMW iDrive.

Among the numerous innovations in the area of digital services is the
upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant in BMW Operating System 9.

In the BMW X3, customers in many countries* can now link their own
Amazon Alexa account to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. This
enables them to use intuitive voice control to enjoy music via the
“Hey BMW” command – courtesy of Alexa running in the background, just
like at home. In addition, a second voice is now available for the
assistant.** Further improvements in language understanding and faster
processing speeds contribute to a more harmonious overall experience.

From summer 2025, BMW Digital Premium with BMW Operating System 9
will, subject to country-specific availability, enable customers to
use the Zoom app on their Curved Display for videoconferencing when
the vehicle is stationary. To avoid distractions, the app
automatically deactivates the video while driving.

* US, Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy.

** In the US, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, France,
Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Iceland, Malta,
Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein.

Parking Assistant Plus upgrade.

From July 2025, the functions of the Parking Assistant Plus will be
enhanced for many BMW models. It will now also use marker lines around
parking spots to help identify available spaces and ensure parking
precision. Previously, this feature was only available as part of the
Parking Assistant Professional.

BMW Maps user interface upgrades in BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW Maps offers intuitive destination entry and intelligent route
guidance and will come with further user interface improvements from
summer 2025. For faster access to frequently used functions, the home
screen of the control display will feature direct touch buttons for
“Home” and “Work” in the BMW Maps QuickSelect Widget, for example.

Road trip with BMW roadster models from four generations.</pp:summary>

Munich. For classic car fans in North America, the
Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has long been the perfect
season-opening event. And the 28th running of the spring get-together
shone the spotlight on exquisite rarities from days gone by, as well
new models from Bavaria. BMW and BMW M GmbH joined forces to present
the new editions of their Sports Activity Vehicles and Sports Activity
Coupés – produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Introduced to the
public for first time were the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6, plus the BMW
X5 M Competition high-performance models, with their extensively
upgraded design and technology.

Precise design modifications, including new headlights and the latest
version of the fully digital control/operation system BMW iDrive with
BMW Curved Display, bring fresh cutting-edge appeal to the exterior
and interior of the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6. And taking driving
pleasure to new heights are the new and more powerful drive system for
the BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid model and the likewise new engines
with 48V mild hybrid technology fitted in all other model variants.
The new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition have a
visibly honed exterior and, for the first time, a shared front-end
design. The cabins of both vehicles feature state-of-the-art
technology in the form of the BMW Curved Display including the BMW
iDrive control/operation system with M-specific screen content. Their
extensively modified V8 engines now also work with 48V technology and
deliver their maximum output of 460 kW/625 hp with even greater
urgency and in even more impressive style.

All four models handed their world premieres at Amelia Island also
benefit from a significantly expanded portfolio of systems for
automated driving and parking. For example, the cars can now be parked
and complete manoeuvres carried out from outside the vehicle using an
Apple iPhone.

BMW Group Classic glitters with racing legends and design icons.

Joining the fray alongside the sporty new arrivals from BMW and BMW M
at Amelia Island was a true legend of motor sport – the BMW 3.0 CSL.
BMW Group Classic brought the fabled racer to the show to mark a very
special anniversary. Exactly 50 years ago, Toine Hezemans (NL) and
Dieter Quester (AT) drove the 3.0 CSL to victory in the touring car
(“Tourisme Spéciale”) class at the Le Mans 24 Hours race. The
reliability of the 3.3-litre engine in the number 51 car played a key
role here, as the pairing also finished 11th in the overall standings
at the prestigious endurance classic.

At Amelia Island, the 3.0 CSL racing coupé took turns on display in
the BMW Group Classic space with the series-produced version of the
two-door car also known as the “Batmobile” (on account of its
spectacular rear wing). This final development stage of the BMW 3.0
CSL with 3.2-litre engine producing 206 hp, of which only 167 examples
were made, is also celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Adding the
cherry to the cake of the BMW Group Classic line-up was the BMW 507.
The roadster’s reputation as one of the most iconic BMW cars of all
time endures to this day.

BMW Z3 and BMW Z4: hallmark BMW roadster feeling across four generations.

The run-up to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance saw almost three
decades of roadster history reunited. A road trip through Florida
brought together a handful of BMW Z3 and BMW Z4 models from four
generations. The line-up of cars selected for the tour from southern
Florida to the venue for the classic car event in the north-east of
the Sunshine State ranged from the BMW Z3 to the latest BMW Z4, which
recently gained a fresh round of design and equipment updates.

The BMW Z3 was the first model built for the global market at BMW
Group Plant Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina. The
roadster was unveiled in 1995 and made its first public appearance in
the blockbuster James Bond movie GoldenEye. It remained on
sale until 2002, when it was replaced by the first BMW Z4. With its
eye-catching lines and cutting-edge equipment details, the Z4 put
clear ground between itself and its predecessor. Seven years further
on, the second-generation BMW Z4 provided a fresh interpretation of
the roadster art – with its elegantly sweeping lines and, most
notably, a retractable metal hardtop which could be lowered and raised
again electrohydraulically at the touch of a button. The third
generation of the Z4 has been putting smiles on the faces of open-top
driving pleasure aficionados since 2018. Crisp proportions, a
classical – and electrically powered – soft-top roof and a new level
of dynamic talent set it apart from the crowd, as does the
unique-in-its-segment straight-six engine of the range-topping model.

Press Contact: Marc Belcourt
Tel: +1-905-428-5078
E-mail: marc.belcourt@bmwgroup.ca

Press Release,X5,G05,Z4,X6,X5 M,X6 M,G29,G06,F95,F96,Product,BMW,BMW M

Richmond Hill, ON. Dynamic flair, a powerful
presence, and modern luxury define the character of the new 2024 BMW
X5 M Sports Activity Vehicle and 2024 X6 M Sports Activity Coupe. The
BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M will now be globally offered exclusively as
Competition models – with a new V8 engine with 48V mild-hybrid
technology delivering a maximum output of 617 hp, exterior design
updates, and the latest-generation iDrive control/operation system,
complete with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Operating System 8.

The new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition will make
their public debut at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in March,
and production will begin at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in April. The
competence centre for BMW X models also hosts production of the BMW X3
M, the BMW X4 M and the BMW XM – the first high-performance vehicle
from BMW M GmbH with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The first high-performance models from BMW M GmbH to feature
48V technology.

With the latest generation of drivetrain technology for the new
BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition, BMW M GmbH is
forging ahead with electrification. In these new vehicles, 48V
mild-hybrid technology makes its debut with BMW M, enhancing a new V8
engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo technology. Together, the boost
provided by the electric motor and the high-revving character of the
V8 engine take the performance for which M cars are renowned to an
even more compelling level.

The electric motor, complete with power electronics, is integrated
into the compact housing of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and
delivers an additional up to 12 hp of output and 147 lb-ft of torque.
The result is a noticeably more rapid power delivery, enabling the
powertrain to respond to every movement of the accelerator. The surge
of power continues steadily into the upper reaches of the rev range.
For the driver, this means extremely spirited and assured performance,
both when accelerating off the line and during mid-range acceleration.
With the electric motor supporting the combustion engine under steady
loads, in many situations the engine can work within an optimum load
window, thus increasing its efficiency.

The energy required for the additional electrical power is stored in
a 48V battery in the engine compartment. The battery is charged
through adaptive recuperation under braking and on the overrun, and
also supplies the electrical system with the recuperated energy. The
electric motor also works as a crankshaft-mounted starter generator.
This ensures the combustion engine sparks to life smoothly, something
the driver will notice in the operation of Auto Start/Stop function;
the 48V generator shuts off the engine with minimal vibration and
starts it up again unobtrusively.

New V8 engine with optimized power delivery and increased efficiency.

The new S68 4.4-liter V8 engine in the 2024 BMW X5 M Competition and
X6 M Competition is notable for its sharper response and increased
efficiency compared to its predecessor. As well as a cross-bank
exhaust manifold, the engine now also features a reinforced crankshaft
drive, further developed turbocharging – mounted close to the exhaust
manifold and with an electrically controlled blow-off valve – plus a
new air intake duct, a new vane-type oil pump and a weight-optimized
plastic oil sump.

A willingness to rev and seamless power delivery define the new V8
engine. It produces its peak torque of 553 lb-ft between 1,800 and
5,800 rpm and generates a maximum output of 617 hp at 6,000 rpm. The
new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition each accelerate
from 0 to 100 km/h mph in 3.9 seconds. The top speed of both models is
electronically limited to 250 km/h, or 285 km/h with the optional
M Driver’s Package.

The new V8 engine produces suitably dramatic sounds from the standard
M Sport exhaust system, which features dual-branch pipes with large
cross sections, high-capacity silencers, electrically controlled flaps
and two pairs of tailpipes with Black Chrome finishers positioned
either side of the rear apron in customary M fashion. New catalytic
converters also reduce the engine’s emissions.

New 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with integrated electric motor.

In addition to the electric motor that has been incorporated for the
48V mild-hybrid system, the updated 8-Speed M Steptronic gearbox
benefits from new gear ratios and a sharper shift action. The shorter
ratios in the first three gears are ideal for accelerating hard off
the line, while the transmission’s wider ratio spread increases the
drive system’s overall efficiency. Shift sharpness benefits greatly
from the transmission’s refined hydraulic control featuring a
direct-acting pressure regulator valve.

The torque converter has been tuned to match the performance
characteristics of the new V8 engine. A new cast-aluminum oil sump
with cooling fins and increased capacity optimizes transmission
temperature control as well as helping to keep it supplied with
lubricant under high lateral acceleration.

The new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition are each fitted
with a hydraulically damped transmission mount which, like the two
engine mounts, has a very high spring rate. This results in a
noticeably more rigid connection between the entire drivetrain and the
body structure, enabling power from the entire drivetrain to be
deployed as directly as possible while enhancing handling by
minimizing flex.

Near-actuator wheel slip limitation: greater speed and precision.

The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential at
the rear axle are responsible for applying the power of the new
TwinPower Turbo V8 to the road. Instead of just being interconnected
with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system as before, they now
work in tandem with near-actuator wheel slip limitation, ensuring
swift, precise reactions to changes in the driving situation.

Integrated into the engine management, this traction control system
makes corrective inputs up to ten times faster than conventional DSC
systems, and with exceptional precision. Because of the speed with
which the near-actuator wheel slip limitation responds to any loss of
traction, especially when accelerating hard or taking corners at
speed, the DSC system has to intervene far less frequently with
selective applications of the brakes at individual wheels to maintain
composed and assured handling.

Chassis. Precise wheel location, high body rigidity, refined
suspension damping.

The chassis design benefits from careful refinements to the
suspension to refine the linear build-up of lateral forces during the
sort of performance driving for which BMW M models are intended. The
double-wishbone front axle boasts excellent levels of longitudinal and
lateral rigidity, while a large shear panel and model-specific
underfloor struts help to deliver precise handling and sharp turn-in characteristics.

The five-link rear axle on the new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M
Competition also includes components designed for extremely high
levels of torsional stiffness. The toe-in values at the rear axle have
been modified for greater poise at very high speeds. Body rigidity at
the rear of the vehicle has been further improved by measures such as
the addition of thrust arms and a tunnel bridge that is joined
together above the exhaust pipes.

Reworked dampers are adjusted automatically based on sensor data
regarding body movement, road surface conditions, and steering inputs.
This data allows the damping forces for each individual wheel to be
smoothly adapted to the changing driving situation in just a few
milliseconds using electromagnetic valves. The basic damper setting
can be changed to suit preferences in the M Setup menu. Comfort mode
delivers impressive levels of long-distance comfort, while the Sport
setting activates a firmer setup for the body resulting in increased
grip and enhanced lateral performance. The damper settings in Sport
Plus mode are designed for highly dynamic driving situations.

M Servotronic steering with new steering gear.

A key part of the confidence-inspiring handling of the new BMW X5 M
Competition and BMW X6 M Competition is their M Servotronic steering
and its excellent directional accuracy and clear feedback. It combines
speed-sensitive power assistance and a variable steering ratio,
enabling it to deliver exactly the right amount of steering response
for the situation. The M Setup menu offers a choice of two settings
for either very sporty or more comfort-oriented steering response.

Latest-generation integrated braking system.

The M Compound brakes fitted as standard on the new
BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition comprise six-piston,
fixed-caliper brakes with perforated discs measuring 15.6 inches in
diametre at the front and single-piston, floating caliper units with
15.0-inch discs at the rear. Besides the standard blue finish, the
calipers can also be specified in red or black.

The latest-generation integrated braking system featured in the new
BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition generates enormous
stopping power with consistent pedal feel. This system packages the
brake activation, brake booster, and braking control functions within
a single compact module. The required brake pressure is triggered
using an electric actuator, meaning braking requests from the driver
assistance systems are also translated into extremely short stopping
distances for increased active safety. The M-specific integrated
braking system presents the driver with two pedal feel settings,
allowing a choice between more comfort-oriented or very direct
execution of brake pedal inputs in the M Setup menu.

Design. Slim headlights, new BMW kidney grille, and wide-open
air intakes.

The BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition present new
front-end designs based around crisp, expansive surfaces, resulting in
a look of modernity and muscularity in the current BMW design
language. In the middle of the front end, the BMW kidney grille and
central lower air intake form a single black area. This X-shaped
element produces a dynamic, forward-oriented impression.

A model-specific spoiler lip – also in black – forms the lower edge
of the front apron on the new BMW X6 M Competition. It helps to
optimize the aerodynamic balance of the Sports Activity Coupe and
gives the X6 M Competition the appearance of sitting lower to the ground.

The new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition each
receive an updated design of the signature BMW headlights and
twin-kidney grille. The outline of the new Shadowline Headlight units
is about 35 mm narrower than on the outgoing models. Their
arrow-shaped elements point outwards and serve as daytime running
lights and turn signal indicators.

The BMW kidney grille is all black in colour and carries the relevant
model badging in an enlarged letter/number combination. Its matte
black surround creates a subtle contrast against the dark surfaces
around it. The lower air intake and both side air intakes are also
very open, enabling optimum inflow of cooling air for the
high-performance engine and braking system of the new
BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition.

New BMW X5 M Competition: rear lights with bold X graphic.

Viewing the new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition in
profile highlights the distinctive proportions of each model and their
clear, modern design language. Like the surrounds for the BMW kidney
grille and air breathers, the exterior mirror caps and the model
badges at the rear are also finished in high-gloss black as standard.

The L-shape familiar in the taillight designs from other BMW models
is reflected horizontally in the new rear lights on the BMW X5 M
Competition, creating an X motif. The vertical reflectors are now
integrated lower down in the rear apron, bringing the vehicle’s visual
centre of gravity closer to the road.

On both models, a prominent diffuser insert extends downwards at the
lower edge of the rear apron. It also provides a sophisticated border
for the familiar pairs of twin exhaust tailpipes. The four tailpipe
trims are in Black Chrome and each measure 4 inches in diametre.

New exterior paint finishes added to the range.

The selection of paint colours for the new BMW X5 M Competition and
new BMW X6 M Competition now includes Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Isle of
Man Green Metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey Metallic.

At launch, customers will be able to choose from around 50 BMW
Individual Manufaktur paint shades for both models. These include
metallic and non-metallic finishes, as well as Frozen finishes. These
exclusive paint options are applied in a meticulous process and the
spectrum of colours is being expanded all the time.

Modern. Digital. M cockpit with BMW Curved Display.

Digital innovations enrich the performance experience in the new
BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition, and create a fresh,
open, and contemporary interior design. At the heart of the design
updates for the interior is the BMW Curved Display, which gives the
M-typical cockpit a modern and expansive feel. The single glass
surface incorporating the information display and control display and
curved towards the driver takes a new approach to enhancing
concentration on the dynamic driving experience. The high-resolution
digital screen rests on the now slimmer instrument panel, which is
trimmed in leather as standard. Also newly designed are the central
air vents, which are now extremely narrow and integrated into the
instrument panel almost out of sight.

The broad, smoothly curving trim element below the BMW Curved Display
emphasizes the width of the instrument panel and therefore the
generous space of the interior. Fineline Black wood trim with Metal
Effect is standard. Carbon Fibre trim and Ash Flowing Grey Open-Pored
Trim are optional.

Ambient Light Bar with configurable backlighting and alert
function.

Also new is the ambient Light Bar with crystalline surface structure
and LED featuring the M logo integrated below the trim element in the
front passenger area. The Light Bar brings another element to the
standard ambient lighting and features an alert function that can
signal an incoming telephone call with a dynamic chaser light. The
ambient lighting distribution, brightness, and colour can be
configured via the iDrive menu.

Familiar M accents, seat surfaces in new colours, new carbon
gearshift paddles.

The standard M leather steering wheel in the new BMW X5 M Competition
and new BMW X6 M Competition frame newly designed gearshift paddles in
carbon fibre.

The interiors of both vehicles are upholstered in Full Merino leather
available in seven colours including the new Ivory White/Atlas Grey combination.

Expanded suite of assistance systems.

The Parking Assistant Professional package now incorporates both the
Reversing Assistant and the advanced Maneuver Assistant. The Reversing
Assistant is able to store steering movements for distances of up to
200 metres and then reproduce them in reverse. Drivers also have the
ability to control maneuvers into and out of especially tight parking
spaces from outside the vehicle using the My BMW App on their
smartphone (available for Apple iPhones running iOS 16.2 or later).
The Maneuver Assistant is capable of recording up to ten maneuvers at
different locations covering a distance of up to 200 metres each (with
a maximum total distance of 600 metres) and subsequently performing
them as an automated routine. The driver is able to control each
maneuver either from inside the vehicle or remotely using their Apple
iPhone while they monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

M Setup menu and M Mode for a customized performance experience.

At the heart of the M-specific control/operation concept is the
M Setup menu. The Setup button located on the centre console provides
direct access to the settings options for the engine, chassis,
steering, braking system and M xDrive. This enables the driver to
tailor every detail of the overall vehicle setup to the prevailing
driving situation and their individual preferences.

Two individually configured setup variants can be stored permanently,
together with the preferred settings for the engine note, the DSC
system, the Automatic Start/Stop function and the shift
characteristics of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. Either
configuration can then be selected by pressing one of the two
M buttons on the steering wheel. The driver’s preferred setups can be
saved and assigned to one of the two M buttons as soon as they have
been configured in the menu in the new BMW X5 Competition and BMW X6 M Competition.

The amount of content shown in the information display and M specific
BMW Head-Up Display can also be individually tailored, as can the
level of driver assistance system functionality. After pressing the
M Mode button on the centre console, drivers are able to activate the
desired setting with a touch of the control display. Besides the
default ROAD setting and SPORT mode, they are also offered the choice
of TRACK mode as standard in the new BMW X5 M Competition and
BMW X6 M Competition. This last mode fully deactivates the assistance
systems at the same time as switching to a reduced selection of
readouts focused purely on driving-related information.

Digital advances with new BMW iDrive, BMW Curved Display, and
BMW Operating System 8.

The new BMW X5 M Competition and BMW X6 M Competition come as
standard with BMW Digital Cockpit Professional, which brings with it
an M-specific version of the latest-generation BMW iDrive interface.
Powered by BMW Operating System 8, it comprises a BMW Curved Display
formed by a 12.3-inch information display and a control display with a
screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. The new display grouping and the
continually expanding capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal
Assistant mean the new BMW iDrive has been deliberately geared towards
touch control and natural speech.

M‑specific content, including the familiar Shift Lights, appears in
both the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Head-Up Display.

The standard BMW Digital Key Plus enables customers to lock and
unlock their X5 M Competition or X6 M Competition via
security-enhanced ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technology from a
compatible smartphone running either the iOS or Android operating
system. A conventional car key is no longer required. Simply
approaching the car or walking away triggers the unlocking or locking
process; there is no need for the customer to even remove their
smartphone from their pocket.

The BMW Digital Key Plus can be set up using the My BMW App. The car
owner can also share it – and therefore access to the vehicle – with
up to five other users who have a smartphone with either iOS or Android.

BMW M GmbH closes anniversary year with new sales record.

Munich. At the end of its anniversary year, BMW M
GmbH has once again achieved record results. Global sales of
performance and high-performance cars rose to 177,257 vehicles during
the 2022 financial year. This represents an increase of 8.4 per cent
compared to the previous year, despite the continuing challenging
conditions in the area of logistics and supply chains. The most
important single market in 2022 was again the USA, with the second
most important sales region again being the German domestic market,
followed by the UK.

“The enthusiasm of the M community for emotionally powerful
performance on the road and on the racetrack has carried us through
the entire anniversary year,” says Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of
the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “This is also expressed in a
new sales record for BMW M automobiles, which gives us a positive
outlook for 2023.”

BMW i4 M50: the best-selling BMW M automobile drives locally
emission-free.
At the same time, 2022 marks BMW M
GmbH's successful start into the age of electric mobility. “The
best-selling BMW M automobile of 2022 is the all-electric BMW i4 M50,”
says Timo Resch, Head of Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “For
us, this is a clear signal that the unique M feeling has arrived in
the world of electrified vehicles.” The BMW i4 M50 is powered by an
electric motor on both the front and rear axles, which together
generate a maximum output of 400 kW/544 hp. The perfectly coordinated
power delivery of the two e-motors and independent suspension tuning
ensure an M-typical driving experience characterised by dynamics,
agility and precision, which proved to be a real crowd-puller right
from the outset.

With the BMW iX M60*, a second all-electric performance car from BMW
M GmbH made a highly successful debut. During the course of 2023, BMW
M GmbH will continue its product offensive with, among other things,
the first electrified high-performance automobile, the BMW XM, and the
BMW i7 M70, a BMW M automobile based on the fully electric BMW i7. The
further transformation towards electric mobility has also already been
mapped out. In order to be able to include high-performance cars with
purely electric drive in the range in the future, BMW M GmbH will
intensify the corresponding concept testing in 2023. The focus will be
on an integrated driving dynamics control system and an electric M
xDrive all-wheel drive system with four electric motors, which will
ensure that the emotionally powerful M feeling reaches an even higher level.

Anniversary year with spectacular premieres, BMW M3 and BMW M4
remain on the road to success, fast-paced launch for the new BMW
M240i xDrive Coupe*.
The celebrations of the 50th
anniversary of BMW M GmbH were accompanied by debuts for numerous
spectacular new models. The broad spectrum of new releases ranged from
the second generation of the puristic BMW M2*, with its combination of
straight six-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual transmission and
rear-wheel drive, which evokes classic driving pleasure in a
high-performance automobile, to the extroverted BMW XM with its
480 kW/653 hp M HYBRID drive. The first BMW M3 Touring* also offers
completely new ways to experience M-typical performance. This
diversity creates ideal conditions for attracting additional target
groups and generating further growth in 2023.

The current increase in sales figures is also based on sales
successes in a wide range of vehicle segments. The high-performance
sports cars of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 series, which – including the new
BMW M3 Touring – are available in four body variants, in two
performance levels, with a choice of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission, as well as with rear-wheel drive or the
all-wheel drive system M xDrive, continued to enjoy particularly
widespread popularity in 2022. BMW M GmbH thus covers a wide range of
customer needs in this core segment.

With an exceptionally strong performance within their competitive
environment, the high-performance cars based on BMW X models also
contributed to BMW M GmbH's new sales record. The upcoming upgrade for
the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M models in spring 2023 will provide effective
impetus for a continuation of this success story.

The successful launch of the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupe in 2022
proved to be a highlight in the performance car segment. The new
edition of the compact two-door is powered by a 275 kW/374 hp
straight-six engine and is now also available with classic rear-wheel
drive. “The new sales record for BMW M Automobiles is based on our
successful presence in a broad range of vehicle segments,” says Timo
Resch. “With our wide-ranging product portfolio, we are also ideally
positioned for the future.”

Premiere at Daytona: the new BMW M3 CS* and the BMW M Hybrid V8.
In addition, BMW M GmbH fulfils the desire for particularly
concentrated racing characteristics with attractive special models –
as early as 2022 with the BMW M4 CSL* and soon with the new BMW M3 CS.

The BMW M3 CS will make its world debut on the last weekend of
January as part of the 24-hour race at Daytona. The tradition-steeped
competition in the US state of Florida is also the venue for BMW M
Motorsport's comeback to endurance racing. The new BMW M Hybrid V8
will compete there for the first time. 47 years after the Daytona
overall victory of the legendary BMW 3.0 CSL, the new LMDh prototype
is set to race for points in the IMSA GTP class of the WeatherTech
SportsCar Championship before also competing in the official FIA World
Endurance Championship at Le Mans and elsewhere in 2024.

The final phase of the development process and the subsequent test
drives on various race tracks were among the highlights of 2022 for
the BMW M GmbH motorsport department, while the all-important success
on the race track was the overall victory in the DTM drivers' and
teams' championships. South African Sheldon van der Linde and Team
Schubert Motorsport secured the title win in the prestigious touring
car championship in the very first season with the new BMW M4 GT3.

Munich. For the third time in a row, BMW M GmbH ended
the financial year as the global market leader in the performance and
high-performance car segment. Indeed, the company posted record sales
once again in 2021. A total of 163,542 BMW M cars were delivered to
customers worldwide last year, a 13 percent increase on 2020.

This growth was spread equally between the High-Performance sports
cars and Performance cars made by BMW M GmbH, with both product
categories raising their sales figures to a new level. “This success
is the perfect start to our anniversary year,” says Franciscus van
Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “M is in a stronger position than ever as it
celebrates its 50th birthday.”

New BMW M3 and new BMW M4 enjoy immediate success.

The biggest drivers of growth among the High-Performance sports cars
were the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 models introduced in spring 2021.
Fuelled by a vehicle concept focused squarely on emotionally charged
dynamism and unprecedented diversity in the model range, the new BMW
M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 10.2 – 10.0 l/100 km [27.7 – 28.3
mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231 – 227 g/km as per
WLTP), new BMW M4 Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.1 – 9.9 l/100
km [28.0 – 28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
230 – 226 g/km as per WLTP) and new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel
consumption combined: 10.2 l/100 km [27.7 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 233 – 231 g/km as per WLTP) got off to an
extremely successful start. The latest model generation is the first
to offer customers two output levels topping out at 375 kW/510 hp, the
M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a choice of either a six-speed
manual gearbox or the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

“The response to the new generation of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 has been
simply overwhelming,” reports Timo Resch, Vice President Customer,
Brand and Sales at BMW M GmbH. “We can therefore expect demand for
these iconic sports cars to continue on an upward curve in 2022.”

Also making a powerful contribution to the latest rise in
High-Performance model sales at BMW M GmbH were the BMW X5 M
Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.6 – 13.3 l/100 km [20.8
– 21,2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 308 – 303 g/km as
per WLTP) and BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined:
13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km [21.1 – 21.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions
combined: 305 – 299 g/km as per WLTP). Following the successful market
launch of the latest model generation the previous year, the
charismatic High-Performance sports cars in the Sports Activity
Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupé segment – both powered by a 460
kW/625 hp V8 engine – increased their sales figures once again in 2021.

Alluring and in demand: the BMW M models in the BMW 4 Series range.

The dynamic excellence, agility and precision for which M is renowned
also enabled the brand’s Performance models to delight and excite a
wide range of customers over the past year. Credit for the latest
boost to sales goes above all to the M models based on the new BMW 4
Series. Particularly popular were the variants of the new BMW 4 Series
Coupé, whose line-up consists of the BMW M440i Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.1 – 7.4 l/100 km [34.8 – 38.2 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 184 – 167 g/km as per WLTP) and BMW
M440i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 8.2 – 7.5 l/100 km
[34.5 – 37.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined:
186 – 170 g/km as per WLTP) powered by a 275 kW/374 hp six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine, and the BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (fuel
consumption combined: 6.3 – 5.7 l/100 km [44.8 – 49.6 mpg imp];
CO2 emissions combined: 165 – 150 g/km as per WLTP), whose
six-cylinder in-line diesel unit produces 250 kW/340 hp.

The latest BMW X models within the ranks of M’s Performance cars also
proved extremely desirable. Indeed, the BMW X3 M40i powered by a
six-cylinder in-line engine with 265 kW/360 hp (fuel consumption
combined: 9.5 – 8.8 l/100 km [29.7 – 32.1 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 216 – 199 g/km as per WLTP) and the BMW X7 M50i
(fuel consumption combined: 12.8 – 12.3 l/100 km [22.1 – 23.0 mpg
imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 292 – 280 g/km as per WLTP)
with its 390 kW/530 hp V8 unit both posted an increase in new registrations.

Looking ahead to an anniversary year brimming with highlights.

BMW M GmbH will continue its product offensive in this anniversary
year with the addition of new High-Performance and Performance models.
Highlights include the new BMW M240i xDrive Coupé (fuel consumption
combined: 8.8 – 8.1 l/100 km [32.1 – 34.9 mpg imp]; CO2
emissions combined: 200 – 185 g/km as per WLTP) and the arrival later
in the year of the first BMW M3 Touring and an exclusive
special-edition model based on the new BMW M4 Coupé.

In addition, the BMW Group subsidiary – which was founded as BMW
Motorsport GmbH in May 1972 and enjoys the status of an independent
manufacturer – will also drive the transformation to electric
mobility. Following in the tyre tracks of the BMW i4 M50 (electric
power consumption combined: 22.5 – 18.0 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) in the first half of 2022
will be the likewise fully electric BMW iX M60 (projected electric
power consumption combined: 24.7 – 21.7 kWh/100 km as per WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km).

The most powerful BMW M model ever made points the way to the
future of the brand.

The anniversary year will be crowned by the start of production of
the BMW XM. The most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series
production is also the brand’s first High-Performance model to employ
a plug-in hybrid drive system. Its newly developed M Hybrid technology
brings together a V8 engine and a high-performance electric motor to
develop maximum output of 550 kW/750 hp and peak torque of 1,000 Nm
(737 lb-ft). The design of the BMW XM majors on presence and extrovert
appeal and in so doing sends out a clear statement in the luxury segment.

“Our first standalone model since the legendary BMW M1 represents a
complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says van
Meel. “The BMW XM blends expressive design and progressive interior
luxury with an incomparable driving experience that serves up both
sublime performance and the ability to glide along in near silence in
all-electric mode. In so doing, it provides an inimitable expression
of poise and assurance, and at the same time points the way to the
future of our brand.”

Press Contact: Marc Belcourt
Tel: +1-905-428-5078
E-mail: marc.belcourt@bmwgroup.ca

Press Release,Sales & Finance,M4,M3,BMW i,G26,i4 M50,G07,X7,G80,X3,X5 M,X6 M,4 Series,G01,F97,iX,X3 M,F95,F96,i20,M240,Product,BMW,BMW M

Munich. With yet another new sales record, the BMW M
GmbH continued to grow also in the 2020 fiscal year. Despite the
effects of the Corona pandemic on the market, it was possible to
increase the number of BMW M automobiles sold by 6 percent to
144,218 units. Thanks to this result, the subsidiary company of the
BMW Group with the status of an independent company has significantly
strengthened its market leadership within the competitive environment
first gained in 2019. “The fact that we were able to conclude this
exceptionally challenging year with yet a further record is great
validation of our consistent growth strategy,” says Markus Flasch,
chairman of the board of the BMW M GmbH. “We can be particularly proud
of the fact that we were able not only to defend our market dominance
as the most successful provider of performance and high-performances
automobiles, but also to have even expanded it.”

The further increase in sales figures was due, inter alia, to the
successful market launch of the models BMW X5 M (combined fuel
consumption: 13.1 – 12.6 l/100 km according to WLTP, 13.0 – 12.8 l/100
km according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 298 – 287
g/km according to WLTP, 296 – 287 g/km according to NEDC) and BMW X6 M
(combined fuel consumption: 13.4 – 13.1 l/100 km according to WLTP,
13.1 l/100 km according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions:
305 – 300 g/km according to WLTP, 301 g/km according to NEDC). With V8
power units delivering up to 460 kW/625 hp, BMW M automobiles from the
Sports Activity Vehicle and Sports Activity Coupe segment offer a
particularly characteristic high-performance experience. Likewise, the
special edition model BMW M2 CS (combined fuel consumption:
10.1 – 9.2 l/100 km according to WLTP, 10.4 – 9.4 l/100 km according
to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 229 – 210 g/km according
to WLTP, 238 – 214 g/km according to NEDC), which serves as the basis
for a new competition vehicle from BMW Motorsport, has also received a
positive response. In the high-performance model sector alone, it was
possible to increase the number of worldwide deliveries by 4 percent
vs. the year 2019.

Moreover, it was predominantly the performance automobiles developed
for the new BMW 3 Series and the new BMW 4 Series that helped boost
the sales of the BMW M GmbH so decisively. With powerful straight
six-cylinder petrol and diesel power plants, specific suspension
tuning and stand-alone design features, the top-of-the-range offer for
the BMW 3 Series Sedan, the BMW 3 Series Touring and the BMW 4 Series
Coupe also guarantees that characteristic M experience in the premium
mid-range segment, coupled with unrestricted suitability for everyday
use and long distances.

Growing demand in all relevant markets.

Technology transferred from motor racing, precisely coordinated
features in the areas of drive systems, suspension, aerodynamics,
interior design and operation as well as the resulting authentic
character of BMW M automobiles, create a fascination, which continued
in 2020 to captivate an increasing number of performance-oriented
customers throughout the world. For example, in the USA, the most
important market for BMW M automobiles, as well as in China, new
records were achieved. In both Russia and Korea, it was possible to
increase sales by more than 60 percent, and in Italy by 47 percent.
And in the UK, too, the number of vehicles delivered exceeded our
expectations. “We notice a steadily growing demand in all relevant
markets for BMW M automobiles,” explains Thomas Felbermair, head of
Sales and Marketing at BMW M GmbH. “Because of this and thanks to the
engagement of our strong dealer network, we have been outstandingly
successful in coping with the challenges posed by the pandemic.”

Ready to go: BMW M5 CS, BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe.

Looking towards the future, the initial focus shifts to the world
premiere of the BMW M5 CS, which will take place in January 2021. A
special edition of the BMW M5 will then be available for the first
time – with outstanding performance and exclusive motorsport
characteristics. Following that, the main focus will be on the market
launch of the new BMW M3 Sedan starting in March 2021 (combined fuel
consumption: 10.6 – 10.3 l/100 km according to WLTP, 10.8 l/100 km
according to NEDC; combined CO2 emissions: 241 – 236 g/km
according to WLTP, 248 g/km according to NEDC) and the new
BMW M4 Coupe (combined fuel consumption: 10.5 – 10.3 l/100 km
according to WLTP, 10.8 l/100 km according to NEDC; combined
CO2 emissions: 240 – 235 g/km according to WLTP, 248 g/km
according to NEDC). The two high-performance automobiles represent the
essence of that unmistakable M feeling. Immediately after their world
premiere, the new model generation aroused keen interest around the globe.

In future, the wishes of the M Community will be fulfilled by
extraordinary diversity: Each variant with classic manual shift will
be complemented by a Competition model featuring an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. Moreover, in the summer of
2021, the four-wheel drive system M xDrive will be added for the first
time to the drive portfolio for the BMW M3 and the BMW M4. And the
BMW M4 Convertible will also be launched in time for the warm season.
On the other hand, the first BMW M3 Touring is still undergoing the
series development process.

A glance into the future: continued growth, new M feeling
through electrification, and an anniversary.

“It is remarkable that it was possible to achieve the new sales
record even before the launch of our most important models,” says
Markus Flasch. “The new BMW M3 and BMW M4 generation offers us the
promise of dynamic growth in 2021 as well.” Moreover, he now also
looks forward to presenting a completely new manifestation of the
distinctive M feeling. Electrification will provide the basis for
this. During the year 2021, the BMW M GmbH will be presenting an
electrically powered performance automobile for the first time.

With this setting of agenda with which the “Power of Choice” strategy
has been realised within the model range of the BMW M GmbH, and an
exceptionally strong product range, the company is heading full of
optimism for the forthcoming anniversary year. 2022 will be the year
in which the BMW M GmbH celebrates 50 years of its existence. Markus
Flasch has already announced “a year full of surprises”: “If I mention
the keyword special edition models, it should be clear what our
customers can look forward to during the anniversary year.”

Press Contact: Marc Belcourt
Tel: +1-905-428-5078
E-mail: marc.belcourt@bmwgroup.ca

Press Release,Sales & Finance,Coupé,M4,M2,M3,G80,X5 M,X6 M,Gran Coupé,F82,F87,F93,M8,F95,F96,Product,BMW M

Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.0 – 12.8 l/100 km [21.7 –
22.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 296 – 291 g/km) and
new BMW X6 M Competition (fuel consumption combined: 13.1 l/100 km
[21.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 301 g/km) to carve
out a unique place for themselves on the world’s roads. Their
performance attributes set new standards and now they are also raising
the bar once again in terms of exclusivity. First Edition
specification accentuates the effervescent and distinctive character
of the BMW M models in the luxury Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and
Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) segments to particularly stylish effect.

Precisely coordinated design cues for the exterior and interior lend
the special-edition takes on the new BMW X5 M Competition and new
BMW X6 M Competition the status of intoxicating rarities at the
high-performance reaches of their respective segments. Their air of
exclusivity creates the ideal environment in which to enjoy the
unmistakable driving experience laid on by a high-revving V8 engine
with two turbochargers and 617 hp, M-specific suspension and M xDrive
all-wheel drive. The two special-edition newcomers will be produced at
BMW Plant Spartanburg in the US in a limited run of 250 examples each.

The BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver special paint finish available
exclusively for the special-edition models showcases the exterior
design of the new BMW X5 M Competition and new BMW X6 M Competition to
extremely impressive effect. This matte paint finish ensures the
muscular proportions, clear forms and signature M details of the body
design come authentically to the fore, regardless of how the light
hits the car. The two special-edition cars can also be specified with
the BMW Individual Frozen Marina Bay Blue special paint finish. This
exterior shade is one of the BMW special finishes now available
ex-factory for the MW X5 M Competition, BMW X6 M Competition, BMW X5,
BMW X6 and BMW X7. These special paint shades are increasing in number
all the time.

The high-quality paint finishes team up with M light-alloy wheels in
star-spoke design with a Jet Black, high-gloss finish available
exclusively for the special-edition models. The wheels (front:
21-inch, rear: 22-inch) are fitted with mixed-size tires. The exterior
styling also includes selected body elements made from
carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Like the M Carbon exterior
mirror caps for the two special-edition models, the M Carbon rear
spoiler for the new BMW X6 M Competition has an understated feeling of
the race track. An M Carbon engine compartment cover is likewise part
of First Edition specification.

BMW Individual Merino full leather trim in exclusive bi-colour
Silverstone/Midnight Blue ensures the interior and BMW Individual
paint finishes fit together neatly. Black Alcantara inserts in the
seat bolsters and contrast stitching in Sakhir Orange emphasize the
sporting contours of the M multifunction seats. The eye-catching
contrast stitching also bring distinctive flourishes to the door panel
trim and instrument panel. Taking its cue from the leather-covered
instrument panel, the BMW Individual headliner in Alcantara is
likewise in Midnight Blue. The use of carbon fibre continues on the
interior of the vehicle with carbon fibre trim adorning the dashboard,
centre console and door panels.

Richmond Hill, ON. BMW is pleased to introduce the
new, 3rd generation of the

M GmbH brand’s exclusive, track-capable X5 and X6 based vehicles, the
X5 M Sports Activity Vehicle and X6 M Sports Activity Coupé. The
newest M SAV and SAC vehicles offer more power and performance,
improved luxury and comfort over the vehicles that they are replacing
while also featuring the latest in driver assistance, personal
connectivity and infotainment.

Since the introduction of the M1 in 1978, the engineers at BMW M have
been driven by a single-minded passion for combining authentic
motorsport functionality with everyday usability. Each M car must
fulfill the highest customer expectations, not only for agility,
dynamics and power but also the expression of individuality.

M Power and Performance

Power in the new X5 M and X6 M comes from the high-revving,
twin-turbocharged S63 V8 engine generating 600 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 553
lb-ft @ 1,800 – 5,690 rpm. This is an increase of 33 hp and 1,090 rpm
wider full torque range than the outgoing 2nd generation
models. The Competition models produce an increased 617 hp and 553
lb-ft @ 1,800 – 5,860 rpm. Working with the M Steptronic eight-speed
automatic transmission with Drivelogic, the M xDrive all-wheel drive
system with Active M differential, the power and traction allows the
X5 M and X6 M to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds
(3.8 seconds for the Competition models). Top speed is electronically
limited to 250 km/h, which increases to 285 km/h with the optional M
Driver’s Package which also includes a voucher for driver training at
BMW’s Performance Center East (in Greer, SC) or West (in Thermal, CA)
Driving Schools.

The BMW S63 TwinPower turbocharged eight-cylinder engine features
indirect, highly-efficient liquid-to-air intercooling, a cross-bank
exhaust manifold to improve gas-flow out of the cylinders and into the
turbochargers, direct injection operating at 5,076 psi and VALVETRONIC
variable-valve timing. The block is of a closed-deck design with
sleeveless cylinder walls and a forged crankshaft.

A dual-branch exhaust system, designed specifically for the X5 M and
X6 M offers an enticing sound emanating from its pair of 100 mm
tailpipes via electrically controlled flaps. The exhaust note can be
softened or increased via the M Sound Control button in the center
console. The Competition models’ note is further enhanced with a
standard M Sport Exhausts system which provides for a more sporting
sound to match the models’ increased capabilities.

The cooling system in the new X5 M, X6 M and Competition models is
designed to handle whatever demands may be placed upon the vehicle by
the driver or environment, including track driving. A central front
radiator is joined by a secondary cooler in the front, passenger-side
wheel opening. Liquid cooling is available for the engine oil,
transmission oil and turbochargers. A secondary oil sump is installed
for when lateral or longitudinal forces place extra demands on the
engine oil supply.

The engine mounts are of a stiffer design and help improve both
engine response and the transfer of power through the transmission and
M xDrive system while also providing sharper turn in from the chassis.

M Steptronic Automatic Transmission with Drivelogic

The eight-speed M Steptronic transmission offers both automatic and
manual shift modes with three selectable levels of programming
controlling shift speed and sharpness. M shift paddles allow for quick
manual shifting without removing your hands from the wheel.

Intelligent connectivity enables the M Steptronic to adapt its shift
strategy according to the route and driving situation by working with
the standard Navigation System and if equipped, combining this data
with information from the Active Cruise Control system’s radar sensor.
This makes it possible for the transmission to shift proactively
instead of reactively insuring that the X5 M and X6 M are always in
the correct gear for the upcoming road conditions.

M xDrive all-wheel drive with Active M Differential

The M xDrive system has been tuned to handle the full transfer of 553
lb-ft of torque from a low 1,800 rpm and to work with the chassis to
provide the X5 M and X6 M with class-leading traction and handling
capabilities in dry and slippery street conditions as well as during
the increased demands of track driving.

An electronically controlled multi-plate clutch quickly, precisely
and smoothly transfers the power between the front and rear axles
while the Active M Differential further divides the power between the
two rear wheels as conditions dictate.

The rear-bias of the M xDrive system normally only sends power to the
rear wheels to produce the kind of handling characteristics for which
M cars are known for. Only when additional traction is required is
power directed to the front axle.

The M xDrive and Active M Differential are linked with the DSC
(Dynamic Stability Control) which only is tuned to intervene only in
extreme situations.

Drivers can also select from several all-wheel drive modes to tailor
their experience to their liking. The default 4WD setting offers,
excellent handling with maximum traction while the 4WD Sport setting
brings an increased proportion of torque transfer to the rear wheels
for a substantial increase in vehicle agility during spirited driving.

Chassis and Suspension

The chassis and suspension components and settings were painstakingly
tested and refined in places such as Mirimas in the south of France,
Arjeplog in the north of Sweden and the Nurbuergring’s Nordschleife in
Germany to produce the very best combination of every-day, year-round
usability and genuine track capable levels of performance.

Agility is the cornerstone of the new X5 M and X6 M vehicles’
wide-ranging capabilities and is imparted by carefully tuned
suspension components, extra chassis bracing, stiff engine and
suspension mounting points and increased front camber. The front
suspension features a double-wishbone setup with forged upper control
arms while the rear suspension is a five-link design.

Each of the four models, X5 M, X6 M, X5 M Competition and X6 M
Competition, features bespoke suspension tuning unique to only that
model. Further attention to detail can be seen, under the hood, in the
form of a special bracing package connecting the front bulkhead with
the strut towers, enhancing both visuals and structural rigidity.

The Adaptive M suspension with Active Roll Stabilization is standard
on all four new M models and has been engineered top provide excellent
handling and comfort in varied conditions, from comfort to very sporty
driving. Data from body movement, road surface conditions and steering
movements is collected from sensors and is used to actively adjust the
damper and stabilization bar settings in milliseconds. The driver can
select, with a press of a button, from several chassis settings
including COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT PLUS.

M Servotronic Steering

The M Servotronic speed-sensitive, variable ratio steering is tuned
to give just the right amount of feedback and excellent directional
accuracy. The ratio adjusts to changes in steering angle, ensuring
that turn in response is quick while straight-line directional
stability is excellent and low speed maneuvering such as in and out of
parking spots is enhanced. There are two selectable settings for
steering response and feedback, one comfort-oriented and one sport-oriented.

M Compound Brakes, Wheels and Tires

The new BMW X5 M and X6 M models feature BMW M’s latest integrated
braking system with all featured controlled by a single compact
module. An electric actuator builds up both brake pressure and
maintains an even brake pedal feel, irrespective of road conditions.
The M version of the integrated braking system allows for two pedal
feel settings; Comfort and Sport to offer the driver the opportunity
to select the level of response and feel to match their driving style
and conditions.

The M compound brakes feature large drilled and vented 395 mm front
discs with fixed six-piston calipers and 380 mm rear discs with
single-piston floating calipers.

The new X5 M and X6 M vehicles come standard with a staggered 21-inch
front and 22-inch rear wheel/tire combination, featuring M Star-Spoke
bi-colour wheels, style 809M. Non run-flat performance tires sized
295/35ZR21 front and 315/30ZR22 rear complete this setup.

Standard and exclusive to Competition models is a staggered 21-inch
front and 22-inch rear wheel/tire combination featuring M Star-Spoke
bi-color wheels, style 818M. Accompanying thi wheel are non run-flat
performance tires sized 295/35ZR21 front and 315/30ZR22 rear.

Also available for X5 M, X6 M and Competition models are 21-inch M
light-alloy Double-Spoke bi-color Style 808M wheels with 295/35ZR21
front and 315/35ZR21 rear non run-flat performance tires.

Exterior Design

The new X5 M, X6 M and Competition models are immediately
recognizable by the large front bumper air intake openings to feed
additional air to the coolers. M specific BMW kidney grilles with
black double-bars, M gills on the front fenders, aerodynamic side
mirrors, flared wheel arches in body color and rear diffuser with
integrated quad exhaust are some of the other features unique to M
models. On the Competition models, the kidney grille surrounds,
exterior mirror caps, model badging, rear diffuser trim and exhaust
tailpipes are finished in Black.

The X5 M and X5 M Competition feature a rear roof spoiler while the
X6 M and X6 M Competition feature both a roof and lower tailgate
spoiler as part of their aerodynamic enhancements.

Displays and Infotainment

The BMW X5 M and X6 M models are equipped with BMW Live Cockpit
Professional running the latest iDrive 7 operating system as standard.
This comprehensive suite of integrated connectivity, control and
display systems offers the driver and passengers a superb all-round
package for interacting with their new X5 M and X6 M vehicle. The
latest-generation of the iDrive is composed of a high-resolution
digital 12.3” instrument cluster display behind the steering wheel and
a 12.3” center display. The system offers many hardware upgrades from
iDrive 6, including new haptic controls for the iDrive controller, an
advanced tablet-like touch interface, stunning visualizations, and the
largest displays in BMW’s vehicle lineup.

This latest system blends the strengths of previous iDrive concepts
with the modern ways in which people expect to interface with their
popular electronic devices. The multi-modal approach of the iDrive
touch controller, large touchscreen center display, cloud based voice
control, and gesture control allow users to interact in the way of
their choosing.

The seventh generation of iDrive, which runs the latest BMW Operating
System, has a cutting-edge, fully digital design and is geared to the
driver’s needs by allowing him or her to customize the system to his
or her own preference with customizable widgets of information. This
new level of personalization is then stored in the BMW Cloud and can
follow the customer to other BMW vehicles. Information from categories
such as driving, entertainment, navigation, connectivity, and the
vehicle info itself, can be selected in nearly any combination in any
of four layouts on the Center Display. Multiple pages can be created
and easily accessed with a simple swipe across the screen with your finger.

To maximize the capabilities of the large 12.3” digital instrument
cluster, the traditional gauges have been finessed into an all-new
design pushing the speedometer and tachometer gauges to the outer
edges of the display as geometric bands. This new design opens space
in the middle for routing and navigation. Information from the center
display can also be shown within the tachometer. Additionally, your
driving mode will determine your visual display style.

Other elements of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional are the
Navigation Professional system, two USB-C ports, plus Bluetooth
interfaces. The driver can be automatically detected and personal
settings activated either using the traditional vehicle key or by
downloading the driver’s personal settings the BMW Cloud.

Drivers can enjoy the full benefits of the car’s intelligent
connectivity capabilities through vehicle apps such as news, weather,
office and online search. Other capabilities include Intelligent
Emergency Call – which automatically summons swift assistance in an
emergency – and regular updates for the navigation system’s maps.

The latest generation of the BMW Head-Up display system, standard in
the X5 M and X6 M, features a larger projection area, optimized
graphics and additional content. The BMW Head-Up Display projects
information directly into the driver’s field of vision where it can be
viewed without any need for them to divert their eyes from the road.
This includes details of vehicle speed, speed limits, Check Control
messages, status indicators and warnings from the assistance systems,
detailed route guidance and turn instructions, as well as telephone
and entertainment lists.

Driver Assistance Systems

The 2020 BMW X5 M and X6 M vehicles are available with a wide variety
of standard and optional driver assistance systems. The systems really
come into their own when driving longer distances by relieving the
strain on the driver in monotonous situations, such as traffic jams or
slow-moving traffic. They enhance comfort and safety both in urban
traffic and on longer trips by providing targeted assistance in
complex traffic situations. The driver assistance systems process
camera images as well as the data gathered by ultrasonic and radar
sensors to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, to warn of potential
hazards and to minimise the risk of an accident with corrective
braking or steering inputs.

The standard Active Driving Assistant on the new BMW X5 M and X6 M
includes Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Collision
Warning, Frontal Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City
Collision Mitigation (which now also alerts the driver if cyclists are
detected) Cross Traffic Alert Rear, and Speed Limit Information.

The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package offers
comprehensive assistance for comfortable and safe driving. This
package includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. It
can be used at speeds up to 210 km/h and maintains the desired speed
while taking not only the traffic situation into account, but also the
selected distance to vehicles in front. If required, the system is
able to brake the car to a stop then pull away again automatically
after being stationary for up to 30 seconds, meaning greater comfort
in stop-start traffic. Camera images and data from a front radar
system are used for distance control.

Another component of the Driving Assistance Professional Package is
the Lane Keeping Assistant with Active Side Collision Protection. This
system is designed to help the driver guide the vehicle back onto the
correct path with an active turn of the steering wheel. Besides
emitting visual warning signals and causing the steering wheel to
vibrate, active side collision protection also uses active steering
intervention to help avoid a collision. Moreover, this package
includes Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for limited access highways,
which allows for even more relaxed driving at speeds lower than 60
km/h during highly congested highway traffic situations. The Driving
Assistance Professional Package includes Evasion Aid, which now also
reacts to pedestrians and Front Cross Traffic Alert – which reduces
the danger of a collision when manoeuvring forwards towards roads that
are obstructed from the driver’s view.

Back-Up Assistant, part of the optional Parking Assistance Plus,
offers an unmatched level of assistance when leaving a parking space
or maneuvering in a confined area. The Back-Up Assistant takes over
steering to maneuver the vehicle mirroring the path most recently used
in the forward direction. This system makes reversing for a distance
of up to 50 metres, an effortless task in your new X5 M or X6 M. All
the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brakes and monitor
the surrounding area. The system is initiated by pressing a button
when the vehicle is stationary and the gear selector is in the “P”
position. The steering movements made during the vehicle’s last
forward maneuver are stored by the system and retained. This means the
Back-Up Assistant can be used to maneuver the new BMW X5 M or X6 M
backwards out of a parking position that it drove into forwards the
previous day.

The driver enjoys ideal all-round visibility, thanks to both the
standard rear-view camera and the optional Top View, Panorama View and
3D View which are part of Parking Assistant Plus, which create a
360-degree image of the vehicle and its surroundings in the Center
Display. In addition, drivers can use the Remote 3D View feature, part
of the BMW ConnectedDrive App, to access a three-dimensional live
image of their vehicle and surroundings on a smartphone no matter
where they are at that moment.

BMW Connected: digital services for individual mobility.

BMW Connected is the companion app for BMW drivers. Intelligent
connectivity helps users to reach their destination easily and with
minimal stress – and not only from within their car; BMW Connected is
an all-embracing concept designed to seamlessly connect the driver and
their smartphone with their vehicle.

At the heart of it all is the Open Mobility Cloud, which allows the
app to connect the car with the customer’s iPhone and Apple Watch. For
instance, the BMW Connected app can import appointments and addresses
from the customer’s calendar entries straight into the navigation
system to begin route guidance. The system calculates the optimum
departure time based on real-time traffic information and notifies the
driver with a message on their smartphone when it is time to leave. As
the vehicle is linked up via the Open Mobility Cloud, it is able to
access the calculated route directly when the navigation system starts up.

Press Contact: Marc Belcourt
Tel: +1-905-428-5078
E-mail: marc.belcourt@bmwgroup.ca

Press Release,X5 M,X6 M,F95,F96,Product,BMW M

Richmond Hill, ON. Black is powerful, black is
exciting, and black is exclusive: the same can be said of the new
Black Fire Edition of the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M (combined fuel
consumption: 11.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 258 g/km*). The
two special editions see BMW emphatically continue its success story
in the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) sectors.

From August 2017, both cars will be available in a variant that
visualises all the strengths of the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M. The Black
Fire Edition combines exciting exterior and interior design with
high-class, exclusive furnishing details. The special edition pairs
all this with the impressive driving dynamics and power delivery of
the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M models.

Impressive design.

No matter what terrain the BMW X5 M Edition Black Fire and the BMW X6
M Edition Black Fire find themselves on, these special models cut a
fine figure on any route. The rich shade of black in the Sapphire
Black Metallic paintjob alone catches the eye. The same and more can
be said of the black M double kidney with black bars. It is a unique
feature of the Black Fire Edition.

This also applies to the forged 21-inch M alloy wheels in black.
These large wheels with mixed-sized tyres (front: 10 J x 21, rear:
11.5 J x 21) are weight-optimised and instrumental in transferring the
power generated by the M TwinPower Turbo Technology to the road.
Another distinguishing feature of the Black Fire Edition are the
standard carbon mirror caps. They accentuate the lightweight design of
both models and show the close relationship between both the BMW X5 M
and BMW X6 M and motorsport.

Motorsport feel on the inside.

Great emphasis is also placed on premium quality and exclusivity
inside the BMW X5 M Edition Black Fire and BMW X6 M Edition Black
Fire. Fully-electric M multifunctional seats with integrated headrests
come as standard in full fine-grain Merino leather, in contrasting
Black and Mugello Red. The fine tone is underlined by the contrasting
red seams on the full leather upholstery, which also includes the
central console. The feel and colour of the BMW Individual headliner
in anthracite, another feature of this special edition, makes it the
perfect complement to the premium full leather upholstery. The
interior trim shines in piano finish black. The logo of the X5 M or X6
M Edition Black Fire, which adorns the right side of the interior trim
on the passenger side of the car, also shows that there is something
special about the car.

Power on the streets.

Both models generate a top performance of 423 kW/575 hp (both:
combined fuel consumption: 11.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 258
g/km*) from the 4.4-litre V8 engine. Both cars do 0 to 100 km/h in
just 4.2 seconds with the standard 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox. The
maximum torque of 750 Nm produces impressive drive in the rpm range
between 2,200 und 5,000 min-1. The xDrive four-wheel drive
system has been set up with a rear-wheel bias, which improves the
agility of the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M. The Dynamic Performance Control
system seamlessly distributes the drive torque between the rear wheels.

In combination with the outstanding deceleration values of the M
compound brakes, which boast excellent deceleration values, precise
dosage, light weight and increased thermal stability, everything is in
place to allow an agile and dynamic driving style. The unmistakable
sound of the M TwinPower turbo engine makes the impressive performance
of both models audible, thus providing an extremely emotional driving
experience. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also allows every
driver to adapt the sportiness of their BMW X5 M or BMW X6 M to any
situation and to suit their individual preferences, at the push of a
button. In “DSC on” mode, the brake interventions work to prevent
understeer and oversteer. “MDM” allows greater wheel slip, meaning
ambitious drivers are able to perform small drifts. Deactivating DSC
(“DSC off”) makes it possible to explore the limits on the racetrack,
and to use the accelerator pedal to get the car drifting.

The new special editions will be available starting in September 2017.

boasts an excellent position in the all-wheel-drive market, a segment
it first entered 30 years ago. Around one in three BMW cars sold
around the world is now equipped with the intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s success in this segment has been driven
not only by the ever-popular BMW X models but also by all-wheel-drive
models based on the other model series, from the BMW 1 Series to the
BMW 7 Series. Across these model series, a large choice of AWD models
is offered in a wide range of engine versions. At the same time, BMW
continues to refine this technology and take it in new directions. By
offering BMW xDrive in combination with a hybrid drive and with a
front-wheel-drive platform, the company has repeatedly demonstrated
its proficiency in the all-wheel-drive field, proficiency that will
secure BMW’s position at the forefront of this sector well into the
future. Today, BMW offers more than 110 models – of either
transmission type – with BMW xDrive in 12 different model series, as
well as the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car and the compact BMW 225xe
with electrified all-wheel drive.

The focus from day one: traction and dynamics.

BMW’s first foray into the all-wheel-drive market came
with the unveiling of the BMW 325i “Allrad” at the Frankfurt Motor
Show (IAA) in 1985. From the outside, the newcomer didn’t immediately
reveal its inner qualities, so its performance when the journalists
took it out on the test track was even more of an eye-opener. This
very first BMW all-wheel-drive system not only improved traction away
from surfaced roads and in adverse weather conditions, but also made
for more dynamic handling through corners. “The new BMW is the new
champion when it comes to handling,” was the verdict of the testers
from German car magazine Auto Zeitung not long after the first unveiling.

Today, the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system takes
typical BMW driving dynamics to new levels. The current generation of
this system is controlled by the Integrated Chassis Management (ICM)
system, which ensures that xDrive always responds appropriately at the
earliest possible moment, based on reliable sensing and monitoring of
the current driving situation. The interventions may be performed
either entirely by BMW xDrive, or by xDrive in combination with
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Performance Control (DPC).
The resulting fast and precise control of drive power distribution
ensures typical BMW handling characteristics even under extremely
dynamic cornering.

The all-wheel-drive system is biased towards the typical BMW
rear-wheel-drive characteristics. That is to say, on the
all-wheel-drive models a greater share of the drive power is sent to
the rear wheels, even under normal driving conditions. This maintains
the typical BMW precise steering response, with virtually no torque
steer. For crisp turn-in and high tracking stability, the
latest-generation BMW xDrive system starts increasing the amount of
power sent to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a corner,
further enhancing the driving pleasure for which BMW is a byword.

BMW all-wheel-drive technology: continuous evolution since 1985.
The full-time all-wheel-drive system featured on the BMW 325i
“Allrad” of 1985 split the drive power in a ratio of 37 to 63 per cent
between the front and rear wheels. In response to wheel speed
differences, visco locks in the transfer case and rear differential
were capable of providing a virtually rigid connection between the
front and rear wheels, in order to improve traction and stability.
This model’s name was soon changed to BMW 325iX, and from 1988 it was
offered in a “touring” version as well (lower-case spelling up to and
including the E46 series).

1991: BMW 525iX.
Three years on, BMW introduced an all-wheel-drive model in the
BMW 5 Series too. For the first time, the power split was now
electronically controlled. The newly developed system featured
multi-plate clutches that allowed the default 36:64 front-to-rear
power split to be varied seamlessly and automatically in line with
driving conditions. Initially a hydraulically controlled multi-plate
clutch was used at the rear axle, but this was later replaced by
electronically controlled selective braking intervention. The system
monitored the driving situation using wheel speed signals from the
Anti-lock Braking System, supplemented by further information about
brake status, engine speed and throttle valve position.

From the outset the all-wheel-drive system of the BMW 525iX was a
class apart. The electronic control system delivered a very fast and
precise response, resulting in safe, neutral handling characteristics
even in difficult driving conditions, such as on wet roads or snow. In
the BMW 5 Series, too, the first all-wheel-drive models were offered
in both Sedan and touring versions.

1999: The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) opens a new chapter.
In the run-up to the new millennium, a highly innovative vehicle
concept from BMW made its sensational debut. The BMW X5, the first
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), impressed customers with driving
dynamics that were unmatched among other all-terrain vehicles of the
time. The outstanding all-wheel-drive system played a big part in
this. A planetary gear system split the drive power in a ratio of
38:62 per cent between the front and rear wheels, while electronic
control systems such as DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ADB-X
(Automatic Differential Brake) and HDC (Hill Descent Control) ensured
the new BMW X5 was both sporty on the road and equipped to handle
challenging conditions off the beaten track.

In the years following the successful launch of the SAV concept,
there was no let-up in the fast pace of all-wheel-drive development at
BMW. The next year, 2000, a model-specific version of the BMW X5’s
all-wheel drive technology became available for the fourth generation
of the BMW 3 Series.

2003: BMW xDrive makes its debut in the BMW X3 and BMW X5.
Four years on from the debut of the BMW X5 in 1999, BMW kept up
the momentum by launching the SAV concept in a further vehicle
segment. The new BMW X3 was more compact than the BMW X5 and offered
even more agile handling. It set new benchmarks and remained the only
premium model in its class for years to come.

The newly developed BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which was
introduced in the same year in both the BMW X3 and the BMW X5, soon
extended BMW’s lead in the AWD segment. Based on an extremely
fast-acting electronic multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, xDrive
worked in tandem with the Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) to
continuously adapt the drive power split to the current driving
situation. In addition to wheel speed, for the first time the
electronic control system also took into account Dynamic Stability
Control data, for example about steering angle, accelerator position
and lateral acceleration. This is what makes BMW xDrive the world’s
first, and still only, “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system. Unlike
conventional all-wheel-drive systems, which only react when at least
one wheel is already spinning, xDrive is able to detect a risk of
oversteer or understeer at the very first signs, and proactively
corrects this by redirecting the flow of drive power.

In the years that followed, the BMW xDrive intelligent
all-wheel-drive system was fitted not only on the X models but also on
the xDrive versions of the BMW 3 and 5 Series Sedan and Touring
models. By the time the second generation of the BMW X3 was introduced
in 2010, more than 600,000 units of this series had already been sold
worldwide. A little earlier, sales of the BMW X5 – which entered its
second generation in 2006 – had topped the one million mark.

2008: SAC with Dynamic Performance Control and hybrid
drive.
With the two Sports Activity Vehicles now firmly
established in their respective segments, in 2007 BMW went on to
present the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe. Unveiled at the
Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the brand-new BMW X6 elevated the typical
dynamic character of the BMW X models to a new level of intensity. For
the first time, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system was combined
with Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which varies the drive power
split between the rear wheels when cornering to ensure unrivalled
agility and stability, even under sudden throttle changes or on
overrun. In 2009, the BMW Active Hybrid X6 demonstrated a further
perfect pairing – between BMW xDrive and hybrid propulsion. Meanwhile,
in the same year, BMW M GmbH added two very special models to its
range of high-performance sports cars. With an M-tuned BMW xDrive
system, including Dynamic Performance Control, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6
M boasted performance that was previously unknown in the
all-wheel-drive market.

2009 also saw the arrival of a new X model, the BMW X1. For many
years to come, the BMW X1 was destined to remain the only vehicle of
its kind in the premium compact segment. Its intelligent BMW xDrive
all-wheel-drive system, like that of the new BMW X3 (2010), was also
combinable with Performance Control. This system selectively brakes
the wheel on the inside of a turn while simultaneously increasing
engine power, resulting in quick and precise turn-in to corners and
taking the agile handling of both models to new levels.

BMW xDrive also available for other model series.
The steady advance of the BMW X models has been accompanied by
an increase in the number of xDrive versions offered in the other BMW
model series too. Designed to improve cornering agility and precision,
BMW xDrive provides an enhanced driving experience and an optimal
combination of dynamics and comfort. So it was only a matter of time
before this intelligent drive technology made its debut in the BMW 7
Series as well, in 2009. In spring 2012, the first all-wheel-drive
Coupe and Convertible models were then offered in the sporty BMW 6
Series. BMW xDrive can also be specified on the current BMW 3 and 5
Series and, since 2013, on the Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe
models of the new BMW 4 Series.

Driving progress ever forward.
BMW took things forward in the premium mid-sized segment with
the launch of the BMW X4 in 2014. The new Sports Activity Coupe offers
a unique blend of driving enjoyment, sophisticated style and
contemporary practicality. It comes with BMW xDrive as standard and is
available in a wide range of engine versions. In the same year, BMW
also presented the third generation of the BMW X5, the second
generation of the BMW X6, and M Sport versions of both models. BMW
xDrive also made its debut in the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This
was a debut with a difference, being the first time BMW had combined
its intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an all-new
front-wheel-drive format.

With the BMW i8, unveiled in 2014, the BMW Group took a bold new step
in new directions – which also extended to the all-wheel-drive system.
This 2+2-seater sports model is powered by a highly advanced plug-in
hybrid drive system that pairs an internal combustion engine driving
the rear wheels with a high-performance electric motor driving the
front wheels.

Focused on the future: BMW xDrive meets BMW eDrive.
BMW’s latest all-wheel-drive models bring technology advances
that are firmly focused on the future of mobility. The BMW i8 was
followed by the international launch of the first production plug-in
hybrid model from the BMW core brand: the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Thanks to
full-time BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive and eDrive BMW EfficientDynamics
technology, this Sports Activity Vehicle mates thrilling and
effortless sporty performance with outstanding efficiency. Intelligent
hybrid power management synchronises the operation of the internal
combustion engine and the electric motor to maximise efficiency at all
times, while also responding perfectly to the driver’s demands. The
drive from the two power units is transferred to the road via the
full-time BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

BMW 7 Series: Integral Active Steering combinable with BMW xDrive.
In September 2015, the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series
makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This high-end
BMW luxury model pioneers groundbreaking innovations on all fronts,
and will be available with BMW xDrive from its market launch in
October. The new luxury sedan will also be the first model to allow
intelligent all-wheel-drive to be combined with Integral Active
Steering – that is to say with passively steering rear wheels.

Richmond Hill, ON. The new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M
see BMW M GmbH setting the pace once again in the high-performance
Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) segment.
When the previous generation of the two vehicles arrived in 2009, it
was the first time the high-performance character distilled by
BMW M GmbH had been transplanted into an all-wheel-drive BMW X model.
The result was class-leading dynamics. The new BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M
pull no punches in writing the next chapter in this success story with
another significant step forward in dynamic excellence, distinct
M design and outstanding efficiency. Both models will arrive in
Canadian showrooms in the Spring of 2015. The X5M debuts with an MSRP
of $105,900, the X6M with an MSRP of $108,200 .

The new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M combine the characteristic features
of the successful BMW X family – exclusivity, robustness, agility and
everyday usability – with the commitment to high performance that
defines an M vehicle. The latter is resoundingly highlighted by the
vehicles’ impressive performance figures. Both models complete the
sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds in conjunction with the new
eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.

Innovative engine technology.
The new M TwinPower
Turbo V8 for the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M is the most powerful engine
ever developed by BMW for an all-wheel-drive vehicle. Boasting
innovative M TwinPower Turbo technology with a pair of TwinScroll
turbochargers, cross-bank exhaust manifolds, VALVETRONIC and High
Precision Direct Injection, the 4.4-liter V8 produces maximum output
of 567 hp between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm. That represents a 3 percent
increase over the predecessor models. The step up is even clearer when
it comes to the power development of the new engine. Peak torque has
been boosted by 53 lb-ft which equates to a rise of 10 percent. Its
553 lb-ft can be enjoyed across a broad rev range between 2,200 and 5,000 rpm.

The two models accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds through
the standard eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and
deliver Canadian fuel economy figures of 12.1 L/100 km Highway and
16.6 L/100 km City.

Powerful looks and exclusive equipment.
With their
striking use of forms, the looks of the new BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M
foretell their performance potential. With their exteriors painted
fully in body color, both models cut a low-slung figure on the road,
while mixed tires showcase their sporty track width. Additional
exterior design modifications, moreover, elevate the M models even
further than before from the standard BMW X5 and BMW X6. Large air
intakes at the front end, side gills with a model badge and Air
Breathers, signature M exterior mirrors in twin-stalk style, a
typically M four-tailpipe exhaust system and a rear spoiler (for the
BMW X6 M) give them a standalone look M fans will immediately
recognize. Setting the seal on this exclusive range of features are
standard M-specific, forged 21-inch M light-alloy wheels.

The high-quality interior impresses with its well-thought-through
combination of sporty features, exclusive materials and flawless
workmanship. The M instrument cluster, M leather steering wheel with
aluminum gearshift paddles and M gearshift lever – which works in the
same way as the familiar M Double Clutch Transmission gearshift lever
– are complemented by electrically operated M multi-function seats for
the driver and front passenger, an M driver’s footrest and Head-Up
Display which, in addition to the standard information, also includes
an M-specific display with gear indicator, rev band and shift lights.

New BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M customers also have the choice between
various options exclusive to the M models, such as Merino full-leather
trim. And there’s also a choice of two new and exclusive M paint
finishes – Long Beach Blue Metallic and Donington Grey Metallic.

Press Contact: Robert Dexter
Tel: +1-905-428-5447
E-mail: robert.dexter@bmwgroup.ca

Press Release,BMW M,X5 M,X6 M,Product

<pp:caseid>782942</pp:caseid><pp:summary>X5M and X6M the first Sport Activity Vehicles to join the BMW M family</pp:summary>

Whitby – BMW Canada is pleased to announce pricing for the highly anticipated BMW X5 M and X6 M. The first BMW Sport Activity Vehicles to be produced with the M badge will arrive in Canadian showrooms in late 2009. The 2010 X5 M will debut with an MSRP of $97,900 and the 2010 X6 M with an MSRP of $99,900.

The new SAV members of the BMW M family set new standards of acceleration, lateral grip, steering response, balance and stopping power in their respective segments. The X5M and X6M are powered by a newly-developed 4.4-litre V8 M engine delivering 555 hp at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1,500 to 5,650 rpm, enabling both models to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. This new M engine is the world’s first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo technology.

M-specific xDrive on the X5M and X6M, along with Dynamic Performance Control, Dynamic Stability Control with M Dynamic Mode, Adaptive Drive and newly-developed M-specific Servotronic power steering ensures the ultra-high performance levels of roadholding and agility consistent with the M family .

Braking capacity will naturally be in keeping with the high-performance characteristics of the X5M and X6M, with giant four-piston fixed calipers at the front, floating calipers at the rear and massive, internally-vented lightweight brake discs measuring 395 mm in diameter in the front and 385 mm in the rear.

This combination of features coalesces in the X5M and X6M to push the limits of what was previously thought possible with a sports-oriented activity vehicle.

For additional technical information, please revisit our April 6, 2009 press release introducing the X5M and X6M on BMW Press Club. Complete Product Guides are attached with this press release.

BMW Group Canada, based in Whitby, Ontario, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW AG and is responsible for the distribution of BMW luxury performance automobiles, Sports Activity Vehicles, Motorcycles, and MINI.
