Las Vegas, NV. MINI officially kicks off its first-ever participation in the Rebelle Rally, with the green flag dropping today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway October 8 at 7am PT, opening a new chapter in MINI’s legendary motorsport history.

The 2026 Rebelle Rally marks the competitive debut of the new MINI Countryman Untamed Edition, an adventure-focused variant created to bring greater capability, versatility, and freedom to explore beyond the pavement. The rally will serve as a demanding real-world proving ground for the new model as it takes on approximately 1,500 miles of rugged terrain across Nevada, California, and Utah.

MINI’s entry comes as part of the global introduction of the new MINI Countryman Untamed Edition, connecting the brand’s newest expression of adventure with a motorsport heritage built on challenging convention and succeeding where others might not expect it.

MINI’s First Rebelle Rally Team
Behind the wheel of MINI’s inaugural Rebelle Rally entry is Felicia Killman. An accomplished rally competitor and longtime MINI enthusiast. Killman competes in the American Rally Association and has experience both driving and navigating rally cars, including campaigning a specially prepared MINI in stage rally competition.

Joining Killman in the navigator’s seat is Erika Ferrer, a member of the BMW Group Corporate Communications team in Mexico. Ferrer began her motorsport career managing championship rally teams before moving into competition as a co-driver, earning three consecutive regional rally co-driver championships in Mexico. She has also co-driven renowned rally champion Benito Guerra during La Carrera Panamericana.

Together, Killman and Ferrer bring complementary experience in driving, navigation, motorsports and the MINI community to one of the world’s premier off-road competitions for women.

1,500 Miles. No GPS. One MINI.
The Rebelle Rally challenges teams to navigate more than 1,500 miles of demanding western U.S. terrain using traditional navigation skills. Competitors rely on maps, compass, road book, and teamwork, with GPS navigation prohibited.

For Killman and Ferrer, preparation has included intensive field training across dunes, rocky terrain, and loose surfaces, along with extensive practice in map-and-compass navigation and decision-making under pressure.

“Being part of MINI’s first Rebelle Rally is an incredible opportunity, and now that we’re at the starting line, the excitement is real,” said Felicia Killman, MINI team driver. “We’ve put in the work to prepare for the terrain, the navigation and everything the rally can throw at us. A dedicated BMW Group engineering team has prepared the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition for the demands of the competition, balancing their regular engineering responsibilities with the unique requirements of a vehicle that must operate far from paved roads and conventional support.

The vehicle preparation has also been supported by a group of technical and outfitting partners, including e.g. Thule, DealerTire, Pelican Cases, Morimoto Lighting, Heinlein Racing Development, Peak Design, and GoPro.

A New Chapter in MINI’s Rally Heritage

Featuring increased ground clearance, specially developed all-terrain tires, intelligent ALL4 all-wheel drive technology, and exclusive design and equipment features, it offers greater capability beyond paved roads. Generous interior space, flexible utility and cargo features and the elevated seating position provide the ideal foundation for an active lifestyle.

In Canada, the edition will be available at launch for the MINI Countryman S ALL4, as well as the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4.

Distinctive equipment for greater freedom.

The defining features of the Untamed Edition include newly developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires mounted on exclusive 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a bespoke design. Together with the increased ground clearance, they provide additional traction while giving the vehicle a more purposeful and confident stance. Textured protective films applied to the wheel arches, side sills and bonnet help protect the bodywork while emphasizing the edition’s rugged character. Newly designed underbody protection elements finished in Dark Steel, together with the edition-specific Untamed logo on the C-pillar, further reinforce its distinctive appearance.

The separately available roof tent, developed jointly with Italian specialist AUTOHOME, can be opened in seconds thanks to integrated gas struts. Weather-resistant materials, panoramic openings and a thoughtfully designed interior make it a highly practical companion for outdoor adventures. Both the hard shell and the tent are handcrafted in Italy, while the fiberglass reinforced construction ensures durability, insulation and long-term dimensional stability.

In addition, MINI has partnered with outdoor equipment specialist HELINOX to create an exclusive camping collection. Folding chairs and camping tables combine functionality, lightweight construction and outstanding portability with the distinctive design language of the Untamed Edition.

Technology for adventures beyond the road.

The suspension lift of 15 millimeters in conjunction with the unique wheel and tire combination increases ground clearance by up to 19 millimeters, enhancing the vehicle’s off-road capability. Approach and breakover angles have also been optimized. The suspension lift is fitted to all Untamed Edition variants in Canada.

The specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires further enhance traction while underlining the vehicle’s rugged character. The all-terrain tires are fitted to exclusive 19” Untamed Edition wheels. ABS, DSC and steering systems have been specifically calibrated to accommodate the revised suspension setup and the all-terrain tires. Combined with the intelligent ALL4 all-wheel drive system, the edition delivers enhanced traction and confident handling across a wide range of surfaces.

The optional trailer hitch offers a maximum towing capacity of 1,587 kg. In addition, roof load capacity is up to 75 kg while driving and up to 300 kg when stationary, making the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition ideally designed to support active and recreational lifestyles.

Distinctive exterior design with a rugged character.

"The Untamed Edition highlights qualities that are already part of the MINI Countryman’s DNA: robustness, versatility and a spirit of exploration. Our goal was to emphasize these characteristics through carefully selected colors, materials and details, while remaining true to the unmistakable MINI character," says Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design.

At the heart of the edition-specific exterior design is a newly interpreted front grille featuring a vertically oriented geometry. The new angular inserts emphasize the upright front end and give the vehicle an even stronger, more confident appearance. Finished in the exclusive accent colour Dark Steel, the contoured grille surround creates a technical design statement while reinforcing the premium character of the edition.

New side sill designs, redesigned front and rear underbody protection elements, and a newly sculpted rear diffuser contribute to a more powerful overall appearance. Textured matte black protective films on the wheel arches, side sills and Power Dome echo the vehicle’s design language, help protect against stone chips and further strengthen its functional off-road character.

The new 19-inch “Untamed Edition Spoke” light-alloy wheel takes inspiration from the rugged functionality of classic off-road steel wheels. Five powerful spokes, technical fastening details and the combination with all-terrain tires give the vehicle a particularly distinctive presence. The wheel center cap carries the MINI wordmark in Dark Steel, completing the unique design.

Exterior colors developed specifically for the Untamed Edition draw inspiration from natural, earthy and mineral tones. Alongside the exclusive finishes Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue and Frozen Nomad Blue, customers can also choose Nanuq White and Midnight Black. Frozen Nomad Blue marks the first matte exterior paint finish to be introduced into MINI series production and will be available as of March 2027 production. Its matte surface changes the perception of the vehicle’s proportions, highlighting surfaces and contours more prominently while creating a particularly sculptural and premium appearance. Roof finishes are available in either Glazed White or Jet Black.

All accent details consistently follow the outdoor-inspired design concept. MINI emblems at the front and rear, the Countryman lettering, grille surround, underbody protection elements and additional design accents are finished in Dark Steel, creating a technical yet robust appearance through their metallic finish. These elements are complemented by the edition-specific Untamed logo featuring a stylized mountain motif on the C-pillar.

Functional interior inspired by the outdoors.

Colours, materials and finishes throughout the cabin take inspiration from modern outdoor equipment, natural textures and highly functional products.

At the centre of the interior are the exclusive Vescin Nightshade Blue JCW Sport Seats. They combine premium perforated Vescin upholstery with knitted surfaces in the shoulder and headrest areas. The structured knit pattern is inspired by rock formations and is complemented by piping and decorative stitching in Cornflower Blue. An integrated Untamed logo featuring a mountain panorama completes the design. Alternative upholstery choices include Vescin Vintage Brown or Vescin Black.

Knitted surfaces on the dashboard and door panels continue to define the interior design. The specially developed Millennial Melange colour tone combines dark grey shades with a rich blue base. This two-tone knitted structure has become a distinctive feature of the new MINI family and contributes to a refined, premium ambience.

All interior accents have been changed from Vibrant Silver to Dark Steel. Additional Cornflower Blue accents can be found on the steering wheel strap, steering wheel spoke and selected interior elements. The redesigned center console storage box features a more robust geometry and, with its elastic retaining straps, consciously references premium outdoor equipment such as backpacks and climbing gear.

Rubber all-weather floor mats and a matching luggage compartment mat further enhance the edition’s everyday practicality. Their three-dimensional pattern takes inspiration from natural rock formations, combining functionality with a distinctive design language.

Production of the new MINI Countryman Untamed Edition will begin in November 2026 at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, with the global market launch scheduled for early 2027.

In addition to the exclusive Untamed Edition exterior colours and upholstery, customers may select from alternative exterior finishes, including Midnight Black Metallic or Nanuq White Metallic.

The 2027 MINI Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Edition will start at $49,900 CAD, while pricing for the 2027 MINI Countryman SE ALL4 Untamed Edition will start at $64,690 CAD. Canadian market deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027.

Munich/Graz. MINI and Austrian design studio Vagabund present a new creative collaboration: two unique one-off vehicles based on the MINI Countryman, both of which set a powerful statement for adventure spirit, community culture and festival lifestyle.

“A long-standing tradition and core value of the MINI brand is individual vehicle customization. Together with Vagabund, MINI continues this approach and demonstrates how a creative reinterpretation of the MINI Countryman – inspired by festival culture and music – can be brought to life through an engaged community,” says Jean‑Philippe Parain, Head of MINI.

MINI x Vagabund: The Duo
Vagabund successfully adds a distinctive design layer to the MINI Countryman that authentically expresses individuality, design philosophy and community spirit. MINI deliberately provides the platform – Vagabund contributes their creative signature. The result: two charismatic vehicles that reinterpret the versatility and openness of the MINI Countryman in an entirely new way.

“For us, design does not begin with the object, but with the idea behind it – and it only ends when that idea becomes tangible. The MINI x Vagabund one-offs translate a clear concept into an experiential statement. Two distinctive characters, united by MINI Countryman DNA, create a composition full of tension – making design visible as an emotional experience,” explains Paul Brauchart, Co-Founder and Head of Creative Vagabund.

With a sophisticated sound system, graphic accents and a bold colour concept, the two vehicles themselves become moving sound stages. The vehicle finished in Melting Silver features sand-coloured & white body exterior details: playful, graphic and light. The Midnight Black example stands in deliberate contrast – monochrome black, precise and technical. It is this contrast that enhances their perception and creates an overall impression that only becomes fully apparent when both vehicles are experienced together.

Bodywork & proportions
Distinctively reworked wheel arches create a visually wider stance and give the vehicles a further striking appearance. A front bumper attachment ensures a harmonious connection between the wings and the original front apron. Front and rear bumpers are colour-coordinated with the additional body modifications, with the radiator grille being revised accordingly. Along the side sills, sits prominently integrated VAGABUND lettering as a three-dimensional element.
The raised ride height further emphasizes the off-road character of the two MINI Countryman S ALL4 models. In addition, 20‑inch wheels are fitted, showcasing intentionally closed-off 3D‑printed wheel cover designs, which gives the wheels a muscular appearance and creates a clear visual association with loudspeakers.

The roof rack consists of three laser-cut and folded aluminium plates, complemented by an integrated stainless-steel mesh as an open surface. This construction visually references the design language of speaker covers, creating a connection between roof, side profile and overall vehicle design – turning the roof rack into an integral design element.

The vehicle as a sound system
The rear side windows have been removed and replaced by a specially-developed sound system designed specifically for outdoor sound projection, with community events in mind. At its heart is a newly developed loudspeaker housing made from cast polymer granite – a material that offers ideal conditions for precise and unadulterated sound reproduction.

Tweeters and mid-range speakers are integrated directly into the bodywork, while additional subwoofers in the rear deliver a powerful punch when the tailgate is opened. Each vehicle functions as an independent sound system – however together, both MINI Countryman show cars form a mobile stage, creating an immersive audio experience.

On the opposite side of the vehicle, a special detail can be found: an iconic Walkman integrated into a 3D‑printed housing. With a characteristic MINI sense of humour; this creates a deliberate counterpoint to the open external sound system – a personal, decelerated feeling. The combination of analogue nostalgia and contemporary construction underlines the experimental character of the entire concept.

MINI Individualization by Vagabund
Through Vagabund, the MINI Countryman becomes a moving platform for encounters and cultural exchange. The vehicles create community moments where people come together and enable experiences that go beyond the thrill of driving.

Vagabund is renowned for its expertise in rethinking existing products via visual transformations. The two one-off vehicles demonstrate how creative power lies in form, function and attention to detail. MINI and Vagabund share this approach: individuality instead of convention, craftsmanship instead of overbearing aesthetics, community instead of distance.

The MINI x Vagabund collaboration shows how MINI carries its historic commitment to individualization into the future: bold design interpretations, culture-driven themes (such as music), cultural leaders and community, combined with a high level of craftsmanship. The result is inspiring one-off examples that showcase the MINI Countryman in new and elevated ways. MINI will present one of the two one-off vehicles to the public for the first time at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. Following its premiere at the motor show, the models will be brought closer to people live and in action across a wide range of platforms – staying true to the community-driven approach.

Munich. The largest model in the brand's range impresses with its increased space, high level of comfort, attractive design and innovative technologies. The European Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has now confirmed the all-rounder's particularly high level of safety. Manufactured in Leipzig, the MINI Countryman stood out in the demanding test procedure thanks to its excellent occupant protection in various types of collision, effective protection for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as effective accident avoidance systems.

The extensive range of safety-related driver assistance systems fitted as standard also contributed to the top rating. Above all, the latest generation of front collision warning with braking function provides an additional plus in safety in urban traffic. It can now also detect pedestrians and cyclists approaching parallel to the lane from behind or in front when turning, effectively helping to avoid a collision with weaker road users. The system also warns of oncoming traffic when turning.

The MINI Countryman also scores highly in terms of passive safety with innovative systems. The standard centre airbag between the driver and front passenger seats was rated as highly effective.

The compact crossover model scored maximum points in the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact test for the protection of children. 

The integrated safety concept provides a high level of protection against injury at all times. According to Euro NCAP, the seats and head restraints in the front and rear seats offer good protection against cervical injuries that can occur in a rear impact. The testers also emphasised the emergency braking system to prevent secondary collisions and the intelligent emergency call.

Active engine compartment lids help to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians and cyclists. The system proved to be reliable and effective at different speeds in the Euro NCAP safety test.

The ratings of the Euro NCAP testing institute are a benchmark for accident safety recognised Europe-wide and the safety level is being raised constantly. Only new vehicles that offer excellent impact protection and are also well equipped with comprehensive and practical technology for accident avoidance receive the highest rating of 5 stars.

Leipzig. Electrification continues at BMW Group Plant Leipzig: Four months after launching production of the combustion-engined MINI Countryman, the all-electric version is now rolling off the lines at Leipzig as well. After phasing out production of the BMW i3, the birthplace of electric mobility at the BMW Group has welcomed another fully electric car to its range. It now manufactures four models with three drive types by two brands, all on a single production line: the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (including the plug-in hybrid version), the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the MINI Countryman in both its fully electric and combustion-powered versions.

The MINI Countryman Electric represents a major step in the MINI brand’s transition to full electrification by 2030 and combines an electrified go-kart feel with zero local emissions mobility. It comes in two fully electric variants: the Countryman E (150 kW, 204 hp | electricity consumption 17.4 – 15.7 kWh/100 km | CO2 emissions 0 g/km) and the more powerful all-wheel Countryman SE ALL4 (230 kW, 313 hp | electricity consumption 18.5 – 16.8 kWh/100 km | CO2 emissions 0 g/km).  

Consistent plant upgrades and flexible production system

To enable production of up to 350,000 units a year – 100,000 more than previously – Plant Leipzig has been continuously upgraded since 2018, with extensive additions and upgrades to the bodyshop, paintshop, assembly and logistics. “Our cars and components are very much in demand. In recent years the BMW Group has invested around 1.6 billion euros in the Leipzig site to produce additional vehicles and electric components, and now we’re increasing vehicle volumes too – which is great news for our plant,” said Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director.

The main driver behind the volume increase is the MINI Countryman. During the course of 2024, output will rise to almost 500 units a day – on top of the 800 or so BMW vehicles the plant is producing. What’s more, thanks to its flexible production system, Plant Leipzig is in a position to respond quickly to customer demand, for example by increasing the share of fully electric vehicles.

Flexible assembly structures also meant the MINI Countryman Electric could be integrated seamlessly into production. The situation is similar with the different drive units, which are all produced on one and the same line in aggregate assembly and prepared for what’s known as “marriage” with the body. The e-drives, transmissions and control electronics (collectively known as the highly integrated electric drive topology, or HEAT) for the two all-electric models are connected directly in the plant. A new production line was required only for the control electronics.

More staff and nightshifts for increased production volume

Higher production volume means secure employment and up to 900 additional employees in vehicle production alone. By the end of 2024, Plant Leipzig will employ around 7,000 BMW staff. Working hours will need to be adjusted in all technologies, with nightshifts in assembly starting for the first time in September of this year and cars being produced round the clock in three shifts.

“Plant Leipzig first went on stream in 2005 with about 2,600 employees in production. 19 years later there are over 7,000. Over the years, the plant has grown steadily and considerably. The start of nightshifts in assembly represents another important milestone in the success story of our plant and is a clear show of confidence by our company in our site here in Leipzig,” emphasised Works Council Chairman Jens Köhler.

Made at Plant Leipzig: high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric

With the production launch of the MINI Countryman Electric, all three stages of the Gen 5 high-voltage battery production process are now represented at BMW Group Plant Leipzig: cell coating, module production and battery assembly. Operations in all three are currently ramping up, with five cell-coating, three module-production and two high-voltage battery-production lines now in place.

“We are in the middle of the transformation to e-mobility,” said Markus Fallböhmer, Head of Battery Production at the BMW Group. “Starting this year, Plant Leipzig will carry out every stage of our in-house high-voltage battery production process. It’s our next great step forwards.”

Plant Leipzig’s e-component production capacity has been increasing since 2021. It will now manufacture not just the high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric but also e-components for the BMW iX1, BMW iX2, BMW i4, BMW i5 and BMW iX made at other sites. The e-component production unit at Leipzig currently employs some 1,000 people.

To enable production of high-voltage batteries, spaces previously used for the BMW i3 and BMW i8 have been converted and new buildings added. One of them is a new hall with a footprint of about 61,000 m². This houses two lines capable of producing up to 300,000 high-voltage batteries a year. The BMW Group has invested over 900 million euros in e-component production at Plant Leipzig to date.

Resource-saving painting processes

At launch, the fully electric MINI Countryman comes in three additional body colours: British Racing Green, Chili Red and Blazing Blue – and with MINI’s trademark contrast roof, if desired. This is painted using a new overspray-free method that saves resources and is currently being readied for series operation. The term “overspray” refers to the mist of excess paint particles that forms when bodies are painted the conventional way. With the new technique, this mist no longer occurs. This makes it easier to paint in multiple colours as the laborious process of masking is no longer required. Overspray-free painting also helps save CO₂ emissions, as exhaust from the cabin requires less cleansing. In addition, it requires considerably less conditioned air, i.e. air that is brought to the exact temperature and humidity required for painting. As a result, less energy is needed to temper air and treat exhaust.

The burner technology used to dry the paint on contrast roofs was also converted for the start of MINI Countryman production and now consists of a bivalent system. The fuel-flexible burners can run on hydrogen (H2) as well as gas (methane, CH4) and even switch between the two while in operation. Five such bivalent hydrogen-capable burners are used to produce the contrast roofs for the MINI Countryman.

Further burners in the paintshop will also gradually switch to bivalent operations, with the next six hydrogen-capable burners just installed. This makes Leipzig a pioneer in the automotive industry and takes it ever closer to lower CO₂ emissions. “Our vision at Plant Leipzig is to decarbonise production as far as possible by replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen,” said Petra Peterhänsel, explaining the long-term focus of the facility. This will require sufficient green hydrogen from a grid. A regional hydrogen grid is currently in planning, with Plant Leipzig set to benefit.

The ALL4 all-wheel drive system provides a noticeable increase in traction, safety, driving stability and agility. Thanks to its fast and precise electronic control, the power is distributed between the front and rear wheels as needed under all road and weather conditions.

The slightly increased track width and increased wheelbase form the basis for excellent driving dynamics and increase comfort. For even more driving fun on any surface, new wheel and tire combinations are available for the MINI Countryman.

Direct steering and the combination of single-joint McPherson strut front axle and multi-link rear axle guarantee the unmistakable and typical MINI go-kart feeling. To switch between city traffic and trips into nature, the chassis can be balanced and comfortable or particularly sporty. An adaptive chassis with 15 mm lowering and frequency-selective dampers is optionally available.

In Canada, the MINI Countryman S ALL4 will offer an estimated output of 241 hp and 295 lb.ft of torque with its smooth, two-litre four-cylinder turbo engine.

A new feature of MINI is the option of semi-automated driving on multi-lane routes. This allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel at speeds of up to 60 km/h, as long as they continue to closely monitor traffic and is ready to intervene at any time. When changing lanes, the assistant system helps by identifying the gaps in traffic that are necessary on the way to the exit. This then brings the vehicle to optimal speed and automatically initiates the lane change.

More MINI aesthetics with a reduced design language.

Regardless of the terrain — a MINI Countryman is and has always been recognizable as a MINI at first glance. The new design impresses with its particularly clear aesthetics. From the front, the vehicle is characterized by the distinct shape of the bonnet and the new octagonal front grille. MINI LED headlamps accentuate the uniqueness of the reduced design through individual signature modes that can be selected by the driver. The short overhangs and the slim outline are just as typical MINI as the stretched contrasting roof.

The wide and upright stand of the new MINI Countryman underlines its presence and solid off-road character. Vertical rear lights frame the vehicle silhouette and make the new MINI model look particularly upright and sporty.

Breaking new ground with innovative materials.

In the interior of the new MINI Countryman S ALL4, clear shapes underline the new design language. The dashboard with two-tone textile creates a new, warm and welcoming feeling of space. The panoramic glass roof brings more light into the interior, and high-quality comfort seats provide a secure and comfortable grip.

High-quality materials, innovative technology and individually adjustable lighting create an immersive driving experience. One of the highlights of the new MINI Countryman are the MINI Experience Modes. Each mode has its own design and ambient lighting. With a single command, the look and atmosphere of the cockpit is transformed. The various modes emphasize different aspects of the diverse adventurer. The new MINI Driving Sounds create a unique atmosphere that supports personal driving settings particularly emotionally with specially composed sounds.

In the cockpit of the MINI Countryman, the focus is on the high-resolution, round OLED display. With a 9.4 inch diameter and a high-quality glass surface, the instrument cluster sets a new standard. For convenient operation of  the infotainment and assistance systems, the MINI Interaction Unit moved closer to the  driver and passenger. With the new MINI Operating System 9, all vehicle functions can be operated intuitively via touch or voice assistants. The rear of the vehicle is highly versatile and spacious. With the rear seat folded down, even bulky items can be easily transported in the 460 to 1,450 litre luggage compartment (Based on EU measures).

Increased functionality makes for an immersive driving experience.

Drivers can use the toggle switches on the MINI toggle bar just below the OLED round screen to control important  driving functions in addition to select controls on the steering wheel. The central, high-resolution OLED display is home to all other functions. Here, the driver can also select the new MINI Experience Modes and set up their preferred driving ambience using specially designed backgrounds and sounds. The go-kart mode provides a particularly sporty driving experience, and occupants can hear the engine sound with impressive intensity in the cabin. The MINI projector on the back of the OLED display can be used to bathe the dashboard in atmospheric color schemes and patterns that correspond to the selected Experience Mode.

In addition, occupants can use the voice assistant to operate numerous functions, such as navigation, telephone, and entertainment. Voice-controlled interaction takes place on the circular OLED display in the form of an animation of graphic elements, typography, and an avatar.

The all-new MINI Countryman S ALL4 will have a starting base price in Canada of $45,990.  Production for the Canadian market begins March 2024 with first units expected to arrive at dealers in May 2024.

Leipzig. The start of MINI Countryman production marks a number of firsts and milestones for BMW Group Plant Leipzig: for the first time, a MINI model is being made in Germany – on the same production line as the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series. It’s all made possible by the plant’s flexible structures and development. Over the last five years the BMW Group has invested €700 million to ready Leipzig for increased vehicle volumes and adapt it for MINI-specific requirements. By the end of 2024 the workforce in production will increase by over 900. In addition, the new MINI Countryman is a catalyst for innovations in sustainable production.

“By launching production of the MINI Countryman here in Leipzig, we are introducing multibrand operations to our flexible production system,” explained Milan Nedeljković, Board Member for Production. “Plant Leipzig also offers a number of highlights in terms of resource conservation in production, providing further evidence of the successful rollout of our long-term masterplan: the BMW iFACTORY.”

Seamless integration through flexible structures 

When it comes to production of the new MINI Countryman, the BMW Group is building on the skills and extreme flexibility of Plant Leipzig to forge new pathways in manufacturing. Seamlessly integrated into the production process, the MINI Countryman now rolls off the same assembly line as the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Thanks to its flexible assembly structures, Plant Leipzig is in a position to produce two brands with three different drives – combustion, plug-in-hybrid and fully electric – all on the same production line. The third-generation MINI Countryman will be available with a petrol, diesel or fully electric powertrain, with the high-voltage batteries for the MINI Countryman Electric also being made in Leipzig. It will reach dealerships on 17 February 2024.

Investments and recruitment to increase production volume

The BMW Group has invested some €500 million in Leipzig to increase production volume for new models. Since 2018 the bodyshop, paintshop, assembly and logistics have undergone extensive additions and upgrades, taking production capacity up from 250,000 units previously, to as much as 350,000 units a year at present.

To adapt the production system to MINI-specific requirements, the BMW Group invested around €200 million. Initially approx. 100 MINI Countryman cars a day will roll off the production lines, rising to 500 during the course of next year – in addition to the almost 1,000 BMW cars already coming out of the factory every day. This will not only secure existing jobs but also create up to 900 new ones in vehicle production alone.

Electromobility and MINI production drive development

Another important milestone in the development and extension of Plant Leipzig is its transition to electromobility. “Leipzig remains electric,” says a cheerful Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Director. “With the BMW i3 and i8, we were at the vanguard of e-mobility at the BMW Group, and from 2024, we will be producing our next fully electric car: the MINI Countryman Electric. We will manufacture the high-voltage batteries for it in-house as well.”

Starting next year BMW Group Plant Leipzig will run the entire production process for the current fifth generation of high-voltage batteries. This consists of three stages: cell coating, module production and battery assembly. The five cell coating lines, three module production lines and the first high-voltage battery assembly lines are all in the process of going into operation, with a second high-voltage battery assembly line scheduled for launch in 2024.

Capacity for e-component production has also been increasing, since 2021, making Plant Leipzig an important a supplier across the BMW production network. The parts are used in fully electric vehicles such as the BMW iX1, BMW i4, BMW i5 and BMW iX. E-component production in Leipzig currently employs over 800 people, and there are plans to develop it further, with investments totalling more than €800 million.

Sustainable materials and production 

The MINI Countryman Electric is a major step in the MINI brand’s transition to full electrification by 2030 and combines an electrified go-kart feel with a reduced environmental footprint. In developing the new model, the MINI brand’s responsible attitude was very much in the focus with regard to materials and production: chrome no longer features anywhere in the interior or exterior, and the light-metal alloy wheels are cast from up to 70 percent secondary aluminium. The permanently electrically excited synchronous motors are highly efficient and made entirely without rare earth minerals.

The interior is made purely from innovative, high-quality materials that are easy on the environment. The dashboard, door facias, floor covering and foot mats, for example, are made of recycled textiles. A high-quality alternative to conventional materials such as plastics, recycled textiles reduce CO₂ emissions along the value chain and require less water to manufacture.

Innovative painting method for contrast roof 

One of the striking design features of the MINI exterior is the contrast roof, which can be ordered in a different colour from the rest of the body. In the MINI Countryman it will be painted using a new, resource-friendly method known as overspray-free painting. Currently being readied for series operation, overspray-free painting does away with the excess paint – or overspray – generated by conventional painting methods and makes surfaces with more than one colour easier to produce, as they no longer require the laborious process of masking. Overspray-free painting also helps save CO₂ emissions, as exhaust air from the cabin requires less cleansing. Plus it requires considerably less conditioned air, i.e. air that is brought to a set temperature and humidity. As a result, less energy is needed to temper air and treat exhaust.

Another sustainable innovation operating at Plant Leipzig is the burner technology used to dry the paint on contrast roofs. Last year Leipzig became the first car plant in the world to pilot the new technology, which can run on not only natural gas but also hydrogen. The flexible burners can burn hydrogen (H2), natural gas (methane – CH4) or a mixture of the two and can even switch between them without having to halt operations. After successful tests, Plant Leipzig has now installed five hydrogen-capable bivalent burners for series operations, which are now being used for the contrast roof of the MINI Countryman. Plans are in place to convert further burners in the paintshop to bivalent operations.

Plant Leipzig – Built for sustainability

At Plant Leipzig, the focus has always been very much on efficient processes and a long-term strategy for energy generation and consumption, ever since planning began. “Sustainability is in the DNA of BMW Group Plant Leipzig. There’s one example that everyone can see: our four wind turbines, which generate electricity for the plant,” Petra Peterhänsel explained. They were erected in 2013 and deliver 10 MW (generating approx.  25 GWh/year). The second milestone came in 2017, when the battery storage farm went on stream. Equipped with up to 700 second-life high-voltage batteries from BMW i3 vehicles, it offers interim electricity storage for energy from the wind turbines and elsewhere, helping to optimise local energy management and stabilise the grid.

The new MINI JCW Countryman features 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras in total. They support the innovative driver assistance systems and enable partially automated Level 2 driving in the comprehensive Driving Assistant Professional option package. The assistant can detect gaps in the traffic necessary for changing lanes heading towards an exit and brings the vehicle to the optimum speed for the assisted lane change. The newly designed C-pillar seamlessly joins the contrasting roof in motorsport-inspired Chili Red. The roof curves down towards the rear, giving the MINI JCW Countryman an agile silhouette despite its increased height and width.

The new MINI models interpret design features with impressive clarity.

The all-electric MINI Cooper: the reinvention of the original.

Going into its fifth model generation, the MINI Cooper 3-door still embodies the core of the brand. As an all-electric vehicle, the new MINI is available in the Cooper E variant and as the Cooper SE, featuring higher output and range. Within the new MINI family, “Cooper” refers to all MINI 3-door and 5-door models, and also the MINI Convertible. It is no longer used as an engine specification. The classic round headlights and the striking octagonal grille are the dominant features of the front section, making the model the characteristic face of MINI.

The distinctively structured bonnet contributes to the intriguing surface design. Black side sills visually move the all-electric MINI Cooper closer to the road. Four different trims – Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW – serve the purpose of differentiation, each giving the new MINI its own distinct character.

The 135 kW/184 hp (Estimated) electric motor in the MINI Cooper E generates a torque of 290 Nm and accelerates the vehicle from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. With an estimated output of 160 kW/218 hp, the MINI Cooper SE sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds with a maximum torque of 330 Nm. The range determined in the WLTP test cycle is an estimated 305 kilometres for the MINI Cooper E and 402 kilometres for the MINI Cooper SE. *

The interior: minimalist, digital, immersive & warm.

In the interior, the design of the front section harks back to the elegantly minimalist design of the classic Mini with a slim and generous dashboard and a multifunction steering wheel for hallmark MINI go-kart feeling. The central OLED display, the MINI Interaction Unit, sets a new standard with its high resolution and contributes to the heightened presence of the circular instrument, which has a diameter of 240 millimetres.

The new MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated by saying the words “Hey MINI”. Being able to control numerous functions with voice control increases comfort, facilitating greater concentration on driving. The newly designed reduced toggle bar with five switches includes all driving functions and is ideally positioned for the driver below the circular instrument. The gearshift has been eliminated to create additional storage space between the front seats. In the wireless charging area in this storage space, mobile devices can be charged and conveniently accessed at any time.

The new interior experience is mainly created by the textile surfaces. A specially developed knitting process is used to create the easy-care, versatile structure of the two-colour textile. Optionally, up to seven MINI Experience Modes bring the dashboard to life. Special light projections extend the colours of the round instrument across the dashboard, expanding the overall experience of the user interface in the interior. The new cockpit customisation options add a personal feel-good factor to the interior of the new MINI Cooper.

All trims of the all-electric MINI Cooper feature seats in high-quality Vescin artificial leather, while all textiles and yarns for the seat, knitted surfaces, vehicle headliner and floor are made from recycled materials.

The new MINI Countryman: all-electric and adventurous.

Higher, longer, MINI – with an additional six centimetres in height and thirteen centimetres in length, the new MINI Countryman has grown noticeably compared to its predecessor, offering even more space and comfort. Wider wheel arches and a clear, modern design enhance the crossover aesthetic appeal of the rugged MINI adventurer. The elegant design of the C-pillar differs according to the vehicle trim and is based on one of the vehicle’s four roof colours. The upright shape of the new Matrix taillights frame the rear of the vehicle. Below the model lettering, the body tapers across the entire width and, together with the striking, all-round vehicle band in black, emphasises the enhanced presence of the new MINI Countryman.

The 150 kW/204 hp (Est.) electric motor in the MINI Countryman E generates a torque of 250 Nm and accelerates the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. With 230 kW/313 hp (Est.), the electric motors of the all-wheel drive MINI Countryman SE ALL4 generate a combined torque of 494 Nm in total and accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The range determined according to the WLTP test cycle is an estimated 462 kilometres for the MINI Countryman E and 433 kilometres for the MINI Countryman SE ALL4. *

The interior: individual, multifunctional and full of high-level comfort.

In the interior, the versatile new MINI Countryman is the largest and most spacious MINI model available thanks to its high degree of adaptability. The clearly designed dashboard and the door panels are covered with woven textile surfaces. Their design is coordinated with eight different MINI Experience Modes: these maximise the options for individualising the interior by means of light projections, a customisable user interface and new engine sounds.

The MINI Operating System 9, which has been optimised for touch and voice control, together with the central OLED display with a diameter of 240 millimetres and many new, digital additional functions in the MINI Connected Package, noticeably raises the level of hallmark MINI driving fun in the cockpit of the new MINI Countryman. This also becomes apparent in the newly designed multifunction steering wheel with two-spoke design and optional textile strap instead of the classic lower spoke. Compared to the MINI Cooper, the air outlets in the cockpit are arranged vertically and, together with the upright dashboard, emphasise the character of the new MINI Countryman.

As in the exterior, the vertically mounted door handles in the interior are integrated flush with the surfaces. In combination with the tinted panoramic glass roof and the clear, reduced shapes of the front seats and rear seat, the ambience in the new MINI Countryman is particularly bright and spacious. The increased body size provides additional headroom and legroom, expanding the space options in the compact premium Crossover. The four available trims – Essential, Classic, Favoured and JCW – offer different design and equipment levels and give the new MINI Countryman a distinctive character.

Richmond Hill, ON.  In the interior, the robust MINI adventurer offers even more space, comfort and safety – Even off the beaten track thanks to all-wheel drive. The new MINI Experience Modes and expanded driving assistant systems including the voice-controlled MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant make excursions in the new MINI Countryman even more comfortable and entertaining. The all-electric drivetrain contributes to this too, further enhancing the brand’s hallmark driving fun with two levels of power output. As the first MINI made in Germany, the model also breaks new ground in terms of production.

The 4,433 mm long, 1,843 mm wide and 1,656 mm high MINI Countryman is both a stylish all-rounder and a spacious everyday companion. Thanks to the wheelbase, which has been increased to 2,692 mm, comfort has been further increased. The all-electric MINI Countryman is available in two performance levels: As a MINI Countryman E with an estimated output of 150 kW/204 hp and a torque of 250 Nm, it has an estimated WLTP-cycle range of 462 km. The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 with an estimated 230 kW/313 hp and 494 Nm has achieved an estimated range of 433 km on the same WLTP test cycle.  

In its electrified third generation, the largest model in the new MINI family, continues the brand’s journey into an era of locally emission-free electric mobility. The compact crossover model has been on course for success ever since its market launch in 2010, with five doors and – new for MINI at the time – more than four metres in length. No wonder: after all, the optional all-wheel drive of this powerfully motorised adventurer ensures safe and unbridled driving fun – even off the beaten track.

The new MINI design language: Charismatic Simplicity.

The design of the new MINI model generation is modern, digital and unmistakable. With the new MINI family, the brand takes driving fun, the user experience and a responsible attitude forward into a new era. This comprehensive transformation on the way to becoming an all-electric brand by 2030 is reflected in the authentic design of the new models, combining progressive technology with the elementary principles of the brand’s body design and origins. In doing so, it incorporates the urban character of MINI along with the sheer joy of innovation.

“The new MINI Countryman is our vehicle for the whole family. In its latest generation, it has not only grown in height, length and interior — it has also noticeably improved in character, appearance and experience. It is now even more present, more spacious and more stable. His presence on the front is reflected in the upright proportions and vertical orientation of the design language. Its solid and stable character is also immediately recognizable by the more distinctive radiator grille, distinctive headlights and its very sculptural bonnet,” says Oliver Heilmer, Head of MINI Design.

The exterior design: expressive minimalism with character.

With its upright and minimalist silhouette, the new MINI Countryman embodies the adventurous flair, versatility and reliability of a compact crossover vehicle. The car’s expressive off-road character is defined by typical MINI proportions, ensuring the new MINI Countryman has high recognition value. Short overhangs, a short bonnet and the contrasting long wheelbase with large wheels combine classic MINI design features with an athletically grown body.

In addition, the new design of the MINI Countryman embraces improved aerodynamics in order to achieve environmentally friendly consumption figures based on this aspect of the vehicle as well. The result is an impressive cd value of 0.26 for the all-electric MINI Countryman – compared to 0.31 in the predecessor model. As such, the next-generation MINI crossover model achieves a new optimum in comparison with its competitors, embracing clever vehicle design with a minimal footprint.

The modern exterior design is supported by clear-cut surfaces, a slightly curved roof with a seamless transition to the newly designed C-pillar in a trim-specific shape, and the characteristic circumferential Black Band. The distinctive C-pillar element creates a new, highly visible stage for differentiating between different models, equipment options and subsequent editions. The design depends on the selected equipment and thus differentiates between the equipment variants. Graphics and lettering are minimalistic, blend harmoniously with the bas-relief and also match the color of the selected contrasting roof.

Reduction to the essentials results in hallmark MINI design features such as the visual three-part division in vehicle body, a circumferential window area and a contrasting roof having an even greater impact, allowing the new design language to develop a powerful presence.

MINI LED headlights with Signature Modes: striking radiance thanks to individual light modes.

The front end of the all-electric MINI Countryman is defined by the expressive contour of the new octagonal front grille. A particularly small radar sensor is integrated flush into its surface to support the increased functionality of the driver assistant systems.

In the new model generation, the MINI Countryman is the first vehicle with Level 2 assistance systems that enable semi-automated driving. Certain design details in the vehicle front vary depending on the chosen trim level. For example, the Favoured Trim places the spotlight on the new Vibrant Silver accent colour for exterior details.

The daytime running light elements of theLED lights support this striking look with fresh radiance due to unique light signatures. Optionally, the daytime running light elements can be switched to create three light signatures in the front and rear LED lights, thereby reinforcing the distinctive character of each vehicle. In addition, all light modes start and end with a specially orchestrated welcome and goodbye animation. This interaction with the vehicle increases the anticipation of the MINI even before you set off.

Purist design for a powerful presence and increased dynamic performance.

As with the body design as a whole, the front headlights are not framed with chrome elements anymore, which results in the front section having a focused expression. Together with the tautly curved bonnet, the slightly wider track and the raised body, the most versatile MINI exudes superior robustness.

Viewed from the side, the new MINI Countryman has a minimalist appearance with a powerful presence. The circumferential Black Band is narrower than on the predecessor. The distinctive design of the C-pillar supports the roofline at the rear of the vehicle while at the same time making it appear shorter. This makes the entire vehicle body look more upright, emphasising the character of the new MINI Countryman. Rims of up to 20 inches in various designs add to the robust appearance. The focus is much more on the body color generating an elegant appearance.

As a result of the new MINI aesthetic, the rear section has an especially consistent appearance with its clear surfaces and flush rear lights. Here, the vertical light cluster quotes the classic MINI lights and frames the large central section of the vehicle’s rear. This emphasises the wider stance of the new MINI Countryman while at the same time giving the body a particularly high-quality and upright appearance. As with the front headlights, the rear lights are also able to highlight certain vehicle characteristics by means of different modes. The pronounced shoulder section reinforces the powerful appearance of the new MINI Countryman. The rear tapers off below the model inscription, visually dividing the rear into two sections. The rear apron in the lower area emphasises the solid stance of the vehicle, while the generous surfaces in the upper area make the vehicle look lighter.

Four individual trims and new roof colours.

With Vibrant Silver, a new shade expands the MINI Countryman's range of characteristic contrasting roofs. In addition, the model is available in four different trims. The Essential Trim presents maximum clarity and a reduced overall appearance, highlighting certain functional parts such as the logo in the new colour Vibrant Silver. The new range of external paint finishes underlines the modernity of the new MINI adventurer, setting positive accentuations with bright tones such as Indigo Sunset Blue.

While the Classic Trim primarily applies to the interior, the Favoured Trim features particularly expressive details on the exterior. This trim variant, for example, offers on the new MINI Countryman the option of choosing the new Vibrant Silver shade for the roof matching the contrasting front grille.

Meanwhile the John Cooper Works (JCW) Trim lends maximum emphasis to the sporty flair of the MINI Countryman with a distinctive front and rear design. The front grille frame and logo in high-gloss black emphasise the car’s powerful overall impression together with the trim-specific bonnet stripes in red and black. A contrasting roof in Chili Red – inspired by motor sports – along with the striking C-pillar in the same colour and a JCW logo optionally emphasises to the hallmark MINI driving dynamics.

The interior: generous, digital, immersive & warm.

The dashboard in the new MINI Countryman works entirely without an additional display behind the steering wheel: all relevant content is projected onto the optional head-up display. This reduction to the essentials opens up the view to the front, shaping the spacious interior with cleverly designed, high-quality components.

Like the new MINI Cooper, the spacious, curved dashboard in Classic, Favoured and JCW trim is also made of textile surfaces for the first time. The new, homely feel-good atmosphere in the MINI Countryman is defined by warm, pleasant materials. A specially developed knitting process is used to create the versatile, easy-care structure of the textile in two-colour design made of recycled polyester. The entire interior is divided into an upper and lower section along a horizontal line below the new round instrument. Above this, all design elements such as the air vents and door handles are vertically aligned, emphasising the character of the vehicle, also in the interior.

Clear shapes in the cockpit and the increased space in the front seats give the interior a modern, airy feel. The driver and front passenger enjoy significantly enhanced comfort in the new MINI Countryman, with almost three centimetres of additional width in the shoulder and elbow area. The shoulder width of the rear seats has also been increased by 2.5 centimetres.

The optional panoramic glass roof makes the interior particularly bright and friendly, with a front half which can be opened. The sport seats are available in a basic version and in a JCW version as well as with an optional electric seat adjustment with memory function. Optionally, the massage function can provide additional relaxation. Between the front seats, the wide, adjustable central armrest enhances the seating comfort.

The rear of the vehicle offers maximum reduction and space. The position of the rear row of seats can be adjusted in length by up to 13 centimetres. This provides either highly comfortable legroom at the rear or additional volume in the luggage compartment. The backrest of the three rear seats is also individually adjustable in six positions by up to 12 degrees. This means that the seat either offers the option to lean back or else supports an upright sitting posture. With the rear seat folded down, even bulky items can be easily transported in the 460-litre to 1,450-litre luggage compartment. An additional floor compartment provides convenient space for the charging accessories of the all-electric MINI Countryman. The optionally available trailer hitch offers an additional plus in practicality. The trailer hitch can be electrically retracted and extended. The towing capacity is up to 1,200 kg.

MINI Interaction Unit: High-resolution OLED display brings a quantum leap into the digital age.

The central OLED display sets a new benchmark with its high resolution and, for the first time, its round shape. The centre icon is the defining feature of the interior, extending the classic round instrument of the predecessor model with the addition of a completely new feel and versatile functions. As an instrument cluster, the MINI Interaction Unit is a centre of both experience and comfort. Thanks to the MINI Operating System 9, all vehicle functions can be operated intuitively via touch or voice. In the redesigned cockpit, the display is moved closer to both front seats and is particularly easy to reach. The diameter of the thin touch display with a high-quality glass edge and a diameter of 240 mm is reminiscent of the usual smartphone standards in its operating logic.

The graphic presentation of the content is modern and focuses on the essentials. The upper area contains relevant vehicle-related information such as speed and battery status. When the speed indicator is pressed, a large, striking display with full-screen speedometer appears that puts a clear focus on driving. In the Home menu, the other widgets are displayed in thumbnail view to the left and right of the current menu function. They can be brought up and selected by swiping horizontally to the centre. In the lower area of the OLED display, the menu items Navigation, Media, Phone and Climate can be selected directly at any time. All other functions can be accessed via the menu in the same way as on a smartphone. The display returns to the default setting via the home button.

Emotional MINI Experience Modes: for immersive driving experiences.

The optional MINI Experience Modes extend the indoor experience using a projector unit behind the round instrument. The dashboard thus shines in different patterns and colours with special light graphics, depending on the choice of experience mode. The colours of the ambient lighting throughout the vehicle are based on the projected light patterns. In combination with the newly created MINI Driving Sounds on the all-electric MINI Countryman and specific graphic elements on the OLED display, MINI fans can experience the entire interior of the new MINI Countryman in a completely new way.

The immersive user experience adds entirely new customisation options to the new MINI Countryman. In Personal Mode, for example, an individually selected image can be set as the display background via the MINI App. A digital colour picker then identifies the dominant colours of the image for projection onto the textile dashboard surfaces.

The ambient lighting under the dashboard and in the door mirror is also colour-coded to match these projections.

Specially designed dynamic backgrounds give the different MINI Experience Modes a particularly vibrant look. Subtle light movements support the various options of the modes without distracting the driver. Each mode makes a “Mode App” the focus of the display that matches the ambience. In Go-Kart Mode there is a highly dynamic focus on MINI racing DNA, for example. The display and the interior as a whole then feature the colours anthracite and red, while specific analogue displays for driving dynamics complement this MINI Experience Mode inspired by John Cooper Works. In Vivid Mode, the ambient lighting is based on the colours of the album cover of the current music playback. Core Mode, Green Mode, Timeless Mode, Balance Mode and Personal Mode are also available for selection according to mood and personal needs. Trail mode, which focuses on the driver's desire to discover, is unique for the MINI Countryman.

The redesigned toggle bar. simply typical MINI.

Underneath the dashboard, the design of the new MINI Countryman is particularly tidy in appearance and steeped in history. The design of the newly configured toggle bar quotes the various functions with five individually designed toggle switches. This makes the most important driving functions (parking brake, gear selector, start/stop key, experience mode toggle, volume control) directly accessible. At the same time it eliminates the gear selector in the center console generating space for practical and spacious storage options.

In addition to the enlarged cup holders, this also includes a new, generous storage area below the toggle bar. The latter provides space for smartphones to be stowed at an easy-to-find location and wirelessly charged at the same time. Starting with the “Favoured Trim”, a storage box with a matching knit cover is also available as standard.

Four newly designed trims for an individual look.

The new, modern color and material concept is also deliberately kept minimalistic. Only newly developed, high-quality and environmentally friendly materials are used. Recycled polyester surfaces in the form of a high-quality 2D knit cover the dashboard and the interior of the door. Their two-tone design adds distinctive accents, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the interior. Four newly designed trims convey differing versions of the modern feel-good concept in the interior.

The Essential Trim features an interior of maximum clarity and reduction. Black sports seats with distinctly patterned multitone textile harmonise with a coloured textile band on the dashboard. Certain functional parts on the inside and outside are highlighted with the new accent colour Vibrant Silver. On the exterior, for example, the logo appears in the new colour shade, contrasting sharply with the glossy black, octagonal front grille.

Starting with the Classic Trim, the two-spoke basic steering wheel is replaced as a three-spoke version with a new textile strap in the six o´clock spoke. In addition, MINI uses a modern 2D knitted textile in the interior of a production vehicle for the first time. On the dashboard and doors, two-tone black and blue knitted textile provides a fascinating contrast to the high-quality synthetic leather seat. The latter is available in grey and black featuring a perforated houndstooth pattern, while the side contrasts in blue textile.

The contemporary, high-quality Favoured Trim is the most expressive variant. The elegant Dark Petrol finish extends from the dashboard to the door panels, where it merges smoothly with brown knitted textile. Extravagant sports seats with traditional accent stitching and embroidered MINI logo are available in three colours. The perforated synthetic leather made of Vescin sets dark or light accents with a particularly high-quality look, according to preference. The exterior with the front grille in Vibrant Silver can be combined in a particularly apt way with the complete new roof, also in the colour Vibrant Silver.

The JCW Trim offers an interpretation of the new material concept that lends maximum emphasis to sporty flair. The JCW seat with sports seat geometry and additional lateral support noticeably enhances comfort. Combined with multi-coloured knitted textile and black synthetic leather with red stitching, the colour concept echoes the design of the dashboard and door trim. A distinct front and rear design likewise highlights the racing DNA of the trim in the exterior, with the vehicle grille and logo in high-gloss black underlining the powerful overall impression. Optional features include a contrasting Chili Red roof and JCW-specific bonnet stripes in red or black.

“Hey MINI!”: the first MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant.

In the new MINI Countryman, numerous functions can be controlled using the brand’s first ever fully-fledged voice assistant. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant can be activated with the greeting “Hey MINI” or by using the push-to-talk steering wheel button. Voice-controlled interaction takes place on the round OLED display in the form of an animation of graphic elements, typography and an avatar. For the visualisation, users have the option to choose between “MINI” – a stylised representation of a MINI – or optionally "Spike" already familiar to many MINI fans. Communication with this virtual travel companion is particularly true-to-life thanks to improved voice recognition. In order to ensure smoother communication, oral utterances are transmitted instantly and visualised on the display. In this way, it is possible to control navigation, telephony, entertainment and numerous other vehicle functions by simply speaking the relevant command.

In the course of the dialogue with the driver, the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant continuously learns and is able to take on day-to-day tasks on repeated routes. Based on geo-based data, for example, the vehicle can learn to automatically open the window when entering a car park, thereby making day-to-day routines more convenient and personal.

Advanced assistance systems: relaxed driving with improved safety.

In addition to the familiar Automatic Active Cruise Control, the Steering and Lane Assistant supports lateral guidance as part of the optional Driving Assistant Plus package. Convenient and cooperative steering helps the driver stay on track. The increased comfort offered by the system combines comfortable, relaxed and superior control of the vehicle while relieving the driver of the monotonous and less demanding aspects of driving. The clear-cut arrangement of the displays, operating elements and easy-to-understand functional features result in a high degree of system safety.

The comprehensive Driving Assistant Professional option package includes a new function that helps the driver take the right exit based on semi-automated Level 2 driving. Using the vehicle sensors and other assistance systems, the assistant detects gaps in the traffic necessary for the lane change towards the exit and ensures the vehicle is travelling at the optimum speed for the assisted lane change.

For the first time, the MINI Countryman also offers semi-automated driving on motorway-like routes at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Up to this speed, the driver can take their hands off the steering wheel providing they continue to follow the traffic closely. The driver must be ready to actively steer and brake at all times. This function builds on the other driver assistance systems, taking over both longitudinal and lateral guidance within the current lane.

All options offered by the advanced driver assistant systems are visualised in real time by means of Assisted View in the OLED display. The fact that the control suggestions provided by the Driving Assistant Systems are straightforward to follow makes the new systems easier to use.

As standard, a new Trailer Assistant helps when manoeuvring into a parking space with a trailer and offers advice on the required steering wheel angle when reversing. In addition to automatic parking functions and the 360-degree Parking View, the new MINI Countryman is able to identify possible parking spaces more clearly thanks to 12 ultrasonic sensors and four Surround View cameras, and it can also independently initiate space-restricted parking procedures. As part of the optional Parking Assistant Professional, the vehicle can be manoeuvred out of a parking space via smartphone using the new Remote Parking function. If there is insufficient room at the side of the vehicle, the MINI Countryman uses this function to drive out of the parking space by itself, making it easier for the driver to get in.

The new MINI Operating System 9: modern connectivity for digital convenience.

The new “Charismatic Simplicity” design language is also reflected in the aesthetic of the user interface, which brings together functional and emotional elements. The reduced design uses all-new graphics to create an extremely modern look. Static and dynamic elements blend naturally into the circular form of the OLED display, following a clear structure. Micro-animations enhance the already extremely intuitive interaction between the driver and central instrument and underscore the digital character of the new MINI family.

MINI Operating System 9 is an in-house development by the BMW Group and is based on an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack. Operation is intuitive and follows the standards familiar from consumer electronics.

At the centre of the screen is the start menu, where personalised content can be selected and launched by swiping to the side. In the lower section of the screen is the fixed status bar containing the menu items “Navigation”, “Media”, “Telephony”, “All Apps” and, depending on the situation, “Home”, which can be selected directly. Swiping up from the lower edge of the screen reveals a tool belt, a process customers will be familiar with from many consumer electronics devices. Favourite functions can be stored here and called up again rapidly, i. e. navigation destinations and radio stations. The tool belt can also be activated via the star button on the multifunction steering wheel. The upper screen area is reserved for driving-relevant content such as the vehicle speed and important information on the vehicle status. The optional Head-up display shows the most important information for the driver in their field of view.

The temperature for the driver and front passenger is permanently displayed on the left- and right-hand edge of the screen. The climate control settings are integrated into the MINI Interaction Unit and can always be adjusted on the top layer by touch or voice command.

Depending on the Experience Mode selected, a single tap on the speed display transforms the entire MINI Interaction Unit into a MINI-typical speedometer.

“The new MINI Operating System 9 is characterised by simple, emotional touch operation that is specific to MINI. Together with the new cloud-based MINI Navigation for particularly precise and fast route calculation, high-speed connectivity and optional 5G capability, the new MINI Countryman takes a giant leap into the digital world, thereby underlining the brand’s charismatic heritage,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI.

When driving, the entire MINI navigation package in conjunction with the optional MINI Connected Package provides support through realistic 3D visualizations in complicated turning situations, presentation of the current traffic situation even without activated route guidance, information on parking options including digital payment options, and much more. In addition, an optional augmented reality function is available for visualizing turning instructions. For the all-electric MINI Countryman, a charge-optimized route can be calculated immediately after the destination has been entered.

In addition, MINI Connected Upgrades allow flexible bookings of additional vehicle functions – simply digital. In conjunction with the optionally available MINI Connected Package, the MINI Connected Store provides access to a constantly evolving variety of practical and entertaining apps, including gaming, music and video streaming. The new AirConsole app provides a unique form of in-car gaming for all passengers, making the smartphone the controller of the game on the OLED display.

Electrified go-kart feeling based on progressive drivetrain technology.

The new MINI Countryman enables locally emission-free mobility and all-electric driving fun. The completely renewed powertrain and the increased electric range provide the option to go on excursions beyond the city limits – with two powerful electric motors and all-wheel drive. Fully electric, the vehicle is available in the Countryman E variant and with increased output and all-wheel drive as the Countryman SE ALL4.

The estimated 150 kW/204 hp electric motor in the MINI Countryman E achieves 250 Nm of torque, accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 km/h. With an estimated 230 kW/313 hp, the electric motors in the all-wheel-drive MINI Countryman SE ALL4 achieve a combined torque of 494 Nm, accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The powerful battery has an estimated energy capacity of 66.45 kWh.

The new MINI Countryman is also available with innovative and efficient petrol engines. It is offered as the MINI Countryman C with front-wheel drive, an all-wheel drive MINI Countryman S ALL4 and an increased-output model with all-wheel drive in the variant MINI Countryman JCW ALL4. The new MINI Countryman will also be available as a diesel variant.

Excellent driving dynamics for comfortable and sporty mobility.

A slightly increased track width and enlarged wheelbase provide the basis for excellent driving dynamics. Even the basic chassis of the new MINI Countryman conveys a sense of sporty flair with the typical MINI go-kart feeling. As standard, the model features a high-quality, precisely tuned damping system combined with highly preloaded stabilisers. The latter provide an additional gain in steering precision and accuracy while at the same time ensuring sound roll support.

“Precisely tuned” means that the entire set of components from axles, steering and dampers through to ride and stability control systems go together to create an exceptional experience in all situations in terms of comfortable and sporty driving. The new MINI Countryman transmits a very direct steering wheel feel with a rack ratio of 55 mm of rack travel per turn of the steering wheel.

The integrated braking system further contributes to the car’s excellent driving dynamics and controllability. A crisp, secure feeling when braking increases the dynamics and precision of the vehicle due to reliable stabilisation. In conjunction with the numerous driver assistance systems, shorter braking distances increase safety.

The customer can choose between a balanced and comfortable chassis configuration or a particularly sporty one, depending on the preferred individual driving experience. The Adaptive Suspension with 15 mm lowering and frequency-selective dampers is available as an option. This has a purely mechanical chassis that adapts to road conditions and offers significant added value in terms of simultaneous vehicle control. In addition, the 19-inch and 20-inch wheels can be combined with sports tyres to optimise the vehicle's lateral and longitudinal dynamics. Optimised 17-inch aerodynamic wheels additionally increase the range of the all-electric MINI Countryman.

An increase in tyre diameter by 30 mm to a total of 710 mm gives the new MINI Countryman an enhanced presence, while at the same time offering improved driving dynamics and comfort. In addition, the tyre width of the optionally available 19-inch and 20-inch rims is increased by 20 mm to 245 mm in order to emphasise the typical MINI go-kart feeling. The available tyre dimensions range from 18 inches to 20 inches.

New MINI Experience Modes for individually tailored driving fun.

For the first time, the MINI Experience Modes transmit the driving fun that is typical of the brand by digital and visual means, too. A flick of the “Experiences” toggle switch is all it takes to activate the different modes. The racing-inspired GO-KART Mode highlights the agility of the MINI Countryman by aligning the suspension tuning, thereby making the driving experience particularly emotional. In this mode, the projector unit behind the central OLED display also bathes the entire interior in the John Cooper Works-inspired shades of red. The throttle response of the accelerator pedal is optimised for sporty driving. For a particularly athletic driving experience, a go-kart driving sound has been created that features very marked pitch and load curves, thereby providing the appropriate sound backdrop for agile and dynamic driving. In addition, driving fun can be intensified by adjusting the steering behaviour and also specially calibrated intervention limits for the traction control.

Another aspect of typical MINI driving fun is emphasised by Green Mode. This optimises the efficiency of the drive as well as optimizing the throttle response for energy-saving driving, also aligning the electric motor to maximum range based on various parameters. Improved recuperation management in the new MINI Countryman is one of the contributing factors here: this feeds excess energy to the battery when braking or coasting, thereby increasing the vehicle’s range. Visualisations of their personal driving style allow the driver to see how it impacts on range. Tips for efficient driving and a power meter are a playful way of increasing the driver’s motivation to drive economically. For example, the driver is able to grasp the effect of their driving behaviour in concrete form based on gaining a “bonus range”.

What is more, these immersive driving experiences are enhanced by means of completely newly created acoustic worlds consisting of digital MINI Sounds. An optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System is available in the interior of the new MINI Countryman that provides a choice in acoustic terms, too, between an intense or a relaxing atmosphere by means of completely new driving sounds. The repertoire includes an unmistakable MINI brand sound as a mark of identification and jingles for the new MINI Experience Modes, as well as a collection of new sound signals to denote information and warning functions. These so-called earcons serve a similar purpose to visual icons in that they act as clearly established symbols for certain events or information. Some 30 of these sound signals have been newly created – from the acoustic accompaniment of the turn signals and the seat belt warning system through to the Park Distance Control (PDC) tones. This creates a distinctive recognition feature that is typical of MINI in the acoustic dimension, too.

Simplified and efficient battery charging.

The battery of the MINI Countryman can be charged via alternating current up to 22 kW. Fast charging with direct current is possible in both all-electric models with 130 kW. This means that just under 30 minutes of charging at a fast charging station is enough to charge the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent. Depending on the weather conditions, active navigation via MINI Navigation to a fast charging station ensures the high-voltage battery reaches the ideal temperature for efficient charging in advance. This can significantly reduce charging time, especially in cold outdoor temperatures.

New, easy-to-understand setting options facilitate the charging process, increasing transparency and convenience for the customer. For example, the start time for charging can be selected individually, or an ideal time window for charging can be set. A certain target level for battery capacity can be determined in advance, too. For a particularly pleasant start, charging can be set to be completed by a selected departure time, and the vehicle interior can be air-conditioned to the desired temperature by this time.

The MINI App provides a convenient overview of the charging process even if the customer is not near the vehicle. This provides details of the current battery status, a charging-optimised route plan, and charging history to date – including all costs and savings.

Future-proof electromobility due to the highest possible level of environmental compatibility.

The new MINI Countryman combines locally emission-free electric mobility with the highest possible level of environmental compatibility in production as well. This includes dispensing with all chrome decorative elements in the exterior and interior as well as manufacturing the light alloy cast wheels from up to 70 per cent secondary aluminium. In combination with the fact that green electricity is used for production, it has been possible to reduce CO2 emissions compared to conventional manufacturing processes. In addition, no rare earths are needed for the production of the efficient and permanently current-excited synchronous motors.

The surfaces, the inside of the doors and the vehicle floor and floor mats are made of recycled polyester. This high-quality, colourful and comfortable alternative to traditional materials significantly reduces CO2 emissions along the value chain and uses less water in production than cotton.

Lochearnhead. Lochs is what the Scots call their crystal-clear lakes, and Loch Lomond, the largest lake in the United Kingdom, is located in the national park of the same name. The perfect destination for challenging test drives with the adventure-ready third-generation MINI Countryman.

From the rustic Castle Hill to the wild world of the Munros.
The tour starts in the small town of Stirling. From the castle hill of Stirling Castle, one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, the view extends far into the Highlands of Loch Lomond National Park. Stirling Castle was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century. It flourished under the early royal family of the Stewarts during the Renaissance.

From Stirling, take the A84 and A85 north along dense forests and deep blue lakes to the small village of Mid Lix. The branching A827 invites you to take a detour to the north-eastern mountain range along the shore of Loch Tay. Here, the MINI Countryman can demonstrate its comfortable and sporty driving dynamics for the first time on the winding route through the Munros.

Below Ben Lawers - at 1,214 metres one of the highest Munros in the region - the impressive dam of the same name dams up 344 metres of water from the surrounding mountain rivers. The ups and downs of the Scottish Highlands awaken the visitor's urge to discover anew with each ascent. On the way northwest, the A82 leads into the Glencoe Mountain Range. Along the way, the winding road repeatedly passes numerous rivers, which flow into the spectacular loch landscape of Lochan na h-Achlaise behind the historic Bridge of Orchy.

Just beyond the bridge over Glen Etive, a narrow path leads south along the wild river with its numerous waterfalls deeper and deeper into the valley. The River Etive is considered one of the most challenging white water kayaking routes in Scotland. No wonder Daniel Craig as secret agent 007 also chose the route along its banks for a spectacular ride in the film "James Bond: Skyfall" to lose pursuers. On the way back south, the off-road tyres of the MINI Countryman ALL4 are undoubtedly better than the British sports car of the world's most famous agent.

Natural beauty and Atlantic delicacies.
Back on the A82 towards Arrochar, the waterfalls of Falloch offer a special vantage point. From here, continue south, with Loch Lomond in view at all times on the left, until the branching A83 leads west to Loch Fyne. It is the northernmost spur of the Clyde Fjord, which cuts deep into this stretch of coast from the Atlantic. Its tidal movements can be felt as far as Glasgow Harbour and the associated currents make the waters of Loch Fyne particularly fresh and nutrient-rich. Ideal conditions for breeding oysters and best hunting ground for numerous fish species. The result tastes best in the Loch Fyne Oysterbar, where you should definitely stop at the end of this adventurous discovery tour - of course with a wide view of the sea and mountains.

MINI Canada is pleased to announce the new 2021 MINI Countryman, featuring a newly updated design, along with enhancements in technology and equipment offerings.  Most importantly it retains MINI’s “fun-to-drive” character and expressive design that makes it instantly recognizable as MINI.  As the largest and most versatile member of the MINI model family, the new 2021 MINI Countryman offers individual flair in the hallmark style of the British premium brand.

The MINI Countryman has proven itself as an attractive vehicle concept in the premium compact cross-over segment, offering a versatile and ample interior with seating for five.  The standard ALL4 all-wheel drive system makes the new MINI Countryman an all-around talent that inspires MINI driving fun, whether on the road in day-to-day traffic, or on long-distance trips, or even when venturing off the beaten path into unsurfaced terrain.

Distinctive proportions, powerful charisma.

Thanks to its unique design and proportions as the brand’s largest vehicle offering, the new MINI Countryman is instantly recognizable as a MINI.  The three-part structure of the vehicle body that is typical of MINI is interpreted in a particularly striking way by the model-specific roof line. The car’s upright stature and increased ground clearance signal the vehicle’s generous interior space, robust character and inspiring driving characteristics on both paved and unsurfaced terrain. 

The updated design of the car's front section lends new emphasis to the powerful charisma of the new MINI Countryman.   The newly designed front and rear bumper coverings, now entirely in body finish, lend a more refined appearance. The redesigned radiator grille features hexagonal contours that are typical of MINI and it is surrounded by a slim-lined, one-piece chrome frame.  The grille’s air intake is subdivided by three horizontal struts in the MINI Cooper Countryman. The radiator grill of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 is characterized by a bold hexagonal grid pattern with a red “S” and a single chrome strut.

Bright spot: LED headlights now standard.

The redesign of the front fascia now adds LED headlights to the standard trim in the new MINI Countryman: here, the latest version of these lights features a particularly high-quality design that emphasizes the technology used. The distinctive, asymmetrically rounded contours of the headlights are accentuated by a continuous band of light that takes on the function of both daytime driving light and turn indicator.  The cornering light included in the functional range of the LED headlights provides clear illumination of the side areas of the road when turning or changing lanes. The standard trim of the new MINI Countryman also includes LED fog lights, with a light band in the upper semicircle of each fog light serving as a parking light.

Redesigned rear fascia and LED lights in Union Jack design.

With its redesigned bumper trim, the rear fascia also enhances the more powerful and contemporary look of the new MINI Countryman. The upright rear lights with chrome frame design evokes the origins of the British brand.  All lighting functions now feature high-quality LED technology as standard, while the graphic structure of the light source reflects the pattern of the Union Jack.  Paying homage to MINI’s origins as a distinctively British brand, the flag motif projects an unmistakable form – both day and night - clearly identifying the car as a MINI.

Striking look: two new body finishes, Piano Black Exterior and new alloy wheels.

The range of body finishes opens up new possibilities for an individual look, including the newly added colors White Silver metallic and Sage Green metallic. Depending on the model variant, the roof and mirror caps of the new MINI Countryman can be finished in black, white or silver as an alternative to the body color.

The new Piano Black Exterior offers a striking and attractive appearance: here, the headlamp surrounds, rear lights, radiator grill and side indicator side scuttles – are finished in high-gloss black instead of chrome, as are the door handles and the model lettering on the luggage compartment lid.  Additional identification features in high-gloss black are available from the range of Original MINI Accessories, including the MINI logo and the “Cooper S” and “ALL4” inscriptions in Piano Black design. Matching exterior mirror caps and side scuttles with a grey-black flag pattern in Night Jack design are also available as an accessory.

Depending on the model variant, the new MINI Countryman is fitted standard with 17-inch light alloy wheels, with light alloy wheels in sizes up to 19 inches available as optional extras and as part of the Original MINI Accessories program. 17-inch light alloy wheels in Channel Spoke Black design are new to the range of ex works options, as are 19-inch light alloy Turnstile Spoke 2-tone wheels.

Interior:  Ample space with more individual style.

The new MINI Countryman ALL4 combines versatile driving characteristics with a versatile interior. Second row seating for three can be folded to expand cargo capacity. By folding down the rear seat with a 40 : 20 : 40 split, storage space can be extended from 498  – 1348 litres.

Selective customization of the interior based on customer’s personal style is further enhanced with the addition of new options and choices. The leather variants Chester Leather Malt Brown has been newly added to the selection of seat upholstery options. The Color Line for the lower section of the instrument panel and door trim is now an integral part of the leather trim designed to match the relevant color scheme.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman and MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 models now come as standard with Piano Black interior surfaces for the cockpit and door bezels. These are combined with accent strips in the variant British Oak dark.  A new version of the highly exclusive MINI Yours interior surfaces is optionally available for all model variants. The optional MINI Yours Interior Style Shaded Silver conveys stylish sporty flair. This is ensured by combining an illuminated cockpit bezel in the variant Shaded Silver with door bezels in Dark Silver and accentuation strips in Hazy Grey.

Engines with optimized MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology

A further developed engine portfolio enables the new MINI Countryman to achieve an even greater balance between driving fun and fuel consumption. In addition to further optimization of CO2 levels for Europe, other aspects of the emissions performance have been likewise consistently improved by means of the relevant measures – including particulate filters for gasoline engines.

MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology is used in the 3-cylinder gasoline engines of the new MINI Cooper Countryman ALL4 and in the 4-cylinder gasoline engine of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4, and now includes an exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head along with turbo charging. Among other things, this ensures highly effective cooling of the exhaust gases and the turbocharging system. At the same time, crankcase cooling can be reduced when demand is low under partial load by means of a new split cooling valve. In addition, gasoline engine direct injection operates at a maximum pressure that has been increased from 200 to 350 bar.

ALL4 – a standard feature of all Canadian Countryman models.

MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system provides optimum performance in term of  traction, driving stability and agility. With its fast and precise electronic control, the system ensures needs-based distribution of power between the front and rear wheels in all road surface and weather conditions.

The MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 is fitted with a hybrid-specific all-wheel drive system which seamlessly controls the interaction between the 3-cylinder petrol engine, transmitting its power to the front wheels, and the electric synchronous motor propelling the rear wheels. Together, the two power units produce a combined system output of 220 bhp.

8-speed Steptronic transmission standard for two more model variants.

The new MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 comes with a 6-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.  Meanwhile the MINI Cooper Countryman ALL4 now features an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard, as does the MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 and the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4. 

The new MINI Countryman is available in four model variants:

Sport leather steering wheel, digital cockpit.

The interior of the new MINI Countryman also has maintained its appeal with premium range of standard equipment. It includes a sports leather steering wheel in all model variants. In the new MINI Countryman, the front passenger can also adapt seat height as required. Electrically adjustable seats are available as an option and include a memory function on the driver’s side.

An optional digital instrument display is available for the new MINI Countryman. The display in Black Panel design behind the steering wheel has a diameter of 5.0 inches (12.7 cm). The range of audio and navigation systems has been updated. The standard circular control unit in the new MINI Countryman exhibits a refined appearance, and larger size at 8.8”, with the audio control panel, the buttons for hazard lights, and driver assistance systems now integrated more seamlessly.  Meanwhile touch-sensitive bookmark buttons and high-gloss Piano Black surfaces underscore the premium character of the central instrumentation.

The Connected Media and Connected Navigation Plus options are available as an alternative to the basic configuration.  Each include an 8.8-inch (22.3 cm) color screen with touchscreen function located in the central instrument that is typical of the brand.

The new MINI Countryman: always connected thanks to intelligent networking.

The new MINI Countryman is equipped with a SIM card that is permanently fitted in the car. This enables use of Intelligent Emergency Call with automatic detection of vehicle location and accident severity, as well as MINI TeleServices.  The Connected Navigation option includes a wide range of MINI Connected digital services.

This provides access to the Real Time Traffic Information service as well as the internet platform MINI Online and preparation for Apple CarPlay. MINI Connected can be used to send navigation destinations from the smartphone to the vehicle. The mobile phone connection also means that the vehicle’s navigation map is updated automatically.

Individual style for retrofitting: MINI Original Accessories.

High-quality retrofit options from the program of MINI Original Accessories enable functionality, convenience, driving fun and individual style to be adapted to personal preferences in the new MINI Countryman. The selection ranges from a roof box, a molded luggage compartment mat and all-weather floor mats, to individual MINI LED door projectors from the MINI Yours Customized program and John Cooper Works performance products designed for extreme driving fun.

The new 2021 MINI Countryman models are expected to arrive in Canadian MINI showrooms later this summer.  More information on pricing, options and packages, and NRCan fuel efficiency ratings will be made available closer to market launch.

The world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is one of the main highlights of the Auto Shanghai 2017 show. The new business sedan is the successor to the current front-runner in the Chinese car market’s premium segment and comes with all the right credentials for cementing this leading status. Likewise making its debut public appearance is the latest special-edition version of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. And Auto Shanghai 2017 also hosts the Asian premieres of the BMW Concept X2, revised BMW 4 Series models and new services from BMW Connected created specifically for the Chinese market.

The time-honoured MINI brand is also represented at Auto Shanghai 2017 with a world premiere. The new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, a talented all-rounder with stand-out performance attributes, is making its first public appearance. And BMW Motorrad is kicking off its 2017 product offensive with the presentation of the revised BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR, plus an ultra-exclusive new model.

Auto Shanghai is one of the most important motor shows of the year for the global automotive industry. It has taken place every other year since 1985, alternating with the Auto China show in Beijing on the motoring calendar. The National Exhibition and Convention Center in the west of Shanghai opened its doors in 2015 and invites vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from around the world to display their products across an area measuring some 400,000 square metres. The 17th edition of the Auto Shanghai show will see more than 1,100 exhibitors present their new models, technological innovations and service offerings to the public from 21 – 28 April 2017.

World premiere: the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase.

Taking centre stage at the BMW brand’s stand at Auto Shanghai 2017 is the world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase. The new model is being built by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. exclusively for the Chinese market at the Shenyang facility.

Its 133-millimetre-longer wheelbase imbues the business sedan’s exterior with elegantly stretched proportions which blend harmoniously into its contemporary looks. State-of-the-art powertrain and chassis technology underpin an exceptional balance between BMW’s hallmark dynamic driving ability and supreme ride comfort. The all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is up to 130 kilograms lighter than its predecessor and boasts enhanced aerodynamics.

Generous kneeroom, optimised soundproofing and a host of innovative equipment features – such as the electrically adjustable comfort seats, Ambient Air package and Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof – elevate on-board comfort in the rear to an even higher level. As well as the iDrive system and a further improved voice control system, the display and control concept also encompasses a touchscreen monitor and BMW gesture control.

World premiere: the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition.

The BMW i8, for example, has developed into the world’s highest-selling plug-in hybrid sports car. And its appeal is given fresh lustre at Auto Shanghai 2017 with the presentation for the first time of the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition. This latest special edition stands out with its exclusive Protonic Frozen Yellow paint finish, newly designed 20-inch light-alloy wheels and distinctive interior design cues.

Asian premiere: the BMW Concept X2.

The BMW Concept X2 is celebrating its Asian premiere in Shanghai. The new vehicle concept for the premium compact segment combines the robust and functionally accomplished character of a BMW X model with the low-slung proportions of a coupe. Among the signature X elements are muscular surfaces, large, almost squared-off wheel arches and stylistic underfloor protection. The long wheelbase, short overhangs, flowing roofline and slim side window graphic lend the silhouette of the BMW Concept X2 a svelte and dynamic appearance.

Asian premiere: the new BMW 4 Series model range.

The new BMW 4 Series models will be introduced to the public in Asia for the first time with detailed revisions to their design and optimised chassis technology. LED headlights and LED rear lights now come as standard for the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, as does a refined premium ambience in the interior. If the optional Navigation system Professional is specified, the iDrive operating system also features a new tile-style menu layout with constantly updated content. And the Multifunctional Instrument Display can now also be ordered as an option.

BMW Connected with services developed specially for China.

With mobility, communication and infotainment services tailored specially to BMW’s Chinese target group, BMW Connected presents a premium digital offering unmatched in the country. The BMW Connected personalised mobility assistant’s China-specific functionality includes customer support among its suite of services. BMW Connected allows smartphone users to coordinate communications with a selected BMW dealer and arrange service appointments. BMW Connected also supplies users in China with information on traffic offences. And customers can make use of online-based lifestyle, social media and entertainment services selected specially for the Chinese market and with bespoke functionality.

World premiere: the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.

The MINI brand is showing off its sporty side at Auto Shanghai 2017, with the world premiere of the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman commanding the limelight. The latest John Cooper Works machine is the largest and most versatile elite performance model in the British car maker’s portfolio. The brand’s most powerful engine, eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission (fitted as standard in cars for the Chinese market), ALL4 all-wheel drive and sports suspension, plus the aerodynamically optimised body and sports-car cockpit aura come together into a sublime overall package to deliver standout performance and a race feeling that will capture the imagination.

The new-generation MINI sees the British manufacturer also strengthening its position as the leading maker of premium vehicles in the small car and compact segments in China. The MINI 3-door and MINI 5-door are each available with a selection of three engines in the country, and MINI Convertible customers there can choose from two variants. In the premium compact segment, the MINI Clubman can be ordered with one of three engines and the MINI Countryman with a choice of two, plus ALL4 all-wheel drive as an option. BMW Motorrad: fresh success, a model offensive and a world premiere for a suitably exclusive newcomer.

BMW Motorrad recorded extremely dynamic growth in China in 2016, with sales up 52.7 per cent compared with the previous year. And the brand is continuing along its upward curve in 2017, fuelled by its ongoing model offensive in the premium motorcycle and maxi scooter markets. 14 new and redesigned models are set to be introduced up to the end of 2017. And the brand is showing various models at Auto Shanghai 2017, including the latest versions of the ultra-sporty BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR. But the highlight of the BMW Motorrad stand is the world premiere of one of the most exclusive models ever offered by BMW Motorrad.

Munich. The annually presented GOOD DESIGNTM Award for 2010 went to a full quartet of vehicles and concepts: the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the MINI Countryman, the BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW Concept 6.  This most prestigious of international honours yet again recognised the exceptional standard of BMW Group Design. The prizewinners’ products will be exhibited as part of the annual GOOD DESIGN SHOW to be held in June 2011 at the Chicago Athenaeum.

The world’s oldest and most distinguished design award was called into being in Chicago in 1950 by the architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann Jr., and is presented to this day by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies. For six decades now, this coveted prize is conferred on designers and manufacturers for particularly innovative and visionary products, concepts and ideas that reach beyond the bounds of ordinary product design. Not the least of its aims is to raise public awareness of contemporary design and related sustainability issues.

The selection of award winners is based on the criteria of function and aesthetic as originally laid down by Saarinen and Eames, and is complemented by an environmental stipulation for sustainable design, in keeping with the times. In 2010, an independent jury of design experts and architects made their selection from a record number of submissions from 37 different nations, and picked out more than 500 product and graphic designs to receive the GOOD DESIGN Award.

The design of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan eloquently translates the vehicle’s attributes into an authentic formal language.

Exuding sheer presence and stylish elegance, the Sedan’s design expresses its premium quality and outstanding ride comfort, while its sporty handling is reflected in the dynamic lines of its body and an overall look suggesting athleticism. The superlative aesthetics of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan are further embodied in its perfectly balanced proportions and precisely finished details.

The MINI Countryman is the most expansive interpretation of the MINI design language. As the first MINI to feature four doors and measure more than four metres in length, the MINI Countryman’s typical MINI design leaves no doubt as to its kinship with the brand. Within the product family, the newcomer stands out with its striking exterior that features faintly pentagonal headlights, a new-style “helmet” roof and three-dimensional, vertically aligned rear lights. The interior design likewise accentuates the practicality and robust character of the MINI Countryman.

The highly dynamic design of the BMW S 1000 RR displays its racing bike heritage in a frank and authentic manner. Its flat and sportive front-end design features the hallmark asymmetrical BMW headlight arrangement that reiterates the look of the endurance racers (24-hour events).

The BMW Concept 6 design study persuaded the jury with its highly contrasting composition: while the lower half of the motorcycle reveals its mechanical underpinnings, the sensually tactile surfaces invite some close interaction with the driver. The two levels are fused by an organically designed air flow system.

The unique quality of BMW Group Design has been repeatedly recognised in the past by the GOOD DESIGN Award. In 2008, for example, the award went to the BMW 3 Series Convertible, the BMW 1 Series Coupé and the MINI Cooper S Clubman, as well as four BMW motorcycles. 2007 saw the new BMW X5, the BMW 3 Series Coupé, the new MINI and a further three BMW motorcycles win the GOOD DESIGN Award. And it isn’t the first time the BMW 5 Series Sedan has been crowned: its outstanding design won over the jury of the internationally renowned red dot awards in 2010, secured the coveted iF Product Design Award in 2011, and – with the 2011 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany – captured the country’s most prestigious prize for exceptional product design.
