BMW Mountain Bikes for Formula 1 Drivers
Endurance Training with High-Tech Bikes
Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team's drivers, keep fit
on BMW's top-of-the-range mountain bike. In their fitness training for racing
with the power of BMW's Formula 1 engine, they remain loyal to their brand,
enjoying life on BMW's Q.6 S mountain bike with XTR equipment.
Two hours of strenuous work at the steering wheel with centrifugal forces of
3-4 g plus 100 % concentration every fraction of a second - this is naturally
expected of a Formula 1 driver in every Grand Prix. And it explains why in the
highest realms of motorsport physical fitness is not only essential for a good
result, but is rather an absolute necessity in order to stay alive. Simply
because the driver focusing too much on his own stamina and forced to struggle
too hard will easily make dangerous mistakes.
The drivers follow individual training programmes together with their coaches
to make sure they are always absolutely fit. Daniel Dobringer and Hogne Rørvik,
Schumacher's and Button's personal trainers, are also convinced that endurance
training plays an all-important role in their daily workout. Cycling in nature
offers mental relaxation and therefore ranks high up on the popularity scale.
"Riding a high-tech bike of this calibre", says Ralf Schumacher in praise of
his Q.6 S, "makes those trips twice the fun. This mountain bike is absolutely
wonderful to ride and so versatile that you can use it virtually everywhere."
BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen naturally took the time out to hand
over these innovative riding machines personally to Schumacher and Button. And
this was indeed quite appropriate, considering that the Q.6 S was his last
development project before leaving BMW Technik GmbH in order to join BMW's
Motorsport Division.
It is quite unusual for two team-mates to have exactly the same machine in
Formula 1. But in the BMW WilliamsF1 Team there are even four team-mates
sharing the same bike, since Dobringer and Rørvik naturally accompany "their"
drivers in fitness training on BMW Q.6 S mountain bikes themselves.
In Canada the bike is available in the XT version and retails at $4650.50.
Special orders of the XTR equipment level are possible at special request.
